There's a whole Doom game that's often overlooked by these comparisons, but Doom 64 had really awesome cosmetic upgrades to a lot of monsters. The Cacodemon, for example. It had a similar design to the original but also had shackled wrists. The Pain Elemental gained a second mouth and was therefore twice as dangerous. The Mancubus looked more demonic and the knights and barons of Hell were made more noticeably different. Let's get on the Cyberdemon's look as well. Still evil, mechanical and demonic, but now somehow more visceral.
I was thinking how that was overlooked. Everbody loves the cybermon but 64 had the scariest and coolest version Ive seen to date. Plus there were the phasing purple imps, all in all my favorite aesthetic take on most of the species. To me doom 3 has the best Pinky, doom 2 the best archvile, 3 the best revenant and mancubus, 64 the best imp and cacodemon, 2016 the best soldiers and spidermind... so far, just as designs go. As far as gameplay goes there is a special place in my heart for doom3. During that technologic transition they tried to branch out on the emotion we remembered, unpredictable and scary, id like a new version of dark survival vs action. Both are valid.

Doom aged like a teenager. It started out simple and carefree with Doom and Doom 2. Then it went through its edgy emo phase with Doom 3. And then it finally grew up and went back to its roots with Doom 4
I like how when he shows the monsters from doom 1,2 and 3 it's always pretty calm and alright. But when they show the monsters from Doom 4 it's always batshit crazy, with the screams and the bullets.
Pretty obvious limitations of the era for Doom 1 and 2. Doom 3 went for a horror aesthetic, so it wouldn't be appropriate for enemies to be so energetic. DOOM went back to the original look, but added energy and pace to the combat by enemy movement design, as to replicate the fast paced action of the originals.
Yami Bakura true, and true. however I noticed that some " fans & newer players " to the Genre of doom world complained that That particular Doom " Horror " was just too Dark game play wise. I'm in the Middle of the Road on this because I enjoyed All of them. to me each Doom Versions had something to offer and sometimes things too be improved. IMHO though 😊
Playing the original doom when you're under 10 years old was the scariest thing in this world. Brings back memories. My uncle was a developer at IBM and told me cheat codes and my life was forever changed. Funny I still remember that and it was like 20 years ago
joerover22 Hell yeah it was scary. Watching a Doom video brought back memories of when I was like 6 playing that game. And I was awesome at it. Makes me want to kb+m on my ps4 pro and soon to also have xbox one x. Gaming pc's are just to expensive for me now. And dont say I could have bought a pc with the money of both consoles, as the pro was a gift, and I like both systems exclusives, uncharted, the last of us, god of war, killzone , the last guardian, bloodborne, crash bandicoot etx., and I like Halo and Gears, ans want the xbox one x for a more pc like experience on multiplatform AAA games. I have a fast laptop for basic computing, and couod play some pc exclusive games on it, has a 720m and i7 4660u
I was 4 when I first played doom. My dad used the arrow keys and I only pushed the Ctrl button to shoot. Doom at that time was fucking terrifying to me. The sound design and demon designs were a complete horor for a 4 year old kid.
doom 4 is an incredible reboot of the original dooms. like or dislike doom 3 it feels more like a horror survival fps like fear or deadspace rather than a fast pace arcade shooter like 1-2-4
joseph barovich doom 3 felt so much like dead space and thats why I refuse to play it it makes me shit my pants and unlike doom 1 2 and 4 makes you feel like a badass while doom 3 makes you want to tremble in fear...
I love the enemy designs in DOOM (2016) so much. I love how faithful they've stayed to the original. And the one redesign - the summoner - happens to be one that I think looks way better.
Agreed. Instead of demons you have aliens, instead of possessed humans you have aliens, instead of demon goat you have aliens... etc etc. Just a few are close.
No, doom demons are not aliens. In doom, humans found, activated or something like that a gate to hell on mars. But it was a gate to another dimension, outside of this universe. And most gates even had that goat skull and 5 pointed stars on top. So it was on mars most of the fight, yes, but they were not from mars. PD: doom.wikia.com/wiki/Hell some lore to read about hell on doom.
I know right? Make you wonder what the sh*t the developers were thinking. I wasn't sure what the hell I was looking at when I first saw the Hell Knight on DOOM 3's cover...
Cuz the point was for it to be harror game fps survival. Like 3 more than 4. But D4 was awesom at the game play, I dislike the pace tho as well as the bright graphics, starts looking like UT3 in that case , so D4 has succeeded D 1 and D2. D3 was a different genre.
