I modded my Wii later on and it was my gateway to classic games on my CRT thanks to most third party emulators having 240p support. Still is the simplest way to get a pretty capable system plugged into a CRT for 2D games. Back when you could actually give Nintendo money for VC games, they supported 240p too. Add in Gamecube support and the Wii remains an amazing entry point into retro gaming.

That moment as a kid, when you realize with enough knowledge you can literally manipulate all the machinery you were using to do your bidding is amazing. That's how I deleted all the games on my chinese bootleg handheld.

Xash3d hasn't just been ported to a bunch of weird consoles, there's a port of it for *android* called Xash3D FWGS. Don't know what it stands for, but it was my first ever experience of the original half life. Yeah, I played it on my phone even before I got it on PC. It's pretty cool, so I'm really surprised it wasn't ported to the Wii. Great video!
GoldsrcGX is a dead project. I was the one who started it. Sorry i disappointed you all. I have no free time to work on the project anymore. I haven't even worked on it since before we switched to xash. I am really sorry to let you all down. If anyone seeks to takeover the project, i would be glad to turnover everything that i have. I know that it might be hard to comprehend when I said this, are you willing to give the project to someone's hands to keep improving the project and able to to get the project done for good?
fun fact the mania port is really impressive and just barely fits within the system limitations, you cant even run v5u (the engine version of retro engine/rsdk for origins with support for sonic 1 2 and cd) due to stuff with ram and too many variables
I still use my wii all the time for COD goldeneye and phantasy star online. I specifically have a tube tv for these older consoles💙 The wii now, supports wifi compatibility with gamecube games, usb controller and keyboard support and other goodies. Id recommend giving pso a try on your wii. My wii is also my emulation-station these days, even ps1 games 💙 Playing ps1 diablo 1 on wii is hilarious
For sure. My favorites are Zack and Wiki, Skyward Sword/Twilight Princess and Super Swing Golf (favorite track is Crystal Waver, the percussion is rad).
Xash3D FWGS maintainer here. Nintendo Wii wouldn't be an easy port because as far as I know, Wii has a PowerPC CPU, which is exclusively Big Endian and there is absolutely no support for it. There were some patches, I can help porting them over but I don't have anything that's big endian around me. To be honest, it would make sense to port to some other friendlier to debug platform that's big endian. Like old Macs or Sun workstations and then go work with the Wii.
I was a Nintendo kid who went PS2 as a teenager- went back to the Wii in 2009 and caught up in the Gamecube plus the new gen stuff. Such an amazing era!
PS1 and N64 emulation run far better on Wii U due to a stronger CPU. While vWii is limited severely, Wii Virtual Console can be overclocked to am even faster speed than Wii U mode. (Only using one core helps the heat issue)
Modding a Wii for the first time must be how it felt to gain eyes on the inside. Suddenly every self-proclaimed truth of the world becomes irrelevant and infantile.
For Xiaxis, yeah, there's no movement/running away, you are expected to kill everything before it reaches you in the center of play. There are upgrades to the weapons that you can purchase with credits earned from killing monsters, press home then + after killing a few to switch through settings to the shop, where you can swap the pair of weapons for others, buy a radar or upgrades to the energy reactor that powers all the weapons. The laser in particular shoots through enemies, but the color of the laser chosen will affect enemies based on their color, so a blue laser will damage a blue enemy differently than a yellow one. This gives some bit of strategy to choosing a pair of weapons and upgrading their fire rate, efficiency, the overall charge rate of the reactor and picking weapons that compliment each other, the homing rockets being good at difficult to hit single enemies, while the lasers or charge weapons good at taking out groups. The procedural generation is just the terrain being created from scratch with each level, the height of which grows in later stages, so doesn't show at all on the first stage, and eventually is a problem to see monsters as they are hidden behind hills or in valleys.
I have a modded Wii (as well as Wii U), and a Wii Guitar Hero controller. I've plenty of experience with Wii U modding and tinkering, but Wii seemed more finicky at the time (probably ~2 years ago now). Anyone have any tips for how to get Guitar Hero 5/World Tour working on a Wii? I have the ROM files and the Wii is modded already.
Crazy to think, when the Wii came out I was 16 and a junior in high school. I remember standing in line on launch day at Best Buy and getting The Wii. Now I am 33, crazy how time flys but good memories!
11:09 Even if it was real you can't really use that 10 TB on the Wii. The sd card must be formated to FAT32 which only supports up to 32 GB There is a way to get it formated to FAT32 with 10 TB memory. You can use a tool (if using Windows) and then delete the 32 GB partition. It won't get recognised by the Wii though. Without deleting the partition it works fine with 32 GB
Wrong. FAT32 supports up to 2 TB. Some format utilities refuse to format anything larger than 32 GB as FAT32, but the filesystem itself supports up to 2 TB.
hello. I use a 256GB micro SD for Wii and they work perfectly. They have to be class 10. I have the Toshiba brand. They are expensive but worth it. I have a 512GB micro SD and that has given me problems in emulation. the games don't run smoothly
@@0arsoluto0arsoluto70 An SD card with more than 32 GB doesn't get recognized by the Wii. You probably formatted it to FAT32 and it automatically only uses 32 GB. The rest is just unnecessary.
