Love seeing a sheriff or any law enforcement officer that is actually knowledgeable about guns. Makes me want to move back to Missouri. Keep it up. I hope people show you love, and maybe one day you can retire and do this full time.
I always liked my M16A1 in the Army, extremely accurate especially out to 300 yards. In full auto I found it would ride up to the right. Never had much use for the full auto mode. I always have liked the platform.
Thanks, that was interesting. When I was a young deputy we had a couple of local "frequent fliers" who might have been in possession of stolen M-16s from a local military base. I had some trepidation about finding out if they did have machine guns, and we chased a couple other of that group who had been in possession of a MAC machine pistol. One thing that gave me comfort is that none of this crew had any training with any of these weapons, and as long as I stayed close to the ground I'd probably be safe enough to practice my own marksmanship.
I am here because of an m16a1. That said as a avid shooter full auto is not that useful. It is fun to shoot full auto but crazy expensive. I totally agree with your comments. I did build a (semi auto only) clone of the m16a1 and enjoy letting folks who have never shot a light weight 20 in iron sight AR get a feel for this incredible platform.
Thanks for the video. I’m kind of old, ha. First issue was a M16-A1 in AF. CATM didn’t mind if 1Sgt came to the range to check out other non primary platforms. 😊 Love the CAT hat btw, I’ve supported Cat business since the mid 90’s. Great company. Thanks Sheriff Matt!
If that gun was registered before May 19 1986 on form 3 or 4 not form 10 It's worth about $ 40,000 grand depending ! And can be sold to dealers and New one's post samples can replace them for under a grand max ! Fun times ahead !
Dad bought me my first AR when I turned 16 in 1988. It was a Colt CAR and we shot the piss out of it. When I was in basic training in the Air Force in 1990, we trained on the old M16 platform, man I thought that 20” barrel was huge and unwieldy. 😂. I still have that old CAR, and would definitely like to get an old Colt SP1 for sure. Here in Hawaii, we are not allowed anything on the NFA list. Even if I could afford a giggle switch, I wouldn’t legally be able to possess it here. Great video, brought back some memories. Thanks! Subscribed. Aloha 🤙🏽
Sir, Our U S ARMY drills told us back in 1995 something about the toy company Mattel building these via contract for the military. I was waiting to see if you were going to say the same. I haven’t heard it anywhere else. May not be true!
Next time, square up your stance, lean into it, bring the strong side elbow down tight, run your support hand forward with your thumb over the top and press off 5ish round bursts and you'll have better success.
I like the thin Barrel gives it a better balance feel, I have several of the Colt law enforcement 6520s with the thin Barrel, and some of the 6920s flat tops with heavier barrel, and to switch from one to the other, the light barrel has a much better feel.
It's good to know some of those deputies are training and carrying those rifles, every once in awhile crazy situations do develop, and one cop on scene with one of those rifles would make a big difference. some of those police training videos from the 70s, law enforcement would be outgunned facing opponents with rifles and it didn't end well. Even a patrol rifle is a good idea, a machine gun is even better as long as the department is buying the ammo.
So that concept of “until you commit a crime” i assume you are meaning robbery, assault etc. so if you or one of your deputies pulled a gentleman over that was going to his private range and had this exact rifle, they would be let go?
The actual reason for the forward assist was, because the army "always had a way to hit on the bolt, so it can be pushed into battery" (aka M1 grarand, M1 carbine, M14) and the M16 didn't

Marine corps May 1980 I was issued my first
M16 A1.
Love this rifle. Qualified Expert, earning my medal, the very first time shooting it while I was stationed with SEAL Team 3.
Nice Presentation Sheriff , i agree the semi version is the Ticket

So good to hear some good, common sense, no nonsense presentation.
First time watching. Your video Felt like a talk from a ol friend. I will definitely be watching more.
I had a H&R M16A1 with A2 hand guards issued to me during Desert Storm. 👍
Total collector's item.
Beautiful piece!
Thanks for sharing your insight and being a good steward to your community.
That rifle looks almost brand new. Reminds me of most of what we had in the National Guard Armory back in the 80's.

If you were shooting at me, I would prefer that you had the giggle switch set to "ON"
Flat top receiver topped with an Elcan scope gives great accuracy

Real American sheriff.

This is my exact question

Full auto not practical in the age of 14 dollars for 20rds. Back in early 70's under a dollar maybe.
Next time, square up your stance, lean into it, bring the strong side elbow down tight, run your support hand forward with your thumb over the top and press off 5ish round bursts and you'll have better success.
Bought an SP -1 when I turned 18 in 1980, very similar. One of my Vietnam buddies said it was the same just didn’t have the rock’n roll switch! 😂
My first AR was an old SP1. Serial number was 77777.......... easy to remember.
I really like the light weight barrel ARs

It would be interesting to see what the qualifications are for machine gun.
Great Channel Matt, Ty Sir!
Thanks!
