Adding on the analysis, did you notice that for the final song of each saga (beside the first one) the recurring theme of "Just a man" appears? Cyclops: My goodbye-> Athena: " Because after all you are just a man" Storm: Ruthlessness-> When Poseidon sinks the ships: "When does a ripple becomes a tidal wave" Circe: There are other ways -> Odysseus: " I am just a man" Presumably, the final song of the Underworld saga is going to be Monster which perfectly close this theme of transformation of Odysseus from a man to a monster foreshadowed by the second song of the musical.
My favorite part is that I’m Done For, you can hear the same notes as in Horse and the Infant, which has been repeatedly used to show Odysseus’ wit and cunning

So I mean technically did DID and DIDNT at the same time yes he was seduced and she was trying to get him to do the unspeakable but he remembered his wife and why he wants to go home so badly it’s bc of HER so he stops circes bc he’s that committed to his Wife that he would never leave her not even being put under a spell bc his wife is his power his drive and how he broke out the spell (sorry for the long explanation)
@@dragonking1097 YA like technically when she said “Cus your all I’ve ever known” they could’ve been friends instead of lovers which is what I think ody meant when he replied to her when she said “Why can’t you just lie and say! (I love you) You do? (But not in the way you want me to)” bc he might have started to love her AS A FRIEND
@@pchkids1859 I read this awesome blurb on how he may have physically been seduced by Circe and Calypso (he did have 3 kids with Circe), but because both were goddesses and he was mortal, he was REQUIRED to listen to them. Plus, he never fell in love with them and any time he was ever given the chance, he immediately headed home. He was always compelled and never WILLINGLY chose to betray Penelope.
@@meredithm1569 Don't think Circe's children are actually in Homer's Odysse. I think, they appear in works of other authors (I like to call them fanfics, even though, they, of course, are from legend so either everything or nothing is fanfic). Anyways, I didn't read about them in the Odyssee. Also, good point, that he never really loved them. I think, I remember Hermes telling Odysseus to consume that Moly-herb, fight Circe and then sleep with her to make sure, they were on the same side. Circe says the same later, but they both don't seem very enthusiastic about it, which, I think, supports your point.
That’s subtle? I’ve loved those moments in the musical since day 1. It shows how truly well-written the whole thing is. Speaking of which and jumping ahead, who’s excited for the Underworld Saga? Monster, from what I’ve been able to find, is so mastery written and BUILT UP TO. I’m just waiting for the whole story to be published so I can enjoy them all in peace, and I got my younger brothers hooked too!
Along with the low piano part which, I suspect, is alluding to going to the underworld (because the note is super low, and nothing is lower than the underworld). Also, the electronic sounds shortly after the piano low note are the same one's Jay has used for many of the underworld saga demo songs
I loved every single thing from the Circe saga, and the subtle and not so subtle links to other songs is just so satisfying and emotional. It’s impossible not to recognize jay’s genius
StormLightMemes broke it all down so perfectly! My heart was breaking when I heard 'Just A Man' start to play, and then I cheered at the "I can't!" and wept at Penelope's motif. This was hands down my favorite, and the most powerful song of the Circe Saga for me. Jay, there was...So. Much. Power. Here. I love your brilliant attention to detail, and crave every new snippet and Saga. Thank you for Epic. You have given me everything I didn't know I needed in my life right now!
I really like that, at the end of Done For, Circe says "everyone's true colors are revealed in acts of lust" and then in There Are Other Ways, she tries to seduce him, and it doesn't work, and THEN she chooses to help him... it took me too long to realize that he had passed a test. Also, I want to know what happened to Circe. She and her nymphs trusted strangers, and "faced a heavy loss," and she said that she had "been in love once before..." I'm reading WAY too much into this, but I like to think that she helped Odysseus both because he reminded her of the way she had been about her lover, and at the same time, was so unlike the way her lover ended up treating her.
