I was at that game. The entire arena was so concerned and quiet. You could have heard a pin drop. As Islander fans, we couldn't care less if he was on the opposing team. We were all scared for Erik, and were hoping he would be okay. Seeing a player leave on a stretcher is upsetting. I hope he makes a full recovery.

Браннстрем был доставлен в местную больницу и находился в состоянии бодрости, используя свои конечности, говорится в заявлении "Сенаторз".

Anyone who says this hit was dirty is a 🤡 Its an almost textbook hit into the boards. Its just unfortunate he flipped and landed on his neck. Im a Rangers fan too. Trust me if I had legit chance to trash Clutterbuck I would, but facts are facts. I watched it many times and in slow mo. He comes at him from the side, no cross check. Just drives him into the boards and the guy happens to flip over. It actually happens all the time in hockey, just most times players are able to brace themselves for the fall. He just unfortunately ended up landing on his neck. Hope he makes a full recovery, but there was nothing illegal or dirty about that hit.

You see this sort of play all the time where the opponent brings the knee in behind on hits. Its partly for balance and partly to ensure the hit puts the player down. It’s kind of amazing we don’t see concussions more often from that sort of thing. Going over backwards like that makes you pretty defenceless, and being a big tall guy makes it worse.

      This is the right take.
I've previously commented here that this was a slew foot, but my earlier comment wasn't quite right... It's similar to a slew foot.
Something needs to be done to get rid of using a leg to take a player down like that on a hit. Not sure *how* honestly, since it's hard to see in real time, but it's just far too dangerous to not do anything. This time it was a concussion, but the next time it might be a broken neck that paralyzes someone.

Lots of slew foots don't involve contact with the actual skate (watch any slew footing compilation). The key difference here is that the initial primary contact was the hit on the upper body and the contact from the leg came after the initial contact.

Clean hit not even too hard guy just looked like he fell really hard on that shoulder neck area glad to hear he is doing ok. It's always scary! When sime just gets hit wrong or falls wrong especially in a sport as fast and hard as hockey.

How is that a clean hit? He didn't have the puck and you can see the islander pushing him into the boards 1:32.

Plus look at Clitterbucks back leg. Is there contact with Branstrom’s legs?

This is how you can tell who the real hockey fans are. It was 100% a clean hit. He had the puck when Clutterbuck went at him. You are legally allowed to finish your check even if the player releases the puck. Secondly it wasn't a slew foot at all. He was coming at him from the side and bracing for impact. There was absolutely nothing dirty or malicious about this play. Just like when you lay a great hip check on someone it can send them flying, that's all this is. Definitely unfortunate, but one of the many risks of being a professional hockey player. Hope he makes a full recovery.

@@RoughRaiders13 dude clutterbuck loaded up for the hit 2 seconds after the puck was gone... you're allowed to finish your check. He hadn't fucking started his check. Are you blind?

F**..... Had a really similar incident like that happen. Slamming the back of my head except it was on a concrete rink, not ice. Man i hope he's ok...

Not gonna say it’s dirty but I’ve played hockey my whole life and clutterbuck knew exactly what he was doing. He tried dumping him after the hit, just not on his head.

Exactly. He literally trips him and you can very clearly tell on the way he moves that it's all done with maximum malicious intent.

repeating it time and time again doesn't make it a dirty hit. It was an accident and just momentum. Get over it Esmerelda@@miranda92051

seizures are difficult to witness. Hope he makes a quick recovery. Modern tech should be able to make a better helmet for contact sports…raise the certification level …better shock absorption requirements….that being said, the one he had on, may have saved his life.
