  • Ever tried to charge your Garmin solar watch for 11 hours straight day after day for four days? I did and this video is the result. As I type, yes, the Garmin Fēnix 7X sapphire solar smartwatch not only made it to day 21, that was back on 09/20/2022, and the upload date of this video is 08/23/2022. Yeah, the beautiful Fēnix 7X just keeps on ticking on Day 24 without a cable, over 20 hours of GPS, and much more...
    Editorial Notes:
    The video was shot on the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip3, the iPhone 12 Mini, edited in iMovie, and then exported at 1920 x 1080 format, 30 FPS, and was 3.15 GB. The inspiration for this video was from ‪@FilmCollectorArchive‬ for he pushes my level of creativity daily. Another thank you over to ‪@sushka‬ for the idea to keep this second TH-cam Channel alive. And yes, thank you to ‪@thebrotographerscollective6492‬ for the help with thumbnails.
    The reason this video is 00:20:45 in length is that I wanted to include all the details to allow people to know what is required to fully maximize the $100.00 cost for a solar smartwatch in the year 2022. Within the last 48 hours, Garmin invited me to their BETA program and I hope to give more juicy details soon about upgrades for the Fēnix series.

    Charging using flashlight probably has an efficiency way below 1%

    • @TheManWithTwoWatches

      More like 1.19% efficiency depending upon...
      1. light source
      2. smart watch solar capabilities
      3. time under the flashlight or magic lamp

    Thanks for this video and for your work. I thought that solar in my tactix 7 pro is useless and I overpaid for this feature, but thanks to you and your scientist approach I've known that it works!) Now I feel myself more confident, because I've known that 100k lxh will give me 1% of the battery in an extreme situation. I bought this model exactly for these situations to have more chances to survive, because I've got lost in a forest twice in my life and it's a very bad feeling)). And I doubt, shouldn't I have bought instinct 2x for it)). But I like the design of tactix 6-7 models more.

      Thank you and you're welcome - glad you liked my video with a scientific approach. The Fenix 7X or the Tactix 7, oh yeah, both wonderful wearables for survival. And yes, about 100k Lux = about 1% battery life. The "around me" features, compass, and detailed maps would finitely help one find themselves a nearby Ranger Stations, 7-11 Store, or a hospital.

    • @TheManWithTwoWatches
      @TheManWithTwoWatches  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am rewatching my video now... in the first part of the video it is just the "screen-saver" watchface when the Fenix is placed into sleep mode. Yeah, I just went through the entire video and that is the DND & Sleep-Mode watchface.

    Could you do a test to determine a scale on which the solar watches efficiency is measured? Say have the most efficient solar charging watch on top and then the rest in a series below that according to how well the solar actually charges. Including multiple Generations would make it even more interesting

    is sapphire screen is necessary?
    i mean is normal screen too weak?

    • @TheManWithTwoWatches
      @TheManWithTwoWatches  ปีที่แล้ว

      I had the Garmin Fenix 6X pro solar watch for about 3 or 4 months before the screen was scratched while hiking. It all depends are you willing to slap on a screen protector and save $100.00, then the answer is... yes! The sapphire power glass also makes the screen view-ability a little darker indoors.

  • @monoplastzeljo2582
    @monoplastzeljo2582 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    The fenix 7x sapphire solar watch has a major drawback, the screen in the menu as well as the messages that arrive when the phone is connected to the watch are set to black background and pale blue text (due to the poor finish of the sapphire glass, there is no white color, but pale blue color) and that text is hard to read. There is no option like on older models of garmin watches to change the background to be white or pale gray and the text to be black, which would be more legible. (Inverter color or display color setting). As soon as you sweat a little around your eyes during activities, you can't see clearly, or if you have a smaller (+ eye diopter) for reading, which most people over 40 have the same problem, you strain to read what is written on the screen. Otherwise, the watch is excellently made, but this problem with the screen and the lack of an option to set the background to be white or gray and the text to be black, which is more pleasant and legible for the eye, makes the garmin fenix 7x sapphire solar watch unusable for many people and if not documents in some software update the watch is a complete and utter failure. I found a lot of the same comments in several forums which says that the problem is not innocuous.

    • @TheManWithTwoWatches
      @TheManWithTwoWatches  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, that is a true drawback. Have you considered buying the EPIX 2? I had a difficult time reading the Garmin Tactix Delta smartwatch and ended up selling it to a younger person. I wear reading glasses about 70% of my daytime hours now and often cannot read certain details on my Garmin Fēnix 7X sapphire solar without glasses - it makes it quite difficult while working out. I hope to test the EPIX 3.0 when it is released later this year and I will certain do a comparison video on the screen readability. Thank you for the comments and I hope the MIP technology improves and that Garmin allows font/colour changes later in 2023.

      Interesting comment... I have not tested the Garmin Enduro 2 yet. I am going on Day 28 without charging my Garmin Fenix 7X, the same test that started in the video you watched, yeah, it is still going. The solar charges during the day just keep it going. • @TheManWithTwoWatches
      @TheManWithTwoWatches  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      When I shutdown, or shut off, devices, I like to leave them off for a bit to rest and to perform a longer "reset" process when possible. I extremely dislike any gadget that does not have a shutdown feature. I have a few and it makes it quite difficult for storage purposes when they are not being tested or worn. I often shutdown my laptop for the weekend and leave it off for a good 48 hours.

    • @TheManWithTwoWatches
      @TheManWithTwoWatches  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Whenever I turn off a watch, computer, or nearly any gadget, I like to leave it off for a solid one to two minutes. If I am not filming at video at that very moment, yes, I'll leave the device off for a solid five to 30 minutes. I turned off my Lenovo laptop on Saturday morning and just turned it back on an hour ago, and today is Monday.
