The most underrated EV? Mercedes EQC review

  • Mercedes is the oldest, and possibly the most prestigious car maker in the world - so we were surprised how little fanfare there was when it released its very first mass-produced EV last year: the EQC. Jack spent some time with one on a classically British day to find out why the EQC gets so little attention.

    Fully agree with the review! I have one since 10 months and I love it! The car is so criticized by car journalists or TH-camrs, but they seem to forget that in the real world this is a fantastic everyday car even though it was not designed as an EV from scratch.

    • @whitecrowuk575
      @whitecrowuk575 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      The gripe with it is that indeed wasn’t designed as EV from scratch which is mind boggling that they didn’t call it GLC 300e or something - giving it brand new name and yet keeping 70% of existing car is bad. Biggest problem I have is transmission tunnel - absolutely not necessary in EVs and one of the biggest advantages of having one - yet they did not bother to remove it. And if you consider astronomical price - that’s outrageous. Resale value will be worse than others as it’s simply too expensive and not that practical.

    • @MrENRGIE
      @MrENRGIE 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@whitecrowuk575 Price wise it cheaper than a similar Etron and cheaper to buy and to run than a GLC 43 that is not equipped with the latest MBUX (at least when I bought it) and is more powerful. In the end, to me it is a very likable car and I do not feel that I wasted money. Removing the transmission tunnel would have been a plus but not at all critical for my needs.

    • @whitecrowuk575
      @whitecrowuk575 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MrENRGIE All in all it is appealing car, by all means, even though it is just slight visual change compared to GLC - if they gave it more space inside and boot i would consider. In UK it costs 73k which doesn't make sense - economy saving does not justify spending nearly 30k extra compared to GLC 300d - that is insane if you consider all of that together. That comparison would not happen if EQC was entirely different - but it isnt therefore it is compared

    What a great review and to be fair a generally good set of comments. I take delivery of my EQC tomorrow and having read most, if not all of the reviews on TH-cam, none have managed to put me off, not for even a second. This will be my first Merc. and so looking forward to it. Perhaps worth adding that I have a Golf R to take care of the child in me and the need to drive fast and furious along narrow country lanes.

      @@olgatty I love it. Fantastic car. It has all the familiarity of the GLC but more luxurious, smoother, quieter. Love all the dashboard options and how I can monitor my eco use. The test drive proved to be a true representation of what it is like once I actually got mine and was using it. I’ve had it 15 months now. Have a charging point at home so easy to keep charged. Only time of anxiety was a trip away where I needed to charge en-route so suffered a bit of range anxiety but in the end it wasn’t a problem. I don’t regret going full electric.

Can you keep your foot light on the current gas pedal to achieve the specified projected mileage? Have you ever used a handbrake on a slope? Do you indicate before pulling away from the curb? If you answer NO to any of these questions you really need all the help you can get, you need a high IQ vehicle - preferably EV.