Doom 3 is a horror game, not an action game like Doom 1, 2 and reboot. The design of the enemies reflect that. Doom 1, 2 and reboot have a ''fun'' metal design to the demons. Doom 3 have a mennacing, scary design, specially lost soul, pinky and baron of hell...
Well, there were monsters and demons in the game which were pretty scarier than doom reloaded. Like the spiders, the child with wings, lost soul were scary as hell, the giant spiderling and Hellknight were most scary of them all. And then the mosnter that Sarge was turned into.
I swear the Revenant is one of the most overpowered thing ever. It launches missiles endlessly, have a working jetpack and can legitimately end you of you're out of guard? Hell man.
Can't wait for the update video that includes Doom Eternal. Kind of interesting that the monsters will look more like their original version. I think I do like the 2016 Mancubis look more.
Honestly, the DOOM 3 designs don't really appeal to me. It feels like they tried too hard to make them "unique" and instead made them too different from the originals. With enemies like the Pinky and the Cacodemon, well, you can't even tell what they're supposed to be from appearance alone. It's only apparent through their attacks. On the other hand, the DOOM 2016 designs feel faithful enough to the originals while still being new and interesting.
And it's one of the few designs from DOOM 2016 that was copied from 3. Clearly, they wanted to differentiate it from the Baron, which in the new DOOM looks almost exactly like its original design, so they stuck with what they had come up with in 3. Not a bad choice, in my opinion.
Every video game series goes through these phases. The classic that always fills us with nostalgia about a simpler time. The sequel that tries to improve upon the original, either succeeded wonderfully or failing miserably. The gritty, edgy remake that is up to its neck in how serious and mature it is A bunch of spin offs nobody really remembers. And finally the return to its roots, bringing back all we loved alongside an upgrade in graphics and mechanics.
I still like Doom 3. It was the scariest of the series. Playing in the dark with headphones on is still scary as hell. The new Doom is outstanding though. Probably the best fps game in years
I agree. I actually really loved Doom 3. However the new Doom just feels like it was developed specifically for me. Personally, Doom 2016 is my favorite game ever made currently.
Maybe but you see, DOOM 3 is shit because DOOM is about demons being trapped in a room with you and not the other way around. Yea, DOOM is a horror franchise but YOU are the scary one. DOOM 3 messed all that up.
@@nucleus691 obviously you never played doom 64, that's when the horror started and it was done really well, mixing old school with horror. One can even argue that the Playstation port of the original doom is a horror game because of the soundtrack change from the classic rocking tunes to the dark ambient music. So to me doom has always been a series about being on Mars fighting demons, sometimes it wants to be a straight up horror game or a fast paced twitch shooter.
Creme De La Creme I was joking, first of all. Second, I grew up with the first game and I never got bored. But since you like DooM 3 so much, I will respect your opinion despite the fact that you apparently don't like the original for some reason. I don't see why, considering there is still a huge fanbase surrounding the original, with new mods coming out every day to freshen it up. So if you think it looks old or ugly, you can download something to make it look nice. :)
The reason the Doom 3 revenant has translucent skin is because they were making a model to demonstrate the doom 3 skeleton technology. Then they reused it to make the Doom 3 Revenant.
I couldnt get away with Doom on the n64,and just didn't feel like or look like Doom, I actually sold my n64 a week after I bought it because of Doom n64, regret it now as I always wanted to play Mario64 :( Doom was brilliant on the PC, Ive got or had every Doom on either PC or console except the new Doom :(
Gabriel Dias I liked the scary one more, think the desing of some of the monsters was better in Doom 3 the cyber demon, caco demon, "pinky" and the posesed soul look more "hellish" in my opinion the clasic caco demon seems cartonish in my opinion aswell as the pinky but I guess that is part of the charm for some people
The problem I have with Doom 3 is mostly the weapons. They just feel extremely weak and boring for the most part. It has one of the worst assault rifles ever.
I don't think they're better, just different. I personally love the horror aspect of DOOM 3. I really hope we eventually get another DOOM that's horror.
I thought so too, then it full on bull charged at me. Nothing is scarier than seeing an old, slow enemy come back and then be able to full on sprint at you.
that and the fact the game didn't even feel like a doom game I was bored with it within 3 hours of playing not sure what ID software was thinking when they gave that game the green light
