      but the thing with triforce% was that even though it wasn't modded before gameplay they used ACE which is basically a way to mod the game during gameplay with certain controller inputs and use of TASbot so it isn't truly getting the triforce since the triforce never existed in OoT.

    • @nocturnalcockroach

      While I can't say that the Triforce% run was fake and that they lied to everyone by telling people the cart was unmodded (because at the start, this was true).. they were being disingenuous by modding the cart in real lime using ACE. Straight up telling everyone at the start that this was data that was left on the cart is an outright lie though. It didn't bother me overly much at first, but the amount of "casual" folk who've since come to me telling me they finally found the triforce cause they saw that run, has made me pretty sour on it, and the people who did it while they SHOULD be praised for the ingenuity and technical wizardry, instead, I feel contempt because they tried to deceive the audience. Simply pre-facing the run with "We're going to mod the cart in real time to simulate what the game could look like if a lot of beta elements were re-added into it" would have sufficed.

    I feel it should be noted that in the inventory screen for the medallions, the Triforce symbol in the centre of the hexagon isn't indentation but actually embossing as the triangles protrude outward, as you can see by the shadows going only in certain directions. Obviously, with a detail like this, it was never intended the Triforce would fill up that area.

    I think the footage where Link finds the Triforce was just the devs showing off what Link's iconic "item get" pose looked like in 3D. Of course, obtaining the Triforce may have been an idea that was tossed around early in development, but the footage really can't be used as evidence for it. I mean, does anyone really think you'd just find the complete Triforce sitting in a chest somewhere?
    Some may argue that it was meant to be obtained after beating the final boss, echoing the ending of ALttP. But then you'd have to ignore the only other evidence of its inclusion, the outline on the status screen. Because what would be the point of having it filled in right before the credits rolled?

      It's for this reason I feel like the cut UI element is probably a cut game completion indicator, or maybe even a cut second quest (which maybe later developed into Master Quest?). The Triforce would make a pretty good "you did it!" indicator or some other special marker for such a circumstance, especially since you reunite the pieces of the Triforce presumably when you defeat Ganon. It could very well be something extremely simple like that and not intended to represent literally having the Triforce itself in-game.

    I never thought you could get the triforce as an item in OOT. On the quest status screen, it always felt like the medallion spots were indented, while the triforce were raised up.
    Actually the songs, heart peices, and the 3 stones also seemed indented to me. So the only thing to look raised as opposed to indented was the triforce, signifying that it wasn't obtainable.

    • @theocean6609
      @theocean6609 ปีที่แล้ว +46

      The triforce is raised on the quest status screen. You can see that if you look at the lighting. (the light is coming from the top-left corner) if you look at the triforce you can see that there is a light in the top-left corner and a shadow in the bottom-right. This would not be possible if the triforce was indented.

      Same, I grew up with Ocarina, and I don't think I remember ever hearing any rumors or talk about finding the Triforce. It was obviously shown in game, we know where it is, its breaking apart was one of the most important beats in the story. But I guess maybe because that happens off-screen, some people who really weren't paying attention still thought that it would somehow be assembled and discovered as one despite that. I definitely remember Mew and "Pikablu" though haha
      PS I also don't remember anyone complaining about the Iron Boots. I remember the Water Temple being a notorious roadblock cuz it has so much backtracking in rooms that look so similar to adjust the water levels, and I remember always seeming to need 1 more small key, but I don't remember any complaints about swapping the boots. Other items that Link has appear on one of the screens when you pause the game so why not at least that one piece of the Triforce, too, if Link does indeed have it in him?
      If the Triforce is "in" Link that means that he has it so logically it should appear just like the other items Link has appear on one of the screens when you pause the game.
      I think the more likely explanation is that Link supposedly "has" the Triforce for the purpose of the story, but on a technical level the developers just left it out of the game for some reason as an item that can show up when you pause the game.

