If you don't know what the regen paddles do, you really shouldn't review the car... And complaining the looks of this and then going for a Tesla? Seriously? ROFL. Teslas are pretty much the ugliest cars around.
It is small inside and have small windows etc for safety in a crash. More space to absorb crash energy and smaller windows is safer because windows doesn't protect as well for intruding objects as the rest of the body. Mercedes-Benz prioritizes safety very much and even has a crash investigation team.
@@srbs73 well I can’t speak for Mercedes, but Tesla use almost no cobalt in their batteries, and will be making cobalt free batteries. But you own a mobile phone right? Or a laptop? Or ever flown on a plane?

I think one thing worth mentioning is how cheap an eV is to run. My golf costs me £13 or less per 1000 miles OR LESS, or sometimes it's free or even sometimes I'm paid to charge it. But that's secondary. this gives me so much much more to spend on my weekend car. So as a daily driver it makes a big difference to my weekend wallet. (was running an x5 before)
I’ve just leased one of these because for the price they are now they are a FANTASTIC car, to put in perspective i picked one up for the same price i paid for an i3 2 years ago. and this superior in every way. For the recent commenters who don’t usually watch TGE this is an overly negative and not one of his best reviews but you can see that’s coming from his high expectations. When this car was released studies showed that people wanted their EVS to look more like normal cars (which is why BMW started designing EVs that looked normal at this exact time). The car is an electric GLC if you want an EV that doesn’t look too wild and is incredibly comfortable and fast this is the one for you… I agree with TGE that although its very fast its not a car you’ll be hooning around in (I tried and it and it doesn’t feel safe using the max power of this car), because comfort is the priority you can’t feel the road and and the weight makes the stopping distance more than you might be used to in a combustion car with the same performance specs, combine all those factors and you could easily end up in a ditch if you’re careful. It should be driven like a range rover, it wafts exceptionally well and power should be reserved for straight lines only!
They usually put paddles on the steering wheel to adjust the amount of regenerative braking you want. Bit like do you want it to feel like a one pedal vehicle.
Was surprised you did not know what paddles are for after having for a week. You never mentioned what sort of kwph your getting. Did you use the app pre heat cabin before you got in it. Because it's based on the glc but the batteries are on the bottom, the side windows are lower than the inside door frame, once you see it, it looks absolutely ridiculous, that's why one thinks the glass is massive on the outside.
Everyone was busy slating the likes of Tesla, mocking them, joking about them, no one will ever want that whilst we sell superior cars, And then Tesla and others started making moves and doing well and even the energy companies started getting on board and the technology was moving at light speed, The big manufacturers got left behind and now they are scrambling to get in on the hype and it’s too late. This was there chance to do something great and instead they half arsed it.
I can understand what your saying about Windows and being able to see out to change lanes etc. I don't like wheels, I think slope in the back isnt flattering. For the price they are trying to compete with tesla model Y. Not even close
Nice honest review lad. And you're not alone because where I live they really aren't selling. It's so bad that they stopped publishing the sales numbers. For references in the first couple months they didn't even sell 100
What you are looking for is the EQS. Thats gonna be a really revolutionary vehicle. You actually quickly understood what the EQC is. Its just an electric GLC. And I actually like that. Most EVs try to be too modern etc. The EQC is just a regular car thats electric and just their first try and I actually think they just put it out there to have an electric vehicle on the market until the EQS is coming. They probably didnt plan it this way and wanted the EQS to be their first EV, but then realized that people are expecting them to have an EV in their portfolio earlier. They are also already testing the next gen EQC which is gonna replace this one next year.

