I've made lots of covers and what I find is really easy to determine the dimensions, is to wrap the tape measure completely around and take that measurement and divide it in half. It takes into account the height of the object. I then add an additional amount to allow for ease. Depending on how loose I want the fit and whether the lining may catch on items being pulled out, I typically add anywhere from 1/2" to 1" on each side which typically results in adding 2" to the circumference of both the vertical and horizontal measurements. I hope this makes sense.
I’ve got the exact same cover for my iPad so I’m off to make one of these for the tablet. This is exactly what I wanted and your showing us how to adjust the size is sooo helpful! I absolutely LOVE your videos 💖👏👏💖
Christine, is that the Dollar Tree board behind you? Could you do a tutorial on it? I've been wanting one but not sure on how to assemble it. If it's not from DT, where did you get it? Love all your videos. Thanks.
Thank you, Christine, for yet another excellent tutorial. You have started the year by being very productive and that encourages me to be the same. This is definately becoming a member of the 'to do' list. Have a great week.🎉❤
Christine, you always present great videos that are easy for us to follow. Thank you as always for doing all the hard work so we. An get on with the good bits😊. You are such a joy to watch with great instructions so we. And sew along with you and not miss any important things. Thank you so very much❤
Thank you for another wonderful tutorial! I will have to watch this again as there is so much informative content! Loved learning about drafting a pattern and how to make these fun bags!
Excellent tutorial Christine. Depending on the size and fabric, these could be used as project bags, crafting tools, toys, travelling etc. I think they'll be a good seller because of the quirky way the zip closes 🤩
thank you so much for the tutorial and for the measuring explanation it was really helpful , your tutorial are really clear and you explain things so clearly i really enjoy watching your videos thank you for all your hard work
Very clever construction and beautiful finishing techniques! I never would have thought to reinforce the corners, but that makes sense. Overall, you do a lot of reinforcing, so your products are made to last! 👏
Hi there, new subscriber here, I have watched many of your videos and I think you are amazing and very informative. I was just wondering if with this pattern would the same rule apply if I was creating a custom size pouch with the zipper up the top.(in regards to measurements) Sorry I’m a semi newbie. Love your work and have a great day.
Welcome to the channel Belinda. In sewing you can create new rules, and break the old ones. Half the fun is in experimenting. I'd give it a go with the custom zip at the top😀
Great tutorial and very clear. I do feel like if you’re going to use it for something like an iPad that using soft and stable would make more sense. The foam stabilizer would give it cushion for an electronic device. I know doing a lining like that, keeps you from having to do anything with your raw edges, but honestly, putting a little binding on the raw edges is not that hard, nor that time-consuming I think it would be better than the lining.
Thanks for this. I have been looking for a lined tablet shoulder bag for a while now. This one will be perfect with an embroidered front. The diagonal zip adds some interest.
I probably won't make more of these unless I sell them, but you should be able to sew it up the same way. I've used fusible fleece in this lined version of the video. The foam should be the same😁
Brilliant! So much better than all that bulky seam binding that I've seen in other videos! Must try making these very soon. One trick I use for putting the zipper pull back on a dress zipper is to trim a few teeth off the right hand side. It seems to make it a bit easier.
Thank you for this tutorial, I'm gonna make two today. Also, question about the double sided tape, does it not make your needle sticky? Thank you...💜🥰😘
Jean, if you get the correct type of tape you will be fine. I did a comparison video a while back with links to the ones that work the best in the description😁 th-cam.com/video/z0cSL7vu_H0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=RgVXZx8SpMBvD6uc
Donna, you need to use a washaway DST. Craft or permanent tapes will wreak havoc with your bobbin case and needle. Here's a test I did on a few brands. th-cam.com/video/z0cSL7vu_H0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iYiYkyXXUntFYESr
You can always buy extra size 3 zipper pulls that way you can use both sides of the no 3 zips as zips and it would be more cost effective. Love these by the way. Xx
I always love your tutorials. Whenever I see bag making I wonder why people don’t leave the section of the bottom lining open, it’s so much easier than the side opening for turning. Thank you.
LOVE these!!! I attempted a custom small bag for my friend’s daughter’s prom to match her dress a couple years ago. Had to totally give up on the lining because I couldn’t figure out how it worked! Just watching what you did solved what I couldn’t work out. 🤓🤓🤓 I learn so much from you!!! Thanks again. ❤❤❤❤
Just minds think alike! I made my lining the exact same way! Glad I did them right. Churned more out today. I love your style of chain sewing. It helps so much.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😊
I have an idea to use plastic grocery bags as liners, and stabalizers for sewn grocery bags. I think they would work to make your own zippered cooler bags.
I can’t wait to make a couple of these! You are the only other person that says “you got to hold your tongue just right”, lol!! My mom used to say you’re not holding your mouth right, lol! I guess people don’t say that much any more, because I’ve said it a couple of times and people usually look at me like I have three heads.
Great audio with this video. Didn't know you could use a dress if only option available but definitely far more difficult. Thanks for a great tutorial 😀
Thankyou Christine great video i thought that was how the lining was doe i would nave done it the same way thanks for taking the time to show us have a nice day Have joined your facebook group lots of lovely sewing there
I had not thought of using one side of the zipper and having the continuous slide with the end of the one side joining and being hidden in the seam. Thanks. I need a new iPad case. Kathleen
Those look great! I actually sewed my lining to the back the same time I quilted. I also tried an outer binding. I really like that. I'll post it on your fb page
If you enjoyed this video & feel like giving something back to the channel, you can do that here..... www.buymeacoffee.com/stitchthisr

