You are presenting an unfair comparison. FWD Mazda3 is available and would fair more favorably in the fuel economy department against the Civic. Overall, your review seems hurried, doesn’t address other important facts like trunk capacity and pure performance numbers between the two.

i believe the 3000 usd difference is mainly on the AWD and bose.. if you test the closest variant FWD with regards to price, the mazda is unbeatable.. exterior, interior and driving dynamics. the 1.5L turbo has issues by the way.. Honda's turbo has issues, google it up.. reliability? you can't really say mazda is unreliable,(time will tell). the honda is perceived to be more reliable, it is more of a subjective thought nowadays that mazdas are pretty reliable as well as honda and toyota.. consumer reports(google this as well) mazda as top 3 next to toyota and lexus which is by the way under the same wing, basically mazda is top 2 right?.. forgive me for bringing this up, but i think this review is very flawed.. i'm sure i'm not the only one who disagrees with the verdict and how you came up with it. you should have put point and weight system on every category.. Exterior? civic is too futuristic and too aggressive, i'm kinda lost in the design of the civic. it is trying to be something it isn't with the fake vents.. interior? civic is just plain outdated.. who said practicality can't come with good design of interior? honda's interior is worse than toyota.. i know this is a budget segment, but budget doesn't mean cheap looking.. it doesn't have to be ugly or cheap looking if it is a budget segment.. toyota for god's sake makes the vios so cheap looking(exterior).. are they just that too lazy to come up with a better exterior design? simple because it is not a luxury or up market segment?.. honda has good looks but not so good interior.. transmission? CVT vs 6AT il leave it there.. if you give me a manual civic and a manual mazda 3 we may have an argument but if CVT vs 6AT there isn't really a case.. Power and driving dynamics? these two are made as daily drivers, not as race cars.. they both have sporty feeling and that is good enough.. i'm not a honda hater or a full pledged mazda lover, but i just think you are giving the civic too much credit for something that is not necessarily true.. it more practical because it is bigger but if you want a big sized car go for an suv.. not every person who is in the market of the civic and mazda 3 are 6 feet and above in height.. not everyone wants or needs to haul 5 persons every day.. at the end of the day, if budget wasn't a concern almost all of us would want a bugatti/lambo as cars and huracan as compact suvs, rolls royce for business matters, a wrangler for off roading, a RV bus for long recreational drives and etc.. what im trying to say is that not one car in that group is a complete package right? there is always a trade off.. what mazda has done in the compact car segment is very good.. a good looking car, an interior design that rivals base luxury cars, a good enough engine that runs well, a good enough space for most, a cargo that can't really fit a cow but still is enough for its intended purpose.. i believe the civic only have space and mileage as its clear advantage against the mazda and reliability is too subjective.. i think that advantage against the mazda is not that great that it evens out the score of mazda's advantage in exterior and interior.. can't compare price for AWD and FWD though.. your doing mazda an injustice!

Cvt transmissions suck, the Mazda looks better, drives better, and has awd. If interior space is what you’re looking for then the compact segment isn’t for you. It really doesn’t matter in this segment except for reviewers who claim that a couple of inches make or break a car in a review 😂. I'd go Civic with a manual and save a ton of money while getting a better driver with more practicality. The new Mazda 3 just traded too much of its soul for luxury. Way expensive now as well.

We kind of had that feeling too. We expected the Mazda3 to really sparkle, and it kind of fell short. As always, thanks for watching, Blake!

Lol so after redesigning the Mazda 3, they managed to build a more expensive, less efficient, smaller car than the segment leader. No wonder Mazda sells the least cars in this category. I would love to see a comparison between the new n old Mazda 3

That’s because they refuse to use a piece of shit CVT to get fuel mileage. So if you like fuel economy and are fine with your transmission breaking down by all means buy a CVT.

Unfair to compare a 1.5li Turbo with a 2.5li NA. Civic is bound to win in fuel economy comparison with a much larger engine. Civic is good but Mazda is better and worth it.

As a previous owner of a 2012 Mazda 3, and current owner of a 2019 Honda Civic, I respect both cars for their handling.

The way Sebastian trash talked Mazda’s driving dynamics speaks to his lack of knowledge on the engineering that went into it for the new model. It’s superior to Honda’s. They haven’t revised the civic since 2015 so it’s behind in the segment. Mazda’s driving and handling are top of the class. Honda’s car is good looking but a lack of volume knob, busy interior, and outdated look just proved the Mazda is the better choice overall.

Has Honda fixed the oil dilution problem with their Civic and CRV engines for the 2019/2020 model?

I think the Mazda 3 could use a smaller 1.5 or 1.6L turbo to get better mileage as the Civic. AWD is a good extra to have, you don't need it all the time, but is good enough to have it

Is it just me or do Automotive journalists seem really irritating and somewhat whiny in my opinion. To be honest I prefer the Kia Forte you get just as good gas mileage the engines just Pepe enough to get you going it feels comfortable rides well handles well and does everything these other cars do for less money. In fact if you get the Forte LX Fe with the automatic you're getting 31 City 41 Highway that's a sold in my book.

The Civic needs premium for those fuel economy numbers, and you used the Mazdas AWD fuel economy figures which is horseshit. Do a real world test of FWD vs FWD on 87 for both.

I think Civic is more unique looking, cars now have that same grill styling, thats why bought a Civic, never drive a Mazda before, but I bet the experience is better than a Honda

What do you do when you can’t compete? You offer all wheel drive. Which is nice if you’re in snow but also cost of maintenance and unreliability goes up. Not to mention fuel economy gets worse. It’s hard to beat a Honda.

The dude loses all credibility when he calls the Mazda infotainment system tiny. That thing has an 8-inch display and the knob control in the center is not only way more stylish but is way more practical and safe to use while driving. Touch screen operation is table for driving.

Mike Dye He thinks it’s tiny because he plugged in an Android phone which doesn’t have support for the wide screen yet.

Get the cheaper option of both, where you will still get most of the high quality materials and by far beat the Honda in price/value. Most buyers after a 20k car wont pay for the extra of the bose system and the other expensive add on you have in the ones you tested. Test the car your audience will buy.
