      Tbh, most of them make me feel bad and/or lazy for not putting so much effort into my meals. Truth be told, I could eat the same leftovers for days straight and be fine (I have done this). I don't really care about food but I do enjoy sweets every now and then.
      It makes me think about food way more often, which usually then transitions into thinking about my weight. I know, despite the face I'm still 180 lbs at 5'8.

      as long as the videos are realistic and show a good/healthy amount of food and not like" a smoothie and a salad is all I ate today and it was soo much, here is how you can do it too(how to eat less food)" or anything like it. I like watching them. 🤷‍♀

      l
      But on days where I watch them (idk why) I mostly feel bad about the things I eat/ate that day and also feel like sh*t about my body.

      I have a mixed opinion!
      I think the pros of these videos are:
      - introducing people to new meal ideas
      - motivating people to eat more nutritious meals
      - and inspiring people to live a more healthy and active lifestyle
      And the cons are:
      - sometimes these videos are unrealistic and not everyone can afford to live like that
      - negative comparison e.g body, lifestyle, aesthetics
      - they can make people forget that every body is different and not everyone needs the same amount of food. Someone could look at what these girls are eating and feel like they are eating too much or too unhealthy which can make them feel guilty so they start to restrict what they eat and become obsessive over calories, nutrition and weight

    Sis I’m screaming . I’ve said this before , majority of the most viewed what I eat in a day videos of ones of people who are mostly white and thin, or thin celebrities. People watch more on the base of the aesthetic of the body of the creator not even on the curiosity of what the person is eating . There are so many people who are not thin who get dragged if they are not eating clean , yet thin people can eat whatever and there’s crickets.

      @awtumn ปีที่แล้ว +70

      Agreed. This is the exact reason why I do not use TikTok anymore. Although I enjoyed watching the 'what I eat in a day videos' for food inspo purposes, I'd notice people who weren't skinny were getting shamed. Shamed for choosing not to eat clean in every clip. It's like people forget that you don't have to eat clean 24/7. You can eat whatever the hell you want as long as you eat in moderation. People only seem to care about aesthetics nowadays..
      Edit: To those reading this; eat the food that makes you feel good. Food that you like to eat. Don't force yourself to eat food(s) that you don't enjoy; whether it be "healthy" or not.

    • @futuristicgirl14
      @futuristicgirl14 ปีที่แล้ว +29

      I agree it’s about the aesthetic but I do notice that food is a lot more balanced and colorful on the plates with thin girls, and a lot of heavier girls tend to either have massive portions of healthy foods or are binging on processed snacks. Let’s be real, it’s definitely a mix of portions AND the types of food being eaten that lead to skinnier or fatter bodies. And that’s okay

    I grew up in Jamaica. Here, when the idea of a healthy lifestyle comes up, as in people wanting to eat more nutritionally packed foods, it's usually presented as moderate and affordable. Not just exercising, but drinking more natural teas, finding more home remedies and eating more 'ital' food. Healthy eating on tiktok looks VERY expensive as well as very pressuring. Certain foods are not accessible down here or cost an arm and a leg. So, if you don't watch yourself you'll feel like you're not doing anything right.
    I genuinely want to be healthier, and I know so many others do, that's why I try to follow people with more 'price-range fitting' habits and old recipes. It hurts me more though, knowing that there are people that can't even afford medicine, healthy-balanced meals or even treats. The worst thing you could possible do is create a society where a healthy lifestyle seems to be a privilege.

Also usually only drink water cause I can't handle a lot of salt or sugar at one time. But yeah it feels relatively easier to eat relatively healthy meals and fruits and veggies down in JA. Just that their ingredients are foreign to us so more expensive, same as our fruits are more expensive to them, i just try to swap out fruits n veggies based on nutritional benefits.

    One of the biggest problems with Tiktok's "healthy" eating is that it's become a very narrow ideal of "healthy". Matcha, salmon, salads, lemon/chia water... all great and yummy foods, but you can't deny that it's weird that *many* WIEIAD influencers share very similar diets. with a european family, the appreciation and love for food was so prevalent throughout my childhood and still is now. I've been taught to love food and be thankful for it, to enjoy what I eat but to, of course, eat things within balance. And its amazing. It has taught me that eating a lot of food is nothing to be ashamed of, but taking care of yourself is important too and knowing when to stop. I've been able to live my life with joy just because I've been taught to love food and love myself. It doesn't sit well with me how much these standards and expectations of a "proper" and "healthy" diet is pushed onto people, especially young girls. It will do nothing to you but make you miserable if it's the one thing you prioritise in your life.

