- I love the Hemingway pouches that @centerstreetquilts created. As I watched her create I wondered if I could use my As Many As Technique with her idea and get two from one. I worked!
Fabric makes As Many As pretty easy, we can make fabric any size we want! lol
If you are new to this channel, check out my other channel @MaymayMadeIt for paper crafting.
For the supplies I used in the video today check out www.sewcharmingquiltshop.com
I am convinced that every video where someone just slips the zipper pull on easy-peasy was edited to remove the 576,092,855 times they tried and failed to install it, LOL. These are very attractive, and what a clever way to put them together. Hopefully Santa will bring the zipper tape & pulls I had on my wishlist so I can make some of these in January. This is an excellent tutorial; thank you for sharing it with us all 🙂
I know what you mean. Zippers are my nemesis but I practiced with the tape before I sewed it in, over & over & over (you get the idea) until I got the knack. Good luck😊
For real, tho!😂
I have been trying for over 2 hrs.
@@Pronge1948 Oh, dear. Are the edges fraying? The edges always fray on mine after about 3 attempts.
@@susanowen1709 yes they did. I finally walked away for a bit. Went back for another try and finally got it. I want to make another but don’t want to go thru that again.
Very nice tutorial! I love that you put two pouches together with no waste! Genius! Love that binding technique for small projects too! Bravo!!!❤
Despite cutting it the wrong way, I still made two Hemingway pouches that are very useful. I donated one, with a book, to a little library on a telephone pole in our neighbourhood. Thank you for your instructions which I should have followed more carefully!
Such a great idea! And there’s one close to me! I’m definitely going to donate some. That’s great practice!
How thoughtful!! 👏🏻📚
I enjoyed your video for the Hemingway Pouch! I had bought the pattern from Center Street, but hands down your instructions are the best. Love your style. Liked & Subscribed!! Becky from Parker CO
Can vouch for how easy (and fun) this pouch is to make. The possibilities are endless. I used a larger tooth zipper because it was a two-color number that went well with my fabric, but I think yours lays flatter and looks better in the top corner using a smaller scale zipper. The pattern also has a glasses case size that would be perfect for sunglasses (as a stocking stuffer.)
You are brilliant!
I had to chuckle, I watched another person doing this pouch and thought - we could just make 2 out of 1 larger piece of fabric - and then I watched yours, and there it is! I think paper crafting has helped my brain think differently about fabric.
Look at you!! Love it, so cute, would make great gifts!
LOVE this, thank you for sharing, looking forward to lots more fun projects!
Has anyone figured out the size of the original square before she cut it? Thanks
What size was your rectangle?
I bought the pattern. Your video is very helpful. What sewing machine are you using? Where do you buy the zipper tape? Thanks
I am using a Singer Quantum Stylist 9960, I love it! I get most of my supplies at www.sewcharmingquiltshop.com
This is my new favorite tutorial! I love your laid back style. The fact you don’t strive for perfection, you just do it because you love it! I am that way too! I will henceforth be backspacing all my projects! I love it!!!
To install the zipper pull, remove 3 or 4 teeth from one side, add zipper to the other side, and then add to the side that has the teeth remover
A very good tutorial...your admitting your own difficulties with those zips is very reassuring!! And your tips are very user- friendly..just have a go! Great idea and I shall be having a go, definitely. From West Yorkshire in UK.
I recently bought the Hemingway pattern and watched a few videos about it, but your method is the best. I love the two for one approach and no waste is the cherry on top! Thank you!!
Love the 2 from 1! Try binding from the outside side, - press away from the center, fold to the back & clip, then stitch in the ditch from the front to secure the binding.
I will next time because the bound seam was too bulky inside after I turned it right side out. I think binding on the outside will look fine.
Oh, glad to see a new channel. The other zipper tutorials are edited, until they get a successful shot of the zipper slipping right on. And you showing that it’s not perfectly square is refreshing. Other tutorials think they’re showing the perfect project technique. But I’m not perfect. This would be great for tablets or bigger for that laptop that goes back and forth to school in a backpack, with food crumbs, lint, and who knows what else. Thanks for the great idea.
