The biggest block for me is my eating disorder (going through cycles of binge-eating and restricting to the the point where you have no more energy to get through the day)
Hey Zoe! My roadblock to my health journey is I'm afraid of gaining too much muscle and not getting the frame I actually hope for/work for. PS: Your videos are amazing! I'm always happy when I get your video notifications!
I agree with "starving doesn't help with metabolism". I used to be super thin and last year I gained some weight. Thinking that I should lose weight, I ate barely and starved myself. I was always hungry and didn't have energy at all. Then suddenly I started to gain weight so quickly. Only then I understood that starving isn't a good option
@@kelv5754 i think just eating your regular 3 meals a day would be good. if you dont eat a lot, the next time you eat your body will take more nutrients from the food than usual, so you just want to eat normally and stay active.
The "puffy skinny" is exactly the same as my body type right now, you couldn't have described it better. This video is super helpful thank you so much.
if becoming active sounds intimidating to anyone, I really recommend long walks! Finding a good podcast or music to listen to and going on a morning/evening walk is a really nice way to stay active
There's also an endless amount of workouts that can be done right at home, even without equipment or weights. I workout at home 3/4 times a week cause I'm also very self conscious in public and wouldn't feel comfortable in the gym either. Best of luck to everyone who's doing their thing.
I already know all this and still find myself going down the rabbit hole of starvation, especially on my lower self esteem days. Hearing it again every once in a while is such an important reminder, thank you. I will go eat something :)
To any wondering: Pilates is a form of weight training. You do not need to go to the gym and lift weights. If you can’t afford the gym, I you have anxiety about going to the gym, know it is not the only form of exercise that will build muscle and increase your metabolism :)
To boost metabolism - move body ( or metabolism won't improve) -muscle more burn calores than fat -do weight training -stay consistent 'Never starve it will slow metabolic -protien raises bmr (metabolisim) by 20 percent anf fibre
This is so true, I worked at walmart and I lost so much weight from the heavy lifting and got close to abs, I literally lost 20 pounds in 3 months and my metabolism is completely fixed and it has never been like this in my life
@@CandiceSAPA well, you were active at your job I would assume. It’s all calories in, calories out. So while you were eating such things, you were still in a caloric deficit, causing you to lose weight. Certain foods don’t cause you to gain weight. It’s a caloric surplus that causes you to gain weight
Haha you guys are funny yeah active jobs are so nice cause without trying it is like you lose weight just having to survive in the job lol 😂 I don't work at walmart anymore so I gotta start exercising cause I gotta keep it up lol but it has been almost a year tbh
As a nutrition student… girl… you said facts. Im glad to see that you explained this well, like you’ve actually did your research and shared it in a nice way. 👏🏼👏🏼
im in the depths of anorexia hell right now, and your videos & conversations have been the only voice actually getting me to realistically think about recovery & my health…thank u zoe ❤
Hey, I was really sick in May and I couldn’t last any longer so I admitted myself into the hospital. I remember that day so well because I felt like I was going to actually die. My ears were blocked and my walking was super slow, I could think properly and my heart was beating super quickly. I was tired, every day I made myself to awful things to hurt myself. I admitted myself to the hospital and I was scared but I can live now. I can feel free and happy now… please get the help u need love. Recovery is hard but it’s better than feeling trapped and isolated from the world. I love you❤
For those who love home workouts (or just hate the gym), you can do a LOT with a gym mat, resistance bands, and adjustable dumbbells!! You can achieve more than you think with just those 3 items👍
Oh god. Thank you for this information!! As a teen girl that lives in a small village with limited facilities, going out to the city would take at least 1 hour which means I can't go anywhere without a transport aka parents' car. Knowing this will probably boost my motivation to workout even more! Thank you once again.
@@sapphireven825this is definitely true, I come home from uni with all the fitness training to my farm at home, a Chloe Ting challenge and some dog walking a day is all I need in those weeks : )
this actually makes so much sense to me now.. in primary school i used to be super active and i could eat more than i eat now normally without gaining weight. after i started secondary school, i had to focus so much more on my studies and i rarely properly exercised so i gain weight more easily than i used to. once my nationals end im gonna start working out more! edit: finished exams and graduated yesterday. just started running, wish me luck :) edit 2: okay so update I guess, I didn't really manage to stick to my plan because I got a job but that job required me to lift a lot so that actually helped my metabolism but I started school 2 months ago so.. but at my school now we have to run every thursday morning so that's good edit 3: this is embarrassing to post but im graduating again soon after more finals and plan to become a gym rat
As someone with a nutrition degree, that thinks the fitness industry has gone so awry and toxic with all the contradicting views, this video felt like a breath of freash air. Really good tips, give in a realistic approachable way that in the end is really focusing on healty body self care
I am struggling with an ED , currently i am working on having my 3 meals at day n my snacks between each meal also i am starting to workout, n this video really helped me a lot , i still eat with fear but i am better than yesterday n i will be a lot better tomorrow
An other advice to increase your metabolism : sleeping. Your body burns a lot of cals during your sleep. It’s important to have good sleep habits when you try to lose weight. Also it gives you energy and it’s good for your mental and physical health in general. Take care of you guys 💗 + I forgot but it is also important if you want to build muscles because your muscles grow not during but after your training, notably during sleep
i am almost crying beacuse all you said sums up perfectly the moral of my hard long battle. starving might feel good but the healthy body that will carry you and your family is the biggest motivation to never let yourself down so much again, to keep going, to see more of the world. when you really think about it, it's so easy to get back to shape and keep it up. it should be natural. just listen to your body and appreciate it
girl this video has changed my mindset about fitness and weight loss so much!! the people in my life advocating for my weight loss use the approach of "eating less is the most effective part" and how i only need cardio, but you're literally so right about strength training and how exercising for yourself (and lifting those weights!!) makes you feel SO much better about urself. much love
Your guide to metabolism. Hope this helps because it took me a really long time to do XD *1. Metabolism Components* • RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate) o Simply living/doing nothing o Accounts for 60-70% of total energy burned • Activity Level o Working out/going to the gym/playing sports o Accounts for 15-30% of total energy burned • Thermic Effect of Food o Digestion o Effected by what you eat o Accounts for roughly 10% of total energy burned • NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) o Spontaneous movements - pacing/fidgeting/using hands while talking o Accounts for 5%+ of total energy burned • BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate) *2. Boosting Metabolism* • Exercise o Resting metabolic rate is dependent on your activity level • Higher Muscle Mass o Lean muscle mass determines 74-80% of BMR *3. Food* • Never EVER starve yourself • Your diet is a whole painting o A painting needs a little of everything • Food types o Fats raise your BMR 0-5% o Carbs raise your BMR 5-10% o Proteins raise your BMR 20-30% Proteins build muscle, and more muscle raises your RMR o Fiber Takes more energy to digest More satiating because it absorbs more water in your GI (Gastrointestinal) tract Naturally comes with vitamins and phytochemicals from the plant source *4. Final Tips* • Exercise to become stronger, not to burn calories. • Focus on being healthier overall, not just losing weight. • Build muscle. • Everyone started somewhere, even those gym bros.
