20/3 22. Had/have a UK 1988 Honda Accord Aerodeck- 2 litre 2 door with gull wing tailgate. Very practicable. Only available as a Fastback at the time in the US which l found strange when discovering the Gen3 Accord was designed in California. Appears US was deprived of the best, imo, variant. (?)
@@ericfeldkamp3788That & their Carbon Grey look Stellar! Own a GTI Clubsport MK7 myself which is abit overkill wth 370 hp for normal relaxed driving. Next car i might be interested as a family car in is a Mazda CX-5. Most beautiful SUV!👍
I own a 2016 mazda 3. The driving experience has been awesome, zippy starts and pretty smooth cornering/handling. Plus it has a wide hood compartment allowing you to work easier under the hood. Love my zoom zoom.
Loved my mazda 3.. except.. apparently if is a known fact that the catalytic converter will need to be replaced after 100k miles... And it is the entire exhaust that has to be replaced... That was my only disappointment w that car...
You need to pray that you don't have a problem with something like the computer or other part that is not available from a an auto parts store or site. Your car will be sitting at the repair shop for weeks if you do.

My wife was shopping for her first new car in 2005 & I encouraged her to buy a Civic or Corolla but after test driving them all she chose a manual Mazda 3. Since then I've owned a Civic, Jetta, Yaris & a Matrix & she is still driving the 3 & honestly its by far the better car. The manual transmission & suspension just feels so much better than the other.
Probably one of the biggest factors for a Mazda instead of a Toyota is that 6 speed transmission probably one of the few manufacturers that still use conventional transmission instead of cvts
@@rasheemthebestfirstone3274 it really doesn't matter both are great you want a reliable beater Toyota is great you want a realiable fun car to drive mazda is great too
I had a 2005 Mazda 3 hatchback until I upgraded to a 2014 Mazda 6 that I purchased in March 2013 (why car mfrs do this is beyond me). I put 180k miles on the 3 in that time with zero forced maintenance other than replacing the A/C compressor. Nine years later, I'm still driving the 6. Counting the RX-7 I bought in 1979, I have just about 500k miles on the three Mazdas with pretty much no unplanned maintenance issues other than the compressor. Totally reliable cars.
2016 mazda 6 grand touring and wow. The technology in this car for the year and price ($18k for 53k miles) is amazing. From the headlights that turn when you turn the steering wheel so you can see around the corner to the full leather interior with a flip up display, blind spot monitors, tinting mirrors, and sooooo much more I love this car and it is the best quality and luxury for the price
Great car indeed. Quite smooth and relaxed ride. Since i don’t consider turbos are very reliable in long term, i’m buying the 2020 touring GT (the top model in Australia is Atenza). Although touring doesn’t have 360 camera, heated and ventilated seats, the alloys are 17 which provide smoother ride and the engine is none turbo that is more reliable in my opinion. I just have 1 issue, the head lights are Halogen. Do you about how much does it cost to make the headlights LED?
I have a 2015 Mazda 3 Grand Touring with manual transmission. I can't say enough about how impressive this car is. It feels like a mini luxury car, yet zips around like a sportscar. I have had zero problems and in May I am giving it to my granddaughter for her 16th birthday, as I have ordered my new MX-5 Miata... 6 speed manual of course.
I bought a 2020 AWD Mazda 3 new! I did a serious test drive and looked at the 2020 Toyota Corolla. Comparing the two, the Toyota Corolla felt cheap and had a tin can feeling to it. Also, the interior of the Mazda 3 was way superior in every way!! And yes, as far as for long-term use we own a 2012 Mazda 3 sedan with Skyactive and have not had any issues with it.
I also have the 2012 Mazda 3 it was my first Mazda and I have been very happy with mine as well around 250,000 miles and still counting no makor issues at all. My next car i am leaning towards a Highlander however Huge part of me says get another Mazda maybe the CX9 i just dont like the Turbos never had a Turbo charged car and want a naturally aspirated engine.
I tested the 2020 Corolla first (I'm a big Toyota guy and thought it would be the car I wanted to buy)..... I was so underwhelmed my wife and I started shopping for an F150 for her (I have a very beat to Tacoma and wanted to get back into a small car.... She likes trucks). After a few F150's which we liked I drove the 2018 Mazda3 GT hatchback manual and was blown away compared to the Toyota. Bought it and really like it. It's a third car but I have more fun in that car than anything else I've owned for the$$$.
