If you double up the height of the initial size then when you cut the diagonal you have 2 pouches at a time. I don't know if I explained myself well. Great project.
My mother is heading into Assisted Living, likely after Christmas. She requested (10min before I started watching this video!!!) a pouch big enough for her iPad. I need to figure out how to add handles but that’s not too hard once the first one is made. Thanks for the tutorial. I like that you don’t give cutting measurements out of respect to the designer :)
I’d recommend the large or xl for the iPad! Adding handle should be easy - I’d just do it coming out of the side! Make the handle, and when you turn the bag inside out to add binding, before you add the binding, I’d just attach a little strap by tucking it in between the two exterior pieces in the top-ish area!
Cute pouch. You can also stitch over the zipper ends to prevent accidentally pulling off the zipper head while turning inside out. Also, running a stitch all around before attaching the binding will squish down the foam and binding will go on without the bulk. Great tutorial! Off to get the pattern
I am so happy that your instructions always show challenges and how to overcome them. Such as putting zipper pull on. Helps me realize I am not alone. Excellent job ❤ Thank you.
The 'discard' portion could defintely be 1/2 a coin purse, at least. :) Or made into a short cup/tall bowl for change, paperclips, binding clips, and more! Lots of options alone or by combining it with the discards from the other bags to make another unique gift!
I bought this pattern last year. I hope to make gifts of this pouch this year. Thanks for all the tips. I will need to watched this again and then as I go along. Thanks, Becky
You are AMAZING!! I love how you are so reality-based. Are your inside edges not perfect? Don't worry about it. The seam isn't amazingly straight by the zipper? It's fine. The corners aren't super crisp? Go with it. I am not a quilter but I feel like I can do this pattern with your help. THANK YOU! I appreciate the camera work. What I appreciate most of all is that you shared the whole process for getting the head back on the zipper, all of it, letting us know that if it takes an experienced person a minute to get it back together it is perfectly reasonable to take more than a minute to get the thing back together. Really, thank you!
I just picked up this pattern, I like your idea of crediting the creator of this pattern for their hard work and creative skill. This looks so fun!!! Making one from an art print rectangle of linen that deserves to be highlighted and used every day. It's a gorgeous deep turquoise and indigo.
I purchased the pattern and have made two for my grandkids. After I quilted them I used my brand new embroidery machine and put their names on them. I am a visual learner too so I really appreciated your video walking me thru it. I was able to pause and rewind when necessary. Now I am going to make me one. Thanks again. It was fun to make.
Becca, thank you for this video - I bought this pattern last month and you have walked me through the creating in a smart, friendly way. I recently discovered my little silver seam guide - the bar that fits into my Juki’s walking foot to guide me along so I don’t have to mark allllll those lines anymore, I just place it at the width I want from the last line I made. It fits in both sides of the walking foot so you can work from either side. I also plan to make these two-at-a-time and quilt a much taller piece so it creates an angled segment on each side of the cut, no waste. You are very LISTEN-ABLE - and I will be exploring your other videos. Happy Crafting! 🤗🧵💕
Hey, thanks a bunch for your awesome feedback! It's fantastic to hear that you're enjoying the content and discovering new tools and techniques. Can't wait to see what you create next!
I discovered this by accident: When I put on my zipper, I use 1/4 double back sticky tape. I covered all the zipper binding with the tape. So my overhang of zipper tape is sticky and when putting on the zipper pull, the sticky helps to make that grab to zip the zipper. Works for me!😊
I'm so glad I found your channel. I've watched 2 of your videos, this 1 and the seatbelt harness video, but I already love your style. You're well spoken, explain things clearly and somewhat concisely and you're not cutesy. I'm an alto, speaking & singing, so I appreciate a nice medium pitched voice. Some TH-camr's voices drive me up the wall with a high pitch and a nasally twang. Your speaking pace is perfect. Not too slow or too fast. I appreciate how you pick up the video pace on the parts that would be boring if we had to watch the whole step. So, that's why I like you. I really like your channel because of your creativity! I'll be back and I'll look into becoming a member. There are very few TH-camrs I would want to support, but you just became 1 of them. Thanks so much for sharing your creativity and know-how. I look forward to making . . . Oh . . . about 1 million Hemingway pouches. Now, I just need to find my machine so I can unpack it and get it set up to use.
I love this project it is beautiful. I usually start in the middle of the fabric when quilting and work my way outward to make sure it comes out smooth.
It helps to find something new- I look through my patterns and kits and can usually find something that excites me. It doesn’t happen very often that I don’t feel like sewing!
Loved the demo! Thank you! I bought the pattern and just finished my first one! I did the smallest one- which was a bit challenging due to size. I am going to try a larger one soon! My daughter loves it though- her glasses are nicely tucked away now. Thank you for this tutorial. I am also a visual learner AND teaching myself to sew.. appreciate this greatly!
Amazing verbal instructions and beautiful acknowledgment of the pattern designer! I have purchased the pattern and made the small and large one so far, and LOVE IT!!! THANK YOU FOR YOUR HEART❤🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦 😊
You are so welcome! Just so you know, this Wednesday, I have another tutorial for another center Street bag pattern. It’s the Holland pouch, and it’s super easy to make! Hope you come back and watch that one too!
I love to make zipper bags, and this pattern is the next one I want to try. Your tutorial is very helpful. I'm a visual learner, so I am thankful for TH-cam.
I loved your tutorial. I had seen a video about using dish drying mats for bags, I thought maybe this would be perfect for the Hemmingway Pouch. I got a tropical fish drying mat at Hobby Lobby for $3, grabbed some turtle and fish fabric from my stash, and a scrap of trim/binding. I followed your video and had the pouch in less than 30 minutes, I added a handle to the open side with the zipper using 12" x 2" of the cutoff piece, edged in left over binding. This was a great tutorial! Thanks for sharing.
I enjoyed your tutorial including all of the various details & specifics that you share while working. From my prospective, I find your comments valuable for the viewer. Thank you.😊
I have made a couple of these for an iPad and for a laptop and love them! For my laptop, I added a carrying strap and used the cutoff to add a pocket on the outside. The only thing I wish I had done was to add a zipper to the pocket. I will on my next one. Thanks Becca for the awesome tutorial because I am very visual too. ❤️
What a great pattern, I now need to go get my copy. I know a couple of people who could use one of these... & I'm one of them! Thank you for the detailed walkthrough, it gives me the confidence to try it out!
The part you discard 25:51 could be saved to make little needlebooks or key fobs. You asked for ideas. For some reason when you asked that, it stayed in my mind. I just had to tell you. You make such interesting things. Thanks for posting. :)
Thank you for this tutorial. Like you I am a visual learner so this is a perfect support resource for the written instructions. I'm making one now, if I am successful (and I have a sneaking suspicion I will because of your video) I'll be making some more!!
Watched both your and Ian’s tutorials on the Hemingway pouch. Awesome! He suggested using the cut off triangle to make a pencil pouch which is what I did. Two bags, very little waste, win-win! Thanks to you both for the tutorials. 😊
Becca, like you, I’m a visual learner. I found your instructions are very clear and easy to understand. Thanks for sharing and suggesting how to obtain the pattern.
Thank you so much fir your video. I had previously purchased the pattern and was sitting here reading it a n d parts had me confused. I thought there has to be a video..and here you were! Now to get busy and make a few presents!!!
Use extra scrap piece to make a small zipper pouch. Use the second half of the zipper for the original large pouch and make the zipper pouch with the same steps you use to make the big pouch. I had a trim off half an inch from the little point, but it turned out really well and would be good for a pencils or even a glasses case. The zipper pouch works for the large original or extra large original, but not the small and medium size scrapped.
Super great tutorial ,your instructions really helped me. Love the Hemingway pouch pattern. Thank you for linking the company so could purchase the pattern. Merry Christmas. Making pouches for Christmas gifts
After watching this video, I purchased the pattern and made so many of these. Passed them out to my team as gifts. I was looking for something easy to make and this was right on time.
Just came here to see Dorothy from the Thumbnail. Glad that I found a nice host, creative tutorial and probably a wonderful, sewing-themed and new to me TH-cam Channel. You did a wonderful Job, Dorothy and I am sending my best wishes to you and your Mum from Germany. Regards, Stephanie
Wow love this pouch even though I don’t enjoy using zippers. Your instructions are clear and easy to follow. Sometimes I want to put down my current project and make your newest item. So much fun to watch.
❤❤❤❤❤THANKS!!! THIS POUCH will be my 2024 Christmas present for almost everyone on my list. Plus me!! Hopefully a matching tablet size plus small size for sunglasses. If I start now… 😉 GREAT visual directions. Love the close ups. Ordering my pattern today. Thank you so much for sharing this project. I’m a newbie subscriber now. By the way, when I sew presents for men I use thrifted men’s shirts for a more manly look. If you have men in your life, ask them to give you their shirts when ready to get rid of them. That way they get a present with colors/designs they like. Again, thank you, thank you, thank you!! I should be an expert when finished with all of these. 😊😊😊
I've been looking for gift ideas and when I saw this I thought it was perfect. I went to the link you listed and bought the pattern before I watched your video on making it and kept my fingers crossed that I could make one pretty fast. Thanks Becca. I've been away from your site for awhile and glad I caught you again.
Honestly, watch the video and pause it as you go along! Just use the pattern to reference any measurements!! It’s a super simple make…I made 4 of them yesterday evening!
I bought the pattern and made it the same day as I watched you video. Love it. I used the cut off piece and made a smaller one to maybe pop your I pad charger etc in. I also added D rings and made a wrist fob. Wish I could add pics to show you
I have a Facebook group you can post those pics to! Or, if you’d like - email them to me! (Becca@sewbecca.com). Fb group link is in the video description!
Thanks for the informative tutorial! I purchased the pattern (love pdf’s….no haunting the mailbox waiting for paper pattern). I watched your video first, then read the pattern and I’m ready to start making three for gifts. Perfect watching tutorial first retaining those words in your brain camera and then follow paper pattern to completion. Like reading the book before watching the movie. Thanks for perfect Christmas gifts for great grandkids new tablets! Happy Holidays! Blessings, Dawn
Thank you for the tutorial. I’ve been in a bit of a crafting slump so started off with some easy zipper pouches to get my mojo back. I have this pattern and a few of her other ones so excited to try this!

