Millions of people worldwide are physically dependent on commonly prescribed psychiatric drugs. While these drugs can provide effective short-term relief, pharmaceutical companies have hidden their dangerous side effects, addictive nature, and long-term harm from both doctors and patients.

The psycho Pharmaceutical industry started with severe mental illnesses. They created thorazine. Antipsychotics make big differences in some people's lives. There just isn't a lot of people at that level of need. They make way more money on antidepressants and ADHD drugs. The people with mild issues are there cash cow. Most of the people who have severe mental illnesses can barely afford them. They are hard to treat and it is just easier to go after mostly normal people with some depression.

And to think weed has been demonised for so long. No one overdoses, withdrawing doesn’t come with a risk of death or extreme withdrawals, anyone can grow it. Just a shame how people are pushed onto using coping mechanisms that have the potential to be so harmful.

I'm 76 and take no medications at all. 20 years ago the Veteran's Administration had me on all kinds of medications, for depression, PTSD, high blood pressure and pain. I quit that nonsense as one medication always caused more problems. And in 2013 I left the US and left all my problems behind. My problems were all environmental and situational and no medications will ever correct the causes.

During 2016, when my son died on the road here in the Kingdom of Belgium, I made an appointment with a psy at the flamish hospital close to my house : AZ VUB, asking for help. The psychiatrist told me exactly this : " The less you take chemich drugs, the better you feel. You must grieve". I said,: "what? But doctor, I go in the woods at night and I scream, I run, I scratch the ground, please, help me ! " He answered : "You scratch the ground to find the love you've lost, keep doing it. Don't stop and come back to talk with me any time. I'm here for you. Call me any time but don't start with chem. drugs. You need time to grieve". We talked for an hour and did it every week. What a wonderful doctor. After a cupple of months, we became friends. Thanks God, I met the right psychatrist.

It's doctors that recommend poison to their patients and the last time I heard no pharmacy will fill pharmaceuticals without a doctor's order. All of it went away when I started limiting my sugars and carbohydrates. Food affects mental and physical health.

Former nurse here. This is hands down the absolute best documentary I've seen. My own family doctor had prescribed a medication for me and obviously, I immediately asked about possible side effects. She only mentioned one, which would happen with long term use. I took it for a few years then found information on just how dangerous it was if taken long term. I was furious and quit taking it. It infuriates me to see how doctors and Big Pharma treat us, and I deeply feel for everyone who has suffered because of incompetence and greed.

We need cholesterol to be healthy which is why our body will make it if we don't get enough thru our diet. And you are correct that doctors will prescribe statins without discussing any other option. I had a very nice doctor want to put my 90 yo mom on statins "just in case". We had a good conversation and I said "No, she is going to die of something and I am not worried about her heart." He did accept my decision but the fact that he suggested it at her age told me a lot.

My mom took several medications after my 18 yr old sister died. I was 16 at the time in 1983.She was on over 20 medications. She died from complications of a overdose in 2017 fentanyl and hydrocodone. She was addicted over 34 years. My sister was bedridden from age 1 until she died at 18 so my mom had a lot on her along with having 3 other kids and losing one at 6m pregnant. I was always so worried about my mom because I knew she had been through so much trauma. I tried talking to her doctor and the nursing home she was in a few weeks before she died. They told me she was a grown woman and can make her own decisions in other words take as many pills as she wants. They was helping her to move into a apartment on her own knowing she had a addiction problem. My mom got mad at me because I tried stopping her from moving by talking to the nursing home. 2 weeks living on her own she overdosed and damaged her heart, 2 weeks later she was gone. I got to spend the last 2 weeks with her but I feel robbed when I look at the great grandchildren she now has but didn’t get to meet

Paxil is known (well, in circles where such things are discussed) as being particularly dangerous coming AND going. Or, as I told my late husband, “If you weren’t already taking it, I wouldn’t want you to start; but since you’ve been taking it for 10 years, it would be just as dangerous for you to stop”. Some dodo-brained psychiatrist suddenly stopped it during his last psychiatric hospitalization, and he spent a week puking and pooping; came back and took 30 minutes to make a 5 minute drive because he kept thinking he’d run over imaginary people… I’d never recommend it to anyone. Prozac is considered the safest of the SSRI’s, mostly because it takes so long to leave your body it creates a gradual ramping-up and ramping-off all on its own, like Valium does for benzos (as explained in the Ashton Manual, available for free online); this effect also makes it helpful for tapering off any SSRI.

I'm sorry for your loss but this is why doctors should be more transparent or at least more knowledgeable on the potential side effects when starting antidepressants. It often gets worse before it gets better and it can take 1-3 months for them to take effect. These negative side effects are temporary until the meds kick in. It's a shame doctors don't talk about this with their patients as it's life saving information.