The Doom series if the ideal example of technological progression. The faithfulness to the visual style, mode of playing, and other variables makes all of them truly feel like successors of one another. And this compilation perfectly highlights the progression of technology around Doom's core style.
Just like others already said, DooM 3 is more of a Horror game, you just don't go there and shoot all the time like in DooM 4 and Doom 1 and 2. DooM 3 has darker places, some small unexpected zombie jump scares, and unexpected spawns. Hard to see places and such, because in DooM4 everything is brighter, you can see everything, nothing is scary at all, it's meant for fast phased run'n'gun shooter, gives you the role of badass person saving a planet. I personally really liked DooM3 because I'm horror genre person, I really like horror games and mysteries, where some people are just bored and just look for no brainer action shooter. It depends what makes your blood pumping you know, what's your taste. I personally enjoyed DooM3, but I like no-brainer shooters too.
Well, NOT ANYMORE! THE NEW DOOM GAME, (coming in the year 2019) DOOM ETERNAL, IS WAYYYYY MORE CLOSE TO THE ORIGINAL. THEY BROUGHT BACK THE FREAKIN' PAIN ELEMENTAL! MY FAVORITE DEMON IN THE SERIES!!!!! you should look up a trailer for it if you havent already. but i guess you have to wait a year or 2. it comes in 2018.
They took the original monsters basic anatomy and detail and gave them alot more realism, persay. So much detail that if Doom was reality, thats exactly what theyd all look like....minus the shotgun dudes from the first.
All the dooms in a nutshell. (not counting doom 64 as i havent seen gameplay of it or played it.) Doom 1 and 2: HELLO PPL! WE WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE A GENRE WE CREATED! FPS!!! IT'S REALLY FAST PACED AND EXCITING!! Doom 3: Hi guys I would like to stay quiet as we are about to be approached by a scary hoard of monsters. god save us all rip Doom 4: FUCK YOU DOOM 3! I HATE YOUR ASPECTS! 1 AND 2, COME HUG YOUR FATHER! LET'S KILL ALL EM DEMONS!!! RIP AND FUCKING TEAR!
I'll be honest, The Ultimate DooM is a pain in the ass, and beating DooM II like 17 maybe even 20 times made it a bit stale. TnT is horrible (MAP20 and above) and Plutonia gets a bit boring. Scythe. That's where at it. ;)
+Abd-Qadir Gilani there's like infinity GOOD map packs and mods you could be trying. doom never gets stale. quick tip: try playing the doom 2 campaign with "colorful hell" and a weapon pack of your choice (vanilla weapons might be a tad too weak for that, but you could try it anyways).
***** I play on GZDoom and for some reason it refuses to let me play P.WADs. I have to use GLBoom to play Scythe, my second favorite game after Skyrim.
I prefer the overall look and feel of the environments and enemies in Doom 3. Doom 4 is less creepier in terms of atmosphere, its more cartoonish in appearance.
That's what makes Doom 4 better. The original Doom was never meant to be a scary game, and when Doom 3 made it that way it made everything else bland. The more cartoonish appearance of Doom 4 is way more like the original, and definitely makes it the better sequel in my opinion.
Makes sense, they were kinda Doom 3's mascot back in the day, even being on the front cover, and it was probably easier to lift the design to differentiate them from the Barons than come up with a new one entirely.
+smgunit 02 Doom 3 did everything wrong, and it wasn't a Doom game. It replaced the fast paced action of the original with a B-grade survival horror experience that emphasized all the weakest aspects of the Doom franchise (e.g. it's barely existant story). It was much too easy, it required no movement skill, situational or spatial awareness or mastery of any kind; you just breezed through it one corridor and room at a time. The level design was truly awful; just a linear series of corridors with occasional rooms. The colourful environments of the original was replaced with gun-metal-gray and dog-shit-brown (paint will still exist in the future!). The harsh and fugly stencil shadows replaced the beautiful, realistic pre-compiled lightmapping that had been used since the original Quake; it performed so attrociously that the maximum number of enemies that could be used in a room was about 3 at a time. Graphically it compared unfavourably with the original Half-life released in 1998. The gun sounds were weak and plastic. It was a bad game judged on its own merrits and it was a terrible decision to shoe-horn it into the Doom franchise where it didn't belong.
+smgunit 02 Doom 3 was mindless. You could play it in your sleep. Doom 1-2 without save-scumming and on a decent skill setting was a masterpiece of movement and situational/spatial awareness.
2016 enemies feels intimidating at 1st then you git gud I mean when 1st I met a Hell Knight, I was running away. Later in the game I came head on to fight it. Having super shotgun helps
its a good idea but would have been nice if you slowed it down a bit so we can admire the monsters, most of the footage has you racing around the monster not allowing us to admire the detail.