Back in 2006 when I was test driving cars, I drove a Toyota Matrix and noticed the interior was cheap plastic and the noise in it was terrible. Drove the Mazda 3 and loved the power, quietness and functional options instantly.
yeah, i also had 2010 mazda 3 and was amazing🤩 . i sold it recently, because i am leaving the country. Although I didn’t test drive the 2020 mazda 3, base the reviews i am considering mazda 6 for Australia. Everyone is saying 2020 mazda3’s suspension is too firm so i am thinking about mazda 6 lately.
How really firm are the suspensions? i watched every reviews and they all say Corolla is quite smoother and relaxed. but i don’t like the CVT, so i am considering mazda6
I had a 2015 mazda 3 and for a 20k msrp it was great. Decent interior, nice design, and handling that could nearly compare to premium rivals. Not to mention I could get 40 mpg highway.
But let's be honest handling isn't something that only premium carmakers can give you. I live in Germany and get to drive all the manual transmissions the carmakers put in their cars. The best ones for me are the 6speed Toyota, 6-speed Fords, 6-speed VW and 6-speed Mazdas on number one. Mercedes makes horrible feeling manuals way to wobbly and emotionless tho relatively easy to shift. BMWs are super hard to shift which I don't like, not notchy in any way but especially when you shift to reverse it feels like there are 2 tons trying to pull the stick back to neutral.
What do you drive NOW? I have a 2013 Mazda 2 -- incredible little runabout. Scoots and Zooms 💥 and feels like a Miata - and is FWD and has a back seat 💺
I have a 2022 Mazda3 hatchback 6MT and I’d say that it’s far superior than the Corolla. The only upside of the Corolla is that it is a Toyota and has a higher mileage rating.
The difference in mileage is because of the cvt....and the slightly lower mileage is a very acceptable sacrifice for the far superior driving experience that the torque converter provides.....Mazda's skyactiv engine is far technologically advanced and more efficient than that of the corolla and that helped to narrow the gap alot...If Mazda's engines were on the same level as that of the corolla...the gap could have been Alot wider ...that's why all the automakers are using cvts nowadays....but mazda managed to use torque converter and still achieve nearly the same fuel efficiency and this is engineering at its best !
2008 Mazda3 2.0L with 200k miles has been insanely reliable! Purchased used back in 2010 with 39k miles. At this point it’s just an extra shared car. We can’t justify selling it 🤷♂️
My dad has a 2004 Mazda 3 sedan 2.3L with 140k he bought new in '04. It just keeps running. A few minor issues, but we can't justify selling it. It's worth more to us as an A --> B vehicle than the $1,000 estimated value could ever provide!
I’m a massive Mazda fan now having owned 3 since 2014 with no issues. I used to be Toyota only. I went for a Mazda 3 over the Corolla back in 2014, awesome car, better interior and superior style over the Toyota. Plus all Mazdas on sale where I live in Europe come from Japan which is a huge bonus for me. If Mazda can produce the pedigree of reliability that Toyota has they will be hard to beat! I’m looking forward to see the next models they unveil over the next few years. Love Mazda, long live Mazda!
I love wagons too but hatchbacks are just a tad lighter and more tossable in corners. I owned 1 Passat wagon and 2 Mazda 6 wagons but then got a hatchback for a change of pace. I can still sleep in the back of my hatchback with the seats down.
I have a 6 speed manual Subaru Crosstrek and it's slow but everything else about it is amazing. Great mileage, great in ice and snow, limited towing capabilities, INCREDIBLE in the corners.
Dude the wagon is underated I wanted my next car to be one, I had a 99 legacy that I would carry boards, doors, gravel ect. and laugh at guys who bought 35k$ pickup trucks
I have a 2017 CX5 GT and love everything about it. Has about 47k miles & absolutely zero issues so far. Hope to keep it for a while. Kicks the RAV4 & CrV’s arse in pretty much every aspect.
