Great reaction. You really have to listen to this album front to back nonstop to truly feel how powerful it is I would suggest. Following with the lyrics is also helpful. The story telling is just incredible.
You have only scratched the surface My friend. KG and LW are phenomenal. Flying microtonal banana is top notch. All the KEXP performances!! Every single album!
These videos are from months ago, I've already heard nearly all of their stuff at this point, and I think Chivo is editing down my reactions to all of their albums
@@humanreviewsstuff I'm editing nearly everything! Can't really get access to the gizz album streams that were blocked by yt, but thankfully it's only 1-3 albums
Dumbest word? Gondwanaland is the name given to ancient supercontinent that included Australia. Poly refers to the polyrhythms used on the album. So the full name refers to the immensity of the polyrhythms of the album.
Hey mate, I really love the reactions on this channel, especially with you going back to some classic rock / pop stuff! If I could recommend an album that's very personally important to me- the Beach Boys' Pet Sounds is in my opinion still one of the crowning achievements of modern pop music. As a musician, the compositions are almost unparalleled in pop music to this day, with a lot of harmonic devices and chord structures more common to classical than pop, yet blended seamlessly with the pop music of its time. Amazingly, every single bit of music on the album is composed and produced completely by a 23 year old Brian Wilson, at a time when the concept album wasn't really even a concept. This was also the album that scared the Beatles into wanting to do Sgt. Peppers, with Paul McCartney still also calling it the greatest pop record ever recorded. It's hard to explain why the album feels so important to me, but there's a profound kind of emotional depth in a lot of the songs which at first imply a more childish or simple perspective, with the music implying a depth of emotion and nuance that tinges the entire portrait of first love in the lyrics with an intense sense of melancholy. My fascination with the album only grew the more I learned about composing and constructing music, as a lot of the music is paradoxically incredibly complex, often breaking rules of key, yet suggests a totally accessible pop exterior. In terms of fusing pop and classical, I would argue it's one of the few examples of a true hybrid, rather than just small aesthetic details added to imply a mix of genres like strings, the actual music is incredibly steeped in advanced classical compositional concepts. I really recommend you check it out, I think you'd enjoy it.
If you really enjoyed this album. Id highly recommend The Silver Cord album. They went all out on syths for that record. Or if you want to take another left field album that sounds different from the rest that you have listened up to. Id recommend The Flying microtonal Banana Album. Its more middle eastern psychedelic garage rock.
Saw you counting time signatures, maybe you picked up on the fact that this record is filled to the brim with polyrythms, maybe most noticeably in the first and last track. Anyway love the reactions, and would love to see you check out some of their live performances too. I would go for Magma at Red Rocks '23, which is often in the discussion for their best live performances.
Yeah, I love counting time signatures and polyrythms, it's the first thing I gravitate towards because I'm a drummer. I have been sent in a handful of their live performances, and I've loved all of them, hoping to see them myself when they're next in the UK
To clarify on the gizzverse--it's not necessarily all their albums. There are certain ones with lyrics, themes, and plots that vaguely fit into what could be perceived as an overarching narrative. Most of it revolves around a character called han-tyumi and his murder of the universe. The gizzverse kinda faded away after fishing for fishies, but a couple of their new records (petro, silver cord, and b741) seem like they are referencing new overarching themes
@@bitterbum1 Yeah, I'm at the point where I've listened to almost all of their albums (this video was filmed months ago), and I'm definitely starting to get an understanding on what the Gizzverse is. I think it's a super cool concept, and I like that they're tying certain albums into eachother
@@humanreviewsstuff Yeye they write a lot of albums simultaneously, so I think the gizzverse kind of naturally emerged, then they leaned into it once the fans caught on
Just so you know, Polygondwanaland (the entire album) was released into the public domain, so you dont need to cut it at all, or worry about copyright issues for any of the songs on this album
Yeah, I was aware of that and I'm glad because it made Chivo be able to have way longer clips, but I still prefer to have the videos edited down because I don't like having sections too long without any talking
Awesome reaction! It helped remind me how great this album is! They also released this album as public domain, so you can press it and sell it yourself for profit. What band does that?
I had this in mind while editing this and made parts longer compared to the other king gizz video i edited. I just edited out the parts where he yaps about stuff with the chat which were not related to the actual album or the songs. Check out his actual streams tho, they're completely unedited! :P
Make sure you like and sub if you haven't, we're on our way to 2k!

I have already heard the album on a stream before, and I'm considering turning that into an edited video
@@humanreviewsstuff i'd enjoy watching it for sure

He has already reacted to them on his livestream, so check them out there!

I don’t think you needed to edit this album at all. It has no rights as per the bands website. People are free to use it as they like.
