  • In this video I briefly show how I clean the chain on my Honda CB1100. I was in the middle of an oil change and as is tradition, while the oil drains I clean my chain.
I use WD-40 to clean the chain and Motul lubricating oil to lube it.
WD-40 is not a lubricant! It's a solvent, kerosene based I'm pretty sure. You need to wipe it off and lube the chain after using. There are numerous places you can go online for information about it but you can safely ignore anyone who screams about not using WD-40 on your bike's chains. That's an old wive's tale.
In between major cleanings I tend to just lubricate the chain if it's looking okay.

I stopped using a grunge brush. I think it tears up the orings. My chains lasted much longer when I did. I use a spray on chain cleaner seems to remove everything. I have also used kerosene, works great also.

How many miles do you or did you go before cleaning chain?

MemphisMike maybe every 500 miles? I'm not very fastidious about it honestly.

CA is very dusty, if I don't I start to forget my chain isn't supposed to be black.

Haha they say WD40 degrades the O-rings? Guess I shouldn't tell anyone i use straight kerosene to clean mine.

People love to believe all the myths they hear online and then take it as gospel. Kerosene works great, but I always have WD-40 more handy.
