    Wow I have a nine-year-old HRX and I have been changing oil and replacing filters and spark plugs even sharpening the blade, but I need to start showing this machine a little love. Great video thanks for the tips!

    I'm upset that I haven't seen your videos sooner. You drop so much knowledge in this video. Like a dad guiding his adult son how to maintain this machine. I bought a HRX217HYA 3 years ago and will be following your advice.

    Have a yard full of mowers I have to go through. SO much easier watching it be done LOL. Not only twigs but stones from the driveway that the snow blower distributes that I missed picking up, I use the old blade for the first couple of cuts.

      LOL that's how I feel the past 2 days!
      I saw an awesome electric and a gas powered drum broom from I think Ryobi! Its a rubber drum that spins with treads and shoots the rocks off the lawn back on the driveway!! Sick!!
      Yea,, those rocks suck! Careful,, glass hates rocks,, so does paint on cars and stuff lol,,,,,,,,I bet U know that hehehehe
      Poor blade,,,,,

    Nice one, Arch. I'm going to get some paint filters for my funnels. I, too, like seeing the fuel that I am putting in. Great idea! I like the black on black on Grey look. Most of the black tanks that I see are on Honda engines on other branded machines so not as plentiful. Also, maybe spraying black on the wheels?

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad 2 help,,Good 2 know someone else likes to see their fuel and not just dump it blind!! Think of all the headache we wont have!
      I've been collecting tanks for a while now,, Got a Huge box of them! Mostly red but a few black now.
      Not a fan of Painting wheels..Pattay does that..
      Plastic doesn't take paint well. Even with Krylon Fusion paint.. Wheels are one of the points of contact to the ground, obstructions, curbs, bricks.. It would scape off quickly then look like crap in short order.
      Then ya gotta live with it! Not A Fan! lol

    Your video is cool. I like your approach and how you talk to the camera. Good job sir. Why don't you do a full carb adj video as that is what seems to go haywire on these with the gov assy. Subscribed WKC

      Thanks Bud,,, It very difficult to get videos done and published!
      I have many in the 'Can' as we say and one is just as you described but I haven't released it .
      On occasion these engines will not run right and I caught one on video!
      It was a real pain, I do think about this video often and at some point I will release it!

    Great video I subscibed,I live in Canada my 18yr. Old craftsmen lawnmower was getting old like me,I'm 64 soon so i researched for a new lawnmower and bought the Honda hrx 217 hzx,loved it only used 3x that season followed my honda book to store for winter,brought out for 2020 wouldnt start,called Dewildt my dealer i purchased it from said bring it in ,after 3 weeks charged me 80$ to clean cup under carburetor, which i said that is not in honda book brought home used it until got approximately 5hrs of use did first oil change myself, used that season was great,brought out in 2021,was great,brought out in 2023 3rd time out after 3 row passes on lawn not long grass my lawnmower literally blew up leaving one inch hole in the block on left side standing behind it,took back to dealer tech guy was shocked they had never seen that before they told me 2wks later didnt know why it blew up i said must of been defective the i went in on Saturday tech was off that day some student read off computer to me was 489$ for repair i asked if was under warranty he didnt know i said call me when u know,never heard nothing called tech. He said he called customer service and they said no he recommended that i call, i did after a month calling 4 or 5 times the customer service rep. Told me they said no good will because dealership told them lack of lubrication so i called tech back and asked how u came up with lack of lubrication and that honda refused to help me so i said go ahead and fix it which he replied i told u your lawnmower is not worth fixing which i don't recall that ,called customer service back and said i want to speak to someone higher up she said ill make a not told her to email me that was almost a week ago no responce in your professional opinion what do you think happened to my lawnmower any suggestions

      Wow,, crazy story!! Sorry but TH-cam doesn't give us notifications consistently!
      I want to chat about this on my Saturday live show,, this week, its around 8:30 pm est
      That is a lube issue, did anyone check the oil at any point?
      Usually we change the oil after the 1st season of use.

    Good name for those Honda fuel clips Arch right on they are a real pain. Looks like grass does not stick to the composite plastic decks or did you clean and power wash the underside? Nice to see someone using prefilters that is the way to service any mower air filtration system. Not only will it increase the life of the paper filter it will keep more fine debris entering the carb to cause fuel related issue. Well done Arch me man!

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Ya absolutely right,,, I need to put those pre-filters on my list.. I only use those on the really nice machines.
      This is the Nexite deck,,, seems to be a better plastic AND I sprayed it a few years back with automotive enamel clear. I do that for many machines on the higher end.
      This machine does get care! Once every few years a full clean and lube then I do what I shoed, often with just a hose.
      I don't gotta tell you guys! You know,, a little luv goes a long way! I try to inspire the rest to get out there and enjoy these machines, they can offer great life and service.

    Thank you for the video!
    I seen you use your chainsaw lube which I don't have...
    Can you recommend I use Blaster Dry Lube with Teflon spray in place of the chainsaw spray?
    Your thoughts and feedback is much appreciated. 👍

      @TheNovaJohn  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks!!
      Here's a link to what I use.
      Although I do want to try the teflon lube. I used it years ago. Some things work but tend to not last.
      I think adding to the list would be lithium spray as well

    What kind of table is that you use to place the mowers on when you work on them ? I’d like one that goes up and down for loading and unloading it . I’m 60 now and I could really use something like that to make it easier on my old bones

    I use compressed air. Each and every time your finished mowing you need to clean out the wheel areas under the deck and grass shoot. In the long run you will not see rust...

    • @TheNovaJohn

      Nice,,,,yours will last a long time....
      I just ran the pressure washer over mine after working on other machines,,I gotta get back to check it and leave it in the sun!
      As soon as I got done we had a massive thunderstorm,,I just got everything put away...
      I often do what you do and also to my tractor too!

    I just bought a used HRX217. It runs well but has not had a decent servicing in it’s life beyond oil change & air filter. Should the valves be adjusted as part of winter service.

    I have the exact same mower, I purchased it as non working, I replaced the carburetor and starts up like new. The only problem now is when I engage the blade the engine turns off. What’s causing this? Please help

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  20 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hard to say, I cant see what you did or what ya have!
      I picked up a Honda recently; the person put a new carb on it, it was the wrong one and he didn't install it correctly. I couldn't have run properly if at all! It was discarded and I got it cheap.

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I spoke on this last nights live show. I should mention this more often.
      Most of the machines I get or work on are older and often beat up.
      There is wear and we can see this in the old oil.
      I use the Shell Rotella, T-5 semi synth for diesel engines. This is more of the Off Road oil.
      Where I live, most don't service their machines, they break them after abuse!

      @@TheNovaJohn Thank you! Instead of gasoline have you tried kerosene? Just curious.

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes,,, Gas is more volatile, in a way a bit more aggressive like Lacquer thinner but safer for seals.
      Most of our rubber seals are made for Gas
      Kero can cause seals to swell,,,

    In-between the rear wheel adjusters and the deck, there are cavities in the plastic that will be completely filled with clippings and dirt. The only way to get it out, is to remove the adjuster. Very crappy design.

    • @TheNovaJohn
      @TheNovaJohn  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I was just chatting about this on my Saturday night live show!
      Yea,, kinda crappy but all of the rear drive machines from top brands share the same issues with this.
      On the Honda because its plastic it needs that extra ribbing,,
      I've taken good care of mine but what also happens is the entire assembly needs to come apart to have the axels polished and bearings properly cleaned!
      Rust and debri build up and remove the clearances needed for operation,,
      Mine is old now!
      Better this condition then when the rust and crap with zero service leads to it all worn out!
