Today I start the modification project on my new pelican bass raider 10e
I found this boat online and bought it used to do some single or two person fishing
in the lakes near my home , most of which do not allow gas motors for travel
Join me as I show you the second Mod I'll be doing to this boat -
We will go over my Battery choice , battery housing, and charger choice
and lastly my transom mount trolley motor ... I also take her out for the first time

I bought one a week ago. If it helps anyone the inline fuse pelican has is a glass fuse. It gave me trouble after 2 hours. Replace with the plastic fuse holder. Trolling motor extension handles are the best. It is a small boat but fishes like a BIG BOAT!

It's pretty nifty , I really like that it has breakers built in ... I know a fella that had a bad short circuit cause of a mouse chewing cord and fried his fish finder

Nice video Big D. My wife just sold her first items on Mercari! I Love the Minn Kota power center. I bought an extension handle for the trolling motor out of Wal Mart for about $30.

Me too man , Im a big guy also and its pretty stable at current state , I can stand and fish on it ... its a bit wobbly when I try to move around but im getting use to it still
Yeah it's good I weigh 280 and its a great boat,it's good for 2 skinny dudes or a hefty dude and child lol
Me and my dad will fish in one together, both of us are about 300 and it works fine but if we don’t sit in the right places to balance it right it gets a bit sketchy. When I take it out myself its perfect for me.

Great set up I have one also but my trolling motor is a minkoda 70 lb foot control 24vt. With myself 300lb and my father 140lbs it gets us around pretty good

Hey Big-D, People call me Big-D too because they don't want to use my full name if you know what I mean. LOL I was looking to find what others in our size range do to compensate for the wobble when trying to stand. I put in a 1/2 inch plywood floor and rubber coated it with Plasti-Dip. Then installed a kayak track the full length so I could attach a NuCanoe Pursuit stand up bar without drilling any holes. Now this 60+ year old can stand and fish without falling out of the boat.

I think i may put my battery in the front to help distribute weight. I am about the same size as you. One thing i would suggest for the box is to use a ratchet strap of your own, instead of the provided strap. Like you said, they wear quick. Hat to have the battery drop out while carrying. Appreciate the video! I subscribed 👍

Nice video. You'll gain your "sea legs" before you know it. I grew up on shrimp boats, and did some surfing, and a lot of skateboarding in my younger days. If I may offer a tip...bend your legs slightly, and let your knees be your shock absorbers. I'm about 250#, and I've watched a lot of modification videos, and am considering getting one, and putting a Seamax 65# thrust on it, due to the windy conditions here on the Texas gulf coast, and the Seamax motors can handle the salt water. Fishing_With_BIG-D your very welcome. Watching this series make me want one of those boats even more. I wish i could trade in my yak for one lol. I can’t complain about the yak, it was one of my birthday gifts a few years ago.
I would put the battery in front using the front battery connection , then you could sit closer to the motor

You can also make a trolling motor extension handle out of some pvc pipe and paint it black will work great and cost next to nothing

The mini Kota now comes w built in extension now I believe so u can reach motor better

I do, just because I think the propeller would hit the pontoons when sharp turns are made .... but I've had it out 5 times now and it does really well man and moves the boat good
A 36" would work, since you can adjust the depth of the motor/prop, but your control head will sit a little lower.
@@raymondwilcox4997 , it would work just sits real low like you said , and a little uncomfortable bending that low at least for me ... but an excellent affordable boat
Where did you put the battery charger?
I left mine outside the boat , in my garage setup
Anyone ever run the trolling motor from.the front on theirs?
Yes you can , most people get a foot control unit to bass fish with but they also make a conversion kit for a hand driven unit ... you just have to make sure you have enough clearance from the bottom of the boat
I just bypassed my box's 60 amp and just used my heavy duty one alrady installed on my boat. Plus NO cigarette lighters will fit into their 2 outlets. Thsize is 21.45mm and lighters, all, are 20.42mm.

As a bigger guy myself, does the boat support your weight well?
Yes sir , I'm pushing 450 lbs maybe a little more with myself and all the gear and I can still stand in it and fish and maneuver around pretty well
my strap is about to give out on this thing so I'm afraid when I pick it up that i'm gonna crush my foot... other than that it's been great.

Yes I've had a time with this covid crap going on ... but also having trouble with the normal process as well
very useful data. I am 6'1" and 174 lbs. I think your set up would fit me well. BTW... go to Dr Ken Berry's page, go Keto, your fishing will go better in that short boat. Again, good post, good data. I am going to get one.
