Hey everyone, regarding the 0-62 time, we give the most honest possible review of the cars we test. Other outlets have found the 2019 fwd mazda3 to be in the mid 8 seconds range. It’s not a shock that the awd is heavier (roughly 200 pounds), and we definitely experienced an added sluggishness. That said, if someone can go out and do a sub 8 second 0-62 in the mazda3 awd hatch (without dropping it off a cliff) I will do an instagram story with me in a dress proclaiming you as my prince and that I need saving.
Drivetrain loss is a thing, but in this case it shouldn't be "that" much of a thing. And 200lbs shouldn't rob 2s off that 0-60 either so it's definitely weird. In the real world with a passenger I could manage a 8.2s with my 2018 2.0. Usually around mid 8s without much issues. That's with a manual however.
@@angelescamilla5841 they're not "Officially" competing with Lexus, etc. They're trying to make most of limited resources. A Torsion beam rear suspension is hardly premium. However, putting a little more detail in the interior, and giving it European (Italian) styling, they are try to build a niche that the they failed to do so in many other attempts. They are actually trying to be a VW. Premium looks at standard prices. Unlike Toyota that can sell a 85k Landcruiser, Mazda is still far away from calling itself premium.
I own a 2020 Honda Civic Hatchback Sport Touring, love it. The CVT is phenomenal. I test drove the Mazda3 for the day and loved it as well! This is a toss up for most people. I chose the Civic due to the practicality of the storage in the back. The Mazda3 is better than the Corolla or the Veloster when comparing to space, storage, and room. Hands down the Mazda looks sexy, luxurious, and drives softly. If the Mazda had more loading space and more backseat legroom, easy choice for Mazda. You cannot go wrong with either car. Both are reliable, sporty, premium, nice rides, and quality.
tigerbalm I wouldn’t say underpowered the same engines moves the CX5 around quite decently and that’s much heavier. The Subaru Impreza is underpowered lol
Driveitsideways 1 sadly I’m in the market for a car right now, and my parents just got the cx9 and that thing is torquey and puts you back into your seat well for a big three row suv. But that car is turbo charged 2.5, and this is a NA 2.5
Alec W the 2.5 is actually a decently peppy engine. Compared to the instant torque of a modern turbo engine is may feel “slow” but real world (not specs in a magazine that everyone is so focused on) they will be very similar in terms of acceleration.
No just speaking for yourself ... Or that's why half the civics in my area are Si , my next door neighbor drives a explorer sport and there's a GLE 63 AMG on my street to .. so definitely not close to 99% want a turtle of a car
@@sleeper.simulant7327 Totally not true , you're so wrong the truth is the exact opposite, HP numbers lead you to believe some cars are close in performance like the Mazda 3 and the Civic Hatch , they have about the same hp but that civic is way faster.
People, the Mazda is a economy car, NOT a sport car . Stop saying is slow . It was designed for fuel economy and driver oriented , but won’t break any record.
Mmm I dunno about you but Mazda makes great sports cars. There a reason why the Miata is the most tracked car in the world - nothing corners like it does.
It truly is. It's actually inspired by the Mazda Vision RX concept, you should check it out. They've slowly been making more of their new lineup look like it, it's a beaut.
Shi Tao cheng yea unfortunately but I mean wish it wasn’t this bad in America, lol only what is it? 5% now that really sucks. I went to Costa Rica and there were manuals as far as the eye could see, I was glorious
That's really the weakest joke that I read from long time ago 😂😂. Newer "japan cars".. are not anymore japan made with japan parts, but because they need to fight for a part from euro and usa market, prices should be as low as euro cars. So, in many situations they choose to use whole subassembly from PSA, Renault and other cheap brands (or contractors for those brands)
@@napraznicul have u ever worked on a Jetta? It's pure trash. Japanese cars may be built in America,Canada and Mexico but they still have engineering that in my eyes and experience lasts.
@@kevincharmillot8071 thatd be good if it was from toyota or nissan. Mazda isn't exactly known for straight six engines, let alone 6 cyl engines at all. But it would be interesting for sure
Ka Fai Lau - I traded my 2018 Gold R for the Mazda 3 so I won’t be tempted to speed and get any more speed tickets... I drove everything in the class and the Mazda for me stood out miles apart. Just my opinion
@@remist-cyr702 Mazda suit for you, you like it more, no problem. Everyone has different about what they like. My point is driving a civic doesn't mean you will get speed tickets. I don't get any even police cars always near me
Mazda 3 FWD the better option. 98% would pick the Mazda just by it's looks alone. It's the most gorgeous hatchback of it's segment. Can't fault Honda's driver oriented dynamics, it's their history, trademark and badge of honor. More money for maintenance/repairs with Volkswagen.