I went from 165cm 50kg-39kg when I was twelve years old from starving myself. I started to faint a lot and my hair was falling out. Even then, I didn’t dare eat more than 1000 calories and was always, ALWAYS calculating! (The only benefit was my math got better, and I have to admit, I did LOOK good wearing certain clothes). However, on the inside, I was dying, struggling, anxious, and wasn’t able to concentrate. I’m looking back, it’s really a MIRACLE how I still managed to have straight A’s and all that. Now I’m 15 and after years of counseling and trying my best ignoring my family’s toxic weight talks (which happens almost every hour and was the root of the problem), I got a streak of not weighing myself for 2 months! (Yes it was horrifying, but oh my, did it release me for minutes at a time!! I found peace for the first time.) however, as do all bad weight loss creates, I went through years and years of binging (oftentimes taking over my schoolwork, making me late to classes, etc) and starving myself, making it hard to do homework. Before grade 9, I even lost my social life because my life revolves around calculations of calories and schoolwork. Even though I gained more weight than I initially had when I was 12, and I’m still thinking about it more than I’d like to, I’m AT LEAST not fainting and losing my hair like crazy (that’s an upside!) As someone who had anorexia for years, I really appreciate this video, talking about how the weight loss methods you see online just aren’t sustainable. You are lucky if they didn’t almost kill you.
Your story is heartbreaking to me, but I am glad to see you are on your way to recovery! I had anorexia from 13-15 (I am 22 now), and I felt the same way back then as you do now. You will make it through this period! If no one has told you, the weight gain that comes with recovery also comes with a really cool side effect... a really strong and fast metabolism! I have been recovered for 7 years, and I still have a faster metabolism than many my age. Ofc, recovery also comes with other important benefits, like less intrusive thoughts, freedom from fear of calories/weight gain/ other anxieties you might have, and a better social life (less Ana thoughts = more space to think about other things). I believe in you!
From someone who’s gone through that before and made it out: you HAVE to gain weight while you’re growing. It’s literally in the word: you’re growing. So no matter what, you’re going to weigh more than you were when you were a kid, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s fat. Another thing, if you gain a little bit of fat before you’re 19 or so, just remember that it’s baby fat and your body is storing it to make you taller and more adult looking if you know what I mean. I’m saying this not to discourage you, but because it really messed w my head when it happened to me. I got a little bit of chub when I hit puberty and I couldn’t get rid of it no matter what I tried. And then, all of the sudden, I grew taller and got a bit curvier and the baby fat was gone. It’s a part of development. That’s why I’m so so so against dieting as a minor, especially under the age of 17.
I have watched a lot of fitness, metabolism, and “weight loss“ videos… And I have to say this one was probably my favorite, because you focused on living your life, not restricting yourself, and overall taking care of your body! And having a love for taking care of your body! Thank you ♥️
i don’t think you understand how helpful this video is!! I’ve been struggling with my body and wondering why i’m not losing weight when i barely eat but you’ve really opened my eyes and helped me learn a lot!! Thank you!! ❤️❤️💕
I remember walking around the mall for 2 hours on purpose in college because my next class was in 3 hours, would eat anything I want and was thin with only around 19% body fat. now that Im working and because of the pandemic im doing that close to never and have gained so much weight. Thanks for this, inspiring me to go out more often and moving.

