  • After struggling with Eosinophilic Esophagitis symptoms, I embarked on the food elimination trial to find out my triggers. When I went Gluten & Dairy Free, my symptoms subsided and my numbers went down. And I felt so much more like myself. So I've stuck with it ever since, but it was not a super easy transition. So here are 10 things I wish someone told me at the beginning of that journey, because otherwise the only way to learn is through a lot of trial and error, so this will give you a nice base of knowledge that I didn't have! You lucky little muskrat.

Phil, thanks for the advice and support. 15 years ago gluten intolerance appeared in my life in a miserable way; massive muscle, nerve, and joint pain. There was little out there. Now, it’s so much better. Sorry you have the dairy too. That’s hard. Glad you have a supportive family. Much love from the PNW.

Thank you for all the information you are sharing. I am new to this as we are trying to determine what causes my husband's EOE. Just started this journey.

My favorite dairy free milk in the states was Not Milk. It's mostly pea based with some coconut for texture and flavor and I miss it now that I'm in the UK.

Also be aware if you tell someone you are dairy free they will immediately spit back at you “oh you’re lactose intolerant”. Then you have to explain to them the difference. I explained it to this one girl, she shushed me and said “nonono your lactose intolerant, you’re wrong, I’d know ”

I'm super surprised you didn't mention Miyokos in the list of vegan cheeses and butters, etc. They're like amazing. Their butter is definitely one to one in taste. I prefer their mozzarella (dupe for fresh mozz) to dairy mozzarella.
I haven't had a chance to try most of their cheeses. Like the liquid mozzarella, their cream cheese, etc.

Also, very surprised you didn't mention Forager. Their yogurt is so good. Trader joes also has a decent yogurt.
Also KITE HILL!!! like 😮. Change your life for real.
Their ricotta is to die for.
Not to mention their Sour Cream🔥. I'm a huge sour cream girlie and that stuff is so good. They have a bunch of other stuff too like dips and a whole line of protien products like protien yogurt.

There’s actually a lot of dairy free substitutes that taste better than the originals. If you want good dairy free milk silk almond milk. You can do the original or get dark chocolate which tastes like your drinking original chocolate milk. If you want to try good vanilla pudding try Belsoy French vanilla pudding. Tastes just like regular vanilla pudding

Look up dairy free Boursin, it’s weird how close to cream cheese it actually is and I use it in lasagna 😊

Yo Phil, I’m lactose intolerant but I’m also gluten intolerant and severely allergic to tree nuts. Do you recommend any good diary free ice cream brands?

Finding substitutes that are also free of nuts is very challenging. My husband was just diagnosed with EOE and has to go on elimination diet. I was shopping for dairy, gluten and nuts free dairy substitutes and every other milk or yogurt has nuts :( Had to get coconut based yogurts.
