I would like to see a complete Teen rated Zelda game with no necessary censorship someday.
I had a copy of BoTW with the word “Dammit”, and i was like Seven so i was shocked
7:38 When Ty reveals his Zelda fandom by pronouncing it “HILL-ian” as opposed to “HIGH-Lian”
For real. That bothered me lol. They pronounce it the correct way so many times in BotW and totk.
A couple of things that you got wrong here. Each time you stated that Nintendo made the changes in Ocarina of Time for the 3DS remake...that is completely false. The first version of the game 1.0 (or the gold cart as some call it) had all of the original stuff. The chanting, the original Gerudo symbol, and Ganondorf's blood. They made 1.1 carts that were grey and still had the same picture in the middle. On this version they took out the chanting and the blood, but the Gerudo symbol was left alone. Then they came out with 1.2 carts that were grey still but had a different picture in the middle. This version replaced the original Gerudo symbol to what it is today. All of this was done on the Nintendo 64 looong before the 3DS even existed.
Various places say the blood was turned green in 1.2.
Came here to say this lol.
I knew this was censored earlier.
@@zachtwilightwindwaker596 Was it though? Literally everyone else says it wasn't so I'm going to need some actual evidence.
@@Atrus999 It was censored in the Game Cube port. I have played it.
There was also a Star of David in the Eastern Palace in A Link to the Past. It was the spot where you got the big key. It was changed to some generic crest outside of Japan.
For Ocarina of Time. I wish the remakes kept the instances of blood and chanting. I'd feel more immersed with them in it. By the way the chanting was cut in previous rereleases long before the remake. Glad ToTK brought it back subtly in its fire temple. A few honorable mentions like the redesigning of Skull Kid in later versions to appear less racist and Ruto to look less sexualized.
Funny how Twilight Princess is spared censorship. As it has Telma's bar with alcohol, Not another milk bar. Bloody instances with Rusl and the Gates, Violence against Ganondorf and Zant, A touch of nudity with the topless Great Fairy and Twili Midna, a christian choir in its intro.
If I remember correctly, the chant in Ocarina of Time was the Islamic call to prayer. I don't know about any other Muslim chants, but that one should not have any backing melody. Considering how more prevalent religious extremism seems to be nowadays, it may not be a bad idea to not include a call to prayer that shouldn't have any backing tracks.
Twilight Princess is classified as T, for teenagers, so this game has the pass 😉
Is it mentioned that Telma's bar had alcohol? I don't think Midna was topless. How was Ruto less sexualized?
The bit about the fire temple isn't entirely accurate. There was no uproar about the music, and it was discovered and changed before the game was released, but too late to prevent the original version to be removed from the cartridges. The reason it was removed was partly for religious connotations but more because they realized they didn't have the rights to use the sample of the chants.
I think all the blood in ocarina of Time was censored except for the ones that were part of textures like on the Shadow Temple walls but the blood that appears when killing enemies or in the case of ganondorf's cough was all changed to Green.
5:51 While nintendo would remove the chanting from later versions. It's Ironic that they would still have it in Cruisn' World (Egypt stage) and no one really made a fuss about it (it was even in another game)
Just for anyone who has never played the original ocarina of time. The song featured in this video for the fire temple was not the censored original. It was the one used after the policies were enacted. It was just to avoid copyright I guess. But you can still find the original posted publicly here on TH-cam. And it sounds much more blatantly religious.
And I will also say owning one of the copies with that music in it fits the dungeon better
I noticed that too. There was no Islamic chant. I never played the original but I know it.
Who cares if there’s religious references in Legend of Zelda. I love it.
Completely agree but to answer your question, religious people
Islamist care. And they bitch and moan and threaten
@@El_IF_B_2 I disagree: extremists whom attempt to subscribe to a religion care. Religious people care about those whom subscribe to their religion...and Nintendo does not promote their religion (if they have one).
@@kurthill9070 I think you misunderstood / I could have phrased it better. I just meant it like if there was somebody out there who might care, it would 100% be a religious person. I didn't mean all religious people would care.
Tbh I love the Islamic references in ocarina of time, & I’m Christian, it adds more culture to the game, & I believe a link to the past had a Christian church which was also really cool, I wish they kept them all
Wassup bro I am Muslim and Egyptian guy but I like oot and played it with randomizer 😂😂
OoT censorship: Little more complicated than presented.