The Merc/BMW/Audi collective have a very definite strategy with the vast majority of their electric vehicles, to make them look like their mainstream models or derivatives. Used potential buyer here, and I'm absolutely loving the used prices great depreciation and still under warranty.grab yourself a bargain!!! .I feel this guy has drove so many cars he has very high expectations nobody's coming from a range rover to a eqc, minor gripe ur winging for 2 mins straight, no one wants a space age electric vehicle they want a normal car with electric engine, spent a week with the car he didn't even know what the paddle.shifters were for its for braking regenerating the battery, his obviously got other priorities, he doesn't understand maximum.range mode, you need to put yourself in the shoes of the daily consumer such as a father with 2 kids....its not supposed to be a blown away type of feeling, my first electric car will be this...yes its an issue on your part mate! Tiff from 5th gear is an excellent car reviewer he likes the car enough said!.
The forthcoming Mercedes EQS saloon is a better comparison to the Tesla Model S saloon you are thinking of. And for some balance....not mentioned is Tesla slow repairs, noisier buggier cars with some surprisingly undeveloped tech like their basic headlights and frost-prone doors and missing Apple carplay/Android Auto and stiff suspension Tesla suv model type the Model Y also has letterbox rear window. Anyway the Mercedes has 360 degree birds eye view option so visibility much less of a problem. Tesla does not even have this as an option Tesla suv aesthetics is like an uncosy 1 star hotel room "you get a tv". It also has plastic gear stick (copied from Mercedes). And less privacy Tesla acceleration is far better if comparing Mercedes AMG *trim* line (not "real" AMG) to Tesla Plaid, and eventually can bring driveline shudder. Tesla range is also better for equivalent suvs but generally only means stopping for a charge 2 times instead of 3 on the odd long journey
Na - it`s not really a petrol car turned into an EV. It`s constructed from the start to take both options so you can produce it on the same assembly line. That`s a different thing. - Mercedes has that kind of EVs to react flexible to the demand and they have pure EVs which come from another specialized production line. Those are the models that get presented now and you can see Journalists test driving in camouflage (three different models).
Im concidering getting this but this has really put me off from getting it. I have a 2019 C-class now and Im disappointed by the visibility I get outside. Its mid sized car and pilars are massive and you have to really stretch to see outside. The worst thing was almost caused a terrible accident with a family. I honestly couldnt see them at all an ran right infront of them. I pulled over to a shop and the guy driving came up to me and was pretty upset. After that I was scared to go to that interection and spend a lot of time looking around when stopping at it. I also want more boot space and an EV. I dont really know what to buy.
Finally someone addresses that cramped feeling in this car. I got it for a full day test drive, and everyone who rode in the car with me felt slightly nauseous and was pretty stressed out - that cabin does not feel right. From the outside, it's freakin amazing. But that interior needs a lot of work before I'd get one.
Whether you feel it's cramped & claustrophobic or snug & cozy is a matter of prejudice. I'm for the latter and I'll add the word sporty to describe the snuggy feel of it.
This car is an absolute joke. The whole interior sits higher because they shoved a battery in a GLC. Their solution? Put a black band on the windows so the people don't see the trim sticking out. But wait it gets better, you mentionned it feels heavy on the nose. The (GLC) engine compartment has place for a much larger combustion engine, which is an important peace of crash protection. Their solution, put a bullbar around the engine to have some protection and fill the gap. Result, way too heavy on the nose. The most important part is charging at home, it charges at 7,..kW/h, an Audi E-tron does that 50% faster at 11kW. Just to be clear, the E-tron has its own electric platform.
EQC weight distribution is front 48%, rear 52%; so heavier in the back of the car (not the front engine bay). And both EQC and Etron will charge overnight at home

Who are you talking to? 😂 Good luck with buying one. It’s one of the worst electric cars you can buy. Enjoy.
I'm talking to people who read the comments not you as your the kind of guy not to give a fuck....thanks for the luck.
He is right it looked cramped inside
The forthcoming Mercedes EQS saloon is a better comparison to the Tesla Model S saloon you are thinking of.
And for some balance....not mentioned is Tesla slow repairs, noisier buggier cars with some surprisingly undeveloped tech like their basic headlights and frost-prone doors and missing Apple carplay/Android Auto and stiff suspension
Tesla suv model type the Model Y also has letterbox rear window. Anyway the Mercedes has 360 degree birds eye view option so visibility much less of a problem. Tesla does not even have this as an option
Tesla suv aesthetics is like an uncosy 1 star hotel room "you get a tv". It also has plastic gear stick (copied from Mercedes). And less privacy
Tesla acceleration is far better if comparing Mercedes AMG *trim* line (not "real" AMG) to Tesla Plaid, and eventually can bring driveline shudder.
Where can I listen or watch the podcast?
Search on literally any platform for Drivel TGE
Seen one of these at work tonight
Finally someone addresses that cramped feeling in this car. I got it for a full day test drive, and everyone who rode in the car with me felt slightly nauseous and was pretty stressed out - that cabin does not feel right. From the outside, it's freakin amazing. But that interior needs a lot of work before I'd get one.
So called car journalists, none of them sussed it :)
Whether you feel it's cramped & claustrophobic or snug & cozy is a matter of prejudice. I'm for the latter and I'll add the word sporty to describe the snuggy feel of it.
What are the flappy paddles for??
Regen!
MB's other "first forays into electric vehicles: B250/B Class Electric, all 550e's, and pretty much all of tesla car's parts except for the badge.
outro song name please
After a horrible trial driving experience of Model Y, then I bought a EQC 400 China version.
Can you please give us your review 2 years later😊
You ain't got a clue what you are talking about.
@@ADY99ish Tell me what’s wrong about these FACTS I mentioned. I work in the automotive industry and have driven both.
EQC weight distribution is front 48%, rear 52%; so heavier in the back of the car (not the front engine bay). And both EQC and Etron will charge overnight at home
Have you seen the EQC 4x4? looks much better
With all the bingos, bells and whistles merc put on this, sometimes less is more and Tesla embodies that , minimalistic interface but functional.
Yes TGE TV, sorted 👍
That sun is chaos
Nice rant I enjoyed.
Who needs 'Autocar' with reviews like this?
This is actually a good consumer advice video. 👏
Jack of all trades me 🤪