LOVE LOVE LOVE this tutorial. You definitely have a great way of explaining the process. I can't wait to make one.
I bought this pattern from Center Street, and it was very easy to make!! But you are a genius with that one cut of the fabric!!!! No waste… 🎉❤. I made the smallest one and even put a finger loop on it, just above the top portion of zipper. And wouldnt this make a great little crossbody bag also?! I’m gonna figure that one out too!!
Thanks for your excellent video!
So clever! And great job with the tutorial! I'm nervous about zippers, but this bag is so quirky, it really temps me to give it a go!
on the zipper if you clip off a few teeth on one side and put pull onto the longer side it gives you a little extra room to get the next side into the pull. Also they make a zipper jig. Don't get the ones that are for towel holders... they look like a silver teardrop shape ... they are not helpful in my experience. Some ppl use a fork. I finally just started using the shorter teeth on one side method. I do put it down onto a table and use two fingers (one on each side of sip tape) and wiggle zipper pull it works lol.
What a great pouch. I had never seen these before. Excellent tutorial. Thank you.
The YT algorithm suggested your video and I’m so glad it did (I often question what they suggest I watch ☺️). You won me over when you said something like you weren’t the greatest at this but you just loved sewing, and I couldn’t agree more. It’s about the enjoyment we get from our hobby, not whether it’s perfect.
I’d never seen one of these pouches and loved your tutorial. You didn’t prattle on unnecessarily and your enjoyment with your sewing was evident in your voice. I love your accent by the way. Thank you and best wishes from rural Victoria, Australia. Cheers, Lisa 😀🇦🇺
I was at a Quilt Retreat this weekend and a lot of women were making the Hemingway bag. I was working on other things but watching them make it. Your instructions are so much more clear than how they were doing it. I’m making one tomorrow afternoon thank you.
I'm going to try this Thank you for sharing. I'm also going to try to add 2 tabs for a cross body strap.
I did it! I added 2 D rings for a cross body- Hemingway purse
Your filmed this just right. When you said this is very, very easy. I think you did a very good job with the technique and instructions. I have all the supplies needed. Thank you so much. Keep it up.
i hope you keep making videos..i love how you teach, how you talk, normal lol
What a great idea. You make it look so easy. Sewing has ever been my strong point, but I do love to sew. I just might have to give this a try. Thank you.
Such a clever idea! Thank you for sharing!
Bonjour pourrai t on nous donner les dimensions pour faire la pochette pour une tablette merci
Well done!! Thank you for the extra knowledge about getting two bags from fat quarters! Sweet!
Hi. Really enjoyed this video. The quilting works very well for the pouch. I watched while having a coffee thinking, I have some lovely fat quarter fabrics I could use for this.
So, I'm going to rush through my chores and then start sewing. Best wishes from a fellow crafter in the UK
I love these pouches and made a few smaller ones for my rotary cutters, so versatile and works well using leftover quilt sandwiched layers
I buy everything from Missouri star quilt company! They have the BEST prices and shipping is free in the USA over a certain amount (I think it's like 50.00) and in' canada it only costs me 20.00 and no duty fees etc!!
Definitely plan on making! Thanks for the tutorial, it was great!❤😊
I love it Yes I’ll give it a try. I need to make a cover for a laptop. Thank you
I made two of these using your tips, so much less wastage and they are still nice size pouches, thanks.
What a clever idea! I just love this. These bags would also be ideal for travelers to use for packing. I can see so many uses for these. Thank you for sharing your idea!
If you use the walking foot to quilt it won't be as distorted plus pinning or basting it helps I love the way you did 2 from 1 FQ! Genius!
Love this tutorial! So cleaver, best way to install a zipper.
I agree, putting the zipper pull on, is the hardest. I’ve seen people use a fork, but that never worked for me. I wonder, if instead of binding the inside seams, if your serger would work?