I've had a Corrado VR6 for 6 years 140,000km, a Passat wagon V6 4motion for 7 years 290,000km, and now a MK7 GTI for 3 years 90,000km and between all 3 cars all the most intensive maintenance I've ever done was a fuel filter on the corrado, new brake pads and spark plugs on the passat and oil changes on the gti. If you look after your cars and do regular preventative maintenance, they will look after you. If you don't like doing that, buy a corolla, camry or civic, which are basically like an appliance on wheels.
That's basically what i'm saying. I do hope you're doing oil changes on the corrado and passat, as well lol. Yea, most cars will run for a long time, if you treat them well. However, have you ever had to do any real work on a vw (excluding og beetle and bus)? They're nightmares. Obviously, someone who works on them all the time won't have too many problems, but average mechanics will hate fixing them. I'm in the states, btw.

@@RMAGEDN740 There will virtually always be that one guys who says, "Well, I've had for x amount of kilometers/miles, and I've only had to do routine maintenance." However, generally speaking, you're absolutely right.
Hung Lo so true. I drive a little commuter 2009 civic and it feels slow to me but handles well (I have really good tires) recently rented an Elantra and it seemed fine but I got back in my Civic and the steering and handling is just so much more direct and responsive.
Absolutely. I daily a 18 SI and after going on vacation for a week, getting back home and going for a drive in it instantly reminds me what an incredibly good car it is.
Agreed. I am a Mazda fanboy and will be buying the new 3 over the Civic but its defitely a fun ride. It loses out to me in terms of styling and interior.
Things to remember, people buy these trim levels for commuting and maybe limited back road driving. Compromising on the features to get the sportier GTI isn't what 95% of consumers do. Also, don't forget to give credit to Honda because this Civic design came out for 2016 model year and still hold up.
I gotta admit, i wasn't always a fan of these guys, but they are killing it with these videos. They put cars against together that make sense, not sure why other channels don't do the same, but you guys are great!
You are the only one that have the courage to say that the Mazda 3 doesn’t have power! I watched already more than 6 reviews and you are the only one to point in that.
Have driven Mazdas for 14 years. Was never stranded, no mechanical or other problems. The only work was scheduled maintenance, or age-related replacements (clutch, brake rotors, etc.). They’re very reliable and fun to drive. My wife went from a turbo VW to a CX-5. We both still have visceral reactions to our cars. We loved them.
my suv goes zero to 60 in 8 seconds. and it weighs how much more? the only reason you buy a hatchback is saving money, might as well buy something that retains its value more and that would be the Honda Civic. I literally cannot think of having a good reason to buy a hatchback, other than "its all I can afford" If I wanted performance out of a hatchback I'd buy a Focus RS or Veloster N
I like the Mazda more. I like how it goes more for a premium comfortable feel. Personally I’d rather have a more comfortable and premium feel rather than a sporty feel
Lol you guys think 186 horsepower is slow on AWD?? Clearly someone hasn't driven a Subaru impreza. Everyday I drove a car over 3000 pounds and carried 148 hp and 145 lb. 0 to 60 is like 10 seconds. That is slow, mazda3 is fine.
D Doge The engine is just weak for the weight. I think it is the power delivery instead of the numbers. Again you can never know till you drive it’s eh?
Mazdaspeed franchise does not exist anymore. The division has been shut down for 2 years. So I seriously doubt it. There is a turbo charged version coming out, but it is no different then the 2.5T already in use. Or a skyactiv x turbo charged. Purely fuel economy reasons. It is not a Mazdaspeed or even close. No sport tune, no sport suspension no body accessories. Just another turbo eco car. Zoom Zoom sad to say has died, at least for now. Maybe once enough people complain or show disappointment that will change.
I've spoken to one of Mazdas product managers (who is an old friend of mine) and he told me that there's an inline 6 RWD Mazda 6 in the works and it's probably going to have about 400 hp, that gives me hope that maybe there's something left from this pile of old tissues that was once called zoom zoom. Apparently it's going to be released by the end of 2021, worst case 2022 and I can't wait!!!
I agree the power amount for the 3 is lacking, but Mazda to my recollection wasn’t marketing it as a speed3, or a high performance variant. So to complain that it’s not a performance car is a little disingenuous. Other than that, it’s a solid video.
