Just hit and ordered a set of MP-20s a couple of days ago. 3 - PW in the HMB. I've played the original Mizuno Grads for over 25 years, and finally found an iron set I wanted to move to. Since these are stronger loft, I will naturally pick up some distance. Looking forward to playing these rascals, as I love that forged feel. 👍🏾 Should arrive in a couple of days.

😍 love these irons Andy ! Unfortunately they came out after I got my 919 HM's. Playing off around a 15 hcp, for 🤐 and giggles I hit these irons and OMG, I hit them better than my HM's. ??? They felt awesome.

Sat the 716-CB 5 iron next to the HMB off the rack and it is a larger club, as is the 7i & PW when sat alongside 716-MB’s. Certainly not ugly and defiantly worth considering when my fitting suggested when combined with C-taper shaft the HMB 7i was 10-15 yards longer with tighter front to back dispersion.....👍🏼

7 iron top line thicker than 3 iron due to cg location, lower in 3 iron to assist launch, higher, therefore thicker in 7 iron to flight it down a bit.

Hi Andy I bought the 2&3 in the last 10 days or so I’ve hit the 3 iron twice off the fairway and once off the tee and I must agree with you on how easy it was to hit and launch. I’ve not had a chance to try the 2 iron due to the weather, but I find them as easy off the fairway as a hybrid, but that could be the era I’m from when a 1 iron was common in people’s bags I think the hybrid offers better shots out of semi rough/ rough compared too the long iron but in windy conditions the long iron is better in my opinion.
I won a set off James Robinson golf and I’ve chosen HMB all the way through the set. I can’t comment on the rest of the irons because I haven’t received them yet due to James being away, and also I never noticed the head size too be honest it felt fantastic when I hit it but everyone is different. Good honest review Andy.

James Hammon Thank you James, I honestly couldn’t believe it when I watched the video I thought this doesn’t happen too me, unfortunately I can’t get down to barewood lakes for a full fitting, but I am going too meet James at Huddersfield and do a unboxing video for his channel and play 9 holes 3 of which will be against James.
Thank you again for your kind wishes and good luck when you get your new Mizuno irons.

This fall I switched from a hybrid to a graphite shafted 19* iron. It hasn’t really helped my scores yet,but it’s really satisfying when I hit well. I can hit a 200 yard shot that stays out of the wind, or work the ball around a dog leg.

TAG I would be willing to try these long Irons, but have had hybrids in the bag for about 13 plus years, gave up long irons in my mid 50's, the longest iron I have in the bag is a 6 iron. For a younger stronger player this looks to be a fantastic iron to have, very good video , thanks for the update on new tech.

I totally agree with your comment about size. To my eye, the whole set looks smaller than I’d expected. I play Hot Metal Pro irons and they’re a little larger...a good thing for me. The HMB’s are really a breakthrough club, imo.

  • @benzeelie6882

Makes sense that the long irons would have a slimmer toplime. Think about flight in a long iron you want the weight more to the bottom of the club to get it in the air. 7 you want to flight lower. Most golfers can't flight a long iron high enough to get the most out of it

The shaft, at 95 grams, is on the light side, which I prefer, but the heads then felt a little on the heavy side. Hasn't taken much to get used to the feel.

I have the Cobra F9 which like the Mizuno HMB is hollow beginning at 7-iron. My F9 4-iron is 19 1/2 degrees compared to Mizuno HMB 3-iron 19 degrees - so almost the same. My carry distance is almost exactly the same as your 3-iron here, and has led me to use my 4-iron instead of my hybrid. The hollow body clubs are forgiving and long, so I think many will consider them as a hybrid replacement. The HMB are more attractive than my F9's, and their performance has been lauded by many reviewers. Thanks for revisiting the Mizuno HMB in 3-iron. Maybe I can talk myself into a second set of irons.

Just got one today. Flies the same distance as my 4 hybrid which is a 3i replacement. Goes lower, straighter, less sidespin. Toes and heels come off better due to the flat leading edge. Maybe the thin hits don't come off so well, but they just come up short and straight. I'm keeping a 5 hybrid but the 4 is coming ot too make space for this. After the honeymoon period I might think about the 4 iron if all is well.

      Jason,
Think a bit. Do you want 6yd gaps between your clubs?
My distance control is +/- 3 at best with the same club. A 6yd gap makes it essentially the same club.
      My gaps are 10-12 yds. So if a 7i is flying 170, the 6 better go 182, the 5 195, the 4 217 and the 3i 230!

If it's windy or I don't mind it rolling out for ever, I use the 2i, if conditions are clam or I don't want it to maybe go TOO far or I need the carry distance to be guaranteed, I'll use the 4w. Wanted the MP20 HMB in 2 iron as an addition to my MP18 blades (PW-5) , MCC fly high 4 iron but to my suprise no project X LZ Tour graphite shafts available anymore at Mizuno..for a company who recommends proper fitting there is only recoil in graphite shafts 😳 There are golfers who need graphite for their joints or just like graphite better but than Mizuno is not the company to go to because only one brand/type graphite shaft .....🤔 asked Mizuno Europe if they still had the Project X LZ tour graphite for an upcharge but that also wasn’t possible because they didn’t hold any in stock anymore. So ordered Titleist U500 in hazardus smoke 6.0 instead . Pity because the head in a modus one shaft felt great. But as I mentioned I need graphite for my joints.

My Ping Zing 2 with 20g lead tape is 3 wood distance anyway. Why are modern lofts a club low? Answer...to sell wedge sets. Good vlog by the way. Mp18s were good. Wilson tour blades FG-17 are better.