You did! A few others suggested the same thing, I'm going to try it!
That is an awesome idea
Love this idea ❤
❤❤❤thanks! I don’t even have my pattern yet, but I think I get what you’re saying. Thanks for the great tip!!😊
@@sewbecca I'd love to see you do this 💗
I didn't want to throw out the small scrap triangle so I used it to make a mini pouch!
😍 thanks for an awesome walkthrough.
I love how you honor the patternmaker. Thank you. Your instructions are spot on. I am truly inspired.
I absolutely bought this pattern, and the Holland Pouch, because your videos made so much sense of the projects. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this. I’m a visual learner and this has really helped me 😊
My mother is heading into Assisted Living, likely after Christmas. She requested (10min before I started watching this video!!!) a pouch big enough for her iPad. @@sewbecca That’s what I was thinking! Thank you :)
I agree. I was thinking strap added to carry it would be perfect.
Bind the extra piece & sew to front as a pocket. For phone, pens, etc. 😊
oooh, I LOVE that idea!!!
Came here to say exactly this 😊
Cute pouch. You can also stitch over the zipper ends to prevent accidentally pulling off the zipper head while turning inside out.
Also, running a stitch all around before attaching the binding will squish down the foam and binding will go on without the bulk.
Great tutorial!
Off to get the pattern
Thanks for those extra tips - those would definitely make this EVEN easier!
I am so happy that your instructions always show challenges and how to overcome them. Such as putting zipper pull on. Helps me realize I am not alone. Excellent job ❤ Thank you.
Thanks for this tutorial! If anything, this project taught me the importance of using a good quality zipper!
The 'discard' portion could defintely be 1/2 a coin purse, at least. :) Or made into a short cup/tall bowl for change, paperclips, binding clips, and more! Lots of options alone or by combining it with the discards from the other bags to make another unique gift!
OOh, I like the idea of combining several discards into a single super scrappy bag!
💥Wowser!!! AWESOME Tutorial Girl! You hit this one out of the park! WAY TO GO💥
That means a LOT coming from you, Ms. Tracy! Thank you, my friend!
Fabulous. Thankyou.....lm from the south west of Western Australia...Australia....❤
I just bought this pattern this morning. Glad I stumbled onto this tutorial.