I think her lover might have been Poseidon. She seemed eager to help Odysseus when he said Poseidon was after him. In mythology, Circe wasn't a goddess, but a mortal witch. I think Poseidon was her lover once and gave her her powers, then left her.
they faced heavy loss was sort of a Greek mythology come back. i can't remember the story right now but the nymphs do get...used sometimes so that could be what she is talking about. And i think the test was to see if Odysseus was like her lover and she wanted to make sure he wasn't.
@@IgnisInvicta Yeah I figured that's what had happened with the nymphs... with what I know about greek mythology that makes a lot of sense. And I agree about the test, it makes a ton of sense that she wouldn't have trust in men after whatever happened, especially if they'd used her nymphs and maybe her like that
i actually never noticed the first one where Circe took Odysseus under her control but me and my younger cousin DID notice the "Just a Man" and "Penelope" motif. i actually went nuts over it
Stop it, I’m crying! Literally was on the Crowdcast for eight hours, made a few friends, had TWO (kinda) poems written about me, and now we’re all in a discord server together gushing about Epic. This is legit the best musical I have ever come across for so many reasons. Thank you so much Jay for bringing this masterpiece to life.
Okay and I also noticed the very first few notes of Puppeteer are a melody we've heard a few times, but the way the notes are arranged, they line up perfectly with, "we should try to find a way no one ends up dead" which is very fitting for the beginning of this saga since it's right after most of his men have been killed by Poseidon. Very cool!!
"There Are Other Ways" made me think it was going to be another "Say No To This" from Hamilton but no, Odysseus stepped back and was loyal, fought back and oh, it's just so good. He loves his wife so much, even after 12 long years 😭 It's probably my favorite song out of the entire musical!
This is such a brilliant breakdown of There Are Other Ways! Truly my favorite song on this saga even though the rest are brilliant too. I feel like not enough people are talking about the foreshadowing in Puppeteer, though! The very first musical motif we hear in the whole saga is reminiscent of Open Arms-and ultimately it is through “showing one act of kindness” that Circe helps Odysseus and frees his men. Even though Odysseus got such a harsh lesson in ruthlessness in the last saga, here we see that even through all of that, there will still be times and situations where kindness and genuine honesty are a strength.
I really do adore that Circe is more of a foil to Odysseus than immediately appears, because she mentions the fact she trusted once and it cost her and her nymphs quite a bit, so now she takes no chances. She's basically in the same fence sitting position as Odysseus in that she makes ruthless choices to protect her daughters but her heart isn't entirely hardened to the level of just taking it for granted. Which goes from subtext to main text when they duet the line in Done For, and is reinforced when Circe lets one act of kindness pay off. Circe is concerned with becoming the puppeteer in full as much as Odysseus is in becoming a monster.
@@OpMegs Wow I really like your interpretation. One of my favorite parts pf the song is the end part of Circe's high note... it's just so gorgeous. I think reading your take helped me be a bit clear on those last 2 lines: "Maybe one day the world needs a puppeteer no more, or maybe one day the word needs a puppeteer moreeee"... it shows that it is not her choice to become this cold, ruthless, manipulative puppeteer, its her circumstance which made her into that (fun fact: this exact stuff is highlighted in the song Monster where he says "Did she learn to be colder when she got older..."). One day she hopes that she may no longer need to be a puppeteer....although why says next maybe it will need more... I'm not sure
Circe’s saga out: me happy Jorge happy: me happy Hermes being Hermes: me happy You all having such a great talent: me happy All the fandom fangirling and fanboying: we all happy 😆
Honestly, I don't think I'm never going to be normal again either. Like, how am I supposed to be normal when Other Ways is playing in my headphones and there are recurring leitmotivs from earlier in series that I need to notice and listen to. Really sir, you really outdid yourself. Can't wait to hear final products for the Underworld Saga!
"I'm never gonna be a normal person again, and I'm not complaining" yup me too!, I'm at the exact same point of my life, all this episodes made me fall too madly in love for this musical 💙✨ Congratulation you're writting a masterpiece🤌
I love how there is references from other songs all through the saga one of my favourite ones is in ruthlessness when Poseidon says “I’m your darkest moment” which is something Odysseus says to Polyphemus in Remember Them. Basically Jorge you are very bloody clever!