    One's "healthy" lifestyle shouldn't be just an aesthetic you show off to feel people feel bad about themselves but a life-long mindset. Once I started doing things for myself and not for other people's validation I became so much happier, once I realized that eating "clean" makes me feel good and my gut happy I got used to the new diet really fast, however, a healthy lifestyle doesn't mean you don't treat yourself to some ice cream or a pizza every now and then. It is also important to remember that everyone's body is different and has different needs. So many factors are often overlooked.
    In conclusion: Food is your friend, not your enemy. Eat food that fuels your body AND your happiness.

She had me track my eating habits for a week so she could see where we needed to make changes, and I was genuinely shocked to see how little I was eating. I never ever consciously restricted my calories, I wasn't intentionally starving myself, I really thought I was eating a regular amount, but every single day that week, I had over 1000 calories left in my recommended daily amount.

I would definitely recommend you to have someone who is very close to you help you with that. Maybe you could tell them earnest how you currently feel. A big help for me was my dad who encouraged me to eat. What also helped me was actually trying everytime I looked in the mirror to find something I like about myself, it started with things that didn't have anything to do with my body like my hair and eyes but slowly I felt also better about my body. I know from myself how hard it is, my eating disorder started when I was your age but now I am 23 and still have days where I catch myself not eating because I didn't like what I was seeing in the mirror.

      Honestly, everyone should eat as much as they need to feel full (as in "not hungry" not "about to burst" full). Personally some of the portions in the video look giant to me and I could probably stretch them out for an entire day. Some people look at me weird when they see my portion size and assume I am obsessed with counting calories and whatnot but the truth is that I just don't need much food to get full and I don't often feel hungry at all. Some of my relatives tried to make me eat a normal size portion at some point and I either make them mad by not finishing it and "wasting food" or I get very very sick. So yeah, listen to your body, not what other people tell you. Especially not people on social media.

    Constantly having highly processed foods aka “junk food” literally changes the chemicals in your brain and causes food addiction (similar changes to a person addicted to drugs) this goes for everyone no one is an exception. Junk food does this to the brain but healthy natural foods does not.
    This is why I think it’s gross that people hate on healthy eaters. Your personal issues should never be a excuse to attack someone for literally eating clean. Just like how I’m aware people eating junk food, may trigger my binge eating- but I just skip them and don’t leave accusations on their TikTok’s. Self accountability is so rare.

I treat that stuff like alcohol (in moderation) yeah this video leaned a little too far on the "not taking accountability for your own health" side. As it is right now the average American consumes wayy too much sugar and oil seriously its in everything.
      That said treats are fine if its balanced and people shouldn't hate themselves for having cake, just in proportion to your total intake

      I already provided 2 links to actual articles on why you are wrong. There are not that big of differences between “high processed” or “junk foods” and “natural” or “organic” foods. Most food has sugar in it, sugar can be naturally occurring in foods. The body cannot differentiate between processed or naturally occurring sugars. Some processed foods can have more unnecessary added sugars, keyword is can.

I am happy that I got out of the eating disorder and now fully embrace my foodie-side! I love creating colourful healthy meals and salads, but if its not filling enough, I just add bread for example. What helped me with snacking, is smaller portions (I have some chocolate everyday) AND eating what I really love. I dont really care for crisps and fries, so I seldom eat them... its a waste of caloried that I can spend better... I do care for cake, cocktails and cheese... Since I started doing this, I seldom feel 'guilty' because I really enjoyed that cake.

My recommendations are almost all food videos which I love because I’m a bit of a foodie, but I also notice it is taking a toll on my mental health. I haven’t been diagnosed with an ED but have definitely noticed my relationship with food become more negative and complicated. I hate eating a handful of this and a handful of that because it doesn’t fit into a pretty picture of meals of the day like I see online. I feel stressed choosing what to eat every day because it’s so hard to determine what’s “right”. But life is messy. Some days your friend will share a box of donuts and you want to enjoy it with her. Some days you will eat late at night even when you’re not “supposed” to. And some days you will have an aesthetic avocado toast and smoothie. I’m still trying to learn that all of those things are ok.

