    As for Skull Face, I always thought the black face was to represent shadow. He's a mysterious creature, a lost Kokiri transforms into a skull kid. Makes total sense in the world of Ocarina of Time.

      I know this is a whole 4 years old, but people are more sensitive to that sort of stuff in the West, just take a look at Twitter nowadays, it really doesn't take much to set them off so it's completely understandable.

      Yeah, I wouldn't really want to buy something that was being advertised with "Willst thou get the girl? Or play like one?". Maybe it could've been funny 30 years ago, but today it would just be confusing and stupid. Unless it was being deliberately sexist for some Duke Nukem type of game, but that wasn't the case.

      VirusPF I can't speak for the others, but I know about blackface. I don't know any black Americans who don't know about Blackface. What we were saying was that it didn't come to mind to us when playing and I was in my late teens when playing OoT. I viewed the characters as having shadowed over faces because of their hats or hair. With the way Jynx looked when defeated in Stadium, she loses her hair. I thought of them in the same way I did Orco from He-Man.
      I think the only way I would've associated them with Blackface, was if they were acting moronic or stupid. Neither character did.

      @sws212 7 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      +VirusPF People know about blackface, they just don't care enough to take offense from something innocent. Skull Kidd was never intended to be a racist symbol so why should he be seen as one?

  • @MistNinjaJulian
    @MistNinjaJulian 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

    The 3ds version also censored the shadow temple. The wall and floor patterns in most rooms are mostly skull and bones in the original 64 version but are now just dirt. They also removed the blood in the shadow temple in the later versions of the original 64 game.

      1. You can look up the call to prayer's translation anywhere. Nowhere does it mention anything like that.
      2. Look up the Spanish Inquisition?
      3. It's not strictly forbidden, but it's considered disrespectful to have music over it. They were just trying to show respect and avoid controversy by having religious content in the game.

    The symbol on the blocks are a nice touch regardless of what version you are playing. You see the symbol is actually Ganon's emblem. Namely the one associated with the Gerudo. It's similar to how the blocks in Majora's Mask have the Majora symbol on it. The symbol on the blocks in both games represent the main antagonist of the respective game.

    Or was it just to play it safe?

    • @zeddash.6695
      @zeddash.6695 7 ปีที่แล้ว +28

      I think it was to play it safe. I am a muslim and I am glad that they censored this. The reason I say this is because in our religion music should not be played during prayer. To put things in perspective playing music with our chants is like showing a muslim eating pork. I personally am not offended. But I don't want other muslims to go through this.

    • @juiceala
      @juiceala 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I am exactly the same, while I'm more open minded to similar situations I completely understand why it was censored and it is for the best, Nintendo played it right there, I think it would be reasonable that when companies use chants from different languages in the future to try and do some research of what they actually are saying so nothing like this would occur again.

    Didn't know that Nintendo used a sampling program for that chant. I guess they're not directly responsible for it being made, it just sounds like the perfect atmospheric sound though for the fire temple. Kinda sucks we live in an age where feelings are too fragile to make sense. Give the people a true experience, not a softened version.

    I know I got thrown out of whack at this censorship , because I played the original when I was a kid but somehow I got rid of my copy, i don’t remember if I lost it or trade it at GameStop, but later I replayed the game in the GameCube and somehow it felt different, specially getting at the part in the fire temple, it didn’t had that eeerie feeling, idk it just vibed different. I started to think 🤔, maybe because I’m older now. Then I found out it went trough different revisions. I didn’t had internet 🛜 when I was a kid, but I remember playing the Demo at a kiosk at Walmart, played the Deku Tree demo and Milo’s guarding the passage way. That hooked me into getting the game. This game friendzoned link 🔗 tough. Well … 😅

    I hope people realize that gamergate was in the works way back then, too.
    And it also really pisses me off, because the skull kid should not have been censored. He is not even supposed to really have a face. Maybe they changed him to wood to match him from Majora's Mask? He is supposed to be a child who is lost to the woods forever. The game even says that children may become lost to the woods forever, I remember at some point.
    He is now known as the mysterious "skull kid," his body becoming a shadowy visage being the effects of succumbing to the will of the Lost Woods. He just hides around in the Lost Woods, and plays his flute, a familiar tune like Saria's Song. He would always disappear if you shot him, and if you were an adult he would shoot at you, because the 'kids' of the forest hate the taller 'adults.' You earned his respect by playing his tune with him, he shares the piece of heart and departs. The mysterious skull kid. Why is he named skull kid? Why does he wear the skull mask?

    “For reasons unknown”
    Judging by the dates in the builds, it’s likely they didn’t catch the Islamic chant thing until they already produced and shipped copies of the game, hence why later revisions don’t have it.