Something else I noticed in the Circe Saga was that it starts with the instrumental of the part in "Full Speed Ahead" when Odysseus says "Polites gear up, you and I'll go ahead." Odysseus is thinking about and missing Polites.
My favorite moment of him winning a battle not by force or wit or strength, but by true love and authentic yearning- this is the moment circe is about to kill him and he changes her mind by so powerfully demonstrating his undying love for penelope!!!! It proves he's not a threat to her nymphs, that all he truly wants is to just go home, and she's like 'okay fine I'll give you a shot I guess' like this whole saga is a MASTERPIECE in musical composition and thematic storytelling I am so weak for motifs and symbolism GIMME IT ALLLLLLL
DUUDe the comment about cosmere fans probably liking this is so true 'cause I'm a cosmere fan and a writer and a musician and I looove finding the connections between books and I looove finding the little musical connections in this, they're so genius I look for that kind of things in film and game osts as welll
One of my favorite parts of EPIC is all the little internal callbacks and references. It tells you so much about the characters and their thoughts without actually having to say them, it's just so brilliant. It also shows just how much time and effort and love Jay has put into these songs, which just makes them even more special.
Jorge is my inspiration. My therapist. My life. Thank you so much Jorge, you’re amazing. Really, thank you so much! I cannot wait for more, and after Epic is finished, I’ll stay your friend/fan, don’t worry!
I loved her lining all the echoes up like that. It's one reason that My Goodbye is one of my all-time favorites. Athena brings up that Ody can't understand her lesson because he "just a man".
Another thing about ‘Just a Man’ it is played so many times throughout the musical whenever Odysseus feels guilty, when someone is trying to guilt him, or it’s Eurylochus being stupid. When Odysseus first sings ‘Just a Man’ he feels guilty over being forced to kill the baby even though he needs to or he’ll die later on. In ‘My Goodbye’ we hear Athena’s backup voices sing a part of ‘Just a Man’. Athena was trying to guilt Odysseus into staying her pupil but it doesn’t work. Then, in ‘There Are Other Ways’ Odysseus sings ‘Just a Man’ because he feels guilty for nearly cheating on Penelope. Finally, in ‘Mutiny’ we hear Eurylochus sing ‘Just a Man’ because he’s saying ‘I’m human and I need to eat so I’m gonna kill a cow’ and that leads to ‘Thunder Bringer’. Which. Oof. Jorge you’re a genius and I praise you for it but I also slightly hate you for it.
Penelope's theme in this song was so incredible for so many reasons. I love the show Hamilton but I have to point some things out that I think Epic has actually scored better here: Odysseus has carried a lot of guilt throughout his quest. He's also humble enough to admit how some of those things were his "darker moments" but something that he ALWAYS centers his focus towards is his wife Penelope and his son Telemachus. During the first bits of the saga Odysseus kills an innocent baby which reminds him of his son that he barely got to meet before he left for war. I honestly think that did really stuck with him and even in other songs when Polites mentions Odysseus having "guilt in his heart" and even Posiden referencing how he could have "JUST killed my son" (I dunno I think that was a pretty particular choice of words)(Anniflamma does a FANTASTIC job showing this in her animatic, it's VERY sad) I definitely think he felt guilty for other things as well but that particularly is something that would stick with you more than other things especially since it's so personal. As for Circes seductive ways paired with Odysseus's "I'm just a man" verse It almost felt like "Say No to This" from Hamilton. And honestly, listening to it, regardless as to if you've read the story or not, you feel very anxious and are WAITING for poor Odysseus to finally break after he reminds you of all that he's been through. But then, like the hero he is, he DOESN'T. That promise to have and hold his wife and to honor her and come home to her is even more beautiful after this. I personally hope and pray we get a reunion song😭💕
