Following your overall advice I lost 20 lbs in 6mths and brought my A1C from 9 to 4. I did great until I got the big C. I was in the hospital and had steroids and of course had hospital food which was a reg. Diet. Not a diabetic diet. I'm starting over doing the right thing. This doc knows what he's talking about!

Kaiser ha diabetic diets for in-patients. In fact, their hand-held
Tablet would not even let me order high-carb or high-cholesterol foods.
But, they still provided healthy and tasty meals to me !!!

Sorry to hear about your illness. My endoscopy and the recommended sugary gatorade and fruit juice purge set my A1C back a year. I knew better but did what the docs told me to. After a few weeks I'm getting back to (new) normal.

I am a survivor myself and had a stroke when something took advantage of the weakening of my immune system from the chemo. Generally it is best to do what the nurses tell you. Note that I said the NURSES and not the doctors! The nurses usually have more interaction with patients and will have great advice. Best to follow your common sense though and if something strikes you as not quite right ask your doctor. (My oncologist said to do what the nurses told me to as well.)

I eat one a day, it doesn’t elevate my blood sugar, I feel better the last 3 months since I’ve been eating them. They are so good and worth the trouble of eating the juicy seeds. Glad to be able to get your take on the foods that can help our health, instead of more medication.

This is so exciting! I grew up next to a field full of pomegranate trees and ate them all the time. Then, I heard - NO, you're diabetic and they have too much sugar. Well, thank you for setting the record straight. I will again incorporate them in to my diet. Thank you again!!!

Wouldn’t it be better to eat the Pomegranate whole with the fiber rather than drinking the juice? Was thinking that the fiber might help in processing the carbs.

The Pomegranate skin has even more antioxidants than the seeds which fight inflammation and people usually discard it. If you dry the Pomegranate skin in an oven at low heat (200 F or less), you can then grind it in a powder. Half a teaspoon of this powered skin can be added to your coffee grinds when you make coffee. This will add a red tint (antioxidants) to your coffee and the bitter taste of the skin mixes well with the bitter taste of the coffee.
If you need a sweet taste to your coffee, you can add some Stevia which does not add to your blood glucose although it will release some insulin.

Thank you for a great informative video. I am now a type 2 diabetic at the age of 50. When I was 25 and non diabetic I used to be a vegetarian and I became obsessed with pomegranate. I used to eat 1 every day. The only downside to this was the pomegranate stained my teeth so bad only the dentist could get it off.
I have been off pomegranate ever since but I will try again but in moderation now thanks to your advice. I thought I would share my experience so other people are aware.

Pomegranate has an average glycemic index (GI) value of 53. People with diabetes are recommended to have fruits with a GI of 55 or less. Low hypoglycemic index allows gradual release of sugars, therefore preventing spikes in the sugar levels.
The estimated glycaemic load (GL) of pomegranate is 18, which makes it an excellent fruit to manage blood sugar levels.Fresh pomegranate juice ameliorates insulin resistance, enhances β-cell function, and decreases fasting serum glucose in type 2 diabetic patients. Reference:Nutr Res. 2014 Oct;34(10):862-7.
Moreover, consuming one glass of pomegranate juice in the daytime on a daily basis has been proven, in many scientific studies, to significantly reduce the bad LDL cholesterol levels in patients with diabetes.

we were told by a dietitian when I attended a diabetic class it's better to eat a fruit rather than drink it's juice. her explanation. eating a fruit, we digest it and the sugar is slowly released compared to a juice. the sugar on the juice is easily digested or easily consumed