Never been a mazda fan, but was searching for a cheap daily since my focus ST isnt feul efficient and came across a mint condition 2013 mazda 3 hatchback for 4,800, I couldn't pass up the deal because of how nice it was inside, it's nicer than my focus ST I paid 15,000 for, now I'm thinking about selling it lol
We got the 2019 Mazda 3 AWD - it’s a fun to drive car. Love the premium interior, the comfy seats, the safety tech, and the Bose stereo. It’s a nice cabin to be in daily commute, and long road trips.
@@richsweeney1115 With all my respect Mazda torque converter automatic is far superior than the Cvt in the civic or the corolla....there is basically no comparison between the two !!....And this is exactly a strong point for the mazda not the other way round ...the last thing u can criticize is the transmission especially when all the competitors have such shitty transmissions that any automotive enthusiast will just hate !!..
@@khaledali-di9mtExactly! I test drove a Honda Civic turbo and it didn’t even feel like I was driving a turbo powered car. Felt more like I was driving a rubber band powered car. Mazda for the win!
We have 2 Mazdas, got a 2015 Mazda 6 last year for my 18 year old son and a 2014 Mazda 3 for my daughter last month. So far so good, hopefully they will be as reliable as our two other Mercedes cars, knock on wood.
I owned a ‘19 3 hatch for a year, beautiful car no issues/drama. Traded it in on newer cx5 because it met the needs of the family better, made our lives easier. We own 2 cx5’s but I can attest to the reliability and trunk space of the 3 hatch.
Bought my first Mazda last month. Its an used 3 2019 G122 in hatchback with manual gearbox and almost all packets (Bose, Leather,...) and I fell in love after first ride. The quality of interior is something you will not see in cars of this segment and the ride is almost heavenly smooth. Once you go Mazda, you will not go back indeed.
Im looking at the same engine G122 does it feel slow ? Ppl are scarryinf me with the reviews that is slow etc etc , im not a racing guy ofc , casually driving 50-80 and outside town sometimes 100-110 never above , u think i will feel the car slow ?
All this stuff about air bags. My Mom's arm was My air bag. Yes, We had car seats, but I still remember being held back with My Mom or Aunt's arm a few times.
furniture moving is definitely possible in a hatch as is sleeping in car with better weather on road trips! But my 2 inch thick foam pad and blanket is essential for those cross country trips!
I own a 2018 Mazda CX-5 for close to a year now, not had any problems from it and really enjoy driving it. My only gripe is that my leg hits the center lower console at times, but it's not that bad really... I'm seeing a lot people drving Mazda's lately, so they are slowly gaining market value and become just as popular as Toyota's.
I have Mazda 3 hatchback from 2003, made in JAPAN (In Europe and Japan first model was in 2003) and I love it. From mechanical standpoint there is nothing wrong, everything is working fine, engine doesn't take any oil to this day (gasoline 1.6). Manual trans is very good, precise steering and handling on the road. Only paint is weak and metal parts/body panels must be protected from rusting, but nowdays this is common in most car manufactures. Overall I'm content with this generation of Mazda. I will try to stay with Mazda when I will be looking for my next car. I consider Toyota as well but their prices are higher.
About to crack 120k miles (193k km) in my 2018 3 Grand Touring hatch with the 2.5 and 6-spd manual -- bought it new in 2018 with only 5 miles (8 km) on the clock. Threw some Pilot Sport A/S 4s on, a CorkSport front strut bar, a rear sway bar, Borla exhaust, and a short shift kit... absolute hoot to drive. Oh, and it was $12,000 cheaper than a comparably equipped Mk7.5 GTI I was cross-shopping.
Updates on the GR Corolla: it does have the engine from the GR Yaris, but it was upgraded to 300 hp, it has 6 speed manual only, and it's all wheel drive. As standard it has a limited slip differential for front wheels, but as part of the optional performance pack, it can also have it in the rear. It even has a manual handbrake.
Apparently the 2015 Mazda 3 2.5 is kinda rare. People hardly mention it. I enjoy mine but it has had some minor issues, mainly due to the first owners that only put 21k miles on it in 5 years and did little maintenance. Had to replace both fuel pumps. Also, leaking VVT solenoid/ OCV valve. Other than that, I drive a lot and have over 100k miles on it now with minimal issues.
