Beavis and Butt-Head is an American adult animated television series created by Mike Judge for MTV (seasons 1-8) and later Paramount+ (season 9 - present, as Mike Judge's Beavis and Butt-Head).The series follows Beavis and Butt-Head, both voiced by Judge, a pair of teenage slackers characterized by their apathy, lack of intelligence, lowbrow humor, and love for hard rock and heavy metal.
The characters originated in Judge's 1992 short film Frog Baseball, which was broadcast by MTV's animation showcase Liquid Television. After MTV commissioned a full series, Beavis and Butt-Head ran for seven seasons from 1993 to 1997. It was revived with an eighth season aired on MTV in 2011. A second revival, consisting of an initial two-season order, premiered on Paramount+ in 2022.
During its initial run, Beavis and Butt-Head received critical acclaim for its satirical, scathing commentary on society, as well as criticism for its alleged influence on adolescents. It produced various other media, including the theatrical film Beavis and Butt-Head Do America in 1996. A second film, Beavis and Butt-Head Do the Universe, was released in 2022 on Paramount+.

The reason analog triggers were never attempted again past the Wii Classic Controller is due to a lawsuit by a patent troll Anascape, where they sued Microsoft and Nintendo in 2006 over the violation of 12 different patents, 7 of which involved analog triggers. Nintendo lost this case in 2008, owing the troll 21mill dollars, but eventually appealed/won it in 2010. While this protects their rerelease of the gamecube controller (and I suppose the original Wii Classic), if they were to attempt a new controller with analog, they would likely face another lawsuit, with no guarantee of winning this time. Hope this helps!

I like the vice versa of that, how the NES/SNES Classic Edition controllers are compatible with the Wii Remote, meaning you can also use them on the Wii to play VC games or anything else you can hook up a Wii Remote to (even the Switch with an adapter). I don't have the NES Classic console because it quickly became nearly impossible to get, but I did get the controller for it since they sold those on their own too, and I've used it with my Wii and even Switch quite a bit, it's of course perfect for playing NES Virtual Console games.

Man I just love hearing people talk about niche Wii stuff. It had so much half hidden forgotten features and accessories, I used to own a classic controller but forgot about the classic pro.
It was my favorite console (and it still is) and it just brings me joy to hear people talk about it and know some people still have fun with it !

Resident Evil 4 supported the Classic Controller but not the GameCube one, but there was a trick to use it: you plug in your GameCube controller and remove the batteries from the Wii Remote so the GameCube controller is the only thing connected, and ta-da, it works. The prompts shows the Classic Controller buttons tho.

Love this thing. I had the original white classic controller that I got for virtual console games, and the black classic controller pro that I got bundled with Monster Hunter Tri. While it is a bit light and insubstantial, the fact that kept costs down by leaving most of the electronics to the Wii Remote was a fantastic choice.

8:40 right on the money, when the gigaleak happened one of the documents mentions hardware that would allow emulating the GC controller via bluetooth. It's assumed this hardware didn't make it to the Wii but we know it's possible to do it in software because of homebrew like devolution (and much later nintendont) have support for it.

  • @EmmBee27

18:50 there was also something sold at Walmart at one point that was a combination of these two bundles. It was a package a lot like the one on the left, except it also included a Wii Points card. It was also absurdly easy to get the Wii Points card out of the package without even opening it, so many of those bundles had the card stolen.

The Classic Controller is pretty much the most versatile Nintendo controller, considering you can use it with most Virtual Console content on Wii and Wii U, most Wii U games, and even the Switch if you have a USB adapter. I also think it works with GameCube games on Nintendont, so I suppose those analog triggers do get some use after all, assuming you're willing to jailbreak the console.

The exterior differences of course the Gamecube ports on top of the console, but without looking at that the orientation of the Wii Logo on the front of the console. If the Wii Logo was upright while in Vertical orientation, it was backward compatible. If the Wii Logo was upright in horizontal orientation, it was one of the consoles that had backward compatibility scrapped.
