Intermittent fasting has been around for thousands of years in multiple cultures including that of Buddhism and Muslim people, usually tied to religious practices and holidays! It's only recently been known as 'intermittent fasting' after being adopted by weight loss/health/fitness communities, but it's been around for a very long time.

I would like to add that don't start fast for 16 hrs in the first place start from 10-11 hrs of fasting. This will help your body to adapt and then you can gradually increase the fasting window.

I no longer do intermittent fasting but it really helped me during a period where my hunger cues were out of control. I was trying to listen to my body but I knew I was eating way too much for my activity level at the time. I softly eased my way into intermittent fasting by doing a 10:14 window for a week, then 14:10 another week, and then 16:8 for a few months.
I eventually eased off it and now eat whenever I'm hungry. I still normally don't eat super early because I'm not hungry, but if i start to feel hungry around 10 or 11, I'll eat a light snack (mainly because I'm at work and can't eat a full meal yet). If I don't feel hungry until 12.30 or 1, then that's alright too.

a few generations ago in india (perhaps my grandparents' grandparents' gen), they used to eat two full meals in the day without any snacks but had a lot of tea in the day. with time somehow that got translated to 3 meals a day along with snacks in the evening along with tea/coffee (this is what most indian families follow today). so when i told my family the concept of imf a few years back they were completely supportive because they assumed I'm trying to follow the path of my ancestors XD

This works for me. I was motivated by my science teacher's words: 'If you haven't eaten in a while, your body uses up all the stored fat in order to give you energy" which means, you would be losing fat!! Also, this is completely unrelated, but for anyone trying a workout on youtube, NEVER watch it before starting and DONT think too much about it before starting. This, from my own personal experience, can cause a loss of motivation.

Whoa isnt the eating window really short though? Maybe you should start 14: 10 or 16:8. Giving yourself 4 hours to eat is really restrictive. Instead of cutting down to just one meal which may not satisfy your mind eating two full meals will and you are more likely to stay consistent and continue IF. Please dont look for quick results. That makes staying consistent harder when you dont see results quickly. You didnt gain the weight you have in a week or month but slowly over time, years maybe so similarly it will take time to lose weight. And like zoe said IF isn't equal to losing weight. But it helps in your weight loss journey

    • @peachyjumpy
      @peachyjumpy 3 ปีที่แล้ว

@@aorchiesiddiqui8434 I never eat breakfast, and because of the pandemic I eated in a 5 hour window for 7 months last year. After a couple weeks I wasn't hungry anymore. Lost 5 pounds. Didn't knew anything about IF. New job means I didn't had to eat like that anymore. But this year losing weight and being healthy became my number one priority. I started eating as healthy as I could but there wasn't any weightloss (basically eatin a healthy version of keto). So I recall my accidental IF from last year and think that I could do it again to see if it helps me, knowing that I can deal with it. I lost 1 pound last week with OMAD, no side effects, so I think I'm on the right path. **NOTE: I did a research and gradually changed my diet for the last 4 months to actually do this. Watching and reading Dr. Eric Berg, Dr. Sten Ekberg and Dr. Jason Fung really helped me.

I did it for a month in 2020 and it was quite nice. I started eating at 10 am and stopped at 6 pm. My family dines later than that so that was an obstacle for me but the morning was so perfect. I had an extra long break from my classes to eat breakfast. I started eating a lot more after I stopped so I gained some weight but it really helped me realise how many times I snack without even concluding calories. Well rn I don't do IT but I still eat two meals and a concious snack and it feels kinda same? For me. I was able to lose some weight with this method. Anyway thanks for reading this far. I just wanted to share my experience

what about the “yo-yo effect” or when u gain more weight than when u started once you break this certain routine? i’ve been wanting to try intermittent fasting but this is my biggest worry once i stop doing it

    • @rosewalls8776

honestly, intermittent fasting is really bearable when you're used to it, so you might not even want to stop x

I don't think u would gain much weight even if you do gain some unless you start eating more than required amount of calories

I did intermittent fasting for about 2 years, but had to stop around 6 months ago because of changes in my schedule as a result of exams at school. I have still managed to maintain the results that I obtained through intermittent fasting tho and did not have any yo-yo effect whatsoever. Most people intermittent fast to lose weight. The reason that some of those people experience this effect is because they viewed intermittent fasting as a diet. So ofc once they've reached their desired weight, they feel like they no longer require to be on this "diet" and stop intermittent fasting and begin to eat a lot more of food in general than they would have before beginning their fasting as well as a lot more foods that they would have restricted themselves from eating when on this "diet", such as junk foods. That's usually the reason behind them having the yo-yo effect. I'm sure it varies person to person, but at least for me and the other people I've spoken to who have also done intermittent fasting, so long as you do not significantly increase your consumption of calories and continue to eat and drink healthily you will not have this effect. I hope that made sense. Intermittent fasting genuinely transformed my life and my body so I definitely think you should give it a go! Even if you experience the yo-yo effect, at the end of the day you can always lose that weight again. I think I'd prefer taking that risk and giving it a try anyway

You usually gain a lot of weight when u stop fasting only if you start eating a bunch of junk food, don’t control your portions, binge, etc. other than that people who do this usually manage to keep the weight off that they lost.

I've been doing it since I got to school? I dont even remember. I was never hungry in the morning so my first meal was in school around 10 a. m when we had a longer break. And at home we had dinner around 6 p.m. And lately I found out that's kinda a diet. I've never had any digestive problems so it's working for me

She said “intermittent fasting wasn’t there for long”. Well it has been there always, as Muslims do intermittent fasting for 1 month during their month of Ramadhan where they fast for 16-17 hours and have an eating window of 6 -7 hours. They call it a blessing month and all this is for their religious purpose. So yeah intermittent fasting is a concept that was always there among a community.

I never in my life ate breakfast on school days (except for Sunday's sometimes) and my mom used to call me crazy for doing so. But I never felt hungry in mornings, I just used to feel fresh when I didn't eat anything and more energetic. After eating breakfast I just felt slouchy.

helloo queen! i rewatched this video and something came to mind: what if i did this AND a body builder diet? i’m not sure if you know what it is but it’s just eating a lot of healthy food that cut out a few calories in exchange for protein! it’s also eating small meals very often so you’re never hungry and your blood sugar doesn’t spike. what do you think?

i started doing IF around march 2020 until now and even tho i'm not really consistent with the eating/fasting window (12h/12h to 20-4), i do notice that i rarely get really shaky anymore when i haven't eaten anything for a couple of hours, which i'm suspecting is hypoglycemia.
also another crazy thing that i noticed is my skin getting clearer whenever i do 16+ hours fasting window consistently

Intermittent fasting is making me lose weight without doing exercise. Of course, I eat healthy (at least I try) and don't eat that much anymore (thanks to the fast)... and to hear that I can get toned abs sounds great. I want abs so I'll definitely start working out again.
