      @Al 72 um yes they have th-cam.com/video/l1hFzcTW8SI/w-d-xo.html & www.smh.com.au/national/australian-coronavirus-vaccine-goes-into-test-production-20200221-p5436l.html for starters & June is fine for Australia & New Zealand, the virus isn't expected to hit until around July to September due to extensive work in both countries to eliminate the early cases & yes, to enforce travel bans to stop any future cases arriving (then have extensive information for ALL travellers on the virus & free health care for any travellers who show symptoms regardless of general health insurance status promoted to them because inevitably at least some will slip through & 100% of them must be caught immediately to keep the virus out.
      New Zealand hasn't had a single case, but is still prepping & expecting it. Australia got 15 cases into the community early on (and a lot more suspected cases that cleared), but hasn't had a single new case in the community for over 3 weeks now, so it's eliminated, but extensive precautions are still being taken & it is expected to take hold, hence the vaccine being developed fast. Australia & New Zealand are sharing all resources to protect both countries from the virus with reduced spending & effort from both governments eg New Zealanders evacuated Australians from Wuhan with some spare seats they had (evacuated other South Pacific countries too) & then Australia evacuated the New Zealand citizens from the Diamond Princess since there weren't enough to validate NZ sending it's own plane there

      I hope you are well, Sylvia. The best you can do is make sure you have a lot of your medications, some tylenol, some anti diarrheal medicine on hand because some people get that symptom and vomiting too. Of course I hope you stay well and do not need any of those things. Lots of soup frozen or in cans and whatever tylenol is called in your country for aches and fever. If you can locate a good mask use it and if not use what you can to cover your face and nose. Remember to use wrap around glasses if you must leave home and do not bring shoes inside either. I have rubber gloves for outside too. Wash hands immediately upon returning home and use diluted chlorine on your sink, door handles and anything else you touched outside your home. All this to keep from infection. Be well. Remember we wish you well and all your country.

Other countries like where I am in US have decided to simply not test and sweep it under the rug because otherwise it's bad for business. At the end of the day we might end up in a much worse situation. Stay safe.

      Well the point is sustained person to person in at least two continents and except for the most recent Canadian infection which was traced to visiting Iran, all the cases outside of Asia has been traced to travel to Asia. The Canadian case is pretty much the first evidence that it may be a pandemic, a couple of more cases that can't be traced to travel to China and there'll be no question that it's a pandemic.
      People have probably been unknowingly traveling with infected people on planes for two to three months now. They really should be asking all travelers regardless of where they came from and indeed anyone who visits an airport to at least wear masks in public and preferably self-isolate for at least two weeks. Of course this is predicated with whether or not there's enough masks which I doubt there is in North America because unlike China where people wore masks due to air pollution, masks are simply not part of the North American daily lives hence there's no reason to have any significant stock of masks on hand and where are you going to order more masks, China?

    How is it possible to isolate an area on a passenger plane?

    • @johnwang9914
      @johnwang9914 4 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The American flights loaded a sealed box with seats inside. Presumably they kept it at a lower air pressure than the cabin pressure which is easy to do at altitude.
      But even with a regular passenger jet, the airflow is from the front to the back so you max out the fresh air intake, segregate the infected at the rear of the plane and close off the curtains. It's how smoking used to be contained back when they allowed smoking on planes. The rear cabin was for smoking and watching a movie since they used projectors and actual film back then.

In Italy, there's obviously been community transmission.... they've got 52 cases now. Lars Jones - the flu mutates so is seasonal. This covid19 could be the same, so another seasonal illness to kill the weak or those too stupid to vaccinate. It is currently more deadly then the flu, but from a virus viewpoint killing your host is inefficient, as you want them walking around to spread more copies of yourself. Thus viruses tend to get weaker over time. The flu has hit weaker over the last century, though some seasonal variations have been stronger. As humans we don’t want to be the hosts Covid19 experiments on. The is one study which says that nonWuhan Covid19 infections have had a lower death rate than Wuhan infections. It also says that Covid19 is highly infectious, far more than the flu.