    currently reading "the subtle art of not giving a f*ck" by mark manson, and something that really stuck with me is this quote;
    "It lasers in on what you perceive your personal shortcomings and failures to already be, and then emphasizes them for you. You learn about the best ways to make money because you feel you don’t have enough money already. You stand in front of the mirror and repeat affirmations saying that you’re beautiful because you feel as though you’re not beautiful already. You follow dating and relationship advice because you feel that you’re unlovable already. You try goofy visualization exercises about being more successful because you feel as though you aren’t successful enough already.”
    and then it goes on to say that our crises are not longer material, but existential and spiritual. and by not giving a f*ck about them, it simply lets us laser in less and focus less on the "problems" that we think we have, and let life take its natural course.
    so what if we apply this to "tips on how to be happier" and "what i eat in a day" and other like-situations? it changes our entire perception.
    i'm still reading the book but i would recommend! thanks zoe xx

    Like why do we believe social media clips/films so much? Films and photos have been staged for hundreds of years and that is okay. It is okay for me to see super asthetic bowls on a super clean and modern kitchen counter. Within super saturated food with good lighting.
    While my counter is dirty. My bowl plain. My food grey and my kitchen light ugly yellow.
    I wouldn't film that.

    I love the video. I used to compare myself for how I eat compare to the white skinny girls that never seem to gain weight no matter what, and never don't stop working out. Sometimes I feel good for then that they are happy and skinny you know they reached their goal, but other times I just feel like they are flexing. Such a great video Zoe. You just keep spitting facts. 💯

    I was basically the thick latina at almost size 16 when I was 16. My doctor said that I was unfortunately eating too much unhealthy foods and high cholesterol. A toxic online dating with a guy 7 years older than me led me to stress eat. Years pass and now I'm eating less unhealthy food to prevent high cholesterol but unfortunately anemic & known to syncope at random times. I went down to size 12, but unfortunately clothes are starting to fit loose on me. I lost my butt just because I cut down on unhealthy stuff and my job is industrial work.

    One thing that is very true for me, I loooove watching What I Eat In a Day, but I'm ALWAYS thinking... they eat so little food, as you said, their lunch is like a snack for me, I always thought that was soooo weird.
    I'm vegan and I follow a lot of vegan influencers (big and small) and I'm always surprised about their portions because I eat A LOT MORE (and it's normal but it gets you thinking)

    I have a cheat day or two in the week.. Usually when I'm with my friends, family or just for myself so that I don't feel guilty or punch my head on the fridge cause if I don't eat some 'junk food' I'm gonna obsess over it until I binge and feel terrible afterward .. It also helps alot with my motivation to start the week and workouts knowing I treated myself.
    I'm still figuring out my relationship with food, trying to cook healthier , working out and all.. It's not easy, but it's a good start which to me is the most difficult part. Never forget to enjoy yourself once in a while!

  • @vl8518

    tbh i am a skinny girl and i do eat whatever i want. while i do attribute that to a good metabolism, i find that the biggest thing i do is portion control. i dont eat 3 big meals a day, but rather i eat every few hours multiple times a day since the feeling of my stomach stretching from overeating usually hurts or feels uncomfortable. another thing that really helps is i try not to snack and if i do its something a bit healthier like seaweed snacks or a banana with peanut butter.

    I struggled with a severe untreated eating disorder ages 15 to 17. I was constantly overdosing on laxatives and one day I had a severe overdose. Only then something clicked in my brain and I was like "Okay, either I try to heal or I will end up being fertilizer". Eating disorders are tough, it's hard to heal. I personally still suffer from the after math , since all of the pills and starvation lead to me developing two ulcers. No clothing size, beauty trend or look is worth it

    When the trend started, I immediately noticed that those videos triggered me, and I avoid them to this day. I do not have the money, time or self-control to follow diets like that, and every time I have tried, I ended up stopping because I just couldn't keep it up, and ultimately felt horrible. Although I agree that maybe they don't have bad intentions, I honestly wish that trend fades soon.

    Bruh the two different sides mirror my brain and how I eat. For years I will have a stretch where I am a health nut and i watch videos like that, then I slowly begin binging on fast foods and such that make me feel like crap and I’ll watch videos with people eating junk food. That’s wild. Thank you for helping me realize that

    i think it's best to eat when you're actually hungry and eat how much you need. ofc treat urself with dessert and snacks every now. i won't lie, i like my abs a bit toned cuz i just feel more confident with it. it's something i can work on naturally so the question i had was why not? and this is a personal opinion! if people want to eat what they want to eat, i literally couldn't care less. and if they're healthy with such a diet, kudos to them.