There's in fact one reunion song and I'm also very hyped for it, an 'til then I'm also hyped for more callbacks and mentions of Penelope, the reunion song between him an his wife is the last one of the musical, there's only been a very small snippet of it for now, but it's called "Would you fall in love with me again", I'm going to link it to you, it's a compilation of all the songs of the sagas that have come out 'til now and also all of the snippets of future songs shown 'til now but the one for "Would you fall in love with me again" is the very last one, there are time stamps on the description of the video, so you can click it there, I'm going to search for it now, here you go: th-cam.com/video/M0uXhy4iumM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=IlYG5I4ixJ1A0e9j
Something cool about the "forgive me I'm just a man" part is, in the song Just a Man he finishes the line "I'm just a man" with a iirc how it's called, idk music theory, a tonic note? Indicating decisiveness. "I'm just a man. Period." In There Are Other Ways, he doesn't finish on the tonic, as if he hasn't finished the lyric. It's not "forgive me, I'm just a man. Period." It's "I'm just a man... Forgive me." in "fogive me" we do have a tonic, indicating he's now decided what to do. It is the same note currently sung by Circe in "there's no pupper here", implying he's submitted to her (which is what I thought before the full song released) but then we immediately have "I can't." He hasn't decided to submit to Circe, he's decided to reject her. God this was one solid paragraph. Just waited for the saga to release so I have somewhere I can dump my half-assed music theory into lol
I've noticed all of these things too and it's why this is my favorite song from the musical. And I love how Odysseus talks about Penelope afterwards. And how it's his love for his wife that convince her to help him because as Circe said "everyone!s true colors are revealed in acts of lust" but in this case it was the resistance to abandon himself in an act of lust that revealed who Odysseus really is on the inside.
I noticed this too and I love it so much, it reminds me of this tiny moment in the Spartacus show, anyone else seen that? There's a moment in one of the very last episodes where Spartacus is preparing for a battle/push towards the boarder, and he's looking down at the map after all his men have left and he's alone with his thoughts, and his and his wife's leitmotif (which is just a few notes, similar to Penelope's melody) plays quietly and just to be clear, this is season 4, his wife hasn't been a feature of the show since season 1, that story is long since resolved and he rarely mentions her, we haven't heard this bit of music in at least a year, but we immediately know what he's thinking, and sure enough he moves another bit of paper aside and his gaze is cast over his homeland on the map. He doesn't say anything, there's no image on screen of a flashback, nothing like that, but it does such a perfect job of conveying that longing that still permeates every moment he's not focused on something else. It was such an incredibly well crafted and powerful moment IMO and yeah this reminded me of that, this was superb. Anyways yeah I'm glad it gives you a happy that people notice this stuff, Jay. You do it so well and so many of us are into this. Me, my kid, my gf, and my bestie, we're all neurospicy and the layers you're putting into this is giving us happy brain scritches.
I just realised what the lyrics meant when Circe is saying “there’s so much power, so much power, but there’s no puppet heeeeeeeere” She is saying that there’s so much power in their “love” and that their love is so strong and not fake. The part about the puppet is like “This is a mutual love: no-one is controlling anyone.” It’s like, she’s convincing him that she’s not controlling him and that she’s his true love. In the part where he says “I can’t!” It’s like something snapped in Odysseyus’ mind, saying “WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IDIOT!! HOW COULD YOU FORGET THAT YOU’RE MARRIED WHEN YOU LITERALLY KILLED A BABY FOR YOUR WIFE AND CHILD!!! Like when Circe sings “think of your past and your mistakes, etc” She’s saying that when you’re with her, you will be carefree ad in paradise. I’m not sure if that was obvious and I’m just slow, or if I’m a genius.