Compared the Civic, he’s correct. But to then bring in the GTI and GLI as other options if the power of the Mazda is a let down? That’s not a fair comparison because the 3 isn’t a performance car. They raise valid pitfalls about the 3, power being the biggest. BTW, they literally open the video hoping it was the rebirth of the speed3, which again, it isn’t being marketed as 🤷🏻♂️
The reason everyone is wanting to talk about performance is because Mazda was one of the top performers and, for what seems out of nowhere, they stopped after 2012 MazdaSpeed 3, but with rumors of starting it up again along with the rotary engine. So for those of us that really know what Mazda is capable of, and what has been promised with the skyacti-x, the lack of power is a major let down. Lastly some of us would argue that simply turbocharging the engine like everyone else would be an easy fix to the lack of power that Mazda simply will not do and to me that is frustrating.
I had a Speed6 and Speed3 and Speed6 didn’t sell well. People love to talk about them but families don’t want manual shift cars. Mazda knows that and is moving towards what people want, and people want beautiful cars that have decent fuel economy while still driving lively. That’s what the Mazda 3 is
I am a Mazda dealer. The display that shows different segments in front of the vehicle shown is for the Radar Cruise Control, which you didnt even mention. It sets the distance that your infrared sensor, found behind the mazda front emblem, will react to an incoming vehicle. It varies 1-4 car lengths. Owner's manuals are a thing.
Thanks guys, as a civic owner, I love my car and don't have any issues... I always loved Mazda 323/Mazda 3, however, I always choose civic because I feel it's better.
If the Mazda had better storage, practicality, space, and a little more handling, I would have gotten the Mazda over my current Civic. The Civic is just so versatile and the CVT is so smooth like the Corolla CVT. The Mazda felt great to drive, no problem. The Civic has blindspots, but the Mazda has a massive side panel which made it hard to see behind.
All three cars discussed are so different that it entirely comes down to the priorities of the shopper. Civic: one of many "compact" mainstream cars that have evolved into what was considered a mid-size car; youthful styling Mazda: truly a compact car, and a less-expensive alternative to the Acura ILX (no AWD) or, nearly, Audi A3; elegant styling GTI: performance vehicle; performance-vehicle styling
Solid review once again! As a Mazda fan, I genuinely hope Mazda listens and add a more powerful version in 2020. Something similar to the CX5 turbo would be awesome and more persuasive for their slogan "Driving Matters".
@@mikeschiavoni5973 Plus. There are less reliable and once you get them on the road disappoint in fuel economy. I've noted all these armchair TH-cam car experts are really the only ones who pine for a turbo in damn near everything.
That C-pillar on the Mazda 3 is sharp and makes it look more solid and “hot hatch” ready ... love it regardless of what the rest of the world says lol - great review as always!
I enjoyed the review, I'd be happy with the 2.5 personally. Give a little away in speed off the line for presumed reliability. Just tend to avoid turbo's.
I think you guys should try and drive the AWD and FWD versions of the Mazda back to back. There is definitely some noticeable power delivery and throttle response differences between the two, with the AWD feeling noticeably heavier and more sluggish than the FWD version. Having driven both myself, I don't think weight is the only factor creating the difference.
I know this is a really old comment but usually an AWD has more drivetrain loss, so extra weight mixed with less horsepower making it to the wheels would make a very noticeable difference.
Great content as always. Very insightful and engaging. I'm also glad you didn't gloss over the Mazda 3's underwhelming performance. I'd personally take a Civic Si over the Mazda, Civic Touring, and Golf GTI. Arguably the best value in the segment, very reliable, and great fuel economy, yet still able to put the power down and corner tightly.
Honestly, saying that the Mazda is underpowered with 186 hp is crazy. I'll admit I haven't driven it, but i drive a 110 hp diesel every day and that doesn't feel anywhere near underpowered, so i honestly can't imagine this being underpowered. But then again, it might be an american thing, that us Europeans doesn't understand - here in Denmark, anything with more that 150 hp is bordering fast. I just drove the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with 325 hp and that felt insane. It has to be said though, that the Ioniq 5 is the most powerful car i've ever driven, so i guess it would feel insane. But still, I stand by my opinion, that a medium-small hatch with 186 hp psysically cannot be underpowered.
