What is so impressive is this album came out the same year they released 5 albums. All to such a high quality and all so unique. What a creative force this band is
@Harry Wful I concur, "Changes" is yet another fine album. I think I like "Ice, Death, Planets, Lungs, Mushrooms And Lava" a bit more, but I have listened to "Changes" twice so far, so I might end up liking it more with a few more listens...we'll see. Either way, everything they have released this year has been great, so I expect nothing different going forward. KGLW is a great, unique, and hella-prolific band.
The "Hello" you heard at the end is the character known as Han-Tyumi, one of many characters that Gizz have created throughout their discography, I'd recommend listening to the album Murder of the Universe if you'd like to get some background on him, additionally that record is story telling at its best!
I've seen them live last week in Montreal and they did Crumbling Castle immediately followed by The Fourth Colour and it was one of the most exciting live experiences of my life. The whole show was stellar and I highly recommend you go see them next time they play near you. They never do the same setlist twice so you never know what you're going to get. Be sure to check out their latest album, Changes, coming out today. Their 23rd album in 10 years.
Tetrachromacy is referring to what you can see in the visible light spectrum. Certain animals like birds and caribou can see parts of the color spectrum we simply can not and this song ties into the overall theme present in a lot of the songs from King Gizz of transcending your humanity to become immortal. This is a huge theme in the "Gizzverse".
You need to do Murder of the Universe by them! The "hello" voice at the end is the character of Han-Tyumi from that album. Quite a fun journey with this band!
Side 2 is the winner for me even the first side is very cool. The mystical/eastern influence elements and riffs/transitions/atmospheres/jives are some of my fave by the band.😎🎸👏 KGATLW acknowledge Tools influence alot...I'm not a fan of theirs personally, though this may be the case. KGATLW have a lighter funny quirky spirit in comparison that really endears me to them in each moment. Gentle Giant and Caravan and yes a bit of Jethro Tull as you say Jim are for me musically in similar ball park....but each of those bands have their own delightful music talents /journey and quirks which come together extremely well on nearly every album.....god I love those bongos and percussion.....and then the chanting.. 'searching for the gold inside the rainbow ' 🧐🌈🌈🌈💘
Most Prolific Band working today (or any day, really). Waking up to this video was perfect. Thanks, Jim! I really hope that you get to see them one day.
I had never really had a good listen to side 2, but so far I really love it! I’m sure KGLW will find another spot in your schedule sometime, I’m already hyped!
Glad you enjoyed this one. This albums really grows on you with more listens to it as you start to understand they lyrics. This one has some of the most interesting story to me personally
To all King Gizz fans...Of all KGLW albums you've heard, as of now, which one is your personal favorite? I love this question because almost everyone who answers names a different album which proves the band's consistent greatness and variety which appeals to a wide fan base of diverse musical tastes.
Hey man! I love your reactions to this. If you were going to own ONE King Gizzard vinyl and react to it I would say you should look into Quarters. If you can't get the vinyl just listen to it on your own time or something. It is such an amazing psych rock album, really interesting production techniques, and 4 unforgettable songs. Loved this reaction!
Jim, after you finally get around to listening to all KGLW albums, I think a "Jim Newstead Ranks all KGLW Albums" video would be interesting and great.
This is probably my favorite King giz album. I think all of their albums are genius in their own way and worth checking out, but in my opinion they have 3 that are near perfect albums. You already checked out poly and nonagon, but the third is "invest the rats nest". If you have it, I would highly recommend checking that out soon. It's so so good, and yet it's very very different from this.
No doubt you've had recommendations about other KGLW albums to listen. You've got Nonagon Infinity, LW and Polygondwanaland. Into that mix and keeping to prog rock feel, I'd recommend KG (similar to but less developed than LW), and their most recent release 'Ice, Death, Lungs, Mushrooms and Lava'.
This was their fourth of five albums in 2017! Personally it's my second favourite, nipping at the heels of Murder of the Universe (listen to that album for more of that voice you heard at the end!) King Gizzard also just released their fifth of five albums this year, Changes, last night. Loving it so far, and loving the KGLW reactions!
In all fairness even when I do have the lyrics in front of me I can’t make much sense of them. Stories and metaphors about an land that’s an allegory for earth?
It's part of the Gizzverse. Perhaps Han-tyumi (Anagram for Humanity): the confused cyborg, achieved Technocromacy and then could see the fourth colour. Trans-humanism at its finest (and scariest).
Tool died in 1996 after that they polyrhythm their fans into hypnosis with a few wanks and New age Babble an a occasional overly reverb pitch correct scream to invoke emotion.... shout-out to the King Crimson albums discipline, beat and three of a perfect pair.oh yeah can't forget CAN And RUSH

This year was another 5 album year (not including B3k1 remix album) since Changes released today
@@Tomp4ul how good is Change. Its up there for me
@@HarryWful It's excellent!

Murder is very Nonagon-esque, too. Would highly recommend it considering his Nonagon review haha

They played that at Philly too!! Mind blowing, I screamed when they went right into Fourth Colour!
Already? They are so prolific it's hard to keep up....even as huge fan🤯🤯🤯😅
Did they play Deserted Dunes after the Fourth Color? That 4 song run is absolutely insane
@@atharvachoudhary6974 i wish
I saw them in Australia on thier Microtonal tour. Fantastic! 🦎

'searching for the gold inside the rainbow ' 🧐🌈🌈🌈💘
So glad you did this one. Please check out more of their stuff!
I’m mad you listened to this before murder of the universe for context of that “hello” and the voice acting. But either way this is my favorite album
It's a very dense album, I wouldn't expect the lyrics to make sense the first, or even the second time
It is a concept album. It does have a story to it. Just read the lyrics.
Most Prolific Band working today (or any day, really).

Wow! Thanks Jim. Great record. Great fun on an unexpectedly early start to my day!

My favorite album Changes everytime they release a new one (haha see what I did there?!)
My favorite album of king gizzard for many years was paper mache dreams balloon and strong second is infest the rat's nest. So many good option tbh
Definitely recommend their explorations of microtonality 1 "Flying Microtonal Banana".

BTW this band is unique in their approach to making an album.they have grit and I respect that tremendously.
Man, what I would do to hear this album for the first time again.
Would love to see you do their album “Murder of the Universe” next, really unique with some creative story telling and narration.
Excited to see you discover more of their work

I don't think I got high enough math grades to listen to this album.

is that… 13/8 rhythm? In Tetrachromacy?
9:50 turns into a King Crimson track for a few seconds…🤓
Hello Jim, looking forward to your livestream tonight !!
I'm def getting tickets when they are in UK next Jim....maybe see you there 😁🙏.... whenever and whatever that is....😅
Two nights in London, March 22 & 23 2023

Now that’s keen !!
Side one was pretty great. Fingers crossed
Haha well done.

KG&tLW are never less than interesting though I'm not so keen on the microtonal stuff. This is very listenable though.