It makes perfect sense. Thank you😁
Wow, I think my pouch will not be lined. You’ve done a wonderful job instructing to cut and construct. Many thanks!
You can do it Sandi 😀
I’ve got the exact same cover for my iPad so I’m off to make one of these for the tablet. This is exactly what I wanted and your showing us how to adjust the size is sooo helpful! I absolutely LOVE your videos 💖👏👏💖
Thanks so much PJ😊
Thank you for such a comprehensive tutorial. ❤
You're very welcome Sally😁
Thank you for making this video! I'm off now to sew.... ❤❤❤
That's wonderful. I hope you enjoyed making them😊
Thank you ❤ Just love your channel!!!
You are so welcome Sølvi. Thank you😁
Another great video! Thank you for sharing. Did you use upholstery fabric or just cotton fabric for your bags? Beautiful fabric btw.
I use both. These were made with cotton fabric, but I'll be doing some in upholstery fabric too😁
Christine, is that the Dollar Tree board behind you? Could you do a tutorial on it? I've been wanting one but not sure on how to assemble it. If it's not from DT, where did you get it? Love all your videos. Thanks.
Do you mean the pegboard at the back? It's from Ikea. They have tutorials showing how to put it together😀
Thank you, Christine, for yet another excellent tutorial. You have started the year by being very productive and that encourages me to be the same. This is definately becoming a member of the 'to do' list. Have a great week.🎉❤
Thanks Jess. You're going to be very busy😁
I know I’m late to this game, but is there a reason you don’t quilt the lining to the other fabric and batt?
You're never to late to the game Cat. I prefer to line my bags without bindings. If I quilt all the layers, I'd have raw edges, or have to bind it😀
I knew there was a way to make these without raw seams inside or without binding the edges! Thanks for figuring it out and sharing!
You're welcome Hope. Thank you😁
I like this version also, but I want a pocket inside or on the back.
Thank you, guess I didn’t pay enough attention in the beginning. Love the idea of no binding.
You can use French seams. Just make the measurements about a 1/4” larger.

Thank you for another wonderful tutorial! I will have to watch this again as there is so much informative content! Loved learning about drafting a pattern and how to make these fun bags!
Thanks Kim. I wasn't sure if it would be too much information😁
Excellent tutorial Christine. Depending on the size and fabric, these could be used as project bags, crafting tools, toys, travelling etc. I think they'll be a good seller because of the quirky way the zip closes 🤩
Thanks Lesley. I think the zip will be very appealing to customers too 😀
I from the UK,I have just started making bags ,After I makeone off your bags can I sell it
That's wonderful Carol🙂
Another great tutorial, such clear instructions as always!
Thank you Paula 😊
thank you so much for the tutorial and for the measuring explanation it was really helpful , your tutorial are really clear and you explain things so clearly i really enjoy watching your videos thank you for all your hard work
You're very welcome Gilly. Thank you so much ☺️
Very clever construction and beautiful finishing techniques! I never would have thought to reinforce the corners, but that makes sense. Overall, you do a lot of reinforcing, so your products are made to last! 👏
Thanks Barbara. Sometimes I think I reinforce things too much, but I'd be devastated if something came back to me😁
She is the best
Thanks Prescilla😁
Another great design. Thank you for sharing. Can’t wait to try this one. Have a wonderful day!
Thank you! You too Joann 😀
Lovely instructions as always Christina. You are truly one of my favorites❤ Thank you🇨🇦🇨🇦
Thanks so much Shelley😊

Your the best 👌
Thank you Eva😁
It’s very easy to learn from you because you’re very precise with your skills….thank you!❤
Thanks you Rechelle😀