I have a 2017 Civic Hatch and for the most part, I love it but not without some complaints. The CVT is fine, not great, not bad, its fine. I will say when you drop it into "Sport" mode you'll definitely get a bit more excitement since the car will hold at a higher RPM. But because I'm a bit of an enthusiast, I would have gone with the Manual. The Steering, I wish it was tighter. The styling of the car depends on any persons taste. For me, I think it looks energetic and fun however I do understand why someone would think its "Over Stylized" Oh and the Fuel economy is outrageous. This car does fantastic on gas. Overall, these guys summed up everything about the car that I agree with. It's awesome but if I had to do it all again, I would have to absolutely agree with these two and get the Base model GTI.
I have the hatch too and I will definitely have to agree. Haha. Hopefully I can afford one some day, they're sharp cars. Hell, I'll even save up for the Autobahn or the Rabbit GTI
I'm the Real One. They are good cars, it pulled my EP3 Si top end and stayed with my uncle’s RSX Type - S. I gotta race it again with my K24A2 in my Si but the Hatch has a amazing motor.
The Mazda infotainment system is the best because you shouldn't be looking and clicking a bunch while you're driving. It has the system for you to change what you're listening to, sending/reading messages, callingC etc. via voice activation. You shouldn't be trying to click everywhere while driving, if you HAVE to, then pull over. I apply the same rules of phones to infotainment. It's still distracted driving and Mazda is trying to mitigate that which I appreciate
I test drove both a top-spec Jetta GLI, and a mid-tier Mazda3 hatch w/ a 6-speed manual. Bought the Mazda. Love it. No regrets. Great car. Cargo space is a bit small. But the rear seats fold flat in two sections, so it gets useable quickly if you need it to.
@@richl1319 Nope, what I ended up getting was a "used" 2018 model, Touring, which is the middle of the three trim levels on that car. I say "used" because it had just over 5K miles on it. Hemmed and hawed between that one and a 2019 Grand Touring (top trim), but Mazda actually offered a longer warranty on the used car over the new one. So lower payment by about $80(US) per month, plus two extra years on the warranty meant I went for the 2018. Really the only feature I think I'll miss is the radar cruise control that I could have had in the other one. Not that I'd use it that much. It just makes insurance cheaper, lol. Anyway, I've had it since September, and it's been great for what I need. Love the interior, and the gearbox. Have you test driven one yet?
Kris Reilly That’s sort of where I am now in deciding between what year to get I love the updated look of the 19-20 but it does cost more and I’m looking to get a fully loaded one. I love apple CarPlay and the 2018’s don’t have that feature I believe. I also wish it had rear ac vents for my passengers
Kris Reilly yeah insurance is already a scam no need to pay way more than what we already pay. Are you required to have full coverage insurance with a 2018 vehicle ?
I'm with you on the new Mazda engine coming out. The SkyactivX will make or break this 4th gen Mazda3. I have the 2.0 SkyactivG and its plenty, but having a revolutionary engine like that will be very intruiging.
Would be so easy to put the 2.5T with a tune in there, give it 300hp, some stiffer shocks/springs/swaybars, a LSD (or several for the AWD) and call it a Mazdaspeed :P
Why are you two not a million plus subscribers yet. Your channel is good enough for its own prime time show - especially with an addition of timed performance, etc.
Thank you guys for taking the time to thoroughly explain why the awd in this Mazda was never needed in the practical sense. It’s been added first and foremost to boost sales and justify a higher price. Too many people have been brainwashed by TV Ads into believing that awd is always better and has no drawbacks. In the case of this car, awd should be avoided. 99% of the time the awd drive shaft, differential and 2 extra half shafts will be dead weight slowing you down and decreasing fuel economy. This car has just the right amount of pep for fwd. And if you think you’ll do well in the snow, remember fwd on winter tires will always be safer than awd on all season tires.
@@matwxx lol i guess you never owned a Honda. Still have my grandpa's 70's classic civic, mint condition. I've got offers to sell this collectors for 15k to a museum.
@@wanglee21 I have found Mazdas to be very reliable cars. Including the 2 that I have now, I have owned 7 Mazdas since '92. I put over 100k on several of them, and over 200k on the '07 Mazda3. I drive a lot, drive them hard, and they have held up very well! Really cant imagine driving anything but Mazdas!
Karl Lee talk to all the people who are having insane problems with the new turbo Civic. There was a time when Honda was reliable but that’s long since past
I love your creative approach to car reviews, you guys have great chemistry and you provide a visceral, informative and entertaining perspective. I think that 186 Hp and torque is plenty in any small car, why the Mazda feels slow is more about weight and the availability of max torque (@6000 RPM) which in this comparison the Civic beats it. The weight difference is an amazing 320 pounds in favor of the Civic. Also, can we talk about the loss of the multi-link rear suspension in this iteration, a "twist beam" is very low rent in this otherwise upscale compact car.
it still drives amazing though, i barely notice anything bad when compare it to the 06 mazda3 I used to have, it still plants into the corners and feels good and under control.