Oh my happiness. I bought this pattern and love that I have another video to watch for making these!
Looks like happiness is just a pattern away! I'm glad you're loving it and I hope the video helps you create something amazing. Enjoy!
I bought this pattern last week and have made a few .. easy peasy!
Great demonstration! And cute beginning/ending. 🤣
Thank you! 😁
The piece trimmed from the top would make a good cup cozy. Like for a Starbuck’s coffee cup.
You could use the extra quilted piece to make quilted hearts for ornaments or for I Found A Quilted Heart. Cut with pinking shears. It’s really cute.
Oh, cute idea
I love that idea. I have found one of those hearts but never made and placed one. I just might do that!
Thank you so much for this visual instruction I am also very visual and I learn by watching, thank you again sounds like a great project to make. 1:50
I love your videos!! you explain perfectly...Thank you Thank you

With the offcut corner you can make a small notions pouch size, just bind it on the outside instead of the inside
Watched both your and Ian’s tutorials on the Hemingway pouch. Awesome! He suggested using the cut off triangle to make a pencil pouch which is what I did. Two bags, very little waste, win-win! Thanks to you both for the tutorials. 😊

You're very welcome!
Im definitely buying the pattern , thank you for the Instructions
You’re welcome 😊
I just purchased this pattern! The pattern is very well-written but I am a visual learner so your video will be a big help to me. Thank you so much!

Enjoy the pattern! Spoiler alert, I bought ANOTHER pouch pattern from Center Street Quilts that I want to try!
Cute bag!!!
I saw this last week and bought the pattern and have now made two. I love them! I needed a laptop case so made one a little bigger.
Thank you for the tutorial. I’ve been in a bit of a crafting slump so started off with some easy zipper pouches to get my mojo back. I have this pattern and a few of her other ones so excited to try this!