***** the original Doom wasn't about ripping them all apart anyways, it's about punching and shooting those demons until they die. and Doom 3 was still a Doom game for me, because your main task is still the same just like the originals, Kill those demons and stop the invasion. and we all know that those words were the main definition of Doom. so yeah, still a doom game imo.
Never really sat down and compared but all of the games in the DOOM series are extremely fitting for their time period which is a rarity in gaming. DOOM 1 & 2, absolute classics that would pave the way for first person shooters. DOOM 3 took a more survival horror approach which brought an element of terror and fear to the series which wasn't present in the first two titles. DOOM 2016 is a modern take on the first two DOOM games and excels in every possible aspect. From incredible graphics processing, level design, and amazing soundtrack, to the all out onslaught of carnage the game throws at you every few minutes. Every game in the DOOM series delivers a high quality experience and sets a standard for their time period. Lets hope DOOM Eternal continues the legacy of one of the all time best series of games that history will ever bestow upon us.
Cause they went from sensless, relaxing, fun for the whole family shooting to a jumpscare survival horror. And as you know most people hate it when their favorite company/band/whatever experiment with something new cause most people are a bunch of fucking crybabies or stuck up old people.
GunFuMaster It's just dickheads that get mad when a game decides to try something new. As an actual fan of Doom I liked Doom 3, it did well and was a nice change of pace, they mixed a ton of action with horror which was cool, it's not a regular thing I'd want to see from a Doom game but I'd like that sort of thing every once in awhile. It's good to try something new from time to time.
No one ever said that Doom 3 *looked* bad. As a matter of fact, at the time of its release it set new standards for FPS graphics (along with Half-Life 2). The criticism was rather directed towards the gameplay which abandoned the fast-paced free-wheeling action of its predecessors in favor of a more tense and linear feel. Therefore, some players argue, it lost some of the replay value of the classic Doom games. That doesn't make it a bad game though.
Lassi Kinnunen a) The flashlight mechanic was to add to the difficulty, making you bring your flashlight up and down added to the horror element. b) Darkness is a flaw now? c) It's an old game not to mention a long one as well, some spawns were predictable while others were not. d) Sure if you played it that way, the pace is entirely up to you, playing fast paced turns it into an action game, playing it slow makes it more immersive in the horror element. e) Your reasoning for it sucking are dog shit, try again.
No that's the spider mastermind. There's a spider chick who uses telepathy to throw rocks and shit at you, but she doesn't have any artillery. Definitely not the same enemy, but it seems like it's a doom 3-only enemy, and it's not in any other doom (that I've played at least)
The Doom 3 designs are great. They get a lot of hate but in the context of a gritty slow-paced horror game they work very well. It's great to see the often almost goofy original monsters re-imagined as these nightmarish things. The Pinky and Lost Soul seemed especially controversial because they are so different from their original appearance but they're actually among my favourite redesigns because they were so surprising and original. My only gripe is that many of the designs seemed a bit too indepted to the xenomorph. Also the cacodemon looked like an octabrain from duke3d with obesity.
Very well done, I enjoyed the hell out of that, no pun intended. It's crazy that there was as much time between Doom 2 and Doom 3 as there was between Doom 3 and Doom... graphics improved so much from 2 to 3. They are certainly better now but not as drastically. Thanks for going to all that work, nice job.
Great video... I played the game back in 1994/5, and I didnt even know that the game had continued to evolve, the graphics have improved impressively, and interesting to see that many of the monsters from back then are still there in 2016, including the spider which was so difficult to kill... around the time I bought a box set including Doom II and some other merch including a metal Cyberdemon model, I'd love to know what happened to it, maybe I still have it somewhere
I hope to see the Arachnotron make a come back in more of the new Doom to come (there's got to be an expansion of some sort planned)! I also hope the new Doom brings the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind into more levels not as boss fights but as tough enemies like in the original Doom games.
Wasn't there a heavy weapon's guy in the new Doom? Also, since you used the introductory scenes from New Doom, you could have also used all the introductory scenes from Doom 3, like you did with the revenant. Also, the guardian in Doom 3 and the guardians in new Doom are completely different creatures.