I wanted to share my personal story if this can help anyone. I was always a fat child, pictures of me when I was younger my upper arms have always been thick, genetics, and I’ve always had a huge belly. To the point I couldn’t even see my toes when I about 9, my parents were very polarizing my mother tried to feed me healthy meals and my father would just hand me a bag of chips or a whole pack of grapes and I would eat the whole bags because I knew he wouldn’t feed me anything else. Since my mom is the only one that works she really relayed on my dad to make sure I was healthy, but he did the exact opposite. He was disabled at 25 because of diabetes. When I was 14 I met my first bf he was 17, it was a very horrible relationship. He was very controlling and took advantage of me because my family was middle class he was lower class so he would take my money my parents gave me for emergency reasons and even would check my bag for money. During that time he would tell me to lose weight because “we would break up with me if I didn’t lose any weight”. That scared me to death because I really loved him and I wanted to be with for forever. So I wouldn’t eat anything for 6 days a week, only drink 1 bottle of water, and only ate when I saw him which was once a week, we went to different schools. When I did see him we would only eat a hoagie that we would split and split a bag of chips, and that cycle continued for 5 years. I was at my lowest weight in my life which was 140, I felt excited but then again when I looked at pictures my arms were still thick, I still had belly fat, my skin looked so dull and sickly, my eyes even looked so sad which I was. When I was in Senior year, I met a guy that was mutual friends with almost all of my friends and really helped me snap out of it, we talked for a few months and became good friends, the one thing he said was “Are you happy?” And I said “yeah” and he said “No, are you really happy?” And I paused and started crying uncontrollably and was even mad like wanting to scream and hit things he just hugged me and even said “you can hit me if you need to”. I broke up with my ex literally just saying “I want to break up” and my ex smiled and said “Okay” and I hung up, he thought I was joking. I already cried enough for him, I already hurt my body enough for him, I put up with it for so long and I was finally done. Me and my new friend started hanging out more and more. Eventually, he worked up the courage to tell me he liked me. We got together in 2019 and have been together since then. But 2020 hit and we dropped like everyone else, we gained an extraordinary amount of weight to the point. This is the highest I’ve ever been in my life, which is 240. I haven’t had any health problems and neither has he but we don’t want to start having health problems we’re both 21 now, even with our weight gain we are still incredibly happy our love has never changed. We both are going to start working out but our main things we don’t want to change our diet, we live a more Korean diet, rice, side dishes and meat for every meal is a must. I don’t think any Asians can give up white rice which a lot of people say “Cut out all carbs, have only lean meats with no fat, no sugary drinks” which yes those would ultimately help you lose weight but to never have noddles and rice or to only have it once a week is impossible for us, let alone his number 1 favorite meal is grilled pork belly with rice lol. I’ve been following Zoe since he cut out all sugar for a whole year. I’m very happy she’s doing well health wise, but now we need to step up our game. Thank you very much for making this video, it really helps people like us that are struggling. I completely destroyed my metabolism for 5 years and now it’s time for me to heal it and nurture it. Thank you for anyone that reads my story and you aren’t alone. ❤️❤️
Hi sam i just wanna say thnk u so much for writing this coz i have been obese since childhood nd my highest weight was 140 as well i tried losing it nd went to 127lbs but ended up gaining weight nd now i m worse at 147lbs but ur motivation nd mindset just made me soo happy nd now i wanna get back on track nd begin my fitness journey again. I m so glad that u fought through ur toxic relationship nd have finally found happiness. Also i m asian as well so 100% agree on the rice part 😂 without it our life seems incomplete haha. Hope u achieve ur dreams. Peace✌
Thank you!! Good to know that there is a way to not have my metabolism messed up forever. Messed it up by starving myself when I was a gymnast and it has not been the same since!! But this gives me hope 😇
FINALLY someone that’s straight to the point and doesn’t try to sell you anything! Thank you! I’ll definitely keep this in mind and try and adjust my workout style to this!
god i suffered five years of weight gain after adolescence, during this time i went through all the terrible periods of life of not accepting myself, watching a lot of videos about losing weight and healthy eating, trying different medicines that harmed my health, but this video is one of the best I have ever watched and which changed my vision. I’m so grateful to the author, this information is so valuable, she made a great conclusion from all aspects of losing weight
I'm tired of... Well, being tired. So this video was pretty inspiring! Thanks! Also, totally agree on the need to have your goals to be something sustainable, like good health and feeling well. Now it's time for me to get started...
Every time I see your video titles or just any fitness youtuber in general I go "are they fr?" and I'm usually skeptical. But I swear, all of your videos that I've watched are SO informative. You bring up points that I don't see others bringing up and you seriously boost my confidence a lot! Thank you!
i have struggled with an eating disorder for years however have recently started focusing on my health rather then my weight. i am honestly feeling so much better for it but was still slightly unsure whether i was doing the right thing. i watched this video out of curiosity and the way you explained everything was perfect. this was very relatable to me in so many ways and made me feel so much more confident that i am taking positive steps towards feeling comfortable in my body :) thank you
You really don’t know how much this helped me! I started going to the gym with the goal of strengthening my body and it has been effectively motivating me, but i would be lying if i say some days skipping just sounds tempting. My advice is work hard but make sure to rest well and eat well to avoid burn out. Be grateful for tour body and believe in the strength you have. Also affirming when i feel weak or lazy been great 👏
Your videos have helped me deal with my own weight journey and I'm so so proud that I found your videos🥺❤️very very proud of you and everything that you have accomplished thus far. I love you so so much. You are my biggest inspiration 💝🥑💝❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
i’m recovering from anorexia and bulimia and my biggest problem is that my metabolism is so fucked from years of relapsing, eating nothing then binging for ages, i appreciate you so much for this
I am struggling with an ed. I lost a lot of weight last year by eating very low cal and exercising a ton. Now I am at a point where I'm getting hungrier, eating 1 meal a day, somehow gaining weight and getting puffy. This is the first video that has truly inspired me to start strength training and eating more without fear. I am so scared of weight gain, but if I keep living the way I am now, then I'm setting myself up for long term negative effects. Man, why do I make life difficult...
Something to remember is that sometimes, weight gain comes with building muscle. Also, there is an amount of fat your body needs to function well. What's that number, no idea whatsoever. The biggest problem with restriction I learned a few years back is that it can ignore that not all fats and calories are the same
I went through the same thing. Starving myself and getting to my lowest weight only to gain more than I already weighed when I started binging. Definitely recommend to eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner, focus on protein and fiber, and don’t feel guilty for feeling hunger! Our bodies need food to survive.