      In an early script for Zelda 64 found in the gigaleak (actually the F-Zero X Dev cart overdump), Link was originally supposed to enter Zora's Domain from under water. An early map for Zelda 64 was discovered that was just an empty cave with a tunnel full of water that just happened to fit almost perfectly together with the crevice at the bottom of Zora's Domain in the final game. It's likely that area was a remnant of the early Zora's Domain entrance before it was switched to the waterfall.

    • @ericpeterson6520
      @ericpeterson6520 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      There is a rectangular indentation down there that seems like it could've fit an exit (in the final game it uses the regular stone texture so it's truly just an indentation), but there is no evidence suggesting what it might have contained. The unicorn fountain was probably just an early design for fairy fountains, and while the Forest and Water Temples were originally conceived as Wind and Ice Temples respectively (gigaleak files confirm this), there's no evidence that there were ever any additional dungeons that were cut, only reimagined. But if you think about it, underwater in the middle of Zora's Domain would be an extremely strange place for a dungeon and an odd place for a fountain too (considering, again, it'd be fully underwater)
      Honestly the hole might have been a level designer adding redundant exits with the idea that it might be used later, but it never was. Or it might have always just been an indentation, maybe containing a chest. Or it could be a weird piece of terrain geometry that was never anything at all. There are plenty of theories, but absolutely no solid evidence
      This is all well documented by reputable sources like TCRF, I don't know why you trust this one youtuber and literally no one else but it's there if you look for it

    I believe it's more than likely to be "scrapped content" when taking into consideration some of the other cut content from the game. The medallions were originally intended to power up the bow, more items were going to be used from horseback, and, perhaps most notably, the Sword Beam was also going to be included. Instead we got individual magic arrows, multiple horseback items didn't debut until Twilight Princess, and the Sword Beam would finally make its 3D appearance in Skyward Sword. Thankfully Nintendo has a habit of using scrapped ideas for later, so much so that we're getting an entire game made from them (hopefully) next year.

    • @underdarkness7692
      @underdarkness7692 ปีที่แล้ว

      In hindsight, the problem with the idea that the Triforce was obtainable is that the plot rather fundamentally hinges on the Triforce pieces being with Link, Zelda, and Ganon. We actually know the location of the entire object for the entire story. The most generous interpretation I can think of is that at one point perhaps Zelda gave you a sage medallion which resembled the Triforce because it's the Royal Family's seal (or she blessed the other medallions as the final sage and the Triforce was the UI element to indicate they were empowered), but the Triforce being obtainable requires some pretty radical story changes to work as a concept. It seems more likely to me that any cut UI elements were merely completion indicators for other things (second quest a la Zelda 1, a "100% completion" indicator, etc).

Point is that until Ocarina of Time there wasnt an idea that each Triforce was tied to a specific character. They were McGuffins to be collected by the player. I was once looking through the texture files of my ocarina of time 3D rom and found something that intrigued me:
    There was a file that had four sets of the triforce shaded differently.
    I quickly realised that 3 of them were obviously for Zelda, Ganondorf and Link respectively but the last one was just the full triforce as a sprite and I have no clue what it’s used for. Any other objects I saw that had a triforce symbol on them had the symbol in with the rest of its texture

Although I didn’t like the Wind Waker’s cartoonish style at first, I grew to love the game in its entirety, including the graphics. • @venkelos6996
    @venkelos6996 ปีที่แล้ว +14