Loved this tutorial! That being said, as a seasoned quilter to one who is starting out, do yourself a favor, if you won't cut paper with a dull blade, don't cut fabric with a dull blade. You not only put yourself in harm's way if that cutter slips but you also run the risk of ruining your cut which will impact your piecing. And, please, take the few minutes necessary to press the wrinkles out of your fabric. You don't need to steam or starch, just get the wrinkles and folds out. They, too, have impact on your cuts and your piecing. Looking forward to your next project!
This is great!! I will have to try this soon!!
I'm very excited to learn a new craft medium with you. You inspire me so much with your beautiful.paper craft skills! I recently caught the quilting bug so I have been scanning TH-cam for easy beginner projects and stumbled upon your new channel and I immediately subscribed. You are kind of an addiction. Lol. Keep em coming and I'm excited to learn right along with you.
Thank you so much for this video. I did purchase the pattern but this all made it simple in using any size and creating 2 makes it less wastage which I love ❤
Thanks for the fun video. Would you mind sharing the finished sizes of the two made from a fat quarter?
Great tutorial!!!!! I am ordering zipper tape asap.
Thank you for a sewing project!! I will be making these for my grands in their favorite themed fat quarters, dinosaurs and unicorns.
I am so glad you now have a sewing channel as I haven't done any paper crafting in a couple of years. I tend to go in spurts as to what I want to do.
Excellent tutorial by the way Love how you put these together and I've just cut 4 out lol!! I'm waiting on the zipper tape and pulls I've never used them before so hopefully mine goes as well as yours.. thanks for sharing 😜from Nottingham England x
Beautiful pouch, thanks for sharing
The tutorials for these pouches started popping up in my feed a couple of weeks ago. This one makes sense! Easy construction and method. I'm used to making ByAnnie bags, so the zipper pull was quite easy.
Made my first 2 today. They won't be my last.
Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for sharing this video - I found it so helpful. Greetings from North Wales UK. 🙋🏻♂🙋🏻♂
Brilliant!! Thanks for sharing!!
Thank you so much for your tutorial. I learned a couple techniques here. I bought the pattern and followed their directions but I really like how you do the binding. I think it makes it less sick in one of the corners. I wasn’t liking how thick the one corner was, but by doing your method of binding, it should make the turned out corner much cleaner. I also like your explanation and how we can make two at once. I took the scrap piece from using the other pattern and made a bag but I liked your explanation. It gave me more confidence to try with any piece of material. Looking forward to checking out your channel.
Wonderful tutorial! You are such a good teacher. I have made many ByAnnie patterns. Love the zippers and the wide tape, but those pulls can be awful. Looking forward to more tutorials!
Sitting here in bed with a early morning cup of watching you make this book cover or little cover and loving the way your video is so friendly and encouraging , well done and happy Christmas from ireland
Me too but in England!☕️😊
Me too in Scotland
Love it going to try it
I love your accent and sense of humor about your sewing. You do a great job! Thanks for sharing the tip on making 2 bags from one piece of fabric!
Thank you for the video. At the end I wanted to see you insert the book into the finished pouch.
Love this. Will have to try this. Thanks ❤
For this larger size you measured 3 inches from the middle for your diagonal cut. How do I figure out how much to measure from the middle when I make a smaller bag?
Please explain “as man as “ style! Sounds like me! 😻. P.S. Came here via Cog Hill video! 💕
Just made my first one but used leftover batting instead of the soft n stable...did u find that binding the inside left alot of bulk in the corner??? I'm thinking I might just serge it (except at the zipper) and see if that helps
I also have problems with the zipper pulls, but I did finally figure out something that helps. After you insert one side and go to insert the 2nd, don't insert it directly straight into the zipper pull. Angle it away so that you are inserting at an angle. I wish I had a picture I could share. If I insert the left side first, when I go to insert the right side, the teeth are inserted with me holding the tape at an angle, the bottom of the tape not parallel to the first tape, but angled away slightly. I do hope you can figure that out.
Thank you first time watching you , really enjoyed your video ,going to have a go at making these.
Love how you did that
What is the end size of the pouches? Trying to figure out if my book will fit. Thanks!
