Hello, my friends!!! We are ONE week away from the release of EPIC: The Ocean Saga, so I here's a recap of EPIC's First Saga: The Troy Saga! #epicthemusical
The amount of thought put into each song in Epic will never cease to amaze me, and i love learning about the details that are more subtle and diffcult to notice and parts of the creative process behind the musical As a Greek Mythology nerd I already knew about the Odissey, but Epic makes its story feel so fresh and new, in my opinion it's a great retelling of the myth
my favourite part of open arms is when you can hear one of the lotus eaters warn that it's a "scary cave" I listen for it every time and think it's so cute and also good world building!!!
Jay, for those of us who are unfamiliar with some specific instruments, could you do a separate video detailing the different emotional states and the instruments representing them, but isolating that specific sound for a few notes so we can hear it? That would make it easier to recognize in the song! I want to fully appreciate all of the nuance, and while I can tell there are different sounds and repeated melodies, I don't know all of the names and which instruments are which. Your attention to detail is so wonderful, I want to see the whole picture to really appreciate it!
He has done this! For the characters, he has made videos titled "This is How I Made [Character Names] Music". He has done this for Athena, Zues, Hermes, Polythemus, so on. In the videos he tells you what their specific instrument is, plays a sound bite, and explains why he chose the instrument.
bro i’ve been following this saga since you released “just a man” and oh my gosh it’s been incredible!! i’ve been so inspired making animatics of Epic, and I’m so excited to show them all next year!

If only I could rewind time and listen to the songs from the beginning all over again. I still remember how bewildered I was when I first heard The Horse and The Infant, and My Goodbye. Still listen to last the songs on repeat regularly. Can't wait for the next saga let's go! 🎉

i’ve been eagerly awaiting the new saga and had forgotten how much of a bop the already released ones were! guess who’s going to go listen to them now lol

Wait I acutally never knew that Odysseus saw a vision(as it doesn't mention it) in "The horse and the infant", it makes me wonder if there is another part of a song that's also like that
Artists make Animatic videos which are basically quick sketch animations. I like to watch these animatic's for musical songs when I'm not sure what the scene looks like or what the characters are doing while they sing. There are so many animatics made for Epic: the musical. The horse and Infant animatic done by Gigi is really good. Or The horse and Infant done by pipdoodles is also a really good video. They really help you understand what's going on as the song plays.
How I understand it is that when Odysseus has a quick thought, he experiences a whole conversation face-to-face with Athena, and when it's over everything goes back to normal. Really no time has past. The conversation happened in his mind and ended in the same amount of time it takes someone to breath (as an example). No one around him notices anything, and time seems normal to them.
The questions Odysseus asks while contemplating what to do with the infant are so powerful. 😩They vividly illustrate the dilemma at hand in such a haunting way. 🫣
the way you don't only read out a text to sum up what has happened but include parts of the songs at points where they fit. It's so creative.