Yes ! And remember, muscle also weighs more than fat, so you could look completely different than you'd expect after gaining weight. Gaining weight does not always equal gaining fat, and gaining fat isn't a bad thing. As someone who wished I knew this younger, since I was heavier than most my age because I was also physically strong. Weight is not definitive, it's an indicator at most, and I really wish u luck!
@@americameza8450 Hey! I would like to know how much you're supposed to work out? Is one hour of cardio and one hour of home exercise enough? I've always been thought that the more you eat the more weight you gain so I'm wondering if i'm supposed to work out more than i eat?
@@viky8032 you only gain weight if you’re constantly over eating. If you’re not you’re fine you won’t gain weight over night! An hour of any type of movement is more than enough! Food is fuel
idk but i actually started crying because of this video, i did a lot of fitness and weight training last year but during my finals i could not keep that up and kinda fell in a hole of overeating and never working out again, i’m feeling extremely bad not only about my body but also about my mind but you kind of animated me to get into working out again, ready to feel good and happy
honestly, everyone's bodys are different. what works for person A doesnt work for person B. but what doesn't work for anyone is starving themselves, feeling guilty over food, overexercising. Accept your body for the way it is now--not for what it was or what it can be and realize that if weightloss is your goal--it takes a long time. just relax and as long as you making positive strides towards your goal, slowly and steady wins the race.
Your videos are just so valuable, they teach every single person who watches them to be healthy, but you also visually, verbally, and mentally dive deep into topics many people should know about. You are such a huge influence in my life, and I really appreciate everything you do for everyone. ❤️❤️❤️

i have been struggling with an eating disorder for the longest of time and watching your videos makes me want to recover so much in a healthy way thankyou for promoting and emphasizing fitness and being healthy you’ve really changed changed my life and potentially saved me from ending up in the er
I initially clicked on this video looking for a diet plan or some sort of food that aided in weight loss. I just want to say thank you. This video nearly brought me to tears when you started explaining about what a healthy mindset and goals are. I realized that I was so consumed with how I wanted to look, that I didn't care about my health, my relationship with myself, and my body. It was getting to the point where I was just beyond frustrated and depressed because it wasn't working or I couldn't stick to such a low calorie diet due to the amount of hunger I felt. Not only that but it was to the point where I would break down when I saw someone with an athletic build, because of how upset I was with myself that I couldn't have the level of commitment they did, and comparing myself to them became second nature. I am so grateful that you decided to make this video. It really, truly helped more than I can even express with words. From the bottom of my heart, thank you :')
thank you thank you thank you! It is just really nice to hear from someone who has been through this journey and understands what it's like. I've never liked how I look or my size, not to point where I've had an eating disorder thankfully, but it's always in the back of my mind when I see myself in pictures, systematically analyzing how I look, being less self conscious when I wear baggy clothes and occasionally skipping meals just to feel better about myself if I haven't exercised. I really hope that as I grow I can learn to eat what I love and make exercise a regular habit (sometimes it's hard to find the time tho ;) Again, thx!!!!
This is the only video that I sat and listened too that talks about metabolism everybody else’s is just a bunch of bull crap this is genuine and I appreciate that 💯
This is such a great video! I think social media nowadays is just pushing the image of just weight loss or fat loss and not explaining how nutrition and exercise works at all. It’s all very surface level “less calories” rhetoric. Less calories doesn’t necessarily mean you’ll lose weight. And also, when you do lose weight, what’s the goal after? There’s no long term lifestyle change. It breaks my heart to know that there are many people and companies support this “lose weight trend” without explaining why and how. Education is so important for this reason.
Thank you for this video. It nearly made me cry because I’m tired of hating myself, and the anxiety that comes with food. This genuinely gave me a different outlook on life
wow, this is so timely; I was just searching about enhancing metabolism last week. I've been following your ab workout, and I'm not even fat, but I am bloated. Like, I don’t see progress with my workout. It's when I found out that it has something to do with my metabolism. Thank you for your content!!
you’re helping me more than anyone else, i feel hope and am so excited to start my ed recovery, i finally have freedom❤️ i know it’ll be hard at first but i’m willing to make a change because i do not deserve to live like this, i do not deserve to starve, i deserve STRENGTH
dude this video is spot ON! i've been pretty fit for a while now (i.e. 5'9" 130lb pretty consistently) but recently realized that that was probably too skinny for me to be healthy. I wasn't sleeping well, I wasn't eating much (ESPECIALLY not enough protein), and i was doing absolutely ZERO (0) physical activity besides walking to class every day at college. Still, in regards to my eating, I was never starving myself - i just didn't do much during the day, so I was never hungry in return. It wasn't very good for me, but I coasted by because I didn't really have many adverse effects either. These past 2 months though, I've created my own bodybuilding regimen (which is really just heavy lifting for strength that I've begun to truly love) and began to eat A LOT more. And I mean A LOT, to the point of having to get over my body's aversion to eating more by actively trying REALLY HARD to eat more food every sitting. Eating more is underrated-ly hard!! But the point is that, via eating more protein (and more in general), focusing on lifting heavy weights, and making sure to take rest days (i.e. monday wednesday friday strength training, off every other day), I've gained so much muscle and feel SO much healthier. Now I'm 5'9" 146lbs and feel so much stronger and more capable in my body. I'm enjoying food more, my skin is clearer and healthier, and I sleep so much better every night. Gaining weight and muscle has been the best thing I've ever done for my body and I'm only 2 months in! Imagine how much better I'll feel in a year!! All this to say, for anyone who's struggling with eating too little or with fear of being less skinny if they eat more and weight train, PLEASE try it out. I know it's so hard to quote unquote "risk" gaining weight, but if you started at a weight that was as unhealthy as mine, I promise that you'll feel better once you gain some muscle and eat as much as your body needs. I was scared to eat more too, but to anyone reading this, YOU'VE GOT THIS BRO! i believe in you and taking care of your body is the best gift you can give yourself. Be kind to your meat suit and your meat suit will be kind to you
I feel like the best thing about starting working out with strength training from a complete beginner point is that you see progress happening the fastest. I used to work out regularly, got off track and out of my routine, then slowly just stopped altogether, and I've just recently picked it up again. I can't wait to see progress again!