I also have a 2014 CX5, 115k, Flawless.. Love the vehicle. My only real gripe is USB music support (I take trips in it).. Ugh, have to read from beginning at every start. Just had to quit using it.. frustrating
I have a 2008 Mazda3 GT, manual transmission, with 187,000 miles. Bought it used 6 years ago with 48,000 miles. The only problems I had, besides replacing brakes and clutch ( around 160,000 miles), is #1 oxygen sensor when I first got it and I think I need a new alternator soon. It's been a great reliable car and is my daily driver. Still gets around 28 mpg commuting and around 33 mpg during road trips. When it hits 215,000 miles, I plan on getting another Mazda3. Really thinking of getting the hatchback. Of course it will have to be manual transmission!
I worked for Mazda when the Mazda 3 became popular. The 3 was originally always made in Japan which helped in the reliability and solid build quality. The 2018 Mazda 3 I drove was nice but the shifter felt stiff. You might give Honda Civic and Toyota Corolla Hatches a look too. I have not driven the latest Mazda 3.
that's funny you had pretty much the same car I had and had exactly the same "issues" at nearly the same mileage lol. I don't consider an oxygen sensor a problem those can fail any time, breaks and a clutch are both wear items so that's really just basic maintenance. FYI my little bro now has my old 3 hatch GT, he has it up to 220K miles. I've had 2 of the 4th gen 3's. I bought a premium and was quit fond of it, but I wanted more zoom zoom, so a year later I bought a Turbo. Only complaint i have with it is they don't offer it in a stick. i really didn't realize how much i was going to miss the stick. It just makes things more fun.
i have my 2012 Mazda 3 for 6 years now got it at 45,000 miles now i have around 250,000 miles on ot and its stil a joy getting in it everytime. They are great cars was my first Mazda and been extremely happy with mine no major issues at all.
I have M3 hatch 2017 Front wheel drive Skyactive, replaced rear brakes last year because low brake fluid signal (Mazda service told) close to 50k. Runs good, keep passing BMWs 🤩. Cost of fueling makes me smile! The hatch is great during Home Depot pick ups.
Mazda 2018 CX5 Sport AWD owner. Wanted the handling of a Porsche, styling of a Alfa Romero, reliability of a Lexus, at the price of a Kia. Four years later not disappointed and it only cost me $22,400.
I got the 2014 Mazda 3 brand new with the 2.5L engine. It’s done 120,000km still runs and feels like new. The only thing is that the suspension is less stiff than before so it doesn’t feel as sporty as it used to. I also had rear brakes that were seizing which were replaced under warranty. Other than that, no issues at all not even considering replacing it as it doesn’t feel like a 8 year old car at all
Back in 1983 I bought a brand new Mazda 323 wagon, my buddy bought a brand new Toyota Corolla wagon. The Mazda went 90,000 miles before the engine blew up, the Toyota went to 210 thousand miles, and the engine never blew up, he just crashed it in a the end
@@richsweeney1115 Company philosophy never changes, when the freeze plug came out of the Mazda engine at 4000 miles and fried the head, the company refused to fix the problem, that shows that execs don’t care about new buyers- Can you show me that Mazda now cares about its buyers and fix problems?
@@jeffzekas I know they are almost as good as Honda and Toyota now. And I'm sure the same executives don't work for Mazda now. My friend has a 2010 6 spd Mazda 3, she's had it about 6 years, she got it with about 60k..she did have to do a clutch when she got it , but it has like 240k and runs like new. It's just needed maintenance and a couple minor things, a wheel bearing, control arm bushing, just a few small things. And I know a could other ppl with Mazdas with a lot of miles that runs excellent. So yes, I think they do care about quality more than they did.
@@hamiltons.2388 Go ahead if you want a nice feeling and driving japanese compact car. Tho in the Hatchback the second row headroom, and also the visability is that good. Other than that, very nice car.
@@hamiltons.2388 rear visibility is quite poor but you do get blind spot monitors to compensate for that. Also if you get the awd model you get a really small gas tank. But other than that I love it, I test drove a corolla hatch and a newer civic hatch (which I think looks terrible) and the mazda 3. I far enjoyed the Mazda over the other 2 because the interior and features you get are really a step above, and I think of the 3 its the best looking one. I live in Canada so the awd really was a huge bonus for me and I don't wanna have to sufffer through owning a subaru to have awd in a car platform LOL.