The nurse said the doctor (of Physical Medicine) had added an antidepressant (without any discussion). I refused it until I could talk to him. I asked why he’d prescribed it, as I was not feeling depressed, and he said, “We assume you will be.” …..!!
I refused the prescription, and then I expedited my withdrawal off of pain medication, which although was very necessary at the beginning, I believe I was also over-prescribed (too many and for too long).

By the time I aged out at 18 I had taken over 28 different psychiatric meds. My 18th bday I signed myself out of state care in 2000. It’s no wonder, I succumbed to the opioid epidemic and by 2003 I was on methadone(preferred treatment at that time). I was stuck on that until 2009 when I switched to suboxone. I was a slave to that until may 2023 when I flew to Mexico and detoxed with a sacred plant medicine used for 1000’s of years called Ibogaine. I was prescribed an SSRI because I was withdrawn for a summer as a teenager. The SSRI made me irritable, which then led to a false diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder Type 2. I was then prescribed more drugs which kept me in a drug-induced haze which ruined 16 years of my life. Eventually, I discovered the book Anatomy of an Epidemic by Robert Whitaker and other critical psychiatry books and realized what was happening to me, so I slowly tapered off the psych drugs. As an RN from the "old school", I have always been wary of "new" drugs. Years ago an MD tried to prescribe a drug to lower cholesterol but I refused. I did my own experiment and could basically alter my test numbers with diet. 100 pts. up and down within r 2 weeks. Now I am an elder and just avoid doctors. Due to elder poverty, my diet has gone screwy and I feel lousy. But......the establishment will claim I need some drugs. No damn it...I just need to eat well and not be stressed by constant demands to comply with insane people's rules !!

I’m an RN and I know it’s a bit of hypocrisy in me but I do not go to the doctors at all unless absolutely necessary (ie, broken arm, accidents, etc). I’ve already witnessed what the health system is like. Doctors should only be there for major issues and everyone really should be taking care of their health on a daily basis via diet and exercise and building coping mechanism for stress to prevent chronic issues. Accidents we cannot control, and that is what medicine and doctors should be for. The rest, we can take care of at home living holistically. I’m pregnant with my first child and I will go to the doctor to get checkups but I will not participate in extra drugs or unnecessary procedures. It’s a shame that it has to come to that but I feel the current health system is too profit oriented to be safe

Similar thing here. Often homeless, warehouse jobs, but actually quite healthy for my age, and have been living with cancer with over a decade (I was diagnosed when still in my early 30s, it had spread but the mets were dormant and the cancerologist who seemed the most competent - I saw a few of them - suggested watchful waiting as there wasn't a 'treatment' available, i.e. a molecular target). Osteoarthritis and my eyesight are bigger bothers. I focus on eating well (ie. meat, fish and vegetables, cooking frojm scratch) and getting enough sleep (not that easy when you either sleep in fields or in dorms or in a tent at a camping site). With my existing conditions and my background, I could be on 2 dozens medications, would definitely have a thyroidectomy etc.
I wonder about the Princess of Wales who had surgery in January and has been 'focusing on her health' since then. Apparently she is having preventative chemotherapy now. What if she couldn't afford to stop working, like me?

I stopped taking it because it did nothing, and I was worried about becoming dependent on the medication and I was still numb and still had bad thoughts in my head. Bless my husband, he helped me heal, slowly but surely I came out of the depression. It was hard, but talking about my sadness and grief got me through the other side. My husband gave me a safe place to talk and heal. I dont think i could ever repay him for helping me the way NO ONE has ever done for me before. The more I talked about it, the better I became. At 16 was the first time my doctor tried to put me on antidepressants. I was not depressed. Just normal teenage emotions. She tried over the years to get me on them then finally snuck ant iaxiety meds on me for endometriosis pain. I noticed they didnt help my condition but helped me to sleep better, so I looked up what the med treated and it was anxiety. I immediately stopped taking it. And my doc was mad. I am my own doctor now. These doctors work for the big pharm not the well being of the patient. Sad times.

Please don't encourage other people to just jump off of anti anxiety meds. You do know withdrawls cause seizure and death? I'm telling you from personal experience. 100% bet you were not on any benzos for over 2 weeks or you would not irresponsibly and callously be telling people to just jump off , you might as well tell them to jump off a bridge. My Mom was on antidepressants and anti psychotic drugs for depression since the 1970s. She was never really present. She seemed distant, numb, and bereft of any emotion. I vowed never to alter my own feelings by taking such pills. I want to fully experience life’s ups and downs. As a nurse, I witnessed the effects of poly pharmacy on a daily basis. Taking 30 pills a day was routine for many elderly assisted living residents. Many of these drugs were antidepressants. Falls were quite frequent and prevalent, and the negative outcomes became an endless cycle of decline. Wine was served at meals, and this only enhanced the problem. Ethically, I could no longer participate in such a dangerous mode of operation. I have recently left the profession. It was sick care, not healthcare.