Your videos are so helpful and have really genuine and important content. The gym is such a good place to loose weight, as someone who had anxiety and depression, it really helped me when I saw the results and even more when I realized that everyone at the gym don't even pay attention to other people's exercises.
GIRLBOSS!! And you are so right I used to work out for weight loss and body goals and… I couldn’t stay committed it felt like torture. Now I go to the gym to get stronger and build muscles and it’s fun ! It’s so exciting to see the weight I lift go up. And then sometimes I catch myself in the mirror and am happy with what’s changed, but in the end I feel very healthy and so excited to work out
I can kinda confirm that what she's saying is true. my mom and I are dieting to lose weight and I noticed that she's losing weight faster than me. and I think this is because she's the one who started exercising along with dieting, so I think I know what I need to fix with myself too. I'm so glad I found this video
This video is amazing, really! I’ve been dealing with a lot of eating disorders for the past 7 years. This video makes me realize many things and makes me cry a bit, I confess. Now, i know what i have to do for myself. Thank you so much
I completely relate. I have been a healthy weight for a long while now but I still think about food negatively constantly. Recently I started going to the gym and I have to say that I feel so much better. Although my ed is still around I feel healthier and don't feel bad about myself when I eat more than usual. I really want to maintain this and I believe I will feel even better in summer when I can actually go outside and be active. Also, being active has helped my mental health in general, especially whenever I feel anxious!
Dude this video has changed my life. I was losing weight rapidly earlier this year but noticed my body fat stayed almost constant. I was already maintaining for a while before this video came out, but mostly focused on not eating so much it would undo my progress. In the months since I watched this I focused on adding more protein, expanding what foods I regularly eat with protein count in mind. I feel so much better, my hair stopped falling out so much, there is muscle definition around my joints which I never had, even when I was a lower weight than now. It's so cool! AND I weighed again for the first time in a while, and despite not actually counting calories in months (apart from occasionally guesstimating new foods idk once a week?) I didn't gain weight and my body fat has gone down!! :) THANK YOU SO MUCH ZOE. I never paid much attention to protein before bc I always associated it with gym bros and having a strict workout routine, both of which are somewhere between boring and scary to me. Thank you for framing it in this way, it really took all the pressure and intimidation around the topic away for me :)
i started counting my calories a week ago bcs i wanted to start exercising but i feel like i’m on the verge of falling into an eating disorder, it quickly became an obsession and came with a guilt feeling. Thank you so much for you video, you helped me realise things ❤
My ED started by counting calories- it all became a numbers game. If you feel its starting to become an issue please look for professional help. Dont let if take hold...it will honestly bring you nothing but misery. Life is short - dont make it shorter!!
hi!! i don’t know if this is ur issue (also i love ur lamp pfp) but visceral fat aka the fat on ur torso and also shoulder /neck fat is only possible to lose with semi-intense exercise, and if ur issue is ur lower half, eat more protien and eat nutritious foods. As someone who starved them self for years and saw their waist go from 26-32 at 600cal a day then started binge eating butter chicken and exercising and lost 3 inches and 20 pounds Only way to make ur body like your ideals (and mainly to be healthy bc ur health matters ur weight doesnt) is to move it and feed it well, bc starving at the bare minimum will catch up in the future and give u an issue that takes so much of ur focus u gain the weight all back
That's how i started too... i never truly starved myself but i wasn't eating the amount of calories i needed for my fitness level. EDs are miserable, for your own sake i beg of you watch out for your health and remember that's what matters... don't listen to anyone who tells you you "HAVE" to lose weight/exercise and become thinner: not social media, fitness influencers, or yourself
So true! I used to hate exercising, my husband had always asked me to join him when he goes jogging but I detested it. But I found it really hard to lose weight even when I went with him. Recently I had a health scare and decided to change our lifestyles to a healthier routine, by eating right and being fit (for health sake only), and now I actually enjoyed doing several workouts/walks everyday and am feeling healthier and the weight loss is really a 'by-product' of this lifestyle change. Thank you for sharing and letting me know that I am on the right track!
I have gone through disorder eating for a year and a half and recently developed anorexia. I’m now so glad to say that I’m in recovery and I’m glad there are ways to boost my metabolic rate.
These types of video where you talk about food, being active and health are my favorite from your channel. It's how I discovered you and you help me so much ! Thanks for this video ❤️🤗
Your story is so like mine. I lost my will to eat after 6 month of starvation + cardio. No hunger no energy, no happiness. Started strength training after learning my lesson and surprise surprise, I’m happy
i was an extremely thin and fit person a few years ago and gained some weight when entering college. i tried to lose it by starving myself completely and rapidly gained all of it back and tons more. it’s really hard to look at old pictures of me and know i basically shredded my metabolism. i’m working on fixing things and losing the weight in healthy ways. thank you for these videos, they’re very helpful! and especially as someone who’s been in my shoes before, it makes me feel less like my situation is hopeless
I just wanted to say thank you. When your channel showed up on my recommendations I thought it was kind of strange, that it didn't have anything to do with me, a 190cm tall man. But for some reason I started watching your videos and wow did i relate lol You've been giving me confidence and motivation to change for the better, with true inspiration and not shaming or anything like that. So thanks a lot, and hope you have a great day :)
Thank you, I'm just starting and my goal isn't weigh loss at all, I want to be stronger and more active because I've always suffered from low energy levels, and hearing you say that weigh loss shouldn't be your end goal gives me further motivation to keep doing what I already do.