Great idea for gifts! I learned how to use the zipper tape, had no idea that could be done. I usually stay away from any zippers 🤪. Thank you.
Great tutorial! Yes- putting the zipper pull back on requires a lot of tries!!
This is wonderful I need two. Though I want to fit my iPads. Do you know what size square to start with?
Absolutely Perfect. your a genius no waste
Have youever used a walking foot? Your quilting and binding will not go all wonky.
Great tutorial but can i ask what size did the pouches end up?? thank you..
Great tutorial. Thank you! Will be back for more!
Thank you for showing this! I knew there had to be a way to cut the fabric on an angle instead of throwing the top piece away or make a small pouch from it. I would rather do two good sized ones at once. I have seen several people doing these pouches. They are all easy but I am so happy to find yours since it shows how to cut the fabric at an angle to start with.
AFTER WATCHING THIS FANTASTIC VIDEO, I DID FOUR SMALL POUCHES JUST SO I CAN GET USED TO DOING THIS AND I FREAKIN LOVE IT! IT'S SO FAST! AND YES IT DOES MAKE GREAT GIFTS!
GREAT tutorial!
Wow this was an amazing sewing tutorial! Way to go MayMay! I so wish my sewing machine didn’t break a couple months ago. I think I need to find a used one to replace it. Many decades ago I sewed a lot of my children’s clothes and other easy projects. This book cover is so cool. My daughter reads like I breathe….always has her nose in a book and this would be wonderful gifts for her. I think at Christmas she got at least a dozens new books to read and all her bookshelves are full. Thank you for sharing this new endeavor with us and I look forward to more. ☺️
I love this idea and the video too. I'm hoping to try to do something like it soon 😊
What a terrific gift and you make it look possible! I can't wait for my sewing table to be moved over and my craft room to be reassembled. It will be a terrific 2024 with Maymay!! Happy new year
I am definitely going to try this! Thank you for your video! Merry Christmas!
Thanks for the great instructions!
I always have one of the zipper tape a half inch longer.
Thank you! Great tutorial! I enjoy making bags from Center Street Quilts. They look so nice inside and out. I don't know what I did but all of a sudden the zipper pull was on and the zipper matched perfectly. Yay!
This is a great tutorial, thank you.
Brilliant! Thank you☺️
I was playing around and used my wrapper from the Sonic that my hamburger was in and mad a smaller version of this project I thought it turned out pretty well my kids liked it and they don't always like Granny's project so they tell my true!!
Thank you. Great solution, no fabric was wasted. I’m making these too, just need to buy the zipper.
Such a neat project ! And you did a great job showing us how you did it. Thanks Maymay !
Well any kind of zipper work?
You need to angle the zipper at 45 degrees to get the pull seated! It works like a charm! Love this video!!
Wow that looked easy. Thank for sharing.
Love this! Can’t wait to make some. ❤️
you know Maymay sweetie! THIS IS BY FAR THE BEST VIDEO ON THIS PROJECT I HAVE EVER SEEN! I LIKE THIS AND YOUR PROCEDURE IS SO SIMPLE! I LOVE IT!!!
OHMYGAWWD! MAYMAY I DID IT! IT'S THE CUT! IT'S ALL ABOUT THE CUT! WOW!
I LOVE THE IDEA OF PUTTING A STRAIGHTPEN IN THE ZIPPER GREAT IDEA!
My machine came with that thing and I had no idea what it was for until this video! Thank you!
Dealing with back spasms so no sewing for me for a bit, but I'm going to try this as soon as I can. Great tutorial!
Love this idea!!!❤
Great tutorial. I love using the As Many As idea for sewing.
Also, check out That Purple Thang. It is even more useful than a stiletto. I love that it has a 1/4" square on the one end for checking seams.
I am glad you posted because I have the Purple Thang and I love it. I wondered if I was missing something with the stiletto, which I still may get. I never paid attention that the quarter inch measure is available on the end of the Thang
I have the purple thing, I just love the feel of the stiletto. But they are both great tools.
