    I love my ‘17 488 spider. I purchased it in 2021 with 6000 miles on it and now have 12000. Have continued to carry the power 15 warranty after the first two yr certification, and plan to continue to do so as my dealer is 140 miles away. Only issue has been a dead battery, the shifts, the sounds, the feel of the machine on the road is intoxicating. I have a ‘17 Porsche 911 4S, and a 2021 GT 500 in the garage as well. My drive choice is always the Ferrari over those other fine cars. There’s just something emotionally satisfying with the 488, the Porsche is too well behaved and muted and the GT 500 too raw for my tastes. Of the three the 488 gets the most conversation followed by the GT, kids and women especially notice, especially when they see a woman getting out of the car.

    Unlike many who comment here I have been privileged to own a 360/430/488 spider typically for 3 years, have tracked each one as well as epic longer trips to Le Mans etc
    Each in it’s time has been the best sports car I’ve ever owned utterly amazing
    Each is a better car in every way than it’s predecessor
    I decided on a 488 as I thought it looked more modern and timeless
    and it’s handling / performance / sound is incredible. Service costs have been nil and insurance sensible

    However, for just another $50K you can get a Ferrari 488 with its vastly superior performance, huge low end torque, incredible LaFerrari inspired modern design and advanced tech ! Many even like the deeper varied sound of the twin turbo V8 especially with open valves or aftermarket exhaust. Most well known experienced exotic car reviewers have determined that the 488 is the better Ferrari.

    Appreciate this video, as I was (fortunately) in the situation you describe. I had a 458 for a short period, it was the best car I'd ever had the experience of driving or owning. Fairly soon after buying it, I wanted to find a better spec / low mileage 458 "to have forever" and quickly realized I was practically in 488 price territory. I asked several long time Ferrari owners what I should do, and shockingly, all of them said "go for the 488". I ended up finding a heavily optioned 488, and was blown away by the performance after the 458. You can't go wrong with either, obviously, but I do agree too many enthusiasts rule the 488 out just because it's not NA. When I first got my 488, I admittedly was not happy with the sound, but after a full titanium Ryft catback, it sounds great. Does it sound like the 458? Of course not, but that doesn't mean it doesn't sound incredible. I've been extremely happy with the 488, it's a special car, and know anyone with an opinion would agree if they actually drove one instead of compared it to the 458 "just because". It's apples to oranges, anyway, and it's evolution from Ferrari. The NA feel of the 488 is just insane engineering.

    I stopped by my local Ferrari dealer last week, and they completely agree with you. While they have both cars available, they believe the 458 is over hyped, and not as usable as a 488. The only thing the 458 has better than the 488 is the sound. Maybe that provides more emotion than the load of extra performance we get from a 488.

    Sold. That is as soon as I can afford a high-maintenance, fair-weather, novelty, minimum 200k USD car that you can't park nearly anywhere without people complaining about grocery prices keying it. It won't be long before owners of said cars don't park one anywhere but home and the country club. Which they seemingly do now anyway. I don't recall the last time I saw a Ferrari parked after leaving Hermosa Beach.

    Sam I love the bigger films you make with the gorgeous b roll and the fastidious attention to production quality but this more 'raw' content is a lovely addition. I hear you when you say you're flat out but some additional content filmed in the 1 take style would be amazing and I think you'd potentially deliver tye same ROI as some of the more blockbuster stuff. I even think there's space for a '10 minutes with a.....' type format to plug the gap between shorts and the longer form stuff for the main channel and the BTG channel. Basically what I'm saying is that I think I speak on behalf the majority of viewers that we'll welcome all variations of content you put out so the more the better 👏

    Excellent video, for me the 488 suffers from people being too purists and wanting to fit in with the community. Like, established figures in the enthusiast world and other people who think the same will say, “I like a clean looking car so I don’t look like a wanna be loser”, “I must have a N/A engine because sound is the most important part of the driving experience”, blah blah blah. Hence the 488 vs 458 battle will always be won by the 458. Everybody then latches on to these opinions and makes it sort of folklore, because they like these journalists/influencers. I wish all car lovers could be more themselves and not be afraid to share their preferences and opinions, without fear of being ridiculed for it. I always thought the 488 looked better than the 458, those side air inlets, the angry lights and bumper and the beautiful rear end with the sculpted taillights. Will always be right up there in my dream Ferrari wish list.

      @@michaelmich00 first 7 yrs are covered for routine maintenance by Ferrari. Yrly or every 12000 miles which ever is first. The extended warranties of V8s cost about 5300$ after the initial warranty at 3 goes off. The power 15 warranty with annual service costs about 6200$ for cars in their 8th yr. The warranty covers a lot of the most expensive parts, engine, transmission, turbos, just paid for my exhaust vacuum solenoid, including replacing the hoses, which was making some noises. Covered services mean that the diagnosis is then covered too which can cost hundreds especially when they've got to take off the rear bumper to diagnose. It also covers towing the vehicle with a 24/7 service. I personally budget about $10000 a yr between warranties and possible routine wear and tear stuff like a tire. My husband has hit two potholes in his Audi and ruined two nearly new tires. You Cannot predict anything these days. I’m now getting a v12 Lusso cpo added to my garage with a two yr warranty but without the maintenance because they don’t offer it on the Lusso after its 7 yr. I’m figuring all in yrly costs after the first 2 yrs at around $13000 all in, car insurance and registration, warranty and yrly maintenance but a note of caution where I live my insurance is cheap. $2236 a yr for 3000miles full replacement coverage. It’s an expensive hobby or love affair….take your pick. But when you get in and start it up, you'll never stop smiling.

      @carolneumann2860 4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@michaelmich00 I’d have issues with 20k too for one car.The one thing with Europe is the cars are usually much cheaper than in the states. I paid 275k$ for a cpo spider, 3 yrs ago, and they're still asking up near there for the same aged car with a little less mileage at dealers. So depreciation has been nil especially since I’ve maintained the warranty. However in the case of my 488 which I love, will it be a 30+ yr keeper like my 308GTS? Not likely. With all the computers valve controllers etc etc etc, it will eventually become a nightmare, unless Ferrari has an aggressive aftermarket in parts for the 488, but I will enjoy it for a few more yrs. Now that Ferrari is offering battery protection on their hybrids that will protect the eventual second owner of a 296 or SF90, maybe my next with a trade in. Or I trade in both the 488 and Lusso that’s incoming for a Purosangue CPO’d in a few yrs. Not sure I’ll ever get to spec a new one. It would be tempting .