@@StatutoryGrape420 of course those were the three choices I'm currently looking at as well. I'm now just deciding between a used Mazda 6, Mazda 3 Sport, or Kia K5. I'm up here in Canada with you. Makes choosing a car much more difficult. I appreciate the response though!
@@hamiltons.2388 I considered the mazda 6 as well but I've always just prefered hatchbacks as opposed to sedans so the choice for me was very clearly the 3 Sport or other competing hatchbacks. The current mazda 6 has the same engine and transmission as the 3 so why not get it in a lighter and more fun to drive car was my logic on it haha.
I have the six speed manual 2019 Mazda 3 Premium model. It feels like a sports car and has looks to match. When I brought it in for a minor recall, I got to drive the automatic as a loaner. With the auto, gone was the feeling of power; gone was the acceleration: gone was the fantastic gas milage (I get 40 plus mpg in the mixed driving where I live in Apison Tennessee and the auto got in the low 30 mpg range), and gone was the look of a sporty, sleek car. Here in Tennessee, no one seemed to want the manual so I got a great deal on it. The Mazda 3 has about the easiest oil change on any car I've ever had. The oil filter and the drain plug are about 4 inches from each other and It takes one bolt on the plastic under guard to gain access. I change the oil every 7 to 8 thousand instead of the recommended 10. The factory recommended synthetic oil kit with the Mazda oil filter and new crush washer costs me under 50 bucks delivered. The car is a blast and the premium stereo with subwoofer , moon roof and fantastic seats make this a fine choice. It handles the country road as well as my 1965 Daytona Cobra replica and it's a joy to sit in it.
I have had my 2017.5 mazda 6 grand touring for 5 months now. Been a great car so far, very luxurious and lots of great options. It has 52k miles currently.
Do that and that baby will last long. The engine requires gf6 oil as well so never opt out for conventional or anything else. U can but the gf6 is more efficient because it’s designed for those gdi engines Mazda uses. Haven’t had any problems at all still runs like new

We just got rid of our 2008 Mazda 3 (barebones basic trim). Manual transmission. Over 200,000 km, no major mechanical issues, no rust. The only reason we got rid of it was because I was in an accident, and wrote it off. Wife has a 2020 Mazda CX-5, and I replaced my wrecked 3 with a brand new 2021 Mazda 3 turbo AWD. It has been amazing. I also owned a Mazda RX-7 back in the day. Mazdas have kept both my wife and I safe in accidents, have been insanely reliable, and are great to drive. Will never buy from another brand again. The only thing I wish is that they would bring back the small truck segment - miss the B2200!
I own a Mazda 626 Sedan in Prestige Silver Metallic colour, 1990 model ... bought brand new in Melbourne, Australia as a gift from my father for my 18th birthday. He paid $ 32,000 Australian dollars for it back then! It's now 32 years old, has done 500,000 kilometres (310,000 miles) and l continue to drive it daily. Has never failed me. Unbelievable car. I cannot part with it. My first and so far, only car ...!! It still looks like new and has always been outside for its entire 32 years, so far. People cant believe it! A few days ago, l purchased the 2022 Mazda 3 Sedan, with delivery expected in July '22. I am so excited. I am keeping my 626 and will never part with it and intend to drive both cars. The interior of the 4th gen Mazda 3 is BREATHTAKING! The exterior is so elegant. Simple, clean lines, luxurious and absolute CLASS. I ADORE, ADORE, ADORE MAZDA!
Have a 2020 Mazda 3 premium hatch! Love it, have no problems at all mechanically. Though, it definitely doesn't do amazing over the insane potholes here in Pa and I have multiple interior rattles from many parts of the dash. Honestly though it's perfect other than those minor things.
I have a 2008 Mazdaspeed 3 and its GREAT! Love the higher performance and the look of the car. The newer mazda3s just can't seem to look as cool as the 1st gen.
Toyota might have been the first to coin the term “liftback”, but the first popular liftback I ran across was the ‘71 Vega, and they called it a hatchback. I really liked the design of that Vega, because it combined sleek look of a fastback with the utility of a hatchback. I liked it so much that I still have a liftback today.
I bought a '78 corolla sr5 hatch back after graduating college. it was a great little car. I drove it for 20 years. I parked it as times changed in '98. I sold it to a 16 year old relative for 700 in 2003. It took him 3 months to wreck and finish it off.