Basically there's three builds of the N64 game, simply titled 1.0, 1.1, and 1.2.
1.0 is most of the preorder gold cartridges, and a few rare greys. Easiest tell is that you can simply use the Ocarina to warp out during the Ganon battle, leading to the Swordless Link series of glitches, and, the blood Ganondorf spits up being red, and the moon-n-star Gerudo symbol and the Fire Temple arabic chanting.
1.1 is most first print greys, a few rare golds. The Gerudo symbol is still the moon, and the chant is still there, but you can't _simply_ use the Ocarina to warp out as mentioned, though there's a slightly convoluted way to still do so. Also, the blood Ganondorf spits up changes to whatever tunic you're wearing.
1.2 is the one where we see the "cobra's hood-eyespots" pattern Gerudo symbol that's now the canon emblem, removes the chanting, and the spit-up is locked to green. This version is the one that all ports and the 3DS remake are based on.
What's more: we _know_ the Build Dates (ie; the date someone last hit "save" and exported the ROM that would be on the cartridges). There's glitches that you can do to this day that'll expose it, but for expedience's sake: tcrf.net/The_Legend_of_Zelda:_Ocarina_of_Time#Build_Dates
tl;dr - 1.0 (naturally) and 1.1 were from _before_ the Japanese release date, with 1.2 with the changes was compiled in the short window between the Japanese and US release-- tho, again, all the US golds and the first waves of greys were 1.0 or 1.1
Also from Link's Awakening - the Grandma from Mabe Village originally said "YAHOO!" in the US version, then DX changed it to "HELLO!", presumably over trademark issues with the search engine. Now the Switch remake changed it back.
“Yahoo” is also another way of saying “hello” in Japanese. I’ve also heard about the trademark thing, but I’m not sure that’s actually true.
@@Nikori It makes sense, if that was why. Yahoo was a powerful tech company in 1998 when DX came out, (Google just started that same year). Now they're barely relevant in Nintendo's eyes.
We Germans dont mind hippo boobs.
When I was a kid, I thought the thing Ganondorf spit out might have been some sort of part of the inside of his mouth, which to be honest is quite disturbing to think about. It wasn't until I found a video online that claimed that it was blood that I knew what that red stuff actually was, and given how it is changed to green in the 3DS remake, I guess that answers the question. To my knowledge, the change to green could either interpret it as blood being green in that universe, or that it was puke.
It was changed to green in either version 1.1 or 1.2 for N64 just btw lol. But that’s an interesting take!
I thought it was puke.
If Link talk to the mermaid and dive down at the water before finding her bikini top, she will scream and call Link a pervert. We all know what he saw😏
What game is this in?
@@user-fk9pm2vh6h
Link’s awakening in the Japanese version translate
Ooohh thanks
Glad they did NOT censor Wind Waker Link stabbing Ganondorf's brains out. But at this day and age, this kind of censorship seems so outdated.
6:41 That isn't the real 1.0 version of Ocarina of Time on the N64 with the islamic chant, you are using the 1.3 version Gamecube port included on the Zelda Collection.
I don't think those are breasts on the hippo. It is sitting down, and it looks like it's feet
I'm pretty sure you're right about that
You’re 100% right
I thought the same thing. I was like "what breasts?" 😂
@@Atrus999 , I mean I'm always down to see some hippo titties, but I was disappointed when I only saw hippo feet.
You missed it, you have to pause it at 5:11 because it's really quick just as Link enters the room. The hippo is standing straight up with the towel sagging down around her waist and her not-too-detailed breasts are exposed. When Link enters, she gets embarrassed and covers up with the towel. That's the original Japanese version. The version without the towel where you can see her feet is the censored version, where she just has the typical body of a hippo with no boobs.
I was one of those people lucky enough to have one of the earlier versions of Ocarina of Time as a kid. The blood stains in the Shadow Temple really added to the already creepy atmosphere.
