Dear Sir, I just managed to see this comment of yours. I am a professional Australian keyboard-player of many years. George is probably my #1 influence. A "beyond great" musician, and a wonderful human being. I met him in 2004 in Tokyo. It was a very emotional moment. Best regards to you, Kind regards, Sam McNally.
I met George in 1977 when i really didn't kniw much about him. I working at the College radio station and all of upper class guys were so excited because George Duke was stopping our Station. WREK. Alternative and Esoteric playlist and George's music frequently in the rotation. He came in smiling and happy. Made us radio Geeks smile un Awe. He was a big slender dude in the 70s. Very cool man. RIP..
Mr Duke !!! We miss you in Oakland Ca when you use to play free concerts down by Jack London Square. Rip along with you wife!! You and her are finally back together again.🎼🎼🎼🎼😎
George, the consummate egalitarian, gives everyone in his band a chance to shine and boy, can they shine! All of them are fantastic musicians and I really love how tight they play together. He is so sadly missed.
George Duke, thank you for bringing back beautiful memories of my brother David Donia, Bassman, Stockton CA RIP - he left your name to me before he passed. I loved funk, so he left me a goldmine. Dropped your name to me. I thought I knew the funkiest, because i was older. Wrong, now I know what he meant and left for me to listen to. Brother Dave told me this is the most bad ass funk that anyone could admire. So true.... Stop the Wars.... listen to the music. A better idea, right?:
George was a Great artist and composer. Saw him back in the 90’s and I was floored by his stage presence and his playing ability. I always loved his music, but seeing him perform it live was a pure joy. Lee Rit is also a master of his instrument. This is how music is performed. Pure unadulterated skill, passion and fun! RIP George “Dukey Stick” Duke.
All these good musicians.. you have many concerts in the States, often in Asia..sometimes in Europe (Montreaux) and seldom in Germany... but i was lucky to see Lee Ritenour and Dave Grusin here in Berlin... I don't care the charts.. This is music, these are musicians !!!
I just smile. World class musicianship. and a big piece of that musicianship died with George Duke. It's just so sad. R.I.P George, truly missed in action.
Oh Gott, George Duke..... bist so gut... für mich der !!! Keyboarder !!! Ich liebe seine musik..... Von Zappa bis hierhin... schade das er nicht mehr lebt... sehr schade !!!
Last certainly not least I truly love this song T Jam amazing the rhythm arrangements, vocals, and real live instrumentation which is what's missing today. Ppl want to hear real musicianship, real live singers no sequencers, or click tracks just real plain good old fashioned live performances so that the audience can feel the emotions that are coming out of the recording artist hearts 💕 and interacting with them with the call and response from the crowd.
This is one of mentors that inspired me on keyboard and key-tar. This jam is so funky. George Duke never put on a bad concert and would leave you worn out.
I had the privilege of seeing the legendary George Duke along with another legend Stanley Clarke perform in San Diego. I remember Mr. Duke said while doing his hit "Sweet Baby" that he couldn't hit his famous falsetto due to them touring and he lost his voice. Man I felt so cheated!! Stanley Clarke threw down though!! Still a great show.
Sitting here almost in tears, hate I never made it to any of his live shows so thank you to all that post his videos. Miss you, rest peacefully sir. George Duke.
Ron on drums.... I mean, come on! Dude was pure fire throughout the performance. The hi-hat work alone is next-level. And the sound of that snare is on par with Teddy Campbell's "Trust" showcase! We're not worthy!
Couldn't believe my eyes and my ears...the giant of guitar, the modest, humble, kindred and soulful gentle spirit of Mr Jef Lee Johnson - Blessed Be amongst the Greatests - forgotten standing bored on an ampli. Never had anything against Mr Lee Ritenour, a very talented musician; Mr. Jef Lee Johnson belongs to a different league and I wish I had never seen him relegated to a such a pitiful role.
Music is life!!!!! We are immortal by playing and listening to such works!!!!! Музыка- это жизнь!!!!! Мы бессмертны, играя и слушая такие произведения!!!!!
The late George Duke was born in San Rafael and raised in Marin City, a community near Saucelito, California, a few miles north of San Francisco. This man was a brilliant musician, composer and a hit making producer. RIP
Wonderful i had the Pleasure to see George Duke twice in 77 with Billy Cobham and Alphonso Johnson then 30 years later with Stanley Clarke and Ronald Brunnell Great Shows with Stanley very funny also George told a story with his playing went down to the floor in theatric tears Stanley said oh Lord George get up off the floor great shows wonderful musician and better man RIP Mr. George Duke
T-Jam... Great tune-in memory of my friend Eric Nance.. In 2006, we were playing the DUKE CD and this cut was playing while driving on 101 into San Fran via the Golden Gate Bridge in a convertible with top down!! You can't let the top up driving as the climate is changing.. Lol We were coming upto pay the toll-once-we paid the toll, you pulled over to let the top up!!! As other convertibles were doing the same thing!! It's 2018, I miss my friend Eric Nance Peace
I saw him and Stanley in Broad Ripple (Indy) outdoors a few months before he passed. One of my all time favs. I first heard "Feel" in 1974 and was hooked on the Dukey Stick!
When he first came onto the scene he was out of control. The skill was obviously there, but the musicality was a bit lacking. Now to see what he developed into is astounding. The complete package as a drummer.
Je ne sais plus combien de fois j'ai regardé ce T-Jam, chaque fois j'ai le même plaisir!

I've never seen a photo or a video where George wasn't smiling. He always had a good time and when I listen to him I still do, too.

The Duke brand of jazz funk. It gets no better than that. Duke was the master.