@@KopperNeoman I'm a bit late but just saw this. Yes, you're right. But the Wii still only supports FAT32 formatted SD cards with 32 GB assigned. I tried using a 64 GB SD card formatted to FAT32 with the full 64 GB but it didn't work. When I made a partition with only 32 GB assigned it worked fine

@@BringusStudios Ruthless
15 yr/o tech nerd! You didn't have to do me like that.
same xD but I was born in 2006
Same, also 15.
I still play my Wii sometimes, as Monster Hunter Tri's single player never gets old!
Dude, just found your channel and went through a handful of videos. LOVE what you have going here, absolutely subscribed
Also I would 100% watch that cursed Mario 64 stream
Whats funny is that my family first got a Wii a while after it's hayday, so even though i'm in the younger range, i have extreme nostalgia for it
I played the Mario Kart Arcade on my 18th birthday but the arcade closed down due to covid and the machines got spread all over the place. LUCKILY the machines I care about are now at another place closeby to me but... they now cost way more to play T_T They even have Dance Dance revolution and most importantly INITIAL D ARCADE STAGE and i am one of the biggest Initial D fans.
Due to government lockdowns*
The virus didn't shut anything down, the lockdowns did.
There's as much time between now and when the wii came out as there is between now and the year 2040.
holy shit
bruh moment
And the WEF timetable for us owning nothing and being happy is 2030, holy shit lmao
One of the best videos I have watched recently. Great commentary filled with funny clips, interesting topics, and the occasional reference or callout to something that helps display the emotion he is trying to convey perfectly. Well done!
can't agree more this video is top tier for every reason
Yup
Your first soft mod is a magical experience that any lil kid should have, I had so much fun with my PSP when I finally soft modded it and caught up on all the PS1 games I missed
i followed the Xash3D Wii port closely for a while, spoke to some of the team,
unfortunately i got the impression that it was a bunch of kids who barely knew what they're were doing.
we were not, school got us busy >:(
8:53 actually, you have to hold the nunchuk in your right hand, and wiimote in your left hand. the dev switched the controls not to annoy the player
That moment as a kid, when you realize with enough knowledge you can literally manipulate all the machinery you were using to do your bidding is amazing.
That's how I deleted all the games on my chinese bootleg handheld.
This is why I bought the Wii back in 2011 when I was 15. I knew how much potential it had after you softmodded it. Back when Brawl or some other compatible game was required to load the software. Now you can just send "letterbomb" by putting your Mac address into the website. Takes like 5 minutes lol
god i love that game. i played that game so much. so many memories playing that game. im so glad you feel the same about it
ur story abt the wii rly made me get the feelsies, cuz i went thru a lot of the same vibes. my first foray into emulation and console mods was the little ol wii, and i have adored it every little moment of finding what strange new thing it can run here n there... so thank u bringus
Your first homebrew story is identical to mine lol. Down to stealing that SD card.
Listened to this video while practicing Super Paper Mario speed running tricks. I don’t regret either decision.
10:54 Hi, I think your roms need to be in ISO Form, Due to the Load Iso button being there, and you loading the bin file, If that doesn’t work, try loading the cue file first, due to the fact it is suppose to start the rom up correctly.
I was not expecting my Wii Homebrew Video to turn into a philosophical video essay at the end there
Jokes on you, I'm part of that 4.4% and I still love playing Wii games! I never realized how much homebrew stuff there was for the Wii, I should check out some more of that stuff!
It feels right to play the games on a console from their time.
THE HOMEBREW JINGLE HIT SO HARD
Funniest part about people throwing the Wiimote at their TV is you had to be SWINGING it! But waggle works perfectly fine 😂
My friends and I used to play Brawl with the emulator set to 110% speed. It actually played really well.
The only playable version of brawl lol
As a person who mastered Wii Sports but can't even figure out how to open a door in Minecraft, I feel personally attacked by this statement
I modded a wii for the first time a few years ago, I really enjoyed it, but then I got a wii u and it did everything the wii did but more, plus it has the best xenoblade game (chronicles x).
The Wii is such a cool console! I have one myself and I love playing on it now and then.
I had one ....cinsidering buying one again to mod it
The Wii was also the first console I modded. I wanted to play Japanese games, especially this one piece game that was only out in Japan. Modded it lets you bypass the region lock
Your Nintendo Wii and other Nintendo console videos are so awesome dude it's suckers
hey this is a masterpiece and i thank youtube for recommending it to me so early. subscribed
I remember playing so much Brawl Minus in my college dormitory on my friend's wii. It might still be my fav version of smash and definitely my prefered way of playing Brawl
NewoZero beta v3.41 is up for testing now. Looking testers. And before you ask; NO, I cannot add online multiplayer.
