This version of Cantaloupe is absolutely the best version of Cantaloup. Wayne and Stanley's solos are just amazing. Omar Hakim is just one of the best drummer and Herbie is just the killer piano player and composer. Amazing musicians, amazing performance one of the best live performance I've ever heard.
I agree! It can resuscitate the dead 🤣! They are all amazing! What a privilege for those who were in the audience! I can't believe any human being can achieve such level of perfection. It was the first time I saw Omar Hakim. The guy seems to have 4 arms like Indian gods! At one point I couldn't work out how the vortex of sound coming out of his drum was possible with only two arms and two feet 😂!
Love the way Wayne Shorter sets up a suicidal staccato motif and follows it for better or worse. He is the ultimate artist constantly pursuing his limits.
The fact that it moves you is all that matters. One can't make any assumptions [or at least l can't] about folks who don't care about this, or aren't moved by it. OR have never heard it at all. They are probably into a completely different thing. God save their souls!!
I heard my uncle Melvin Ragin aka Wah Wah Watson say that Herbie will never a play a song the same way ever, in a good way!! RIP to Wah Wah Watson and Wayne Shorter!!!!!
Amazing. This is a great example of Solid collaboration. Love to all whom view this. these moments in time help us remember why we love music. All my relations.
I really enjoyed watching the wide-eyed facial expressions of the drummer (looking at Herbie) several minutes into the video. These guys are super tight and jammed like a tsunami in high gear!
ok I just listened to the freddie hubbard version w ron carter but I was wrong this one is the one the most the best the most correct from every channel...
They are different versions. Freddie Hubbard is simply amazing. Here there is no trumpet but Wayne Shorter is as good as Freddie at his saxophone. Geniuses! Do you know of any version where these two play together?
Absolutely Flawless! Herbie - is a fantastic man and his band, of course! In my opinion - He was half a century ahead of most musicians in very high quality, mature and, at the same time, delicate jazz and music at all! He had anticipated and paradoxically used in his compositions, yet back in the 70s, the sounds & rhythms, which only later would appear in such styles as funk, house, jazzy house, breakdance and even somewhere techno. What is more important - his performing sounds modern! From Moscow with Love!
This definitely has that wild, exotic island feel that I really love for Cantaloupe Island. The live version with Herbie, Joe Henderson and Freddie Hubbard captures a lot of that, as well.
that was one fired up jazz crowd
Jazzed up
That's how it should be m8.. love to see it!
what a time to be alive
RIP Wayne Shorter, thank you so much for everything you did, legend ❤️
He can't read this.
@@stuwest3653 Nah, he can't read much anymore tbh :/
Truly legendary

It was a pretty darn good performance indeed!
I also really like the El Chicano version
this may be my favorite jazz performance ever
Also jeff gilfblums one is great highly recommend
The one with Herbie and Pat is so good.
My favorite rendition is the one Herbie did for Blue Note's anniversary with Freddie Hubbard and Joe Henderson.
This is the most energetic jazz performance I've ever seen! Its freaking amazing!!!

Love the facial expressions. Herbie is just like, "what are my hands doing?!?!"
FOUR of the best musicians on this planet playing a classic song! R.I.P Wayne Shorter!
Amazing!
Love the way Wayne Shorter sets up a suicidal staccato motif and follows it for better or worse. He is the ultimate artist constantly pursuing his limits.
"suicidal staccato motif". Brilliant!
Big facts, such a great description. Always diving off the edge
He's a bigger douche than Gary Moore. Just doesn't know when to finally shut up.
WAYNE ON SOPRANO
ha! was thinking exact same thing
Totally can imagine that the rest didn't know what song Herbie was about to play, recognized it, and started improvising
The drums guy is a genius
One of the greats. Nobody sounds like Omar 👍
That intro was so dope
Wayne blowing straight fire . We shall miss you dearly.
I've probably watched this 30 times. But when Omar lets loose is epic every time
I love seeing people doing what they are excellent in what they do.Herbie and his pals are damn good.
Herbie Hancock I've been listening to his "Genius",since I was 20 ,A native NewYorker now 70 living in Fla Chick Corea, Larry Coryell ❤❤❤!!!
Herbie Hancock
Stanley Clarke
Wayne Shorter
Omar Hakim
No need to say more... just listen!!!!
Pure perfection, no one can do what Wayne Shorter does here…
Phucking phenomenal!
Just beautiful!
Who wouldn't love this infectious rythym and acrobatic jazz ♥️
I was there with my husband AMAZING PLAY
One of the best live performances in our life
I wish i was there seeing legendary pianist herbie playing live!!
@@TalhaVocoding It was so AMAZINGLY GOOD 🤩
Omar on the drums is in love. Wayne killing the Sop Sax, Stanley destroying the Bass as usual and Herbie is in heaven lol!
How is not more popular. Wait. People aren't as intelligent as I give them credit for. This moves me.
The fact that it moves you is all that matters. One can't make any assumptions [or at least l can't] about folks who don't care about this, or aren't moved by it. OR have never heard it at all. They are probably into a completely different thing. God save their souls!!