    I would also think that if one has flu-like symptoms, a mask in public might be a good idea in any case no matter what the particular infection is? I had a nasty bug recently and wore one, mostly for the peace of mind of those around me who might be concerned about a random stranger coughing.
    I also found it more comfortable since I live in a cold climate and whatever I had lingered with my lungs being a bit congested. The cold, dry air was uncomfortable; the mask did a bit to pre-warm and humidify the air I inhaled.

    Still, the agency says influenza has caused up to 57,300 deaths and sickened up to 41.3 million people, according to new estimates. And the CDC reported five new flu-related deaths in children, raising the total confirmed this season to 91.”. Also note we hit a 10 year high in child deaths from Influenza B.

Trying to turn around the argument, look at yourself, how aggressive have you been particularly in these posts. If you think arguing for calm and perspective and the lack of references to outlandish claims is dangerous, think of what fear brings. Most of the negative effects of this epidemic are from the reactions to it, the cities infrastructure has been shut down, people with any symptoms are being consolidated in close quarters using shared chemical porta-potties. How long will it be before people start dying at home from the lack of supportive care, food and medicines instead of just from complications from the virus. MER has a mortality rate of over 30%, SARS had a mortality rate of 10%, this virus has a mortality rate of 1% to 3%, and the flu has a mortality rate of 0.1% to 0.3% and this is enough for you to scream the sky has fallen? Yes, the estimated R-naught is 2.24 with the possibility of it being from 1.5 to 5.6 rather than the R-naught of the flu of 1.2 but remember the measles has a R-naught of 14 yet anti-vaxxers refuse measles vaccines. Get a little perspective here. I'm probably one to spray everything with rubbing alcohol but the nonsense and fear being spread online is ridiculous and often unfounded.

      MilesBellas I can’t agree with you. Most people could benefit from understanding the basics - so terms like “pandemic” should be defined. The interviewer actually accomplished a lot - if his goal was to help viewers understand, and not to make himself sound smart.

      Seriously, a 1% to 3% chance of dying if you catch it and an 80% chance the symptoms will be so mild that you may not even notice? And that's enough to use an expletive? Do you freak out over crossing a street too?

      @@johnwang9914 I respect your opinion, but - 1~3% of whole humanity, that is also 1:50 people you know near you.
      Beside that - it'll take a lot of time to get back to what is still considered normal, hope i'm wrong ofc :)

    • @johnwang9914
      @johnwang9914 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ShlomiOhayon It is a lot of people, the Spanish flu was a 1% mortality rate but a 2% rate isn't 1 in 50 people you know, it's just a 63.58% chance that one or more people in that group of 50 people would die, there's still a 36.42% chance that no one in that group of 50 would die. Plus, we have a lot in our lives such as crossing the street that is dangerous and how many times in your life have you had the flu, granted the mortality rate of the average flu is 0.1% to 0.3% normally but how often have you had it and how often will you have it in the future. Now, people are saying this Corona virus could potentially infect up to 65% of the global population so this is a serious situation but we still need to be calm about this. If we panic, we'll deplete a lot of our resources and more people will die. It's like evacuating a plane, will more people get to safety if it's an orderly exit or if everyone just rushes to the exit.
      The greatest danger is if we all get sick at the same time so in lieu of a vaccine, we need to spread out the disease as much as possible. Hopefully delay it till after the flu season where not only should it abate somewhat as Corona viruses seems to be seasonal but more beds at the hospitals will be available. I doubt that we could simply build more "hospitals" in a week though it would be interesting to try. As moronic as the US supreme leader is, his statement of it'll go away with warmer weather is a simpleton's way of stating the obvious.
      Last night while grocery shopping, I checked the pharmacy section. The shelves where the rubbing alcohol was kept was completely bare and all the hand sanitizers larger than the pocket sized ones were sold out. People don't seem to be in a panic in North America but they are already making a run on supplies. It doesn't take much for our actions to cause even more deaths. Granted, had the shelves not been bare, I probably would've purchased a bottle, if you fill up one of those lens cleaner fluid spray bottles, they make a great way to spread some disinfectant around.
