I had akathisia. It was like being on fire constantly and you can’t put it out. I almost shot myself in the head just to make it stop. I never even imagined that such agony could even exist. There is nobody on earth, no matter how evil, that I would wish it upon.
Awesome conversation. Bravo to you, Wendy! I'm so sorry for your loss and I thank you for spreading such a helpful message! I doubled my Paxil dosage in 2018 and experienced 4 months of constant suicidal ideation (I had never contemplated suicide ever before). It was so scary, mainly because at the time, I had no idea it that my change in meds may have been a cause. Also, I'm glad at 22:45 it was acknowledged that "calling 911" for akathesia is probably not the best idea. I'm glad I didn't kill myself when I was experiencing these symptoms, but I'm also glad I didn't call 911 or somehow get placed in a psych ward!
This channel should have more views and comments. My impression about the “mental health” approach in American healthcare system is that clinicians do NOT deal with concrete individuals’ symptoms each patient may experience TO BEGIN with, before starting any psychotrops. And then, as symptoms get worse and new ones are manifested, the doses are increased and a new medication gets added, per “algorithm”, per “protocol”, per “science”. Following a very fuzzy idea about what and how to assess. Quite shameful for the industry, I must say. These suicide victims die ultimately from misery and exhaustion in search of relief from torture. And yes, some other commenter said - never have I heard of a case study as the reesult of the mass-shootings perpetrators. What psychotrops could they have been on?
Thank you so much!! 😮 MAD has given me so much info. I now know what is happening with me because you selflessly give info. As a 25 year Paxil user , now 2 years out. Still having withdrawals...but lessening microscopically. I experienced a consuming rage lasted 3 months, I would be interested in a study on the uptic in mass shootings. What psych meds were they on?
I've had akathisia for 23 years if I try and get off these antipsychotic meds,I get withdrawal akathisia, and they use it to say I'm a paranoid schizophrenics schizophrenics
Wendy, I'm sorry for your loss. I've been in Treatment for mental health for 45 years, since I was 17.I've been on many different meds and now feel stable. I did try the SSRI's in the 1990,some made me feel very anxious. Paxil(Pareoxiten ) caused some anxiety and sleep problem. I thought it was working yet I went off after a year. The one I eventually stayed on was Celexa(Citalapram) it doesn't cause me anxiety but on a low dose Clonazepam. in 2009,my outpatient DR. wanted to change my meds a bit wasn't having any problems, so why change. Well, that whole Summer I had off and on Akathisia and was treated with meds. I would upgoing between 2 different hospital, which one I like more.
Every doctor should be required warning their patients of “new or worsening symptoms,” especially depression, agitation and restlessness.

I'm currently suffering from Reglan induced akathisia. A single does
I got akathisia from Gadovist (gadolinium - the contrast used in MRIs)
Thank you for speaking out
I just weaned myself off my meds after the Akathesia was trying to take over. Day 10 no Seroquel and Lamictal,
The suffering is certainly real. Mine