Large reason why I bought the 2021 Mazda (non turbo) is awd and non cvt. It’s unfortunate manual isn’t option for awd but it isn’t a huge loss for me. Now power wise, it isn’t a speed demon but it has plenty of power imo where most people could enjoy. I live in the north and currently we’re seeing quite a bit of inclement weather and I feel very confident driving this car on messy roads. Also something to add is that this car is surprisingly roomy, I’m 6.2 and very comfortable. No buyers regret :).
Mazda is an engine short of a stellar car. Top Gear review put it nicely: "For a regular hatch it’s rather pleasing. But it’s currently a car in in search of a decent engine."
Psst! A little secret. In real life, the Sport / Sport Touring 6MT is underrated by Honda; the engine actually makes more like 195HP / 200lb.ft. AT THE WHEELS (Compared to the 180BHP/177lb.ft.)
I want all vehicles to come with the option of either Apple or Android upon purchase. Meaning before you get the keys the service department insets a card or something with the buyer's choice. I'm all Android. I want to choose a vehicle based on preference. And not limited solely on the OS. Thankfully, most manufacturers have or are in the process of doing just that. It's simply taken too long to get to this point. The last thing anyone wants to do is head to a local installer for an aftermarket head. Until now that was exactly what I've had to do. Great program boys. I immensely enjoy your videos!! Cheers from Seattle.
@@SoupHysteria you still can get the 2.5 as long as you're not getting the literally lowest trim. I drove one and man was it good, Mazda manuals really are something else (though I've only driven recent manuals by Honda and Mazda) it felt so easy to drive but still somehow had that connection. Felt Hella cramped in though
If you want a Mazda hatch, get the manual. It's fwd, has all of the good stuff equipped, and will make the car feel much quicker, if not by the numbers. I'd love to own a manual 3 hatch because it's fun, premium, and drop-dead gorgeous!
I recently drove the 2024 awd and fwd Mazda3. And I couldn’t describe it at the time but the feeling of the car was so different I think this video did a good job describing that. I ended up with the fwd because of that
So I traded in my Civic EX-T for a 2020 Accord Sport 2.0T 10 speed, and it's amazing all around for me and my family, I have a friend that has Mazda 3 like the car you are testing, and it's really nice visually in and out, drives very nice too, but I would still choose civic, or better yet...I chose the Accord.
Agreed. I'm rolling my eyes hard at this "review" and the people so into the "SLow" ....I came from let's see...15 years of back to back sports cars each could monkey stomp these cars speedwise (AND the ones VW they recommend at the end too)...but you know what something weird happened to me.......I got older and my 100 mile daily commutes just were miserable in sports cars. i wanted comfort and since I'm not rich enough for a true luxury car for a bit of indulgence in my interior as well... Mazda 3 filled that bill INCREDIBLY well. I find it a very fun car to drive. Now I won't blow sunshine up your arse , YES I did mumble some phrases under my breath about missing the speed of my other cars...but for what it is... its fine. Just takes getting used to about that (hey this car has 200 less torque and HP than I've been used to...) . A product of now being in my mid 40's? Probably...hey it happens....but I'm really digging comfort and luxury....its winning me over .....fast.
I cant stop watching these videos I know I'm behind on them but I pick up my 2020 honda civic hatchback sport touring tomorrow after it gets tinted and clear front bra and I'm so stolked these videos made my car decision so much better and educated thanks guy!!! 🔥💛
To be very honest, in my opinion, nothing mainstream trumps the Mazda 3, if they introduce the turbo charger to it, then the decision would simply be easier to me. Either way, the decision is made. MAZDA wins.
As a Honda guy, something about Mazdas I have driven has never seemed quite right and I’ve never really liked ANY Mazda car I’ve driven. Could be the lack of power, body roll, interior design or something I have no idea. But for many reasons, every Honda I have owned just feels like home, and I have never been disappointed in any Honda I’ve owned. Currently drive a 2019 Civic Hatch and I absolutely love it! Highly recommend them!