Someone being childhood-like nostalgia for the Wii makes me feel old.
This was a beautiful video, Thanks Bingus for another great time!
Thank you all and again I am really sorry to let everyone down.
If it ever does get made, I’ll definetly play half-life wii
It's alg man
I know that it might be hard to comprehend when I said this, are you willing to give the project to someone's hands to keep improving the project and able to to get the project done for good?
Copypasta
Nah man it’s all good. It’s cool that you made it in the first place even if it is unfinished.
I'm 15 and I still think the Wii is still relevant
I subbed at the Quake jump sound effect at 200% volume.
fun fact the mania port is really impressive and just barely fits within the system limitations, you cant even run v5u (the engine version of retro engine/rsdk for origins with support for sonic 1 2 and cd) due to stuff with ram and too many variables
To me sonic one, two, and cd aren’t as impressive as mania because you can just emulate them. Mania, on the other hand, is a modern game.
Whew, got all philosophical towards the end! I really did enjoy the little tangent - it made the video a lot more memorable :D
I love these previous gen consoles videos. I was wondering if you could make a video like this for the DS/DSi or PS Vita.....
I have a DS video out on the channel already actually, as well as a PSP one. The Vita is on my roadmap for the future!
Once I heard the homebrew channel music kick in, I was jamming. God, that music hit different back then, and it still hits that hard
Bro uses 10TB for Wii games 💀
What is 10TB these days, though. It's like 130$.
And it'd be both Wii and GCN.
Bro exists 💀
@@ohajohaha4 TB is 130
@@redmarine2717 i see 4tb for 100 and... i see 8tb for 160.
A Wii game is at least 1 gb in size. So the whole library of games would be applicable for that hard drive
I still use my wii all the time for COD goldeneye and phantasy star online.
I specifically have a tube tv for these older consoles💙
The wii now, supports wifi compatibility with gamecube games, usb controller and keyboard support and other goodies.
Id recommend giving pso a try on your wii.
My wii is also my emulation-station these days, even ps1 games 💙
Playing ps1 diablo 1 on wii is hilarious
The music on the Wii was the best part
For sure.
My favorites are Zack and Wiki, Skyward Sword/Twilight Princess and Super Swing Golf (favorite track is Crystal Waver, the percussion is rad).
I wouldn't say Wii Sports was my favorite game but it has to be its the one I played the most
Xash3D FWGS maintainer here.
Like old Macs or Sun workstations and then go work with the Wii.
idtech2 , the quake 2 engine, would be easier to port? just asking since it's open source
@@elwey7552 high chances somebody already made a port of Quake 2 on the Wii, why do you ask?
@TheA1batross because i didn't find any quake 2 port to wii
i haven't searched much so i will dig deeper
nvm i found one
@@elwey7552 idk just putting quake 2 wii to search bar gave me a few promising results
I was a Nintendo kid who went PS2 as a teenager- went back to the Wii in 2009 and caught up in the Gamecube plus the new gen stuff. Such an amazing era!
I have a Wii U and use WiiSXR to play playstation games. Spyro plays decently ranging from 45-55fps.
PS1 and N64 emulation run far better on Wii U due to a stronger CPU. While vWii is limited severely, Wii Virtual Console can be overclocked to am even faster speed than Wii U mode. (Only using one core helps the heat issue)
As of this post the Sonic Mania Special Stages are slightly less laggy than shown in the video and are ~almost~ playably smooth.
Modding a Wii for the first time must be how it felt to gain eyes on the inside. Suddenly every self-proclaimed truth of the world becomes irrelevant and infantile.
For CaveEx, the nunckuk analog stick emulates looking on a normal cotroller with the right analog stick, and the dpad emulates WASD.
I don’t know if you remixed the music, but that intro was 🔥
If you mean the homebrew channel theme, I didn't do it myself but I linked to the remix in the description if you want to hear the whole thing!
Thank you! I will check it out.
The sd card must be formated to FAT32 which only supports up to 32 GB
There is a way to get it formated to FAT32 with 10 TB memory.
@@NightVision402 all content on the micro sd is executable
@@KopperNeoman I'm a bit late but just saw this. Yes, you're right. But the Wii still only supports FAT32 formatted SD cards with 32 GB assigned. I tried using a 64 GB SD card formatted to FAT32 with the full 64 GB but it didn't work. When I made a partition with only 32 GB assigned it worked fine
Definitely will give some of those Triforce arcade games a try- I have basically every game I would ever want to play on my Wii U, and have it acting as a Wii and GameCube out of convenience. Never seen or played any of Nintendo's Triforce arcade games though.
I just got a Wii in 2023.
So... did it blew up?
Bruhhhhh
I’m in 24 and got one