I cannot tell you how much I adore the fact that almost all the background parts in act 2 so far have been composed of either references to act 1's motifs and lyrics or setup for more motifs and lyrics later (like the "ody is scary now" motif in Different Beast that gets reused in King). we are five songs into act 2 and i am thrashing on the ground like a cat throwing a tantrum yall
It’s awesome to see someone get so into There Are Other Ways! I absolutely LOVE the whole saga but I adore this song! The hand drums absolutely SENT ME the first time I listened because the use of the hand drums seemed to symbolize that Circle had gotten him to go to bang-town with him 😆 and then Odysseus all but verified that with his comments on mistakes and to forgive him. That section of the song has a tugging to it that lures you in just like Circe and ooooooooh I just love it so much! Editing to clarify: I’m in and have been in the camp of Odysseus was not consenting to Circe since my days studying the story in college, and it looks like that direction was taken here since she casts a spell on him. I laughed out of surprise for the hand drums being used due to how they’re played matching perfectly with what they’re trying to represent, and not having expected such obvious imagery in the music
The fact I've seen some people before not making the conection Oddyseus is Singing in Circe's tune, what definitly means she in control specially with the "There is no Puppet Here" that is clearly part of the spell to made him think there is nothing wrong, was surprising and was like "You REALLY didn't relize that!?" Luckily I think most people did notice her spell was working, but some didn't, and I mean, even if you are not good recognizing Tune Cues, Hermes said the Molly Spell would work Once when the Monster is summoned, so after the battle the effect protecting Oddysues was gone, allowing Circe to try and control him. And That's why I love how his Love for Penelope was stronger that Circe's Spell! (Although I bet it wasn't like that in the original story xd)
Recently watched a guy do a reaction to random songs in the series and they were makking some wrong connections and I was like screaming! Bc you HAVE to listen to everything in sequence at least once to truly appreciate this masterpiece in the making!
this is one of the reasons I love Epic. You guys know how to tell a story!!! The Callbacks throughout the song all while keeping a smooth melody and transition is AMAZING!!! I'm so glad she pointed out/appreciated each one of them in this song. I can't wait for the day this is made into a live-action musical. It reminds me of the music in HTTYD and how there are callbacks with the character's themes. Keep going Epic!!!
I Love Epic the Musical! Normally Musicals have their ups and Downs but this one has only perfekt songs. I hope you continue to create such masterpieces and i can't wait for the next one. Have fun and lots of inspiration
I love everything that was said here. This is how i rant to my friends about the songs. I also really like in done for you get the opening of the horse and the infant mixed in with circe's tune as well
Ok, what I noticed is that at the beginning of Done For there is a beat played on an instrument that is EXACTLY THE SAME as the one at the beginning of The Horse and the Infant. Blew my mind. Odysseus is preparing for battle. That's why I was so excited for this saga in particular. Now there is enough content that we can start making call backs and it is really powerful
I don't know how you did it Jay, but you brought out highschooler me again with Epic! I loved reading the Odyssey in highschool so much that I literally bought it at Barnes and Noble 😂
StormlightMemes, you're not alone, that was my favorite song of this saga too!!! 😍For like - all the reasons you mentioned and MORE; love love love love LOVE it!! EPIC Odysseus is best Odysseus, hands down, no contest. "Done For" also, the hype!! 🤩🤩🤩
I love the throwback to the Troy saga with “I’m just a man”(out of the 2 Puppeteer and There Are Other Ways I prefer There Are Other Ways), nice catch on Penelope’s motif I didn’t get that when I picked up on Just A Man(not my favourite Troy song so I don’t listen to it as much, Open Arms is my favourite and I’m planning a Cyclops Saga Remember Them lyrics tattoo)
I can’t put into words how much i ADORE how Odysseus starts casting the spell on HIMSELF, LIKE ISNDKSJFOSNOFNS how she casts a spell on him AND HE JOINS???????? I cried, in fact I CRIED
I noticed some of the details but not all. It makes me very sad that I won't be able to experience this musical in person since I don't live in America, but thank you so much for the music Jorge, it's absolutely amazing and I've listen to these albums so many times!
I think that my favorite thing like this in the Circe Saga is when Odysseus' guitar is side chained when he uses that power the Molly root gave him. From what I understand side chaining is used when any form of magic or divine ability is being displayed (you hear side chaining as well during Calypso's reveal of her being a goddess). So it's literally coded in the music that he is also using a similar style of power!
@@MauM. That's actually what I thought because the underworld is a spooky place and it does make sense for them to release it on Halloween. Kind of a bummer that we’ll have to wait until fall for the next saga if it's true tho.