She took many many many medications, and everything described in this documentary is her life. It was tragic to see her deteriorate, to see her disconnect from us emotionally, physically, in every way. She was a shell of the person I knew as a child. I agree with a lot of this, however, my husband is bipolar and without medication he becomes completely psychotic and manic. Please just understand there are people who absolutely need these meds and will be on them for life. I would hate for people to take from this that all meds are bad. The stories I'm hearing are people who are not under the care of good psychiatrists. No lorazepam or any benzodiazepine ( - apams) should be given as anything more than temporary assistance. I firmly belueve they shouldn't be prescribed as take home meds or, if done so, are given only a small amount, like the pain pills you get post surgery.
Also, medications for heart, diabetes or even mental illnesses are only part of the fix. You need to fix the problem, lose weight, eat healthier, exercise, go to therapy or whatever other treatments. Medications are a supplemental therapy. The fact that these doctors treat them like the ultimate fix is a problem. The best psychiatrist I had was one who used to be a psychiatrist/therapist and who was a big promoter of cognitive therapy. He actually listened. It's surprising how many of them do not listen.

@@janeharris5568 sincere congratulations on your achievements and success. Now that you are happy and healthy and engaged with life, I am wondering what purpose the ongoing input of a psychiatrist, cognitive behavioural therapist and medications serve for you? Do you regard these inputs as integral to your ongoing wellbeing? Clearly you are grateful to the change they made to your life before and after. And kudos to you for still opening yourself to the unsettling stories of others who have not fared at all well. Benzos and psych meds have not been a horror story for you and I hope they never are. If you ever decide you are resilient enough and wanting to live life without them, please be very careful to taper slowly (hyperbolic taper).
As someone with a Bsc it's possible you will understand the ways in which their use undermines, if not devastates, normal homeostatic regulation of gaba and glutamate - one of the reasons why withdrawal transforms into a living nightmare. It takes time for the body to learn to compensate for and repair the damage caused by these meds, which is often only revealed when they are taken away.
Klonopin is a benzodiazepine. In 2020 the USA FDA updated the black box warning for benzos with regards to what the dangers of what they mislabel as 'addiction' as well as dangerous withdrawal symptoms: "In order to prevent dependence on benzodizepines, health care providers are advised to limit a prescription to 1-2 week supply".
Do you think it is fair for people who are taken medications as prescribed to be labelled as "addicts"?
How do you feel about your psychiatrist/prescriber continuing to prescribe drugs to you in a way that dispels the black box warning?

I lost 3 members of my immediate family tragically and suddenly. I was on meds for 42 years. Bipolar meds, sleeping pills, omeprazole, 4 B.P. pills, 6-9 pynstop per day, prozac. I had everything wrong with me you can think of. Cancer, hiatus hernia, excema, depression, migraines, arthritis, CONSTANT bladder infections, an ulcer, growth in my bowel, 2 back operations....
The crunch came when i fell and my vertebra slipped 10.8mm. My physiotherapist put me on a health diet, deep breathing, cold showers and exercise. I'm off ALL meds and never felt better. I'm 70 and my 45 year old son said i remind him of his mother when he was a young teenager. I have had no need for one drug and havent had one bladder infection for 2.5 years.

"I can label you with something that you can never overcome".
So many psychiatrists and psychologists should be aware about this, and they don't.
Around 30 years ago I asked my psychologist "What do I have?". She explained that she didn't think it was right to give me any diagnosis because it wouldn't be of any help for me. And I overcame whatever I was going through back then and went on with my life. I went to therapy when I felt I needed it. I believed in it.
4 years ago I was having my midlife crisis and I went back. They diagnosed me with bipolar II, prescribed me Zoloft and made me feel so sick, so sad, so unable to get out of that hole I was in, it was so scary. I almost lost my life and my family in the process. I just thank God I could come out without loosing more than those years of my life and I don't have long lasting effects of the treatment.
I think that they don't teach them in school anymore about the dangers of their professions.

And how quickly they find a medical label for your feelings nowadays so they can medicate you for life. A win situation for Big Pharma, which is all they wanted.

I'm sorry, but a psychiatrist couldn't prescribe you Zoloft if you're bipolar. It's forbidden by their protocols.

    • @FriendsOfVeronica419
      @FriendsOfVeronica419 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

@@xxxxxxxyyyyyyy huh? It is not. What protocol forbids it? It can trigger mania in some people but there is no law preventing someone diagnosed with bipolar disorder to take zoloft. Some people take it with a mood stabilizer. And what is your point anyway? The doctor talking in this video is not a prescriber, she's a psychologist.

It's weird that they always prescribed people with a midlife crisis as bipolar. I took psychology classes for a bit because I thought that was the route I wanted to take and all you learn is different diagnosis all day long. It's no longer about understanding the human mind and humans think and work.

This is, hands-down, the most fair and comprehensive doc on this subject I have ever seen. You found such articulate and educated people to share their stories. Angie is going to be a great help to other people. Not anti-med, just INFORMED. I think that's peak wisdom.