Hey, thanks for your interest! Yeah, the guardians are very different, but still have similar names and are bosses: hell guard vs. guardian of hell. That's why I included them :) And the reason I only used the revenant introductory scene from Doom 3 was due to my initial intention to make just a "revenant comparison of all dooms"... I hadn't recorded the whole game like for the new DOOM, only a few scenes. Only after I thought it would be fun to compare all monsters, I decided to record more, so many of the monsters I showed in Doom 3 are staged by using a cheat for creating them... Regarding the heavy weapon's guy: according to the Doom-Wiki (doom.wikia.com/wiki/Monster) and my own experience there is no one that fits this term exactly and more important no one fires with a chaingun, but if one is willing it could be the Possessed Soldier although firing with a plasma rifle and being much weaker and appearing much more often than Doom 2's Heavy wepons guy, so no name-, weapon- or strenght-match. But hey, it's just a fun comparison, no scientific paper :)
Doom 3 was so well made and thought out for the time.... It was a Progressive horror game, decent FPS, filling you with fear and paranoia from the sounds alone! There were times I had to force myself into taking a step.... The whole story behind Mars city always gave me a wierd chilling feeling. They should make a doom 3 remastered and bump up a bit the number of zombies and monster making it more a survival game. Cool memories in the dark :D
i dont know why but the one released in 2004 still looks scary and the graphics aren't even that bad the overall atmosphere is quite dark and scary. I still play it sometimes. Newer is awesome but looks too easy with that supersoldier suit.
Doom 3 is the odd one out. Doom was never a "survival horror" type game, this was just shoehorned into 3 and it sucked all the fun out of it. Doom was about sprawling maze like abstract levels, tossing dozens of monsters at the player at a time; if you were fleet footed enough you could thread the needle and dance around avoiding the exploding barrels, projectiles narrowly and avoiding getting cornered. Doom 3 was just slow and dull. Don't think I ever saw more than three enemies at a time due to the stupid stencil shadows which looked worse than the lighting in quake 1 anyway.
Only one I agree with is the Pinky. Stupid design. Everything else actually felt more Hellish to me. Even the unused Arachnotron/Spider Masterminds are scarier looking.
Yeah, not an entity and not in any other game. But you can find it in one of my doom 2 videos (Final Fight against John Romero): th-cam.com/video/vIY-LKdTyD8/w-d-xo.html
+Game Intros & Finales in one of the normal levels in hell you can see the Icon of Sin. When you shoot the spot on his head he fires a spawn cube with a DOOM Guy in it
i played through doom 3 and this makes me want to do so again, wish i knew what happened to the cd, cant remember if i borrowed the game or rented it i never owned it myself
I also experienced this. Somehow Doom 4 and Doom 3 complement each other, so when you finish one you feel like playing the other. I still have my CDs intact, though I no longer have the time I once had. BTW, at the moment, Doom 3 is available at the discounted price of 1.64 Euros (down from 5) on Steam due to Winter Sales.
it got a lot of hate because it was 90% darkness and 10% audiologs jokes aside, it got a lot of hate because it turned the traditional doom formula into more of a slow paced horror game than the balls to the wall shooter that the original dooms were
I'm surprised by the fact that Doom 3 still holds up to these days, graphically and gameplay wise. Many of the games from those years look so outdated.
@@カムリン-k9u I played it on hard difficult, and it has been a pain since it was my first run and my first game that I had ever played on a PC. I refuse to play nightmare difficulty for the first time in my doom experience. I don't like it and it's a pain in the ass.... the enemy are extremely strong, much stronger than the Hard difficulty, there are no medikits around, just the health stations and your HP start slowly to get negative since only 25 HP left. The only good thing is that you start the game with the soul cube, which is OP
@Nathaniel Zawadzki I agree. But I also have to admit that I really like the doom 3 design for the cyberdemon. I cannot explain why, but it looks cool there. but I think it is great that eternal goes for the original design.
It is very funny to see how graphics has improved: the first 11 years between Doom and Doom 3 were an immense leap, while the following 12 were just a slight improvement in comparison.
"slight improvement" lol dude just look at the poly count, detail, and lighting in 2016 vs 2004. It's a much larger gradient than you're giving it credit for.
as much as i don't love doom3, he has a point. there's a lot of diminishing returns at play here, but the truth is hardware does not improve as fast as it used to.

