That's cool! I would love to add an arcade stick to my collection or even make my own custom cab someday!

Can't recommend 8BitDo Arcade Sticks enough, wired and wireless, great quality, super long battery life! Works with Nintendo Switch too! Got an idea in my head to make a custom cabinet one day that you can sit the 8BitDo Arcade Sticks into haha. Thanks for watching Samantha!

Sounds a great device Dale, anyway that lets you play arcade classics has to be good. Great to get the arcade stick working with it, they are great I think 👍

Very useful video, thanks. Small question : I have input lag issue with my switch pro controller (even after activating game mode on my tv) : which controller would you recommand me to have 0 input lag with the dock ?

    • @DaleyRetro
      @DaleyRetro  9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Thanks, anything USB should be very low latency/next to no input lag (believe you can use a USB cable with switch pro controller). Game mode on a TV is purely to stop your TV doing any resolution scaling so won't affect controllers. Presuming Bluetooth for the Switch Pro controller has some lag via Bluetooth, but this might not be a bad thing, input lag that's consistent shouldn't affect gameplay much, inconsistent lag is a pain. Anyways, I love my 8BitDo Arcade sticks, use them via USB 2.4GHz dongle, no noticeable lag. Thanks for watching!

Thanks for your answer ! I tried via USB with my PS4 controller and there’s still a small input lag (a bit annoying when you’re playing plateform games like mario). I guess I should buy a 8bitdo 2.4ghz controller, which one would you recommend (except the arcade one) ? I wanted to take the M30 (megadrive) but I heard there were some issues. Did you test some ?

@@DaleyRetroLove your channel, but lots of misinformation here.
      1. USB is incredibly variable in latency. Various 8BitDo controllers have a lot more latency via USB than in 2.4G
      2. In almost all cases, 2.4G will be a lot faster than Bluetooth. Often it will be up to 5-10 times faster.
      3. The modern Bluetooth controllers that come with the systems (Switch/Xbox/PS) are awful options for retro games due to very high latency. Modern games are programmed with input latency in mind, so using them for their consoles is mostly unproblematic.
      4. Game Mode on TV absolutely has a huge affect on input latency, albeit not directly. Like you said, turning on Game Mode makes the TV draw the image faster, by eliminating extra processing for various visual features.
However, if you don't use it, you will add the screen latency on top of the inherent latency from the controller. So in essence, you're adding screen latency on top of input latency.
That makes it extra hard to play games, because not only is your crappy Bluetooth/USB controller adding input latency. But now your TV is giving you visual feedback way too late to react properly with well timed inputs.
      5. Even consistent input latency is horrible in certain games, especially those that constantly require precise or well-timed inputs. You're not going to notice it by playing slow moving games. And yes, inconsistent latency is even worse. But you should absolutely take steps to also eliminate consistent latency, unless all you're doing is playing RPGs or other slow moving games. The difference in Bluetooth and 2.4G can be night and day for a huge amount of action-oriented retro games.
      6. The 8BitDo Arcade Stick is an outlier. It's one of the very few controllers out there that has faster Bluetooth than 2.4G. Very weird, but that's how it goes sometimes.
Cheers, keep pumping out the videos!

      7. The best controller you can get for the Analogue Dock is the 8BitDo SN30 2.4G (or SF30 2.4G if you prefer the colored buttons).
It's by far the fastest and most versatile controller, that works great with every core. M30 is good, too, but has a poor button layout for many games and cores.
N30 (NES) is also great, but once again, button layout is only suitable for certain cores.
The SN30 is universal in its button layout and two shoulder buttons, and it's a good reason all modern controllers have copied the SNES controller layout. It just works for everything, and always feels natural.
If you use any of these controllers I mentioned, and Game Mode on your TV, you won't have any problems with input latency anymore. It will be virtually lagless, uf your TV is not shite ofc.
PS: Remember to use the Dock-specific firmware from 8BitDo when you get the controller.