The last 2 minutes answered every comparison question I've had in my head while looking for a car. GTi > GLi > Mazda3... Looks like I'm waiting for the mk8. Please come soon VW
Gearing-wise for the Mazda, 1st and 2nd gear is fine IMO. 100kph 2nd is also good for autocross :) My gripe is 3rd where the gearing goes a notch longer and falls in a dead spot from 2nd. 3rd onwards needs to be a good 10-15kph shorter. I've the 2.0 3rd gen btw, 6 speed obv. EDIT: 10s 0-60 ? Holy shit are you sure your press car isn't in limp mode ? lol. My 2.0 does it in low 8s...
A lot of people always bag on CVTs as being lifeless, drony, etc, but I owned a 2017 Honda Civic Coupe Touring for a year and honestly... it's not that bad. As in, I actually had more fun than I thought I would. The CVT worked really well with the car. It had no paddle shifters, but that's fine. Sure it got a bit drone-y when I hit the gas but I really didn't mind it. It definitely got the most out of the engine, that's for sure.
Matt Exactly. The CVT gets you in the Peak HP Rev range at all times, especially in L mode. We did a 6.8 0-60 in our LX Hatchback CVT. They are very quick for a non Si Civic. They did a good thing making it a forced induction engine, and not only power wise but mpg. We got 45 mpg on a long highway trip
You people are ridiculous. What is with everyone’s obsession with cars being fast? You gonna go 120 mph to the grocery store? You gonna outrun the cops? No. You’re going to merge onto the highway with traffic. Stop bashing economy cars for being slow when their objective has never been to be fast. It’s been to deliver better fuel economy without sacrificing everything else.
I used to own a 2006 Mazda3 sedan. It eventually died (literally only because of the rusty ford chassis...) went to a 2018 kia soul and hated it, then it got stolen, now I just bought a 2021 manual mazda3 hatchback FWD with the premium package and red leather. I love this car so much, hands down one of the best cars Ive ever driven and owned and it just looks amazing ESPECIALLY for the price. Especially as a manual and FWD i have no issues with power delievery, and I dont drive aggressively either. Ive been getting 30 to 35mpg in the city, maybe 29 if I do drive more aggressive, and on the highway I get 40 to 45 MPG (american units and using 93 octane). I never use trunkspace much anyways, even my 06 mazda3 sedan had plenty of space taking stuff back from ikea trips just bungie the trunk down if something stuck out. This car as the manual especially feels so zippy and agile and fun to drive. The only thing I DONT like about this car is the premium Bose speakers and the visibility is slightly not great for the hatchback but I drive fairly safely and aware so its never been an issue (plus it has blind spot monitoring). For the speakers, the frequency response especially for the low end bass is NOT flat so some songs hit a frequency that the bass just BOOMS to at an almost uncomfortabley loud and low level, and other songs with deep or slightly higher low end bass are sometimes very "under bassed". songs with a sweeping low end bass synth really emphasize this not flat response as youll hear it drastically go from quiet bass to normal to VERY loud to normal. I was able to slightly correct it isnt perfect, so I need to do some more tweaking. The bass definitely gets loud though and the audio is for the most part clear, but some frequencies with the bose speakers (low and mid) just dont sound slightly muddy sometimes. I really wish it had a flat frequency response and at least a 3 band EQ, you can only adjust the low and high ends, no midband adjustment. I found a good reddit post of someone who did some frequency response tests and tested how the bass and trebble settings in the infotainment affect the sound on the bose speakers and it showed very interesting results. that link is right here for anyone interested. www.reddit.com/r/mazda3/comments/kmti1q/test_results_the_bose_speaker_system_in_my_2019/?context=3 I feel like my base speakers in my 06 mazda3 sounded a bit better overall in terms of the frequency response. that car had good bass but not too much and it didnt sound muddy at all. I have definitely leared i am one of those people who do NOT like how BOSE does their audio. Also as for how the kia was, the 2018 kia souls base trim speakers were terrible, there was very VERY little to no low end bass unless I maxed out the volume, which was another issue I had. the audio overall was not loud so often with the windows down and/or on the highway I would get real close to maxing out the volume) The kia overall was not a great car imo for so so so many reasons: The audio was weak and quiet / not very clear, the handling was bad, not amazing gas mileage, burns oil from factory, gets tossed around in the wind and on the highway (cus its a big cube), the steering was too light so the car liked to wander in its lane especially on the highway which made road trips uncomfy after constantly moving the wheel back and fourth constantly on top of the bad handling, the fact that the trunk was vertical made it overall have less useful and less deep storage room than my old 06 mazda3 sedan, and last but certainly not least it got stolen thanks to the stupid security issue / kia boys trend. Only think I liked about it was the orange paint and it was my first car with bluetooth and android auto (my 06 mazda3 I had to add an aux port which I never really had an issue with, but built in bluetooth / navigation screen wouldve been nicer than a phone mount, but overall the mazda3 was a better feeling, comfier, better driving car than the kia for BOTH mazda3 generations Ive owned now).