Zoe this was SUCH a good video like not only was the content so high value, but the way you edited this was just *chefs kiss* 🤩 usually I get bored watching these kinds of videos, but not only was it engaging, I also realised how many food myths I believed as true that I need to stop. Can you please make a video explaining how you discovered what were the right foods for you and the right amount to be eating? I’m not sure how to go about this!! Lots of love 💗
I honestly often come back to this video whenever I have one of those bad days. It just calms me to hear it all over again that dieting is stupid, because I also only experienced more weight gain whenever I tried to limit my caloric intake. And I KNOW it, but just hearing it from someone else is reassuring
“If you don’t start with a holistic healthy mindset it doesn’t change anything.” Facts. For me it started with myself and dealing with my own trauma. I had to love myself first, and then I made the right choices. It isn’t sustainable otherwise.
I recently just relapsed with my eating disorder.. i havent eaten over 200 calories in wayy over a week and a half. I was going to continue, until i saw this video. Thank you so much, for turning me back to the healthier path of life. Really.. This video and your words, have really helped me again.. starting tomorrow im going to work toward fixing things again.. Thank you
Thank you for making this video. People don’t believe that I barely eat bc I’m chubby, and I’ve tried to explain this concept to them. I was aware of the problem but never knew how to fix it, bc the science of metabolism felt intimidating. This helped me understand what I need to do - now I’ll try to conquer my fear of the gym and concentrate on becoming stronger rather than losing weight. 🤘✨
I came to the same conclusion after trying to take the 'easy' route and starve myself because I convinced myself I hated exercising. I don't even do hard-core workouts, but I noticed I lost weight and it stayed off. I still battle with myself over not restricting myself, but I'm happier then I was before. Thank you for the video, I feel motivated again to go out and move more.
So basically strength training and eating protein and fiber. Can you consider making a video in depth on your workout routine? I’ve been lifting weights for 2 months now and barely seeing results.
I am so glad I saw this video! I went on a diet and I did lose a lot of weight but later I binged-eat because I was depressed during summer and I gained all the weight back and more. I was disgusted with myself and kept trying to go on more extreme diets to lose that weight. I would not eat for a day and the next day I would stuff down a whole bag of whole wheat bread that literally tasted like cardboard, and that just kept cycling. until recently I decided to take it slow and to appreciate myself and my body for how it looks right now. I began going to the gym regularly and kept myself from starving by eating three meals a day because I don't want to trigger another binge. your video kind of confirms this realization I had and also that what I'm doing rn is the right thing to do
Latest what I eat: th-cam.com/video/wunixsIp4nU/w-d-xo.html
Hope this is helpful!💓 What are some roadblocks on your health journeys?
Hi Zoe I love your videos!, for me it’s gotta be stress eating coz no matter what I’m going through stress eating will always be the thing I go to 😭
The biggest block for me is my eating disorder (going through cycles of binge-eating and restricting to the the point where you have no more energy to get through the day)
Zoe....im so proud of you. You have changed into the best version of you, and I admire you. Love from South Africa
Hey Zoe, hope you can set up a weekly gym routine for beginners on what exercises you did and how many sets. I always love your videos ! ☺
Same. I was the same way
You don't need to starve yourself you are beautiful just the way you are
Wowww…… I guess our bodies just want to protect us and think that we’re dying when we don’t eat enough.
what helped instead?
@@kelv5754 i think just eating your regular 3 meals a day would be good. if you dont eat a lot, the next time you eat your body will take more nutrients from the food than usual, so you just want to eat normally and stay active.
The "puffy skinny" is exactly the same as my body type right now, you couldn't have described it better. This video is super helpful thank you so much.
Me too!
OMG RIGHTTT
Sadly I dont think I can fix it because I have a lot of bone density😭
Rounded fatty shoulders, small frame, semi thin limbs, “puffy skinny” describes it perfectly.
fr, same but I’m gonna try and fix it
if becoming active sounds intimidating to anyone, I really recommend long walks!
Finding a good podcast or music to listen to and going on a morning/evening walk is a really nice way to stay active
Than, you cause the gym rlly intimidates me😅
I'd also suggest going to parks during this!
I agree. Walking is so therapeutic and great to relieve anxiety and stress.
There's also an endless amount of workouts that can be done right at home, even without equipment or weights. I workout at home 3/4 times a week cause I'm also very self conscious in public and wouldn't feel comfortable in the gym either. Best of luck to everyone who's doing their thing.
are you the girl that was with her? at 9:11 cuz ur pfp looks similar :0
I already know all this and still find myself going down the rabbit hole of starvation, especially on my lower self esteem days. Hearing it again every once in a while is such an important reminder, thank you. I will go eat something :)
Hope you see this notification as a reminder! We all need that nudge ❤️
Mr 😮
Every time you consider starvation, remind yourself that you are loosing muscles that helps you loose weight!!
treat yourself kindly and go eat something

To any wondering: Pilates is a form of weight training. You do not need to go to the gym and lift weights. If you can’t afford the gym, I you have anxiety about going to the gym, know it is not the only form of exercise that will build muscle and increase your metabolism :)
What if u can’t do Pilates either? Can I just workout at home?