    I always found it weird people were thinking it could be found when it was obviously already in the game, separated between Link, Zelda, and Gdorf. That wasn't really the age of whole separate games, included on the same cart, in case you made a different choice, and with space limitations on cartridges, especially not Nintendo games, so knowing that Link, Zelda, and Ganon have their iconic pieces, it would be weird to expect to find it anywhere. Why else did they think Gdorf was after Zelda? Did he just have a Princess fetish? No, he wanted her Triforce fragment. He knew exactly where the missing pieces were.
    What might be a fun similar lore video; how did Twilight Princess Gdorf get his Triforce fragment? What split the Golden Triangles in that time line? So, if we accept the timelines split theory, Twilight Princess happens when Young Link returns to his childhood, convinces Zelda that Ganon is bad, they convince the King, and war were declared. Eventually, after heedless and ceaseless fighting, Gdorf is captured, and the ancient sages; Adult Link never appointed new ones here, try to execute Ganon. Things go pear-shaped, his Triforce of Power makes him immortal, he survives, and they banish him.
    In Ocarina, for the first part of the game, the Triforce is whole, and in the Sacred Realm; it doesn't reside, divided, among its three iconic bearers.That lasts until Link pulls the Master Sword, goes to sleep, and Gdorf tries to claim the relic; it rejected him, split in three, and gave him the challenge "find my missing fragments, or no wish for you". Child Link returned to before he pulled the Sword never gets the Spiritual Stones, or appoints new Sages, or draws the Sword; he and Zelda start a war instead, and things happen differently. So, why does the Triforce still split, when now no one touches it with imbalance in their heart? Why does a fragment lodge itself within the Evil King when it should have still remained whole, and dormant, behind the Master Sword? Maybe I just want a video about Twilight Princess! 😁

    • @Glockenspheal
      @Glockenspheal ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I find it weird as well, but remember that at the time, the whole connection between characters and each piece of the triforce was new, up until then the triforce was just a relic to be found somewhere, not to mention the promotional image and rumours, it doesn't make sense, but in that age, people didn't really think about that.
      As for why TP Gdorf got his triforce piece, they mention it was sort of a divine prank, my personal theory is that the triforce is atemporal, meaning that only one of them can exist at any given time, when Link was brought back in time, it created a sort of two triforces of courage, one in the future, so that that timeline was not without a triforce of courage, that then broke due to the time travel, and one that Link brought with himself to the past, thus splitting the triforce then as Link had already gotten a piece, but was also not worthy enough.
      Of course that conflicts with a lot of things, like I'm not really sure if Link does keep the TF of Courage when Zelda brings him back, and we know that in certain games, the triforce isn't a permanent nor stable entity, it can be destroyed and sometimes two of them can coexist in the same timeline (but not in the same dimension?)

    Discovering the Triforce was likely changed due to the narrative shift with each principle character possessing their own thematically appropriate piece. This reminds me of the change to original ending for Legacy of Kain: Soul Reaver.
    However, given the ending to OoT. I'd like to envision gathering the pieces of the Triforce independently would have unlocked a secret/alternative ending. Obtaining the Triforce of Wisdom from Sheik, at the point of the Zelda reveal. From collecting 100% of all items etc beforehand. The result of this also triggering a new prompt in the final battle. Lopping off Ganon's hand, instead of stabbing his head. Ultimately leaving Link, reassembling the Triforce at Temple of Light. Definitively ending the game, saving Hyrule and Gannondorf's threat.

This implies, to me, that It's just a part of the design of the ring of medallions and was never meant to actually house anything. BOTW 2 needs to come out quickly to breathe some life into the zelda theory community, for the last few months the theory videos I've seen are essentially talking about nothing for 10 mins :/

    I can still feel the emotions and remember the memories so vividly. Mario/Zelda 64 (loved the throwback) actually made my young self dizzy as I played standing, too excited to sit down on launch of the system.
    Today that feels silly, but at that time all we knew was 8 bit, 16 bit, and 2d. This changed everything and paved the way for so many great titles (Zelda and otherwise) to come.
    The games we enjoy today, the speeds in consoles and computers... They are literally thousands of times faster than people could even dream.
    This was a revolution and even limited by storage made a mark on history. One of my favorites by far. Nostalgia has me 😆