Honda: - Rev hang galore with the manual -> nope - CVT -> nope - 2 seats (because I hit my head in the rear at a whopping 176 cm tall, which means those seats are useless) -> nope Mazda: - AWD and the 6 speed auto are power hogs -> Get the manual with FWD, it will be more engaging - Look at it - Look at the interior It is a no brainer. The Civic ST w/CVT has 162 lb.ft. torque. The 177lb.ft. version applies only to the 6MT version. (I drive a 6MT version, and it's way more fun than with the CVT)
THANK YOU for pointing out how overrated awd is in MOST scenarios. On snow/ice of course it has its advantages to get the car moving (although stopping can be even worse with awd due to added weight). Not to mention the added costs that go along with awd.
While slower, the Mazda engine will likely be more reliable than the Civic turbo 1.5L which has a history of pretty serious issues. Unless you really need a bigger engine and car (most single daily commuters don't) I like the Mazda (particularly for girls).
"... Melissa!" And I'm dead. Hilarious.
What would you get mazda 3 AWD or the Subaru WRX for all year round driving?

The interior of that Mazda looks premium enough to be mistaken for a compact luxury car.
JN DSTY that’s because it is. I talked to Mazda and they’re officially competing with Lexus , Acura etc
If only the performance matched the interior....

Well now mazda announced a turbo charged mazda 3.

The mazda3`s design, especially the interior is amazing!! Especially for the price of the car!
I agree the power amount for the 3 is lacking, but Mazda to my recollection wasn’t marketing it as a speed3, or a high performance variant. So to complain that it’s not a performance car is a little disingenuous. Other than that, it’s a solid video.
okay, but disingenuous is not the right word lol. He's comparing it to the civic, which feels and is faster, not to a mazdaspeed product.
Compared the Civic, he’s correct. But to then bring in the GTI and GLI as other options if the power of the Mazda is a let down? That’s not a fair comparison because the 3 isn’t a performance car. They raise valid pitfalls about the 3, power being the biggest. BTW, they literally open the video hoping it was the rebirth of the speed3, which again, it isn’t being marketed as 🤷🏻♂️
"Zoom, zoom"...not😒. They need to take that moniker away.

Civic: one of many "compact" mainstream cars that have evolved into what was considered a mid-size car; youthful styling
Mazda: truly a compact car, and a less-expensive alternative to the Acura ILX (no AWD) or, nearly, Audi A3; elegant styling
GTI: performance vehicle; performance-vehicle styling

Arguably the best value in the segment, very reliable, and great fuel economy, yet still able to put the power down and corner tightly.
wow if only that mazdaspeed3 was real..that render is GORGEOUS

The Mazda infotainment system is the best because you shouldn't be looking and clicking a bunch while you're driving. It has the system for you to change what you're listening to, sending/reading messages, callingC etc. via voice activation. @@richl1319 Nope, what I ended up getting was a "used" 2018 model, Touring, which is the middle of the three trim levels on that car. I say "used" because it had just over 5K miles on it.

Mazda is an engine short of a stellar car. Top Gear review put it nicely: "For a regular hatch it’s rather pleasing. But it’s currently a car in in search of a decent engine."
My thought exacly
Too much reading, not enough driving...
@@valdius85 I drive M3 2017 model. And based in EU we only got crappy 122HP engine in this gen 4, unlike the rest of the world.
@@DBSTH0R I was excited about new RAV4... Until I've learned that it is 2.0l CVT on my market :). Strange new world
love you guys, such honest reviews, and I appreciate the hands on feedback
I'd get the Civic 6MT for the sportiness.
182 turboed horeses going through my right hand and left foot... yes please!
Uhm, I definitely would like AWD more than 30 days in Canada. Prairies.
Yeah I'm here I'm in Michigan where it snows a lot.
My fwd civic never got me stuck
The C-pillar is my favorite part! Love the look of this thing
I would rather to get FWD with manual on Mazda.
atsawin thongsumak so do i👍🏻
I could be wrong but the manual version of the 2019 mazda 3 drops the power to 155HP. 186hp seems to be exclusive to the automatic
There's no manual
@@armanmaaba600 depends on your country but in NA and EU there is
If you want a Mazda hatch, get the manual. It's fwd, has all of the good stuff equipped, and will make the car feel much quicker, if not by the numbers. I'd love to own a manual 3 hatch because it's fun, premium, and drop-dead gorgeous!
