Oh I love this!! Thank you for showing all the ways to use the triangles!! And the one at the end with the one block, you mentioned it may be your favorite, I understand! I made a pieced backing for a quilt recently, and my daughter and I decided it was so cozy and comfy looking, I purchased backing for it and the quilt it was to back. We just love that big pieced quilt! 🥰😂♥️
TY for the wonderful tips about squaring... I could watch you all day! I agree with being your own designer... it's the best way to use up a stash of fabric... I wish more people would give this a try because i know a LOT of people my age that are going to be leaving behind a LOT of fabric! Be well... Hugs, GrammaBabs
I know exactly what you mean so I've started making a concerted effort this year to use up fabric and not buy fa bric unless it's backgrounds and some solids, well some patterns if they'll work for borders. I'm trying!
Inspiration for so many quilts... I've been searching for the right idea for small quilts. I am making small quilts for police to have in the trunk of their car, for children, in stressful situations. Quilt comfort hugs, beautiful idea 💝
Thank you for sharing! I am new to quilting and even sewing altogether. I have been intimidated by anything other than squares. I’m making quilts for foster care kids for practice. Thanks for the inspiration!
Lovely and truly beautiful. I see two favorites that I wish I had for myself! Hopefully the children are delighted and will take great comfort in these wonderful works of art. 💖
I love half square triangles I love what you did with all 😅quilts I would love to try the one that looks like a bunch of triangles around the world lol.❤🎉 I love the colors to.
Thank you again for sharing your ideas with us! You never disappoint with your videos and you always inspire me and I am a visual learner so I appreciate what you do on your videos for us…. Your videos are my favorite quilting videos and I love them all and always look forward to seeing them so thank you so very much!!
Mabel!! You Tube listens to everything I say; I really have to stop talking out loud to myself while sewing. This time YT got it so right. I've been collecting 4inch triangles from a sstitch and flip quilt. Beautiful blues. Flying geese, pinwheels, what to do? Your video popped up and at once! Friendship stars! Yes❤ You have a lovely voice . A gentle energy, enjoyment, smiling expression and kindness flowing in all directions. I had seen your exquisite wonky triangle quilt ages ago and have carried it's charm in my head, waiting for the day I could see myself tackling so many small blocks. I'm old. I'd hate to start and leave before I'd completed such a gorgeous endeavour😅 Thank you, seriously, my day is made, you wonderful woman.
Timely and THANK YOU!!! For some odd reason I always get turned inside out when trying to square up (and I learned to quilt in 1999 but don’t do it consistently…that’s probably why 😂). Love your tutorials 🥰🥰
A little tip… I put a small 3M hook in the middle of my smaller square 4/5 inch rulers (also my 6x1 and 12x1 inch rulers too actually)… it gives me a stable better hold on them and fingers are up high 🤗🤗🤗 (I also use a template grip sticker on the bottom as well so with both the hook on top and the grip on the bottom, I get way less movement and more control!) I’m loving your videos! 🫶🫶🫶 Your enthusiasm is contagious, you’re so cute!
I love your positive attitude. This is such a great idea with the triangles. I see that your boarders are different sizes. What are your measurements? I also have a form a dyslexia and struggle. You have given me several tips. I am so happy that I found your channel.
All of the measurements vary depending on how it LOOKS to me. Plus, I aim to make the quilts the size that my "donation" lady prefers. (40 x 50-58) So, I just decide on border size by what looks good and by what size I'm aiming for.
I keep all HST that I can do with leftover from building a block. I do some with other piece left over like the little triangle from joint in binding. I square them to the nearest 1/4 inch and sort them by size. I’m doing this since years and I have a bunch of them now from 1 inch to 4 inches. Eventually I will do a project with them, I have already wrote down idea of design.
Usually 40 x 50-58. That is the size that is preferred by the places I donate to. Though they will accept them smaller and even bigger. That is just what they prefer. So usually I'm in the range of about 40 x 54ish.
Great video as always! I’ve been making Project Linus quilts and this gives me some new ideas. What size are the quilts you did? They look to be about the same size.
A 5 inch square will yield 2 - 4.5” unfinished hst (4 inch finished). Draw a diagonal line corner to corner, sew 1/4 in on each side, cut on diagonal line, then trim. the formula is finished sized plus 7/8”, but you have to be exact on your cutting and quarter inch, so easiest to take finished size and add an inch then trim down. You could do the easy eight method with a layer cake to get 8 4 in finished (4.5 in unfinished) hst. Look up 8 at a time HST and there are lots of videos and instructions on how to do it. Good luck!
When you do a pinwheel block, how do you get a flat center? Mine are always a pokey mess. I’m talking about getting all those points together at the center in case anybody’s new!
Marti Mitchell has a short called the "Four Patch Swirl" and there are people who swear by that. (You can google it and see.) I've tried to make it happen and I just don't think it matters enough to take the time. Also, if you don't want to make sure the thread breaks so that it can twist on back - it is also less bulky to just press the seam open. (I have been known to do that.) Generally though - I just press as shown in my video - because speed and a longarm are important to me and it is flat enough. Batting is the great equalizer. And I'm careful when I quilt to go right through those centers and nail them down.
Oh yes I have difficulty trimming with the smallest rulers. Even cutting a 1 1/2' square out of scraps is easier for me with say a 4 1/2" ruler. It worries me if my fingers are too close to the blade especially now arthritis is showing its face in my hands.
I am new to quilting - what is the measuring tool called that was clear and you were cutting strips? It looked amazing. thank you - Also I wanted to add - what a special talent you have to gift children with a comfort quilt.

The place I donate to prefers 40 x 50-58. I usually end up around 54 or 55. I just make quilts as big as the places I am donating to prefers. This is a great size!

Hello my you do tutorial of Shape cut. I have seen other but it just don't click on my head. I enjoy your video because for me I understand them better. Sorry that's just me. Thank you
It means - "bonus" as in, you are making another project and because of how you sew that project you get bonus half square triangles that you don't need to make that first project. If you watch this video you will see. th-cam.com/video/XQNFEyBI-2c/w-d-xo.html

Love them all, my favorite is the one where the triangle blocks radiate from the center 4 patch with the light borders.
That one was so simple and beautiful.
trimming a few at a time - good idea
I love half square triangles! 100 years ago I was afraid of them. I'm not even sure why.
Isn't that often the case. We are afraid of things and then - not at all!
Great tips! This is a great watch. Thank you!
love them all.
I love the ocean fabric 😍💙💚
A great inspiration. Thank you.
You are so welcome!
WOW, I watch a lot of quilting videos, I mean A LOT. I am VERY impressed with this wonderful video. Lots of cute, easy stuff here!
I always love the pinwheel quilt squares. I'm OCD and for my brain it works best.

Thanks again for taking the mystery out of quilt design, my most difficult part whenever I can’t find the right quilt pattern.

Great video as always! I’ve been making Project Linus quilts and this gives me some new ideas. What size are the quilts you did? They look to be about the same size.
My lady likes them to be anywhere from 40 x 50-58. She will take them smaller too. But I try to stay around that size.
To make a 4.5" sq HST what do you cut your sqaures at? Could you use two layer cakes and make four and trip them to size?
It sounds good to me, but I haven't used that method for ever - so I don't dare advice you. Try it and see? Probably no trimming needed.
Lovely. I've looked but can't find your dimensions for the Quilty Hug quilts. Is there a specific size?