Lol that's not how copyright law works, bud
I'm being sarcastic... sigh.
Right so music 20+ years old can still get you a copyright strike..
Vegito happy birthday had a copy write for 80 years...
I like how when he shows the monsters from doom 1,2 and 3 it's always pretty calm and alright. But when they show the monsters from Doom 4 it's always batshit crazy, with the screams and the bullets.
And the blaring music.
Rioplats personally I kinda liked the horror style more
Yami Bakura true,and true.
however I noticed that some " fans & newer players " to the Genre of doom world complained that That particular Doom " Horror " was just too Dark game play wise.

The sound design and demon designs were a complete horor for a 4 year old kid.
well I was scared of Crash Bandicoot so fuck
doom 4 is an incredible reboot of the original dooms. like or dislike doom 3 it feels more like a horror survival fps like fear or deadspace rather than a fast pace arcade shooter like 1-2-4

EnjoyCocaColaLight lol, someone isn't 14 years old anymore.
joseph barovich doom 3 felt so much like dead space and thats why I refuse to play it it makes me shit my pants and unlike doom 1 2 and 4 makes you feel like a badass while doom 3 makes you want to tremble in fear...

Almost everything in Doom3 is nightmare fuel, the games feels like a horror game.

playing doom 3 alone in the dark with good headphones back when it first released... that was nightmare fuel.
+Alvaro García
What you said could be applied to almost every demon in every game, moreso with demons from Doom 3 than Doom (2016).
Hey, the Doom demons ARE aliens. Do you even lore, bro?
No, doom demons are not aliens. In doom, humans found, activated or something like that a gate to hell on mars. But it was a gate to another dimension, outside of this universe. And most gates even had that goat skull and 5 pointed stars on top.
So it was on mars most of the fight, yes, but they were not from mars.
PD: doom.wikia.com/wiki/Hell some lore to read about hell on doom.
Basically being from another dimension and having bio-technology (Fucking hell guards) makes them aliens, doesn't it?
Some of the Doom 3 designs are fucking terrifying.
I know right? Make you wonder what the sh*t the developers were thinking. I wasn't sure what the hell I was looking at when I first saw the Hell Knight on DOOM 3's cover...
I still haven't gotten over those fucking cherubs. Also, the lost souls are scary as fuck.
Pinky (doom 3) now that's a scary sight
Yeah why call DOOM if your caracter is not badass
The Imp A.I was kind o the coolest thing in Doom 2016. It was the most sophisticated A.I i ever encountered in a FPS.
Robert what do you mean?
well. my statement was probably exagerrated. but i was kind of surprised how seemingly unpredictable the imps are.
yeah I love how they move about, I wish they made them tougher to kill though
they're imps lmao they're supposed to be frail
You must've not played a lot of FPSs then.
"Demonic presence at unsafe levels"

Doom 3 is a horror game, not an action game like Doom 1, 2 and reboot. The design of the enemies reflect that.
Doom 1, 2 and reboot have a ''fun'' metal design to the demons.
Doom 3 have a mennacing, scary design, specially lost soul, pinky and baron of hell...
Orange Zone You forgot about child demons with wings.
You mean Hell Knight? Baron of Hell wasn't in Doom 3
Makes me wonder what the shit is the developers are thinking about
Doom 4 or doom 2016 better more popular and scaryer
Well, there were monsters and demons in the game which were pretty scarier than doom reloaded. Like the spiders, the child with wings, lost soul were scary as hell, the giant spiderling and Hellknight were most scary of them all. And then the mosnter that Sarge was turned into.
Everyone always forgets about Doom 64 when making these comparison videos....
I swear the Revenant is one of the most overpowered thing ever. It launches missiles endlessly, have a working jetpack and can legitimately end you of you're out of guard? Hell man.
I take it back. Everything in Doom is overpowered, even the Doomguy.
oh no oh yes especially the doom guy
Do you mean doom slayer
Uh the new demon you'll hate then

Can't wait for the update video that includes Doom Eternal. Kind of interesting that the monsters will look more like their original version. I think I do like the 2016 Mancubis look more.

i think this is the remastered version Doom 3 BFG edition
rayano it is you can tell by the suit mounted flashlight.
rayano The graphics of the original already were good, the remastered version didn't upgrade much
The jump in graphics from Doom to Doom 3 is orders of magnitude more than from Doom 3 to Doom 2016
Doom 3 graphics was way ahead of its time

Look better than most Switch games.
The Hell Knight design is the only one that really looked pretty good.
And it's one of the few designs from DOOM 2016 that was copied from 3. Clearly, they wanted to differentiate it from the Baron, which in the new DOOM looks almost exactly like its original design, so they stuck with what they had come up with in 3. Not a bad choice, in my opinion.
The Doom 3 mancubus is pretty cool, not as much as the hell knight but still pretty accurate.
Look at these :

I completely agree but what do you think of the deaths do you prefer the new exploded bodies or the blowing up and melted corpses of doom 1 and 2
Every video game series goes through these phases.
The classic that always fills us with nostalgia about a simpler time.
The sequel that tries to improve upon the original, either succeeded wonderfully or failing miserably.
The gritty, edgy remake that is up to its neck in how serious and mature it is
A bunch of spin offs nobody really remembers.
@@craighundzinski5173 Same here, feels like Doom 2016 was made JUST for ME. Weird how that works!
Not to mention Doom 4s insane badassery that was its soundtrack.
I actually like the designs of many of the monsters in doom 3
Me too. Especially pinky.
No... you novices do not feel the nostalgia, you have not played enough of the original. DooM 3 is but a mere shadow to the glory of DooM 1 and 2.
+Jade Bloodrayne I grew up with Doom and I love Doom 3
@Jade Bloodrayne says the one with the brony profile pic
The Doom 3 Cyberdemon is an EARRAPE boss.

