One of favorite Sokka moments is when during the Fortuneteller episode some man asks "can your science explain why it rains?" and Jack's delivery on "YES! Yes it can!" is just perfect comedic tone!
Were all of the cast kids when this was recorded?? I'm always surprised by that cuz the performances are so good and iconic! Most shows have adults doing voices instead of risking young talent
Jack De Sena looks NOTHING like I would have expected for Sokka from his voice acting in AtLA... Him and Zuko/Dante Basco. The fact BOTH can pull off a legit Sokka and Zukp voice 12 years after the series ended... Incredible.
Remember when Azula said "It's terrible when you can't trust the people who are closest to you" when talking to Earth King Kuei? In the background, Mai and Ty Lee were eyeballing each other worryingly...very subtle detail that was pointing to what was gonna happen in this episode. And that's not all, in The Drill Mai says that Azula can shoot all the lightning she wants at her, because she won't jump on the dirty water, and in The Beach, Mai tells Azula to "leave her alone" while around the campfire and proceeds to hug Zuko later on. This episode was key for showing the progress Zuko has made since taking up the Sun Warrior philosophy. He is more sure of himself AND more powerful as a result. Previously, the best he could hope to do against Azula was deflect her fire blasts because they were so powerful. Now he can stomp them out easily. One detail I loved was the warden briefly breaking free to tell his men to cut the wire. One of the guards commenting on how he'd fall too, which another says "He knows", showing the Warden was going to stay true to his word when he said "I'd sooner jump in the Boiling Lake myself than let that record fall" in Part 1.
Yeah it's weird but it's kind of a normal thing for actors to not watch the product. So many actors don't watch the movies/shows they're in, not sure why
@@GeekazonMerchHub Probably the same reason people don't like listening to their own voice in recordings. It sounds so uncanny to hear your own voice distilled through recording gear because it's not the same you hear in your own ears when you talk because of the changes in resonance and how your own skull shapes the sound traveling from your throat to your own ear. Most people - if they recorded themselves talking for like an hour, on a call or giving a lecture or for a livestream, etc. - will feel a little bit uncomfortable listening back to it. I think the idea that the voice is yours - but just slightly wrong sounding to your own ear - gives the uncanny valley effect like you're listening to an imposter pretend to be you. Couple that effect with the fact that artists know a lot about the _process_ of getting to that final product, including knowing all the times they messed up, had to redo something, didn't like how something came out, etc. and you probably end up with the result of it not being overly enjoyable to watch your own work. Most people just see the final product and have no experience with anything prior to it, but if you're the artist, you know so much about what came before and that colors your own perception of the end result.
@@IceMaverick13 not to mention with TV especially it was literally their lives for a very long time, just watch the talkville podcast with Michael Rosembaum and Tom welling to see it with Smallville, I mean they didn't want to do interview questions about the show for YEARS because they just wanted it to be over finally lol.
Aww Jack mentioning Dante's "Honor Society" rewatch streams during COVID warms my heart. Those streams really helped get me through those early lockdowns, and it was always so fun to see who would show up each week.
I do love the very subtle hints that Sokka still holds feeings for Yue...even tho he met Suki BEFORE Yue...but the way he holds respect for her...really gives credit to his Game/Rizz.
If all the Karens were kept in Boiling Rock, the world would be a much better place 😂Yeah as Jack later said in the episode, the Warden was voiced by Wade Williams, who also played correctional officer Brad Bellick on the Fox television series Prison Break and fittingly played the warden of Blackgate Prison in the Dark Knight Rises movie from 2012. And that wasn't lightning Azula used to fly to the cable, that was using her blue fire! Which is still pretty epic that firebenders can fly by doing that! And something to note about her blue fire is that normally when Azula bends blue fire, it cools off to orange fire after a few seconds. However, when she was firebending on the gondola in this episode, the fire retained its blue color, even when it burned out! Ty Lee's betrayal is such a powerful moment, it was so unexpected and Azula's shriek as she fell and the sound effects and animation and timing...just damn. How ironic that two non-benders broke Azula mentally (by Mai by giving the best comeback line of "I love Zuko more than I fear you") and physically (By Ty Lee who chi-blocked her). What I love is the little animation touch that Ty Lee's scared/worried while they're talking, and then has a blank "I just did that" look right after punching, and before running to Mai. But as she's striking Azula, it's this look of determination and almost anger. No teary "please stop" or begging. Just pure, determined "this stops now."
I think the biggest shock about these episodes for me, is how little you guys actually knew about the show, it’s fascinating seeing the show from your POV as you’re watching it for what feels like the first time
I like how with all the commentary Jack still sits back and admires some of the episode during the end. It’s almost like he’s remembering the early 2000s when he was recording that.

the conversation about the things people ask you to say in conventions made me realize, one of the things i love about this show is that most of the actors are actually fans of the show as well, how many shows can say that? btw, so... Mae Whitman for the next episode? 👀
11:49 Jack’s voice right here always reminds me of Shaggy from Scooby Doo. If Matthew Lillard ever retires from the role, Jack should see if Grey (voice of Daphne) can get him an audition!
Yay! We got Jack De Sena! I know he will always be our Sokka but for me, he's also a huge part of my childhood in the sense of when he was on All That!
YES! I’ve wanted Jack De Sena on one of these more than any other guest. This episode is great, too. It’s nice to see their escape plan working successfully after 2 episodes, and the fights are kind of cool. Mai and Ty Lee betraying Azula is another satisfying moment many probably weren’t expecting, but feels good nonetheless. Thanks Jack!
This warms my soul ❤ happy to see you too together and it’s amazing how much Jack contributed to the show not just as a voice actor but how he influenced the way the writers wrote Sokka. Wishing you both love and light
Omg this is perfect!! I can't believe you had Jack on!! I squeeled a bit when I saw this posted! 😂 and the purple green tea sounds sooo good!! 😍 I recently ordered this tea set after binging your videos and am beyond excited to try them all! I've loved seeing you go through them all and all of the different kinds! Teacozy is truly amazing for creating this! Plus my boyfriend just got me an electric tea kettle with temp. control for Valentines day because he knew I ordered this set! 💕
So awesome to see Jack on here. So many good Sokka moments throughout the series, the Cactus Juice scenes are still my favorite, "ITS A GIANT MUSHROOM, MAYBE IT'S FRIENDLY! FRIENDLY MUSHROOM, MUSHY GIANT FRIEND!"
Oh this was so much you having Jack on. And also the perfect episode. He absolutely embodies his character. Also the moment at 14:10 when you almost spit out the tea brilliant. His comedic timing is perfect.😂 I also have a feeling this isn't the first time such a thing happened. Also wondering if we get Mae Whitman next episode as guest.
The fearsome foursome was the name me and my friends chose for ourselves, when we had movie night and stayed awake for 2 DAYS straight to watch the entire series