You forgot that it’s also way harder to steal.
The Mazda all day long! Power is not an issue for me , if I wanted power I would get a V8.
Uh no
Clous von uh yes
Savage Geese has an indepth look at the Mazda 3, many areas not touched here.
Savage Geese review is great and way more mature than this review.
I cant stop watching these videos I know I'm behind on them but I pick up my 2020 honda civic hatchback sport touring tomorrow after it gets tinted and clear front bra and I'm so stolked these videos made my car decision so much better and educated thanks guy!!! 🔥💛
I think the recommendation for a 3 front wheel drive in a manual is a good one. It’ll be more fun to drive than either of the automatics anyway.
Honda Driving. Mazda Interior.
The '3 feels like a sub-compact compared to the Civic.
2WIREG did you not watch the video....
@2WIREG You're a clown lmao. I like Mazda but Honda is the benchmark for driving experience in its class.
AWD is good on wet ,too. This is no Mazdaspeed ,so is no underpowered. No CVT for me
To be very honest, in my opinion, nothing mainstream trumps the Mazda 3, if they introduce the turbo charger to it, then the decision would simply be easier to me. Either way, the decision is made. MAZDA wins.
Floyd Dellon the FWD sedan version is a zippier car than the hatch AWD
@@gewdvibes Yeah. I think for the AWD to truly excel they'll need the turbo charger.
100kph 2nd is also good for autocross :)
My gripe is 3rd where the gearing goes a notch longer and falls in a dead spot from 2nd. 3rd onwards needs to be a good 10-15kph shorter. I've the 2.0 3rd gen btw, 6 speed obv.
EDIT: 10s 0-60 ? Holy shit are you sure your press car isn't in limp mode ? lol. My 2.0 does it in low 8s...
You had me at your "Bleep bleep bleep bleep!" alarm clock skit.
Thumbs up for singing Humble! Also would you mind throwing the mpg on the screen when you mention fuel economy? 🙏
Review the FWD Mazda as this would be a better comparison. Less weight will help with handling, acceleration and general comfort.
If you want a faster mazda, get the 6 with the turbo. I have 310 lb/ft of torque in a beautiful car that handles amazingly and has a great interior.
2.0 accord would smoke the 6. Hell the camry beats the 6.
Awesome! More comparison videos of "everyday" cars like this please!
Not sure if it’s considered an upgrade nowadays, but you guys should get your own tv show!
I found a good reddit post of someone who did some frequency response tests and tested how the bass and trebble settings in the infotainment affect the sound on the bose speakers and it showed very interesting results. that link is right here for anyone interested.
www.reddit.com/r/mazda3/comments/kmti1q/test_results_the_bose_speaker_system_in_my_2019/?context=3
I feel like my base speakers in my 06 mazda3 sounded a bit better overall in terms of the frequency response. that car had good bass but not too much and it didnt sound muddy at all.
Love the Pepsi / Coke analogy. No, Pepsi is never okay.
Honestly all the Hondas that I have drove have been fun and safe feeling cars especially after maybe 2008
Honda:
- Rev hang galore with the manual -> nope
- CVT -> nope
- 2 seats (because I hit my head in the rear at a whopping 176 cm tall, which means those seats are useless) -> nope
Mazda:
- AWD and the 6 speed auto are power hogs -> Get the manual with FWD, it will be more engaging
- Look at it
- Look at the interior
It is a no brainer. You just have to spec them right.
@2WIREG yeah and the heavier car will still weigh more with the same added passengers, so what's your point?
I see that reliability is not a concern as you recommend a VW.
Which country/continental are you located? It's not good in mine haha.
haha .. ya buy a VW ...but be sure to get road side assistance.
While slower, the Mazda engine will likely be more reliable than the Civic turbo 1.5L which has a history of pretty serious issues. Unless you really need a bigger engine and car (most single daily commuters don't) I like the Mazda (particularly for girls).
Loved this review
Do you guys plan on reviewing the Mazda 3 Turbo when it comes out later this year?
Mazda for the interior and looks, Honda for handling and engines. Both great in their own right, but I'd pick the Honda because, well, right pedal.
Hope Mazda releases a MazdaSpeed version of the 3. AWD is a good sign of things to come.. Its been 10 years since they had a fast version of the 3