The legend of Zelda is one of my top 5 favourite gameseries I've always played Zelda games since I was a kid, my first Zelda game was Skywardsword so that's why it's my favourite but I like Twilight Princess, Wind Waker, A Link Between worlds and Breath of the wild and I wan't buy Tears of the kingdom on this year. Plz will you make more these videos about Nintendo's masterpieces like this Zelda and other like Super Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid and Kirby. Censored moments are interesting. 😮
Meanwhile Twilight Princess isn't censored at all because of the T rating by the ESRB 😎
2:04 I'm pretty sure you guys were supposed to show the changes to the Mirror Shield in OoT 3D
There are still some background crosses in some of the towns in Zelda II.
Dammit to darn it is such a joke lol
Ganondorf just ate some bad food is all . Link didn't even hurt him he just got sick
There is a flaw here. The islamic symbol was not changed in Ocarina of Time 3D. It was already changed for Nintendo Gamecube OoT
It's pretty neat though that they chaged Ganondorf's Blood from Red to Green, this shows that he actually developed from a Man to a Demon, Ghirahim himself claimed that he had Blue blood Because he is a Demonic Being.
So it kinda makes sense for Ganondorf's Blood to be different Because he slowly loses his humanity more and more.
The ocarina changes were in the gamecube version.
The changes were also in the N64 versions 1.1 and 1.2 which were made the same year as the games release lol. Much earlier than the video claimed.
Always thought Ganondorf was vomiting rather than coughing
That would be accurate.
10 things in Mario games censored in other country's
Ganon dwarf has a green cough ……. that might work in the alien movies but not in legend of Zelda
Some people read way too much into things
Listen if you’re gonna talk about the oot fire temple chant you could at least put an example in. The clips y’all used don’t even have the chant, they have the revised version where it’s just some vocal tones.
And, as with changing the gerudo symbol from the fairy and moon, both versions are in the original n64 release, and weren’t changed after the fact.
The 3ds version made extra sure that there were no traces of the Islamic chant or the fairy and moon gerudo symbols.
That being said, I don’t think it’s fair to call these things “censored,” because both versions were available in all regions at release.
All of them
I didn't even know TLOZ was censored.
I'm so glad the PC version of Ocarina of Time has the red blood. I was actually confused when I saw that for the first time because I didn't know the game was censored.
I didn't know Breath of the Wild had swearing. Shadow the Hedgehog swears too.
I wish the PC version of Ocarina gave us the option to keep the Gerudo Crescent image. I didn't see an option for that.
Triforce of the Gods is a better title than A Link to the Past. Why is it even called that? I don't think that game involves time travel.
I modded Link's Awakening to have it uncensored. Now it make sense why the hippo tells you to go away.
You didn't play the actual Islamic chant in Ocarina of Time.
When Ganon vomited green I thought it was just vomit and not blood.
I have a copy of Breath of the Wild with the word intact.
I did not see the hippo having breasts? That’s not her feet and she’s sitting down?
yet monster hunter has it in there frontier jungle theme
Yeah, the bikini top wouldn't fly here in the u.s., ( too bad😏😏😏).
I think that the religious censorship is pretty dumb in the sense that there really shouldn't be anything to fear, but the stuff that alludes to real world religions can take me out of the game a little (with one exception. The Ancient Cistern dungeon is just that cool). There's even more explicit references to religion not even mentioned, such as a piece of concept art that clearly shows Link praying to a crucifix. Talk about goofy!
Dammit isn't that bad of a word lol. Is that a USA thing? In England this is just a normal everyday word.
Hallo
The examples from Breath of The Wild and most of the religious examples were just plain stupid. Oh boo hoo, cussing in a game that features people getting killed. It's like Susan Wojackoff localized some of these.
Susan Wobberjacky combined with 4Kids, perhaps?
Well, it IS Nintendo, so what do you expect? Lol😂
Swearing!
Uh, aren't The Legend of Zelda games T-rated ?
They're generally rated E. I think Twilight Princess might have been T, not sure though.
@@Atrus999 So what ? When Earthbound first came out, it was E-rated. But when the game was re-released on the Wii U, it was given a T rating !
@@aidanhever3369 Uh...what do you mean so what? I'm answering your question. 😂
@@Atrus999Twilight Princess is rated T, including the HD Wii U release.
All Zelda games up to OoT were rated E.
I happen to like the religious references in the games. And I'm an atheist. I don't care for the religious references