4 INCREDIBLE superstars on the same stage.✌️✌️✌️
DEAR LORD imagine Omar Hakim playing in a fast and technical metal band. That solo was immaculate.
He would fit well in Meshuggah, Lamb of God or Gojira😂😂😂
Check out Omar jamming in "I Burn for you" ('85) with Sting.
Thank you for giving me life force from the melodies played by legendary heroes.
haha I could watch that competition between Stanley and Omar thousands of times and not get tired of it
Awesome thank you all of you. Herbie Hancock live under the sky 91
Insanely exceptional performance of those 4!
Omar Hakim is amazing!
Greg Greenlee you got that right one of my favorite drummers the stuff he did
With weather report
Yep. Remember watching this on TV
Amazing. This is a great example of Solid collaboration. Love to all whom view this. these moments in time help us remember why we love music. All my relations.
I was watching this magic, and in the middle of the video, I get a Masterclass ad for none other than Herbie Hancock. XD
It just happened to me too!! "You prolly wonda how do I do that?" xD
This must be one of the best sets in Jazz history. Omar s performance here is superlative
One of the best live Stanley Clarke performances. He's enjoying it as much as we are
God bless that bassist, he's going INSANE with that slap!!! GORGEUS!!
Check out Marcus Miller if you haven't already, that dude slaps like a god
His Name is Stanley Clarke !!!
I really enjoyed watching the wide-eyed facial expressions of the drummer (looking at Herbie) several minutes into the video. These guys are super tight and jammed like a tsunami in high gear!
Herbie is like a magician, comic, and highly skilled doctor of jazz piano performance, all rolled into one fantastic, wonderful persona.
+John Anderson and so with his son : Joey Alexander
This sing is so good. Son unique and timeless. One of my favorite jazz pieces
What a beautiful audience!
This is true musical understanding, genius, and technical ability colliding
ok I just listened to the freddie hubbard version w ron carter but I was wrong this one is the one the most the best the most correct from every channel...
Kenneth I just heard that version....ooooo it's so good..but they were playing to different audiences
They are different versions. Freddie Hubbard is simply amazing. Here there is no trumpet but Wayne Shorter is as good as Freddie at his saxophone. Geniuses! Do you know of any version where these two play together?
Herbie captured something in that intro that I want to hear composed into a full song.
The closest I've been to heaven. Masterpiece!
That Herbie intro - genius and hilarious at the same time!
! R.I.P Wayne Shorter! magick voyage.
The battle between Stanley & Omar, the way Omar slips into a trance and the energy build up from the audience are all mesmerizing!
omg that introduction was pure fire, the crowd showed it too, awesome atmosphere.
Wow ! 😮 extraordinarios músicos, talentosos 🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤🎉 Love Herbie 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
the solo of herbie is so amazing!!
They just look like they're all having so much fun !!!
This just may be the most incredible arrangement of music I’ve heard in my lifetime. Wow!
When every band member is at the top of their craft you get this..... Perfection.
a joy to watch.... can't help but laugh too
I am a bit late to the game but the level of musicianship is out of this world
Imagine how I feel
Having hughy as your photo makes me think u lieing, u not listen to the jazz cuts in boondocks? Shits Hancock and Bill Evans type shit lol
I love how the band members look at him like "herbie wtf are you doing?" Lmao
James Radway spontaneous creation, the advantage of jazz.
I love how they're like, "Oh shit, that's what it's gonna be like, huh?" like he's throwing down a gauntlet
Especially Freddie, who seems to be thinking:
"Where's Herbie going with this? Okay if he wants to do E Flat, I'll play along"
Think it more like wtf is he gunna do so I can get in on it!!!😁👍
Thats de usual way to play together, ays contact 🎹🎷🥁🎸💪🏽😎
the best
The crowd is great!
I Love this song. One of the best version Cantaloupe Island.
This is the absolute best version of Cantaloupe Island I've heard yet. An unreal combination of dedicated artists. How can you beat this combination?
The intro is out of this world
omg Stanley Clarke was 40 ! he looks like 20 years old :o
No matter which iteration is played, I still love this song
Please, our Almighty God forgive and accept Wayne Shorter and all the deceased people's spirits.Amen.
Having a new appreciation for the communication.
Amazing the fun they have in playing. The signature of great musicians : they never stop watching at each other
No matter how many times I watch this it never gets old! Its GREAT!

I love Freddie Hubbard ❤ so soulful. This version is also amazing
Rarely an inspired level of communication between legends like this one. Pure communication. Pure joy.
Probably one of the highest standards of music I’ve ever seen
He b slaping
this is simply incredible, i keep coming back to it all the time
wow !!! All i can say is wow.
That bass solo, oh my gosh

ARTISTS LIKE THESE SHOULD NEVER DIE!
Wayne Shorter 's is incendiary!🎷🎺🎹🎸🎻🥁🎼🎵🎶🎧
Thanks guys! RIP Mr. Shorter!🌱
This is just a phenomenal piece of music
Hakim is the kind of drummer that is so advanced, he makes other drummers want to quit playing..........Unbelievable talent!!!
Herbie is ONE with the keyboard 😊
didn't knew the drummer Omar..man, he's a beast! Loved the whole vídeo, thanks for the upload!
Welcome to Omar Hakim's world!
13:23 Holly shit man, that was super smooth