Doom 3 was and is an amazing horror action game.
StrongArm Elijah but both the original and the New one are way better
Gabriel Dias yes
Even though I know it'd tear my face off, the Pinky from Doom 4 is kinda cute.
I honestly feel that way for cacodemons. They somehow look cute for me
Yes, they are cute, but very dangerous
I thought so too, then it full on bull charged at me. Nothing is scarier than seeing an old, slow enemy come back and then be able to full on sprint at you.
Pinkies looks kinda like a dog pup
@@joshuawilliamson5885 I sort of agree with that, with the exception being the 2016 Cacodemons. They creep me out for whatever reason.

The Doom series if the ideal example of technological progression. The faithfulness to the visual style, mode of playing, and other variables makes all of them truly feel like successors of one another. And this compilation perfectly highlights the progression of technology around Doom's core style.

I haven't played doom 3 but from what I've seen it looks very slow compared to the other dooms
it was horror based
+James F
i love the name of that mod, "tape and flashlight"
I personally enjoyed DooM3, but I like no-brainer shooters too.
it's supposed to be a slow paced horror game and that didn't work out for some people
I agree entirely.
Actually 2016 looks more similar to original than doom 3 does. Impressive.

***** I play on GZDoom and for some reason it refuses to let me play P.WADs. I have to use GLBoom to play Scythe, my second favorite game after Skyrim.
I prefer the overall look and feel of the environments and enemies in Doom 3. Doom 4 is less creepier in terms of atmosphere, its more cartoonish in appearance.
thats exactly the vibe I got...Doom 16 never really had that fear factor
+theomegawerty doom isn't meant to be scary though. its meant to be the kinda game where you go "i wanna blow shit up" then you do xD
That's what makes Doom 4 better. The original Doom was never meant to be a scary game, and when Doom 3 made it that way it made everything else bland. The more cartoonish appearance of Doom 4 is way more like the original, and definitely makes it the better sequel in my opinion.
Seth Sinatra
to be honest I like both. I think it is good for the genre to have elements of both.

I remember Doom 3 being one of the first games that I played
classic doom monsters are best, I love their distinctive spot+grunt+death sounds
it's interesting how the Hell Knights were the only ones to retain their Doom 3 design
Makes sense, they were kinda Doom 3's mascot back in the day, even being on the front cover, and it was probably easier to lift the design to differentiate them from the Barons than come up with a new one entirely.
doom 2016 is more loyal to the original than doom 3 in terms of monster design.
And gameplay, level design, fun etc. Doom 3 was a terrible mistake.
doom 3 was a delve into horror. it was still good but it left the genre. doom 2016 is a reincarnation of doom and doom 2.
what design? are you talking about how it was no longer an action packed shooter and it became a horror game?
2016 enemies feels intimidating at 1st then you git gud

***** the original Doom wasn't about ripping them all apart anyways, it's about punching and shooting those demons until they die. and Doom 3 was still a Doom game for me, because your main task is still the same just like the originals, Kill those demons and stop the invasion. and we all know that those words were the main definition of Doom. so yeah, still a doom game imo.
Cyberdemon in doom 3 looks like a wimpy t rex, but the one in doom 2016 looks like megatron fueled with nightmare

Huh, Doom 3 actually didn't look too bad. I've been hearing a lot of hate for it.
GunFuMaster don't listen to the hate, doom 3 is fucking great. You should try it!

