Chris Harris Drives The Ferrari 812 Competizione

  • Chris Harris goes for a drive in the new Ferrari 812 Competizione at the Fiorano Circuit in Maranello, the latest limited edition V12 Ferrari. This particular car weighs in as the highest revving and most powerful V12 the marque have ever produced.
We would like to apologise for the poor sound quality, but this was a smash and grab exercise without our normal crew! Having said that, any footage of a Ferrari is good footage, surely! - CH

I had a car that did that, not sure why certain manufacturers choose to read wheel speed from the rear wheel sensors rather than the front ones. I guess the engineers assume we’d like to know the wheel speed when drifting! 👍

I'm not worried, cars like this will always exist because people want them and synthetic fuels will come about to keep them compliant. The rich and folks willing to pay can enjoy them. Heck I wouldn't be surprised if synthetic fuel becomes available for classic cars. Maybe 100 bucks a fill but it will happen

Some years ago I was very fortunate to be given a present of a 2 day driving experience at Fiorano. I drove many laps in 430s and 599s. The 430s were quick but the 599s were in a different league. The 599 had a V12 engine with 620 bhp and was brutally fast. I can hardly conceive what a 830 bhp V12 is capable of. I was asked what speed I had reached on the straight in the 599. I replied truthfully that I did not know as my full concentration was getting the braking correct for the right hander at the end of the straight and I never looked down at the speedo!

I left it in wet mode but used the paddles and treated it with respect but by god was it still one hell of a machine. That V12 is a work of art and the noise is possibly as good as any engine gets, it just makes you nervous yet smile. If Novitec is watching, please make a similar rear but better diffuser. The spolier & bar make the lights look not so punched in.

Poster car for sure. Will go down in history a rarely talked about Legend. Pinnacle of Front Engine, RWD NA performance. These will do very well as collector cars. The Average Joe might be better off with a more timid 458 Speciale but if you're looking at this level of car, you just buy what makes you smile the most.

It's cool that you can see the old Ferrari race car in the side profile.

From the back it looks like something from the movie "Corvette Summer", lol.
