    It's so very disrespectful to Adam Johnson's family to continue to insist this was a freak accident.I'm sure Petgrave didn't wake up with the intention of killing Adam Johnson, with that being said, he did. Originally, I, as most people, without seeing the video, assumed it was an unfortunate result of a player down on the ice being accidentally clipped with a skate incident. The media also played a big part in the terminology of misleading headlines. After seeing many "roundhouse-kick" comments, I broke down & watched the video. It's painfully clear that there are not one but two distinct kicking motions. This is manslaughter at a minimum. What is relevant & will be relevant in the context of an investigation is his character on the ice, his suspensions, his penalty minutes, game ejections, and interactions with on ice officials. I have empathy for what Matt Petgrave may be enduring, but my sympathy lies with Adam Johnson's family, friends, and teammates. Rest in peace, Adam. Condolences to Adam's family, friends, and teammates. ❤️

    He was deliberately kicked in the throat & the guy even tried to kick him a second time.
    Why is this so hard for people to see? It’s disgusting.
    Just like so many can’t or refuse to see that a small portion of the population victimize not only their own community but all other communities around them, it outshines everything around them & hurts those in their own community trying to just live & don’t behave like that.
    This kind of perpetual unending violence Asians have been dealing with on a scale no others can comprehend for a very long time.

    So his negligence killed a man.
    Criminal negligence causing death (section 220)
    the breach amounts to a wanton or reckless disregard for the lives and safety of others. a person died as a result. the act or omission constituting the breach of a legal duty caused the person's death.

    It does seem, from the footage, that the player had poor impulse control and that they sought to foul Adam in a sneaky way. However I find it highly improbable that he meant serious injury or death.
    An avoidable accident if he had played fair.

    u know as freak of an accident as it was. why dont players wear protection from being cut by ice skates? like ur neck is completely exposed and ur doing a full contact sport with everyone having wooden sticks, a hard puck traveling super fast and blades on their feet. like we have lightweight breathable material that can prevent slashes and cuts... just protect the neck man

      @Ebonfeather 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      In Canada in the junior leagues (CHL, WHL, OHL, QMJHL and more) they have mandatory safety equipment for the wrists and also the ankles. In the AHL (second highest league in North America) it is also mandatory. In the NHL (highest league in the world) it's not yet mandatory, but according to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, almost everyone wears already safety socks. Right now there is a lot of work behind the scenes going on and super stars like Eric Karlsson testing new technology for neck guards (basically the undergarments made of kevlar. That way it cannot be cut through. So a protective shirt would then look like a turtle neck, without having to wear an actual armor piece around the neck). The truth of the story is that there is hardly any sort of that equipment for the neck available right now, and those that are, aren't comfortable to wear. T.J. Oshie is an NHL player who owns a company that produces and develops new protective items, and they try to push for player safety since years! He also wears neck guards on the ice since the accident in England.
      Hockey has become much safer in the past decades. I mean until 1997 there were still players not even wearing a helmet on the ice in the NHL, the roughest and most elite league in the world. And even today when helmets are mandatory, some still refuse to wear a visor to protect their eyes. New players coming into the NHL must wear visor, though. So... things are being done, but time in Hockey just flows a bit slower, and an accident like this with Adam Johnson is rare. The NHL exists since 1917 and not once did a player die from an injury like Johnson. That is the main reason why there are hardly any proper neck guards on the market as of right now.
      Also a small side note: they don't play with wooden sticks. Hockey sticks are (since the 90s) made of carbon fiber.

  • @marcdavies137
    @marcdavies137 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

    NOT a freak accident. Or unavoidable collision. Watch the video & slow-mo (up to impact). Clear intent to change path/position and make a last-ditch illegal foul, with a raised leg to his side, to impede an opponent who had outmanoeuvred him, and was about to skate past him with the puck towards goal. By a notoriously ‘dirty’ player with track record for bad fouls including with his legs (highest penalty minutes in the whole league). This one went very wrong. Seems he misjudged it (while partly off-balance?). Tragic fatal outcome was no doubt unintended. But it WAS a direct consequence of his bad split-second decision and risky reckless action, to make deliberate contact at speed with a raised leg. It WAS a foreseeable risk. It WAS avoidable. Must be held accountable. Justice for Adam.
    Good to see this report at least highlights the police investigation and involvement of hockey experts. Shocking that Media coverage has just downplayed it as purely a “freak accident” without any acknowledgement of the other possibilities being widely discussed. Hope it gets the honest coverage it / Adam deserves as investigations progress..

    Trying to jump over an opposing player sliding on the ice after diving at the puck only to result in making contact with the skate edge is a freak accident. The EIHL is dumber than a box of rocks. Mandating neckguards starting 1 January 2024, only acts an excuse for what the league itself witnessed while simultaneously making it an unwritten rule that players are permitted the additional privilege where skate blades are now free to use however one may wish within EIHL league play.