@@destroynotlonely you can do pilates at home! even without a huge reformer machine, you can still do pilates moves

This is so true, I worked at walmart and I lost so much weight from the heavy lifting and got close to abs, I literally lost 20 pounds in 3 months and my metabolism is completely fixed and it has never been like this in my life
I used to work at café and would eat cakes and hot chocolate everyday but lost so much weight some how.
@@CandiceSAPA well, you were active at your job I would assume. It’s all calories in, calories out. So while you were eating such things, you were still in a caloric deficit, causing you to lose weight. Certain foods don’t cause you to gain weight.
I'm 1year into recovery and I'm rooting for you, I know what you're going through 💕
Hey, I was really sick in May and I couldn’t last any longer so I admitted myself into the hospital.

Coming from someone who started out in a tiny room with a yoga mat and a few dumbells... i 100% agree!!
this actually makes so much sense to me now.. in primary school i used to be super active and i could eat more than i eat now normally without gaining weight. after i started secondary school, i had to focus so much more on my studies and i rarely properly exercised so i gain weight more easily than i used to. once my nationals end im gonna start working out more!
edit: finished exams and graduated yesterday. just started running, wish me luck :)
edit 2: okay so update I guess, I didn't really manage to stick to my plan because I got a job but that job required me to lift a lot so that actually helped my metabolism but I started school 2 months ago so.. but at my school now we have to run every thursday morning so that's good

An other advice to increase your metabolism : sleeping. Your body burns a lot of cals during your sleep. It’s important to have good sleep habits when you try to lose weight. Also it gives you energy and it’s good for your mental and physical health in general. Take care of you guys 💗
+ I forgot but it is also important if you want to build muscles because your muscles grow not during but after your training, notably during sleep

i am almost crying beacuse all you said sums up perfectly the moral of my hard long battle.
starving might feel good but the healthy body that will carry you and your family is the biggest motivation to never let yourself down so much again, to keep going, to see more of the world.
when you really think about it, it's so easy to get back to shape and keep it up. it should be natural. just listen to your body and appreciate it
girl this video has changed my mindset about fitness and weight loss so much!! the people in my life advocating for my weight loss use the approach of "eating less is the most effective part" and how i only need cardio, but you're literally so right about strength training and how exercising for yourself (and lifting those weights!!) makes you feel SO much better about urself. much love
Your guide to metabolism. Hope this helps because it took me a really long time to do XD
*1. Metabolism Components*
• RMR (Resting Metabolic Rate)
o Simply living/doing nothing
o Accounts for 60-70% of total energy burned
• Activity Level
o Working out/going to the gym/playing sports
o Accounts for 15-30% of total energy burned
• Thermic Effect of Food
o Digestion
o Effected by what you eat
o Accounts for roughly 10% of total energy burned
• NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis)
o Spontaneous movements - pacing/fidgeting/using hands while talking
o Accounts for 5%+ of total energy burned
• BMR (Basic Metabolic Rate)
*2. Boosting Metabolism*
• Exercise
o Resting metabolic rate is dependent on your activity level
• Higher Muscle Mass
o Lean muscle mass determines 74-80% of BMR
*3. Food*
• Never EVER starve yourself
• Your diet is a whole painting
o A painting needs a little of everything
• Food types
o Fats raise your BMR 0-5%
o Carbs raise your BMR 5-10%
o Proteins raise your BMR 20-30%
Proteins build muscle, and more muscle raises your RMR
o Fiber
Takes more energy to digest
More satiating because it absorbs more water in your GI (Gastrointestinal) tract
Naturally comes with vitamins and phytochemicals from the plant source
*4. Final Tips*
• Exercise to become stronger, not to burn calories.
• Focus on being healthier overall, not just losing weight.
• Build muscle.
• Everyone started somewhere, even those gym bros.
thank you so much
It was really helpful, thank you so much.

We love you
you are better than this video
Proud of you 💛💪🏾
I still don't want to stop starving I'll be obese again
And no one told me that baby fat was a normal thing, so I thought it was just me
I have watched a lot of fitness, metabolism, and “weight loss“ videos… And I have to say this one was probably my favorite, because you focused on living your life, not restricting yourself, and overall taking care of your body! And having a love for taking care of your body! Thank you ♥️
i don’t think you understand how helpful this video is!! I’ve been struggling with my body and wondering why i’m not losing weight when i barely eat but you’ve really opened my eyes and helped me learn a lot!! Thank you!! ❤️❤️💕
i liked how this wasnt an aggressive video on the body and how it works. it was rather encouraging and made simple to understand.
i just want to say i really appreciate your editing skills

I love the way you speak and present yourself; you're so incredibly eloquent and lovely.
idk but i actually started crying because of this video, i did a lot of fitness and weight training last year but during my finals i could not keep that up and kinda fell in a hole of overeating and never working out again, i’m feeling extremely bad not only about my body but also about my mind but you kind of animated me to get into working out again, ready to feel good and happy
I'm recovering from anorexia and your videos are helping me so much keeping a normal image while still learning to be healthy again, thank you sm :)
It’s really refreshing to see someone talk about this and not immediately launch into “starving is good actually”
honestly, everyone's bodys are different. what works for person A doesnt work for person B.
but what doesn't work for anyone is starving themselves, feeling guilty over food, overexercising.
Whenever I lost direction in my weight loss journey you're video pops out. Thank you so much my savior
I'm italian and I love you talking with your hands. I don't understand why people should be pissed off by that. you're so elegant, gentle and delicate. It's part of your personality. I love it!!. thank you for your videooo.
