I was going to ask you that, Baz. Having done so many of these, and it looks an absolute swine of a job, what should the designers have done differently to make the job easier? Obviously an undertray for the Fiesta would have been a start, but did they miss anything obvious?
@@simonbailey2151, Ford made a little improvement by using a timing chain, and rotating the cyl. head. @@shifty277 It is Euro 6 and the 2.0 litre diesel turbo and I bought it from High Peak but it had covered 44500 miles as in lock-down it had been off the road entirely. The owner traded it in to a Kia dealer for a new car and it not a car they wanted to retail so off to the next level of dealer down. Not cheap though.
I will keep watching these learning from every one done. I like to see the state of the belt, sump, and oil pick up versus the mileage. It's great info, giving us an idea of the lifespan of a belt. A clean pick up looks like the car had regular oil changes, but the deterioration of the belt seems to tie in with the mileage. Great data. Thanks Baz
Agreed with everything you have said. For me it's the amount of oil changes up to the 60k mark for example - are we talking silly 4 x 15k long life oils from the manufacturer or more sensible 8 x 7.5k oil changes.
Yes, you do a lot of them, but like you say, it might be the same job, but everyone that you do comes with there own difficulties, snapped bolts siezed bolts etc. Keep them coming is what I say. 💪👍
Great job as always Baz, yes you do alot of wet belts but im sre your followers are always interested in the milage and state of the pick up. Have you thought about trying to get some sort of 3d printed bolt holder for all your wet belt jobs?. Thanks Baz🤙🤙
Currently in the middle of this job on my son's fiesta. 2014 with 77k miles. Air compressor and cat bolts came off without issue but one bolt on the exhaust wouldn't budge. Tried drilling but my drill bit hardly made an impression. Resorted to a dremel to cut it off from behind. The torque multiplier made light work of the crank bolt (cheap Chinese versio). I did have issues getting the front cover back on...I was following the ford manual Torque specs which call for a funal torqu of 15nm +90° but obe if the bolts snapped. Rather than risk any more snapping, I removed the cover and cleaned off the rtv. Got new bolts from local ford supplier. I wonder if Baz omits the final 90° to avoid shapping. Anyway, just put the crank pully back on and hope to button it up tomorrow and Saturday. Belt was showing signs of cracking and delamination and there were a few particles in the oil pickup. Hugh thanks to Baz for all the wet belt videos...i felt like an armchair professional and well versed, ready to tackle the job!
It was 16mm. From what I have seen, the 18mm was also used on cars built up to September 2013. My local ford parts supplier said they usually go with the 18mm if their system shows both. I'm not so sure though as the parts catalogue that calls for 18mm belts also has a different part number for the cam gears so I would stick to what is on the car. Great site for part catalogue is ssg.aisa. Put in your vin and you can view the entire parts catalogue.
great video as usual , you truly are the wet belt master with the amount of these you have done , would love to get mine booked in , emailed you a few weeks back , need to get it sent 🤙
I think it would be useful to film the old belt, to see if it was there are any cracks or damage sings, in the future. Nice job! 🤜🏻🤛🏻 In your experience, what is the correct milage to change the timing belt for 1l ecoboost?
Great video Baz, you can do these with your eyes closed now :) how can you identify which belt is in the engine (the 16mm or 18mm) you can tell by VIN or only after taking off the rocker cover?
Love watching your vlogs , I am 65 and learning all the time thinking of doing my ecosport next year got 47000 on, change oil every year Castrol Magnatec , are all the torque wrench settings the same or do they varey from model to model . I find this riveting Keep up the good work , All the Best !
Another good video Baz, had mine done a couple of months ago at 73000 miles and oil pump was fine, as I always service it myself using correct castrol oil. Can I ask do you not change the water pump at the same time? Always great to watch you video's.
My 1.0 focus is due a belt change it's done 65000, can you tell me are the new wet belts improved from the original ones? I have been quoted from my local garage that i have used for years £950 for the amount of work involed i think thats a fair price.Massively more expensive than a conventional belt but it is what it is.
@bazmeredith if you were half way through a wet belt job, just about to start putting it back together, and you found a small black oring on the ground, about 16mm in diameter, would you have any idea where it might have come from? There's a myriad of disconnected pipes but not sure which would use a 16mm oring....
@bazmeredith Thanks Baz. I have that one covered. The one I found is much smaller, like a penny in size. Thought it might have fell out of one of the vacuum or coolant hoses but can't see anything obvious. Will be vacuum filling the coolant tomorrow. Will see how that goes!
hi baz what oil would you recommend for my 1.2 2021 puretech wet belt. there is lots of conflicting comments. because it's started using oil after a cam belt change. I wish I could bring it to you to look after. thank you.

Timing belt/chain replacement on a small family car should not cost more than £450 including parts. I read that a wet belt replacement costs around £950. That’s simply poor design IMO.
watching you do these wet belts makes me feel sorry for you. I do atleast one PSA 1.2 wet belt a week & they really designed it well (except for being a wet belt) in terms of ease of access.

Ford should have put an inspection plug in the sump to check the oil pickup.
Or smaller sump like the PSA, which would save a lot of faff removing the cat

Are the oil pump belts ever as cracked as the drive belt? Only as on newer engines they still have it…
Never seen an oil belt crack yet on these