Have a 2006 Mazda 3 hatch w/ 2.3L Grand Touring. Been a great car now has 140k on the odo. Will not hesitate in buying another Mazda when the time comes!
I have owned 2 Mazda 3s: to first was a 2006. I gave it to my uncle and it is still rolling with around 260k miles. My current is a 2011. Both are 5 speed manuals and have been very reliable cars! Both are sedans though
Scottie, I've been telling you about Mazda for several years now (just why have you been so slow to come around?) Where the USA manufacturers have basically walked away from producing solid (or any ) passenger cars, Mazda was ramping up and is pretty much now setting the bar. Solid cars that appear to be well built and are performing well with no obvious design flaws/weaknesses in the 5-10 year range (at least with the CX-5 model, which I own 3 and follow closely)
I have been driving various Toyota since 2006 which were good and in Feb 2022 I got myself a new Mazda3 AWD premium hatch in platinum quartz and it's so great, it brings a smile to my face, 3-5 days a week I smile at some point during my drive even if I'm sad. I love it. and it looks nice too. I can't believe I put this video in my watch list and only watched it now!
I am on my 3rd MAZDA. they are terrific. No major issues. Standard predictable maintenance items. Hub bearins in both my 3 and 6 2010 MAZDA s. at around 120k and 150k. Be careful to use MAZDA Trans fluid when Doing a flush or you will have problems. Expensive but worth it. MAZDA has been the most reliable cars I have owned in my 3 decades of driving. Definetly recommend. Put a rear sway bar in the MAZDA 3 hatchback and the handling greatly improved..
Just bought a 2021 Mazda 3 Select sedan, tested the hatchback but was hard to see out the back. Coming from a 2013 Imprreza Hatch, I preferred that Hatch to the 3 Hatch, setted on the 4dr Mazda 3. However CVT issues plagued my 13 Subaru and am now selling it. For its replacement, just got a sweet 2002 Mazda Protege 4dr ES with 120k miles. Love Mazda for its dedication to providing a fun driving experience. 🚗
Have a blue 2016 Mazda 3 GS Hatch in New Brunswick, Canada. It’s awesome for the winter roads and love the interior. Had a much stronger engine in my previous 2014 Mazda 3 GT Sedan though! Really like the coverage on Mazda’s.
Owned a few Mazda's now from new including the current model 2.5 litre 3. Very good cars and never once had a failure or even oil leaks after years of ownership on each.
i have a 2021 Mazda3 Turbo PP sedan that i bought summer and i love that car maybe a few things i don't like but it's more nitpicking if i really had to point out negatives about the car. one of the main reasons i chose Mazda instead of it's competitors was the transmission option... NO CVT!! glad Mazda is one of the very few car companies that still offer regular auto transmission
I own a manual 2010 Mazda3 with 123,000 miles. The car has been super reliable and I love it. HOWEVER, ever since I bought it sometimes under hard driving the ABS, Dynamic Stability Control and Brake lights would come on together. I would pull over, restart the car, the warning lights would go out and the car would drive normally. This problem became more frequent with time. Now the lights have come on permanently as soon as I start the car. The Mazda forums discuss this as a problem with sticking pistons in the ABS hydraulic module... sometimes the pistons don't retract properly, the related computer turns on the warning lights and shuts down the entire system, and the car defaults to normal braking without any of the electronics. Mazda narrowly missed a recall for this problem, they fought it tooth and nail because the repair was quite expensive. According to the forums the ABS hydraulic module needs to be replaced and the related computer needs to be reprogrammed. The ABS hydraulic module is very difficult to access behind the battery on the firewall with many brake lines attached to it - which are difficult to reach and remove. Cost to repair: $1,000 to $2,000 and it's most likely that Mazda will have to do it because of the computer programming issues. As a result of this problem Mazda reengineered the ABS hydraulic module for 2011 - and they use this upgraded module when repairing a 2010 car. Another major problem with this car - which is also addressed a lot in the forums - is the clutch. Since the car was new the clutch lacked clamping power and felt more like a motorcycle clutch - it just didn't grab quickly or hard enough. I took my car back to Mazda on several occasions but they always said my clutch was up to specs. I did manage to get a 110,000 miles out of it, at which time I upgraded to a better performance clutch. The car shifts wonderfully now but I so wish I'd done the upgrade years ago. I guess because the 2010 was the first year of this generation these were some of the bugs that needed to be worked out. Therefore I wouldn't recommend the 2010 Mazda3 manual. Probably from 2011 onward they were better cars as some of these bugs were addressed.