My theory is that at least one of these songs is for the Sirens and the reason why it is hidden is because all the girls from the project will be singing as the Sirens themselves as a surprise.
@@MauM. Dang, that is a good theory! I think one of the songs will be him confronting Polites after making the desicion to “be the monster” and Polites’ disappointment will ruin him and that;s why he wouldn’t fight Scylla.
I agree. I love Steven Dookie’s voice and if the song was like a half reprise of open arms while Odysseus sings something similar to Poseidon about Ruthlessness being his only option. It would also be super emotionally impactful. And it would explain why he couldn’t bring himself to fight Scylla, seeing as he seemed so resolute in “Monster.” @@MauM.
I live for the little Easter eggs and callbacks and foreshadowing that hides in the smallest folds in each and every song. This is the main reason why I’m so obsessed with epic. I can’t wait for the rest of the sagas to have the whole thing to listen to and dissect in detail!
That moment with Penelope's motif breaking in is just SO GOOD. This whole album is completely freaking stunning. God. On the one hand, I cannot WAIT for the next album, but on the other hand, this one is so incredible that I think I'll be content listening to it on repeat for months. Ugh.
Penelope's motif is so gorgeous, I'm in love with it. ❤ Everything about the music in EPIC is just so perfect.
Adding the Penelope motif makes that part of the song so freaking powerful!! Once I realized it was there my heart clenched and now I am in pain😢😢
Jay you deserve literally ALL your accolades. Don't ever think otherwise
Same!!!! so excited for the Underworld saga. Already planning my fan-made album cover for it lol
Oh come on, didn't even get to the best part! The reverb when she said "the prophet is dead" was just amazing!
Along with the low piano part which, I suspect, is alluding to going to the underworld (because the note is super low, and nothing is lower than the underworld). Also, the electronic sounds shortly after the piano low note are the same one's Jay has used for many of the underworld saga demo songs
Right?! I was like, “GREAT!…well, shit.”
YESS and i LOVE the very last part where she sings in increasing volume IT GIVES ME CHILLSSSS i actually love it sm
I have been watching Epic since before he dropped the Troy Saga, and i love Epic so much!!!
She and her nymphs trusted strangers, and "faced a heavy loss," and she said that she had "been in love once before..."
I'm reading WAY too much into this, but I like to think that she helped Odysseus both because he reminded her of the way she had been about her lover, and at the same time, was so unlike the way her lover ended up treating her.
@@booknerd525 Ooh I actually really love that it adds so much emotion to the
sigh "Poseidon, eh?" part!
@@IgnisInvicta Yeah I figured that's what had happened with the nymphs... with what I know about greek mythology that makes a lot of sense. And I agree about the test, it makes a ton of sense that she wouldn't have trust in men after whatever happened, especially if they'd used her nymphs and maybe her like that
i actually never noticed the first one where Circe took Odysseus under her control but me and my younger cousin DID notice the "Just a Man" and "Penelope" motif. i actually went nuts over it
I’m not sure if she realizes… MOST of us notice these things 🥹😭💕 JAY YOU ARE A MUSICAL GENIUS I LOVE THIS ALL SO MUCH. THANK YOU FOR WHAT YOU DO!!!
Stop it, I’m crying! Literally was on the Crowdcast for eight hours, made a few friends, had TWO (kinda) poems written about me, and now we’re all in a discord server together gushing about Epic. This is legit the best musical I have ever come across for so many reasons. Thank you so much Jay for bringing this masterpiece to life.
i truly love seeing other people geeking out over this musical
Okay and I also noticed the very first few notes of Puppeteer are a melody we've heard a few times, but the way the notes are arranged, they line up perfectly with, "we should try to find a way no one ends up dead" which is very fitting for the beginning of this saga since it's right after most of his men have been killed by Poseidon. Very cool!!
I remember listening to it and going THATS PENELOPE'S MOTIF!!!
Gave me goosebumps
"But a different kind of spell 😏😏"
- Mr Jalepeño
"There Are Other Ways" made me think it was going to be another "Say No To This" from Hamilton but no, Odysseus stepped back and was loyal, fought back and oh, it's just so good. He loves his wife so much, even after 12 long years 😭 It's probably my favorite song out of the entire musical!
