      Agreed. This is what Chris was made to do. 'Rant on and on about technical details nobody cares about'. I need more of that stuff. I really do. I still watch old F40/F50, RS6/CLS, Huayra & co videos from time to time. I'm really happy Chris got into a place where he can show himself off to the world (Top Gear proper) then, between seasons, bugger off and do the proper stuff for the hardcore fans, and, judging from his videos, for himself.

  • @tyrereviews
    @tyrereviews 5 ปีที่แล้ว +534

    Just a note about the tyres, while the Cup 2 isn't the stickiest dry weather tyre in the Michelin range now (the recently released Cup 2 R is ONLY OE on the 911 GT2 at the moment), it IS still a very sticky track tyre, and knowing how Ferrari like to tune their tyres, I would put money on the fact the Ferrari OE version of the Cup 2 used on this car is more like the Cup 2 R than the aftermarket Cup 2 we can buy. It will be crazy sticky.
    I think the most interesting thing is that they haven't chosen the Pirelli P Zero Trofeo R. But that might be only interesting to me.
    Now, Ferrari, please lend me one for a test :D

      Well the 488 Pista tire IS officially a Cup 2 R tire, they clearly state that, still not as extremely track focused as Trofeo R though. The reason they haven't done that is probably because Ferrari generally doesn't make cars that chase lap times, even though most often than not they end up with cars that beat the competition in that regard too, and 488 Pista is certainly that car. Beats the 911 GT2 RS, Huracan Performante and 720S (on Trofeo R) with ease.

    You can't kill off nostalgia Chris, NA will always be in demand no matter how good the mega bucks turbo engines get.
    But your dead right on where all these cars will end up, in heated garages with zero mileage being put on them because of residues
    Its so sad when a 10,000 miles supercar is called high mileage 🙁

    • @MBisFrenchy
      @MBisFrenchy 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      John S You also have to realize a lot of superchats aren't very comfortable you don't go for a long drive usually you go out to your favorite roads for a few hours for fun. In addition the car may not be someone 2md car it could be their 3rd or 4th etc. A 400 mile 5 year old Ferrari is one thing but 1-2K miles a year ain't bad if the person doesn't have a lot of time or has other cars. Someone I know uses a Continental GT Speed as a winter daily and racked up 9K miles in a year. Some people just drive them into the ground and don't care about the miles.

Although I really do love the old trio, Chris Harris's reviews are more intellectually stimulating and give me a better understanding of the car and what it's like. and in which comparisons did you actually see this? Here is one, where this is clearly not the case: www.roadandtrack.com/pcoty-2019/
      Here is another one, where the Pista is again slower (than a 991 GT3RS this time) and the editors actually conclude, that the name Pista is misleading, since the car is not really a hardcore track biest: th-cam.com/video/CG7Cmv46avA/w-d-xo.html
      So, Mr. Trump, check your facts!

    • @isimon.
      @isimon. 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      LOOK NO BRAKES It depends on the track. If the Pista can use it‘s power is the main question. I saw a test lately (can‘t remember exactly which one, sorry. Some car of the year thing..) on a tighter circut, temperatures around 18degree celcius and the pista got smashed by a 991.2 GT3 RS. The GT3 could use all it‘s power while the Pista was drifting around... Like Chris said in the video: 50% throttle is enough to light it‘s rear tires. Must be a beast around Silverstone or Spa though.

    The more power you add to these supercars the harder it becomes to make them good drivers cars without charging millions! Thats why a gt3 rs is so good! Its balanced! It has around 550 horsepower!! every thing is matched!! All big companies are just chasing numbers as i guess numbers sell but are they great drivers cars????? I dont think so! And in modern cars if you are doing 120mph it feels slow!! It only feels fast at high end! Older cars are way more fun! They are more alive! Modern cars feel dead or lack feeling!! They need to dial back a little and concentrate on balancing and matching the drivetrain and suspension perfectly!! In this vid Chris says the engine is great but not all of the car! Everything has to be perfect! The 458 speciale will still be better than this pista! Less power less everything but it all works in sync! Just my opinion!!😎

    Less normally aspirated but it still sounds pretty much like any other turbocharged car. Actually, I’ve heard 4 pots that sound as good, which is not good for a Ferrari. Just Not the same, turbocharging is also one of the reasons that that power car be used, 1/3 throttle and the tyres light up out of bends, the only way to make cars like this tractable is alter the boost curve which sort of defeats the point, or make them all 4WD.

      Also, there's a little thing called downforce that plays a big role as well. Ferrari has a self-imposed design limitation in that they've promised to never use external spoilers for extra downforce (they view it as an unnecessary crutch). Meanwhile, the GT2RS and GT3RS have park benches installed over the rear of the car. Same thing with the Corvette ZR1, Huracan Performante, Viper ACR, etc. The amount of traction (and downforce) that Ferrari has squeezed out of the Pista's otherwise tame exterior is nothing short of amazing.

      That was why they stopped letting him drive their new cars.

    Don't understand the hype around mclarens, the are unreliable and lack soul. Ferrari are the best at the game.

      Have you driven one perhaps? Listen again what Chris says here about the control weights (particularly the overly light and disconnected steering), many car journalists have made the same observations, in a McLaren those same control weights are far more natural and connected. Plus McLarens are just plain old ridiculously fast and many of their customers really like the fact that their cars have a carbon fiber chassis, something Ferrari cannot boast about. Each to their own, but there are many reasons why someone might choose a McLaren over a Ferrari, brand perception might also play a big role for some...

      Lack of soul is just BS marketing. I'm 99% sure you have never driven a Ferrari or McLaren. Go drive either and you will be blown away.