I love hatchbacks and I like the direction Mazda is taking but I think the Mazda 3 Hatchback looks too much like an SUV. The Sedan is still a good looking vehicle, IMO.
Just traded 2004 mazda3 hatch 129k one owner miles, car never let me down realiable as anything I ever owned, ac was fixed under warranty year's ago, front wheel bearings, resurfaced rear rotors, replaced main window switch and motor mount . Synthetic oil and synthetic transmission fluid. Drove in all climates. Bought a 22 Mazda 3 premium sedan cant stand the new hatchback blind spots . This new 3 is amazing, interior ,exterior, quality A+ . Worth waiting for due to shortage still made in JAPAN. Toyota dealers where a holes 7-10,000 over list se ya Toyota
I own a 2016 Mazda 3 hatch. Yeah back seat room sucks but the front leg room is great. At 6'5" tall I have leg room for days. In a car that small it's a miracle.
ha. i had a 79 toy celica liftback bought at 110k for $500 with the 20r.. put 70k on it,, added ford ranger coil over shocks .. slept , camped , haul bags of cement with it caught fire .. put a old gm 1bbl carb on it... a dam good car
2009 Mazda 3 5 door. 80,500 miles, manual transmission. 29MPG, while not the best is my average over every tank since I bought it brand new in November of 2008. Replaced a small valve for emission controls and one window motor. Just spent $260 for a high end detail and the tech said it was one of the cleanest he’d ever seen for a 14+ year old car. Garage it and absolutely cover it during any long term use. Don’t waste money on new cars, keep up with the Mx and they’ll last a LONG time. ZOOM ZOOM!
2015 Mazda 6 owner here. 309,000 miles and counting! Runs, shifts and drives like new. I replaced a noisy belt tensioner at about 120K but NOTHING else since! And I can’t tell you how much I’m loving the 34mpg right now. Great car!
2017 Mazda 3 ❤ I fell in love with it when I test drove it. Sleek and beautiful, smooth driving experience, feature packed (for its time). Nice balance between sporty, corporate and reliable! Love it
Scotty, People think of old Volkswagens as being stuck on the beetle but they came out with their Fastback in 1961. Please give them their due, just like people think that Chrysler came up with the minivan, Volkswagen had their minibus through the 50's.
If you want the Mazda 3 you're limited to the hatchback. All the sedan models are made in Mexico while the hatches are still Japanese assembled. I don't know why but even in this car shortage you can still find the Mazda 3 hatch for less than MSRP. It's the better buy over Toyota for only a thousand or two more bucks. I found one for $24500 and the MSRP is $25750. Mazda has lowering discrepancies between invoice and MSRP than more established brands like Toyota and Honda. Though I wouldn't touch any of those new Hondas since they have a 1.5T a CVT and are made in Ohio.
Don't call teh Matrix an Hatchback it feels like someones saying "that's basically a Civic or Golf". I would say it's a smaller, compact MPV. In Europe they sold something called a Toyota Verso it's comparable to that and people say these Versos are small family MPVs/vans.
Owning a 2015 st hb got it for a lil under 15k and best believe it shocks me how much fun and reliable the car is get me where I need to be and put a huge smile on my face when wanted.
I have owned both the Mazda 3 and Corolla for over 10 years and with 100,000 miles on both them. My experience is good and the reliability is similar for both cars.
I have a 2007 Mazda 3 sedan with the 2.0 liter engine, 5 speed manual. Has not been recalled a single time. Only issue so far was a failed thermostat (stuck open). Also had to replace front struts & rear shocks, but that's to be expected for the age of the car.