FANTASTIC. Thankyou .n l think your an Aussie which helps. ❤
Thank you Fran😀
Yaay, a pouch for my iPad ❤👍❗️sweeeeet. Christine, where did you get the green iPad case? I love it.
I purchased that from Ebay a couple of years ago Elayne😀
Thanks for this. I have been looking for a lined tablet shoulder bag for a while now. This one will be perfect with an embroidered front. The diagonal zip adds some interest.
The embroidery is a great idea Sallie😀
Loved your take on this bag. Is it possible to show us the lined pouch but adding foam or fusible fleece to help protect iPad?
I probably won't make more of these unless I sell them, but you should be able to sew it up the same way. I've used fusible fleece in this lined version of the video. The foam should be the same😁

Thanks for the tip Nicola. 😁
Great tutorial. I think if I make these I will use bindings inside. That lining looks like too much work for me.
haha, that's how I feel about bindings Palma😀
Can you make one of these larger bags with a 2"wide bottom of the bag to allow for th knitting projects??
You sure could Terry. Cut the fabric 1" longer to accommodate the boxed corners😊
Love them Christine. I have be thinking about how to do the lining. You've just shown me..Great job. 😊
Thanks Janet. I really like them with the lining 😀
Thank you for this tutorial, I'm gonna make two today. Also, question about the double sided tape, does it not make your needle sticky? Thank you...💜🥰😘

@@ChristinesHomeAffairs, thank you so much sweet girl. I just finished 2 pouches....you are a blessing...xoxo
I use the dinner fork hack to attach zipper pulls. It is so much easier, at least for me.
Yes, that works too Magna. Thanks for sharing😁
How do you keep gunk out of your needle from using the DST?
Donna, you need to use a washaway DST. Craft or permanent tapes will wreak havoc with your bobbin case and needle. Here's a test I did on a few brands. th-cam.com/video/z0cSL7vu_H0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=iYiYkyXXUntFYESr
Thanks
You're welcome Erica 😊
Love this lined pouch. Thanks for sharing.
You're welcome Cynthia. I really enjoyed this one too 😀
❤ Another great tutorial. Thanks!
Thanks Helen 😀
Thank you so much for all your hard work so blessed for people like you that have love to teach others God bless you 🤗
So nice of you Amalia. Thank you 😊
You can always buy extra size 3 zipper pulls that way you can use both sides of the no 3 zips as zips and it would be more cost effective. Love these by the way. Xx
You certainly can Vikki. I usually purchase a few hundred at at time for my shop products😁
@@ChristinesHomeAffairs so if I do use a # 3 zipper, I could make two bags as long as I have extra zipper heads? Thanks for a great tutorial.
@@1994henny yes, that's right 😀
Brilliant! I always appreciate your clear instructions.
Many thanks Diane 😊
How do you cut out for one bag ,instead of two
It would be the same. You still need height, width and an angle 😀
Thank you for the tutorial.
You are welcome Eleste😁
I love it! Thank you!
Thanks Georgy😁
This is a great tutorial. Thank you for your clear instructions, Much easier than the type made with binding
Well done tutorial!
Thanks Charmaine😀
Thank you!
It was a pleasure. Thank you😀
Thank you for a wonderful tutorial 😊
Smart ❤
Thanks Maria😁
I always love your tutorials. Whenever I see bag making I wonder why people don’t leave the section of the bottom lining open, it’s so much easier than the side opening for turning. Thank you.
Yes, the bottom is always easier, but the side gives a neater finish. I like to keep things simple😊
That is awesome Emila. Shame I didn't do this year's ago 🤪
Just minds think alike! I made my lining the exact same way! Glad I did them right. Churned more out today. I love your style of chain sewing. It helps so much.⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️😊
I saw the photos. They look great Debbie 😀
Awesome, Thanks. Mine turned out rather good I think. Thanks for making it so easy with excellent explaining🌻
I'm so glad they worked out Ladonna😁
Thankyou for sharing the struggle with continuous zips ! Most makers just edit it out!
You are so welcome! I like to share mistakes and problems whenever I can. 😀
I have an idea to use plastic grocery bags as liners, and stabalizers for sewn grocery bags. I think they would work to make your own zippered cooler bags.
That sounds like a fun idea Patricia😁

haha, I have the same reaction from people Cindy. Must be a generational thing😁
Loved that tutorial. I really use my tongue with those zips 😂😂😂. Thanks Christine x
Haha, those little zips are a pain 🤪
Great audio with this video. Didn't know you could use a dress if only option available but definitely far more difficult.
Thanks for a great tutorial 😀
You're very welcome Julia. Thank you😁
Love this video. I’m going to make one to take on vacation. I’m making it a little more roomy, so I can put my charging cord in the bag.

I had not thought of using one side of the zipper and having the continuous slide with the end of the one side joining and being hidden in the seam. Thanks. I need a new iPad case. Kathleen

OH! OKAY CHRISTINE SWEETIE! I NOTICED YOU DIDN'T ADD NO BINDING AROUND THE ZIPPER. NICE!
Thanks Dottie. I do try not to use bindings too often😀