I also hope the new Doom brings the Cyberdemon and Spider Mastermind into more levels not as boss fights but as tough enemies like in the original Doom games.
is it just me or do the imps in the first doom look hairy, i actually thought they were until the new one
FU Lag More like ''fluffy''
..
Yeah they kinda look like chewbacca grew horns.
uh, i think it's just you. they look like leathery beasts to me.
***** leather?
They are made of clay
Wasn't there a heavy weapon's guy in the new Doom? Also, since you used the introductory scenes from New Doom, you could have also used all the introductory scenes from Doom 3, like you did with the revenant. Also, the guardian in Doom 3 and the guardians in new Doom are completely different creatures.
Hey, thanks for your interest!
Yeah, the guardians are very different, but still have similar names and are bosses: hell guard vs. guardian of hell. That's why I included them :)
And the reason I only used the revenant introductory scene from Doom 3 was due to my initial intention to make just a "revenant comparison of all dooms"...
9:03 hey guys I found trigglypuff!
kiwi senpai lol
i dont know why but the one released in 2004 still looks scary and the graphics aren't even that bad the overall atmosphere is quite dark and scary. I still play it sometimes. Newer is awesome but looks too easy with that supersoldier suit.
remake of the original.
+Faheem Saiyed the new one actually isn't that easy, at least not in my opinion. You can easily bet overwhelmed and it can be very unforgiving.
Ok Good to know that the gameplay isn't easy, but there are far too many games that have suits and the 2004 one is still scarier than the lot.
Faheem Saiyed
Doom 3's demon designs was by far the worst. All the demons look generic and gray
i really don't think you know what "generic" means
Only one I agree with is the Pinky. Stupid design.
Everything else actually felt more Hellish to me. Even the unused Arachnotron/Spider Masterminds are scarier looking.
The enemies of Doom 3 were awesome and scary looking
Ch4oTiK the pinky demon design was one of the best things about doom 3. tf are YOU smoking
Eh, if that's your opinion.
Great video, thank you.
Is there a reason the Icon of Sin wasn't in there? Di you not know about him or was it because he isn't an entity?
Yeah, not an entity and not in any other game. But you can find it in one of my doom 2 videos (Final Fight against John Romero): th-cam.com/video/vIY-LKdTyD8/w-d-xo.html
Game Intros & Finales Ah.
Game Intros & Finales Anyway the Icon is in the 2016 game, in case you didn't know.
Hmm, was it in a secret level where you play the old Doom levels? Because in the main game I haven't seen in anywhere.
Rezuvious I still have my hard case and cd book with all three cds, it's sadly broken though because I played doom 3 so damn much.
Coco Bandicoot-"You can order from Amazon.com if want to play Doom 3 all over again. :D :D"
KaramelLolaBunnie91 or just pay $20 on steam and get doom 1-3
I also experienced this. Somehow Doom 4 and Doom 3 complement each other, so when you finish one you feel like playing the other. I still have my CDs intact, though I no longer have the time I once had. BTW, at the moment, Doom 3 is available at the discounted price of 1.64 Euros (down from 5) on Steam due to Winter Sales.
it got a lot of hate because it was 90% darkness and 10% audiologs
jokes aside, it got a lot of hate because it turned the traditional doom formula into more of a slow paced horror game than the balls to the wall shooter that the original dooms were
I'm surprised by the fact that Doom 3 still holds up to these days, graphically and gameplay wise. Many of the games from those years look so outdated.
Outdated games are the best. Like Wolfenstein, Duke Nukem, and Doom. Also some Angry Birds games.
gj man thx for the video
If they keep the same release schedule then Doom 5 will be around 2027
I'll make a new video then ... if TH-cam will still exist... ;)
they need too make a new doom every year
Anikin Govannon no its not cod
so you dont want doom games frequently?
imagine how DOOM 5 would look.
Doom 3 Hellknight was the scariest
I agree.
what's that song at the end of the video? it sounds so familiar.
Just a Doom song, from Doom 1 or Doom 2.
is the song named "Into the Sandy's City" for Doom II
you're welcome.....
Santyss 12 You're
OH THE NOSTALGIA
seeing the evution of my favorite DOOM demon the revenant
it brings back so many memories of rage
Doom 3 is creepy.... but really good!
Agree. My sister didn't play it too long. She even played it on Marine(Medium).
The only good thing is that you start the game with the soul cube, which is OP
when I saw the doom 3 pinky for the first time I thought is was a new enemy
Yeah, it wasn't even pink! As dismal as most of the palette is for DOOM, they still made pinky predominantly pink.
It wasn't a demon though, just a mutant disabled dude.
DOOM 4's colour palette was bad? How's that?
That's the movie. Which isn't canon with Doom 3.
They actually had to change the pallet because people didn't like the dark coloration.
How is it bad?
Doom 16 demons etc seem a little cartoonish to me. I prefer how they all look in Doom 3
*Looks at Doom 3 Mancubus*
Doom 3s monsters look nothing like demons.
Specially for the song at end.. Nice! Mancubus phase should be a good choice to.
I say Doom (2016) had the best demons, in my case. The fluid animation and the Improved AI really gets the "Challenging" vibe to it, y'know?
but the design of the cyber demon looked really bad. It looked too cartoonish and comical
@Nathaniel Zawadzki I agree. But I also have to admit that I really like the doom 3 design for the cyberdemon. I cannot explain why, but it looks cool there. but I think it is great that eternal goes for the original design.
@Nathaniel Zawadzki agree
Doom key skins
Doom&Doom2:Chip
Doom3:keycard
Doom4:skull
DOOM 2016 uses both
Keycards: UAC Facilities
Skulls: All parts of Hell
It is very funny to see how graphics has improved: the first 11 years between Doom and Doom 3 were an immense leap, while the following 12 were just a slight improvement in comparison.
Stefano Lucchetta Afra more like doom 3 was the downfall and doom 2016 was the revival