AND ARE WE GUNNA TALK ABOUY CIRCE’S NOTE AT THE END???WHAT A WAY TO END A SAGA
Like seriously why aren't more people talking about it?? It's been stuck in my head ever since.
Circe’s saga out: me happy
Jorge happy: me happy
Hermes being Hermes: me happy
You all having such a great talent: me happy
All the fandom fangirling and fanboying: we all happy 😆
We all so happy.
Jorge makes new video about literally anything about Epic:Happy
Underworld saga releases: Ecstatic!!!
"I'm never gonna be a normal person again, and I'm not complaining" yup me too!, I'm at the exact same point of my life, all this episodes made me fall too madly in love for this musical 💙✨
Congratulation you're writting a masterpiece🤌
I LOVE THE CIRCE SAGA OMGG PREACH WOMAN PREACCCHHH 😭😭💙💙
I love how there is references from other songs all through the saga one of my favourite ones is in ruthlessness when Poseidon says “I’m your darkest moment” which is something Odysseus says to Polyphemus in Remember Them. Basically Jorge you are very bloody clever!
Something else I noticed in the Circe Saga was that it starts with the instrumental of the part in "Full Speed Ahead" when Odysseus says "Polites gear up, you and I'll go ahead." Odysseus is thinking about and missing Polites.
I wouldn't say these things are subtle.
They're definitely amazing and fantastic storytelling by way of music with constant references, tho
This song, THIS SONG, is so amazing!!! I have no words to say how much i loved this saga and specially TAOW!!! ❤❤❤
Dude I felt the exact same way, that song has been stuck in my head the whole day!
Congratulations for the Circe Saga!!!! There Are Other Ways is my favourite!!!! ❤❤❤❤
The call back to just a man and then the cords of Penelope killed me Jay!
DUUDe the comment about cosmere fans probably liking this is so true 'cause I'm a cosmere fan and a writer and a musician and I looove finding the connections between books and I looove finding the little musical connections in this, they're so genius
I look for that kind of things in film and game osts as welll
One of my favorite parts of EPIC is all the little internal callbacks and references. It tells you so much about the characters and their thoughts without actually having to say them, it's just so brilliant. It also shows just how much time and effort and love Jay has put into these songs, which just makes them even more special.
Jorge is my inspiration. My therapist. My life. Thank you so much Jorge, you’re amazing. Really, thank you so much! I cannot wait for more, and after Epic is finished, I’ll stay your friend/fan, don’t worry!
Aahhh Cosmere fandom is the best. Long live Brando Sando
This is one of my favorite musicals ever THANK YOU ps I’m totally the oracle of Delphi and I can tell your going to make it to broadway!
I love the show Hamilton but I have to point some things out that I think Epic has actually scored better here:
Odysseus has carried a lot of guilt throughout his quest.
I honestly think that did really stuck with him and even in other songs when Polites mentions Odysseus having "guilt in his heart" and even Posiden referencing how he could have "JUST killed my son" (I dunno I think that was a pretty particular choice of words)(Anniflamma does a FANTASTIC job showing this in her animatic, it's VERY sad)
I definitely think he felt guilty for other things as well but that particularly is something that would stick with you more than other things especially since it's so personal.
As a Cosmere fan, I can confirm that this is right up our alley
I wanted to happy cry through this saga because it's so good!!!! ❤️
There is no saga in which Jorge wouldn't make a reference to just a men
“ I know of a brilliant prophet….”
“ Only problem is that this prophet is dead…”
As a Cosmere nerd I can confirm it is right up my alley
Sooo true same here... love every saga
I love how happy Jalapeno always looks, hes fanboying over people fanboying over his project that he fanboys over
Completely gorgeous musical man good work to all of you
This woman is the reason I know about Epic. So glad to see her appreciated.
Love the Stormlight-Epic crossover!
This is so relatable. Jay, you’ve blown all of minds and continu to do so. Keep up the great work!!
