Got your quick compounding/polisher set up for next to nothing. This is what your channel is all about, cheap and cheerful do it yourself videos. Think you did a wonderful job mate, dont mind any haters most people would take a glance and think how nice your car looks mate. Great content as usual!

I used to do it for a living in the early 1980s. I was taught by three foreign guys who could hardly speak a word of English. They were good. They could turn an old porsche into a hot car in no time! They knew how to make money. Similar to what you did there. I enjoyed that video. It was really good that!

StevenWillox I agree. It’s NOT a DA. I’m talking through an orifice! You can tell by the size of the neck. Their smaller powered one is a DA. I bought the 1200W version, which was only a few £s more, but it’s the one in this video, ie NOT a DA.

PLEASE READ- I've been doing this for many years so a piece of advice folks...mask up the front of the lower end curve on the bonnet where/if there are any stone chips as those chips will get much bigger when buffing. After waxing leave it to set (sounds strange but true) for a month then wax it again it'll build up a great shine....then after another month use the Autoglym Ultra gloss guys and girls and boy will it give a shine! The result will be really glossy/shiny as you wouldn't believe as it'll look like you sprayed laqueur on it....i was amazed when i did my car with Autoglym ultra gloss just once and i did it 3 times so far in 3 months. You need to leave the Ultra gloss on the paint for 45 mins in warmish weather but NOT in direct sun then wipe off...it'll smell strong when applying it so you have been warned....then after another month (seriously) apply another coat of Ultra gloss. You'll have a smile from ear to ear and shame up all your friends with a gleaming showroom shine.

When one's cars polished it's much more difficult to scratch with a key or by stones chipping the paint by getting a hold in the paint work rather than deflecting, it stays cleaner longer because the dirt and bird muck doesn't stick so easily and it becomes so much easier and faster to wash by hand. Some polishes help protect against sunlight and chemicals as well.

Nice video. One thing I would do different, good or bad - idk, when I decontaminate with clay I think its more efficient to NOT use anything with wax or sealant as a clay lube. In theory, you will get better results because you won't clog up the pores on your polishing pads with the wax you just applied and will get a better cut and finish from your pads. Also, a dual action machine is so much safer. Keep it up, thanks for adding to the community.

well done, good job. like you i used to do it all by hand, then 8 years ago i bought a 27 foot sailing boat,
the first year i cut and polished by hand and it nearly killed me, was like polishing 2 transit vans
so bought a polisher similar to yours and makes like so much easier. still took 2 to 3 days, but didnt kill me.
but now sold the boat and bought a harley........ less area to keep clean. keep up the great videos

Thanks for the video. I’ve been watching detailing videos all winter long trying to gain some knowledge of just what is needed in both equipment and skill to get a vehicle looking nice.
Your video is one of the few where-as you admit that you have no experience in detailing a vehicle and are going to jump right in.
I think I now have the confidence to just do it.
BTW- I’m in Nebraska USA so where I live all you really can get done in the winter is just to keep the road salt off.
Now that it’s almost April the weather is warming up which allows for outside vehicle work to be done.

Great effort for a beginner, mate. Be careful about dirty clay bars which can cause more paint problems than they solve. Use flat and keep turning it to ensure always clean. I’d recommend Autoglym Magma to deal with iron contaminants too as clay bar good for sap but not iron. And separate your cleaning products! Enjoyed your post.

Only problem I did have was the compound was flung all over the car in a fine mist - not sure if this is too much compound/polish or my machine was running too fast. Might help to mask off areas not being polished - but Thanks for posting

Wow very nice especially for the first time detailing the outside of a car on paint work it’s not easy. And using a Rotary buffer for detailing the pain for your first time is awesome. I did not learn on that island on the DA. Which means dual action buffer and you could hold a thing in one spot for like a minute and it won’t burn the paint. Great job and great video in your car looks much better congratulations.

Good effort for your first time and you started with the hardest machine to learn the rotary. Get yourself a dual action polisher and you will find it much easier for learning and you won't damage the paint. Rotary polishers you need to be carefull around edges as they generate alot more heat and its easier to burn through the clearcoat if your not careful. But good effort non the less fella.

Can you link the polisher? Been toying with the idea of buying one for a few years now.

Fair play to you mate, doesn’t seem that hard. How much pressure with the buffers you reckon you put on?

Let it glide and move by its self and normal pressure nothing hard. do not work in the curves hard and follow the paintwork

Nice video. Gives me confidence to give it a go. I would have like to see the end results of the entire car with a before and after but I get the gist.

    James you have done well.
You can see the detailing in the brick work from the house on the bonnet. Go to the roof and it’s blurry with no detailing
