Aliyah Boston, her teammate was the 1st overall pick in the 2023 draft. And NaLyssa Smith was the 2nd overall pick in the 2022 draft. Yet, they’re still in second last place. Caitlin ranks 14th in pts/game, 4th in assists/game, 49th in 3pt FG%, and 83rd in overall FG%. No doubt she will continue to improve, as will the Fever. But let’s give all the other tremendous WNBA players their due!
And Kobe Bryant played for years as a Laker and they didn't win championships for most of those years. Players need to be evaluated as individuals not how good or bad their team is.

The sad thing about this is that since so few people covered the WNBA before this they fail to realize just how many really good/ great players there are not named Caitlin Clark. I watched young a LeBron in 04 for the Olympics, and have never watched him in the NBA besides highlights. I don't like the sport, but intrigue got me which would have been the case here with many. They killed the Golden goose for people interested in her, that would have possibly gotten people interested in the others as well. Stop trying to inject logic into any conversation about this subject. The whole narrative around this woman is beyond weird because a lot of it is not about her as a person, an athlete, a basketball player, or anything else tangible.
@rl318 - Facts..... It's just irritating...... Now, they have moved the conversation to talking about attendance..... Like when in any sport, have they used attendance to make a player seem good. The hell with her play, she's popular to the european americans, so bow down to her.

US Olympic team got this soooo wrong. Did you see her last game? Her impact on college basketball? Really stupid move. Could have helped grow the sport internationally. Jealous petty move.

The players selected in the past have garnered about 7 consecutive gold medals so the selection process works.
Haven't you seen the way she draws crowds in? And objectively, she can play. So together with that, wouldn't want that attention to your team? Nooo? Why not see the big picture and see how this would tremendously improve the game

@@buddyforbes7157 But you can't kick someone off the team to make room for a player just because they're popular. The standard's a simple one: The best players make the team. The coaches know that she has very little experience at the pro/international level.
Let’s look at the facts. The Indiana Fever’s record is 3-9. In the standings, they are currently in 11th place out of 12 total teams; second last. Caitlin was the 1st overall pick in 2024 draft. Aliyah Boston, her teammate was the 1st overall pick in the 2023 draft. And NaLyssa Smith was the 2nd overall pick in the 2022 draft. Yet, they’re still in second last place.
There are so many incredible, experienced players in the WNBA that deserve to be on TeamUSA! I have no doubt Caitlin Clark is a future Hall of Famer, but this media circus is nauseating.
Players need to be evaluated as individuals not how good or bad their team is.
and this boston and smith you spoke of... they still play ... never heard of them before cc ... and thats the whole point

The sad thing about this is that since so few people covered the WNBA before this they fail to realize just how many really good/ great players there are not named Caitlin Clark. When we start talking about “she should make the team”, we need to begin with who is being taken off. Chelsea Gray comes to mind but that’s because of injury. If she is healthy she’s one of the best guards in the world and was the 2022 WNBA finals MVP. Unlike the men, the woman’s team really is a fight to get on the team. A sure fire HOF in Nneka Ogwumike has never made the team even though she’s a former MVP and didn’t make it in the year she won MVP (2016).
With the men, some NBA players don't even want to play for team USA some years, so it is much easier to get on the team compared to WNBA. All of those women are looking to add to their legacies via Olympic medals and potential int'l earnings.
Her career is measured in months right now and nobody's entitled to a spot on an Olympic team. Tired of hearing about this. It's ridiculous.
HAHAHA. They were given a golden goose to market their sport and they sideline her. WOMEN, ALWAYS HILARIOUS.
THIS IS GOOD FOR HER! REST WOMAN! yes, she is GOOD ENOUGH, just wait til the next team.

Too many casual fans in this comment section. Caitlyn is averaging 16.8 pts on 37% FG and 32% 3PT. Those are terrible shooting percentages.
Yes most people are and without these “casuals” these women will never make the money they desire
Which is why Stephen Curry gave her very high praises.
At this point it should be all about growing the brand, increasing viewership and making money. The WNBA has failed on all counts. As of now they’ve probably lost most of their new supporters. I guess they’re content with being stuck in the mud.
ESPN needs to fire Jamele Hill due to her not being unbiased. She obviously supports the status quo. Everything she says is biased. How can not being on the team is good for CC?
Christie Brennan is much more unbiased. Asking questions is the job of a journalist. Unlike Jamele who acts like she knows everything and has all the answers. From the start CC was asked, and she said she wanted to be on the team. Olympics is a once in a lifetime honor to be selected and every athlete should be acceptance with whatever role they are given.
The fact that this decision is based on things other than the sport itself is in fact waking up a dragon. It's downright stupid as what the old guard status quo represents. If you want Inclusivity you must also be acceptance towards the norm. Don't be DEI if you yourself aren't.
Next Olympics, CC should demand that none of these stooges are on the team.

So...the people who have never watched a women's Olympic basketball game are now vowing not to watch.
What's hard to understand? I'd have watched it since it's the Olympics, and the hype on her. I have zero interest in basketball, let alone woman's basketball as most people do with female basketball. I watched young a LeBron in 04 for the Olympics, and have never watched him in the NBA besides highlights. I don't like the sport, but intrigue got me which would have been the case here with many. It's simple for most, since really nobody watches Woman & people wanted to see her for same reasons as any young hyped player people want to see, curiosity. They had a chance for people to test the water with a known name especially outsiders as Europe. They killed the Golden goose for people interested in her, that would have possibly gotten people interested in the others as well. NBA grew because of the 92 Olympics around the world, especially with Jordan & team U.S.A. being marketed perfectly. This wouldn't have been anything like that, but sure as he'll couldn't have hurt to try since she's the only name most of us heard of. Besides that thing America traded for a terrorist.

"CC didn't have to play major minutes for that to occur." I would hope that this would be the majority viewpoint, it would require only her playing the closing minutes in the final qtr. of the games already out of reach for the opposing team when Clark would have maybe three, four, five, at most six points in any game during the Olympics, it's just the appearance in a game for any amount of time, like in the final seconds of the April 2024 NCAA final in Cleveland when the coach (Lisa Bluder, unknown at that moment that it was her final game as coach) as a honorary gesture sent the teammate of Clark who wasn't available because of a knee injury earlier in the year and wasn't at full strength to play in any Big Ten tournament or NCAA tournament games, Molly Davis (uniform #1) was able to have her name on the official (scoresheet) box score.