2:56 I CANT😂😂😂
I just realised what the lyrics meant when Circe is saying “there’s so much power, so much power, but there’s no puppet heeeeeeeere”
She is saying that there’s so much power in their “love” and that their love is so strong and not fake. The part about the puppet is like “This is a mutual love: no-one is controlling anyone.”
It’s like, she’s convincing him that she’s not controlling him and that she’s his true love. In the part where he says “I can’t!” It’s like something snapped in Odysseyus’ mind, saying
“WHAT THE HELL ARE YOU DOING IDIOT!! HOW COULD YOU FORGET THAT YOU’RE MARRIED WHEN YOU LITERALLY KILLED A BABY FOR YOUR WIFE AND CHILD!!!
Like when Circe sings “think of your past and your mistakes, etc”
She’s saying that when you’re with her, you will be carefree ad in paradise.
I’m not sure if that was obvious and I’m just slow, or if I’m a genius.
That woman is an attentive genius
Yes!! I screamed when I heard this song so incredibly good and brilliant!
Omg yes!! The Penelope melody was a beautiful touch. Made me so emotional😢❤
Yo! Cosmere fandom mentioned!!!! This version of Odysseus is a fair bit like Kaladin, now that I think about it 😅
Omlr you're so right, they are pretty similar!
The fact I've seen some people before not making the conection Oddyseus is Singing in Circe's tune, what definitly means she in control specially with the "There is no Puppet Here" that is clearly part of the spell to made him think there is nothing wrong, was surprising and was like "You REALLY didn't relize that!?"
Luckily I think most people did notice her spell was working, but some didn't, and I mean, even if you are not good recognizing Tune Cues, Hermes said the Molly Spell would work Once when the Monster is summoned, so after the battle the effect protecting Oddysues was gone, allowing Circe to try and control him.
Like seriously, context is VERY important for this series
I love Stormlight Memes. She introduced me to you.
this is one of the reasons I love Epic.
You reacting to people appreciating Epic is amazing. Please continue doing that, because it means the world to us fans ❤🎉
I also really like in done for you get the opening of the horse and the infant mixed in with circe's tune as well
I LOVE how she’s on the verge of tears while explaining this and he’s just like ☺️☺️☺️
Ok, what I noticed is that at the beginning of Done For there is a beat played on an instrument that is EXACTLY THE SAME as the one at the beginning of The Horse and the Infant.
I agree with her breakdown! The beauty of the last song with each part is so incredible with all the layers and call backs
StormlightMemes, you're not alone, that was my favorite song of this saga too!!! 😍For like - all the reasons you mentioned and MORE; love love love love LOVE it!! EPIC Odysseus is best Odysseus, hands down, no contest. "Done For" also, the hype!! 🤩🤩🤩
The best gift you can give Jay is analyzing his songs!
Literally one of the first things i noticed (other than the call back lyrics) was the Penelope tune and i got so excited about it!
Yasss I noticed all these! There is so much genius in this musical, it can never be appreciated enough. It's epic in more ways than just its name.
This is THE BEST video I've seen since this morning before i went to the ER for almost 12 hours. God bless this franchise and Jay.
I love looking for these little things in this music. Just shows how incredible of a songwriter Jay is!
Epic is full of details like this, and I love it for that!
Hey Jay, when will we know when The Underworld Saga is coming out?
Halloween, perhaps?
@@MauM. That's actually what I thought because the underworld is a spooky place and it does make sense for them to release it on Halloween. Kind of a bummer that we’ll have to wait until fall for the next saga if it's true tho.
I love all the references of the other songs in every song and I think I'm obsessed with searching all the details hidden in them🤩😍
Mr Jalapeño deserves his fandom! Epic is such am amazing creation, with all these carefully thought out details, I just can't get enough
Can you please give us a at least a hint to why those first two songs of act two are hidden?!
@@MauM. Polites’ soul in the underworld, that is
@@DrakeDragonton
Dude, that possibility hadn't even crossed my mind until now! It would be awesome!
Ugh. I'm so glad I came across this damn musical, it's quickly taking over my life.