It's so nice to see other people in the comments who's also in an ED recovery. I feel that I'm not alone

i have been struggling with an eating disorder for the longest of time and watching your videos makes me want to recover so much in a healthy way thankyou for promoting and emphasizing fitness and being healthy you’ve really changed changed my life and potentially saved me from ending up in the er
I wish you the best recovery!! ❤️❤️
🎂🎂
I'm currently struggling with an ED, so this is really encouraging for me and gives me a little more hope. Thank you so much for sharing this
thank you thank you thank you!
This genuinely gave me a different outlook on life
Let’s take a second to appreciate how she took out so much of her time to just help us
wow, this is so timely; I was just searching about enhancing metabolism last week.
Be kind to your meat suit and your meat suit will be kind to you
As someone who struggles with an Ed, this is so inspirational for recovery :) when I feel ready to go down the recovery path, I will follow this.
I'm fitter and stronger now in my early 30s than I was in my teens and 20s. It's fantastic when you find the exercise that works for you!
I was gonna skip my workout today... but this video just told me not to! Thanks Zoe!
This video is SO important for girls to watch. To the point, very helpful, and encouraging! What a gem of a video!
I'm glad I watch this video almost went and messed up my metabolism bullet dodged
The gym is such a good place to loose weight, as someone who had anxiety and depression, it really helped me when I saw the results and even more when I realized that everyone at the gym don't even pay attention to other people's exercises.
you said it right “exercising for the sake of becoming healthier and stronger is fun”
yes it really is!
I'm thinking of adding protein since cutting out things never worked for me too! do you do any workouts?
i started counting my calories a week ago bcs i wanted to start exercising but i feel like i’m on the verge of falling into an eating disorder, it quickly became an obsession and came with a guilt feeling.
I also started by counting calories it was such dread to eat food SO PLEASE DONT do it I started losing weight once I stopped counting
hi!! i don’t know if this is ur issue (also i love ur lamp pfp) but visceral fat aka the fat on ur torso and also shoulder /neck fat is only possible to lose with semi-intense exercise, and if ur issue is ur lower half, eat more protien and eat nutritious foods. As someone who starved them self for years and saw their waist go from 26-32 at 600cal a day then started binge eating butter chicken and exercising and lost 3 inches and 20 pounds Only way to make ur body like your ideals (and mainly to be healthy bc ur health matters ur weight doesnt) is to move it and feed it well, bc starving at the bare minimum will catch up in the future and give u an issue that takes so much of ur focus u gain the weight all back
@@minty1693 what do u mean by lower half, also, I’m a vegetarian and don’t like a lot of foods so what do u recommend for protein intake?
Girl your aesthetic is beautiful
These types of video where you talk about food, being active and health are my favorite from your channel. It's how I discovered you and you help me so much ! Thanks for this video ❤️🤗
"never ever starve yourself" I NEEDED TO HEAR THAT. seriously. thank you ♡
Your story is so like mine. I lost my will to eat after 6 month of starvation + cardio. No hunger no energy, no happiness.
Started strength training after learning my lesson and surprise surprise, I’m happy
4:30-5:25 muscle = metabolism 📈
5:30 not sustainable, a healthy mindset for a healthy lifestyle
6:20 ! compounding effect over time
9:20 what u eat
i was an extremely thin and fit person a few years ago and gained some weight when entering college. i tried to lose it by starving myself completely and rapidly gained all of it back and tons more. it’s really hard to look at old pictures of me and know i basically shredded my metabolism. i’m working on fixing things and losing the weight in healthy ways. thank you for these videos, they’re very helpful! and especially as someone who’s been in my shoes before, it makes me feel less like my situation is hopeless
I swear to god this channel is so healing
I just wanted to say thank you. When your channel showed up on my recommendations I thought it was kind of strange, that it didn't have anything to do with me, a 190cm tall man. But for some reason I started watching your videos and wow did i relate lol
You've been giving me confidence and motivation to change for the better, with true inspiration and not shaming or anything like that. So thanks a lot, and hope you have a great day :)
literally thank you so much for this video. I would pay for this.
And I KNOW it, but just hearing it from someone else is reassuring
i’m currently recovering from an ed so i find this video really helpful. thank you for sharing your experience and making videos like this💗
“If you don’t start with a holistic healthy mindset it doesn’t change anything.” Facts. For me it started with myself and dealing with my own trauma. I had to love myself first, and then I made the right choices. It isn’t sustainable otherwise.
Your really helping a lot of us! Like literally you're my therapist 😭❤️💕
you're literally living the life i want 😭 eat anything without gaining weight!🤧
Beautiful video! You really motivate me 🌈 thx, i was very depressed today, now i’m feeling better
i feel so ok after watching this, i’m so excited and i feel so much better. i want to go back to my old self
This is one of the most well-spoken and understanding videos I ever watched. Thank you for sharing your story and being you
pls mukbang 😭😭😭😭 watching u eat food makes me happy seeing u and ur body happy 😭😭😭😭 (oops hope that didnt sound that weird LMFAO 💀)
3:50 yass queen let us see those tutting skills👐🏻✋🏻👉🏻👆🏻🤛🏻🤌🏻💃😂
I came to the same conclusion after trying to take the 'easy' route and starve myself because I convinced myself I hated exercising. I don't even do hard-core workouts, but I noticed I lost weight and it stayed off. I still battle with myself over not restricting myself, but I'm happier then I was before. Thank you for the video, I feel motivated again to go out and move more.
I just love how you don't gatekeep your secrets. 💕
