"Don't trash your former employer" is the most on-point advice for this type of question. I've asked (and been asked) this question countless times. The goal is not to get applicants to divulge the true reasons why they no longer work for their previous employer. The goal is to test the applicants' ability to remain tactful and diplomatic in difficult situations. As a recruiter, I understand that applicants don't leave employment because everything was fine and dandy with their previous employer. What I want to know is the applicant's ability to deal with difficult situations and to leave any resentment behind.
I quit recently and i m have been questioned like crazy about this questions and for them is never enough to hear that by time strategy of the management is changed and my straight doesnt fit for the role and there is no future opportunities for my carrer growth and im ready for new challenges and this opportunity makes me excited.
How do I answer that question? Easy, why did you leave your old job, well I wanted more out of the company there was no room to grow, I am looking for a company that consider a person like me that is eye to detail, goal oriented and want more out of life then a receptionist position becuz I am so good at it. I want to be your assistant some day I want long term with a company do you have this in your company sir??? I turn it to them and we keep going back and forth.
Thank you Mr. Dan. Before I engaged with my interview a couple of weeks ago, I watched your videos regarding the interviews. Now, the company called up and they said that I nailed it and I will be having the job at the end of the month. Thank you so much for the inspiration. Hope to see more videos.
In reality some boss wants to hear the naked truth. Being too positive, too skillful proves that you practice too much and they dont like that. Thats the life, not always pinky
Wow, this is absolutely helpful because it doesn't only teach us how to answer that one question but also teaches us how we should CONSTRUCT our answers professionally which applies to other interview questions as well. Highly recommended!
Hi Dan, just want to say thank you for sharing you’re experiences. I just went on my interview yesterday and nailed it thanks to you’re wise words. Thank you so much.
Why I left my last job? last project? last team? Answers: Had a terrible boss. Looking for a positive environment. Growth in career. Try a different role.
Can you really say you had a terrible boss? Dan says you shouldnt talk badly about your last company, also the question will come up why the bad boss targeted you, there must be something wrong with you. I also left a job because of bad boss once, there was a failure for a testcase in his software and he tried to put the fault onto me, and he didnt tell me even anything about it when it happened or after, only some time after in a team meeting, he had the urge to blame me for it, although I wasnt involved in it ... gotta love life when you think people in academical environments act with reason, etc., but in the end you often face manipulative narcist assholes ... the problem also is people think of language as a tool for reason, in my opinion this only holds true if people actually try to be reasonable, when some begins lying I dont see much of a difference to a physical assault ... I didnt say anything about that, because its hard when you someone who is good in manipulation, I mean would have gotten right and all but I would still lose my reputation in the company and didnt want to give him the feeling that he is the guy who assaults me and I am a victim, because this guy would lose hard in an IQ test and I would smash his face easily in fist fight, so why give such a low life a feeling of power that he urges for so much, so I just found myself another job and left and got a good review when I left ... needless to say now after 2,5 years 4 other guys left, basically he has a completely new team ... I also ask myself sometimes why life gives these narcist persons, who dont have anything but narcism, no high IQ, no physical prowess, these positions of power, current state of civilization makes nature malfunction hard here
@@cyronixed if I have the same boss as yours, I will also definitely leave that organization. Imagine having to deal with him every single day. I love my life, not worth the time to be stressed to people like your boss. And it is good to know that you have found another company. God bless you.