    Another theory I have is that Zelda Ura, that was going to be on the N64 DD was going to be a lot more than just a master quest, but that it was going to be like a sequel / expansion pack that would pick up after the events of the game, maybe at a different time, and the triforce would be obtainable. In the original game, Link, Ganon, and Zelda all had pieces inside them. After ganons defeat, the triforce might after returned to its original state, and returned to its original resting place (the exact spot the gods left the mortal plane and went to the god realm or where ever they went)
    Maybe that spot is the area link was in cryo status for 7 years

    Just like many other things in many other Zelda games it was ripped out and just reused later on this particular idea was scrapped and used way later in the Wind Waker during the quest to receive all the Triforce pieces.
    The fact that it was once in the game or could have been and is no longer is not something that's surprising nor should be surprising when it comes to the Legend of Zelda I mean there is a game that was literally made from just nothing but Zelda reused content so there's that

    Alright I’m pretty sure it was either planned but cut super early in development, or just used for marketing, both of which are fairly common, and I’m leaning more towards the latter due to there not being any code leftover for it, but I also have a 3rd theory, it was a combination of them testing possible animations for link getting an item and a possible animation for the Triforce that they decided to use for marketing.

    Its possible the 7th seal was gonna represent Zelda or maybe even the Chamber of Sage's being full, the game allows you to do some dungeons in any order (you can complete fire and i think water too before defeating phantom ganon and of course you can do spirit or shadow), it would make sense if the triforce symbol would activate when all sages are together (much like the cutscene where Rauru calls you back to the temple only activates upon having all sages)

      @that_rhobot ปีที่แล้ว +5

    • @CleaveTheDragon
      @CleaveTheDragon ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@that_rhobot Yeah, it's practically romhacking it in real time. It's cute but it's not really the same thing as claiming it's real, just taking existing assets, modifying flags/game states/codes and inserting some fan fiction to give it a context, and then creating new assets out of old ones. While it's technically impressive and all, it's disingenuous to present it as something that's part of the game. If someone wanted to and knew how, they could make all the characters in the game spout racial slurs using code injection; would you consider *that* part of the game?

    • @CleaveTheDragon
      @CleaveTheDragon ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Also it's really weird that people obsess so much over this thing. Like isn't the Triforce already part of the game? Ganon tries to collect it and it breaks apart, giving him the triforce of power, zelda wisdom, and link courage. Like that *is* the Triforce, you just aren't collecting as some random item. If you were able to obtain it earlier, that would kinda break the game's story. Like, getting this thing would be a big deal in this world right? Like that would signify Link having ultimate power, so why would they shove it in some random hidden room to grab like it's a knick knack? It's like trying to pass around a rumor that "hey if you go into every house in hyrule village, run in a circle 64 times, and then toss a bomb in the fountain, you can unlock a secret fight with ganondorf, if you beat him you can play as him!!" Purely the only reason people cared about finding it in this weird way is cause some prototype footage exists, not because of how the game itself actually turned out and already used it to frame it's story.

    • @dwangoAC
      @dwangoAC ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@CleaveTheDragon We tried our very best to be clear about what was beta content on the cartridge and what we put together ourselves but there's no denying that the lines were very blurred. We're continuing to do what we can to clearly identify what content was original and what we added. (We also worked very hard to ensure our swear filter prevented any racial slurs but you're not wrong, someone could have intentionally done that; it probably wouldn't have had as much traction, however)

  • @JJMomoida
    @JJMomoida ปีที่แล้ว

    I look back to that era of the late 1990s and early 2000s when video games weren't taken apart *quite* like they are nowadays. I, for one, loved the rumors and, while I can't say I ever engaged in any of the crazy ones (the ones asking you to do a bunch of random stuff), I really enjoyed the conversation around them. It gave these games a lot of mystique, making the games' worlds all the more fascinating and alluring, strengthening the player's connection with them.
    I've never been one to dig through a game's files, but video games, particularly those of the RPG/adventure genre have always had a quality to them that had me asking questions about what could possibly lie beyond the horizon. Even as a kid, you perhaps knew that there was nothing there, but if there was even the smallest chance of maybe *something* existing in that potential space...