I own a 2012 Mazda3 sedan (daughter) and 2016 Mazda3 hatchback (me), both with the 6 speed manual transmission. Both are fun to drive, reliable, and economical with the 2 liter engine. MT has a light clutch and precise shifter
They had a 2019 Corolla Hatchback at the car lot when I bought my 2018 Corolla SE. At the time, I just thought the sedan looked better. The Hatchback had just came out and the one they had was still in the showroom. I looked at a Mazda 3, the styling was outstanding but the Corolla was proven to be so reliable and was a major factor in my buying decision. I had rented a 2017 Corolla when my POS Chevy Trailblazer was in the shop and I hated giving the car back! Toyota actually made an econo box that looked sharp and was fun to drive! The only thing I do not like about the Corolla is the low profile 17's, it rides pretty rough on bad roads. On the other hand it does corner very well on the highway. In the end I think Toyota sold me an excellent car for the money, not a single problem with it so far.

140k miles on my 2013 skyactiv Mazda3 and not a single issue.👍
I had a 2005 Mazda 3 hatchback until I upgraded to a 2014 Mazda 6 that I purchased in March 2013 (why car mfrs do this is beyond me). I put 180k miles on the 3 in that time with zero forced maintenance other than replacing the A/C compressor. Nine years later, I'm still driving the 6. Counting the RX-7 I bought in 1979, I have just about 500k miles on the three Mazdas with pretty much no unplanned maintenance issues other than the compressor. Totally reliable cars.
You made ridiculously good choices and likely owned arguably the best Mazdas of all time!
Man I'm debating rather to get a corolla or a mazda3
@@a9five Not a bad choice either way. IMO, the Mazdas are the more 'sportier' of the two.
@@arad9072020 Touring should have LED. They're fantastic
As a 2020 Mazda 3 owner I can safely say this is a monster car and I love every km in it!
2021 3 here. I will drive this thing forever!

I have a 2022 Mazda3 hatchback 6MT and I’d say that it’s far superior than the Corolla. The only upside of the Corolla is that it is a Toyota and has a higher mileage rating.
That's all that's needed!
Just make sure not to get one with a CVT transmissions , whichever you decide to get
Toyota makes their own cvt. D best
@@kevinanderson686 I believe Mazda avoids using the CVTs.
I’m just 36, but I’ve always loved the station wagon. It’s just so useful. It’s the best combination of many vehicles.

Yes to the hatchback! As one who does the grocery shopping and once a month minimum to Sam’s club I don’t want a sedan ever again.
furniture moving is definitely possible in a hatch as is sleeping in car with better weather on road trips!
The first gen Mazda 3's are good cars. I'm not sure what he's talking about.
About to crack 120k miles (193k km) in my 2018 3 Grand Touring hatch with the 2.5 and 6-spd manual -- bought it new in 2018 with only 5 miles (8 km) on the clock.

Don't get rid of it because of miles...my friend has a 2010 6 spd with 242k and runs like new, she got it like 6 years ago
that's funny you had pretty much the same car I had and had exactly the same "issues" at nearly the same mileage lol.
I love hatchbacks and it's a shame that we don't have a ton of choice of them in NA, however I have a 2020 Mazda 3 gt hatch lol
Any complaints about the Mazda 3? Thinking of buying a 2020-2021 model used
@@hamiltons.2388 Go ahead if you want a nice feeling and driving japanese compact car.
I have a 2015 mazda 6 2.5 and 6 speed manual. I love it so far, and I hope it stays reliable.
Haven’t had any problems at all still runs like new
@@bourboncat9229 Yes I actually heard about the gf6 oil from scottys channel. I love the car so far. It's my first mazda and I'm glad i bought it. My previous carcwas an accord coupe which was hit parked in front of my house totalling it and my neighbors ford escort. Got my insurance money and bought the mazda after doing a bunch of research on it.
@@puddleduckist it’s going to be a great car if ur a diy type of guy. The cabin air filter is also easy to swap u don’t have take apart anything just to reach in there. I hate those damn setups. The only expensive thing I saw that’s hard to find for cheap is those headlights. They’re well over 1k on the market
@@bourboncat9229 Yes I work on cars, restore classics as well. I have already swapped the cabin filter for a k&n washable one...super easy...dealer wants 65.00 to change...what a joke and rip off. I swapped the air filter fir an aem washable non oiled filter as well. Added an mv tuning rear diffuser with F1 brake light and also racing beat exhaust. Added a jbl 12 inch spare tire subwoofer that made the bose system rock and thump! Great car!! Next i want to lower it like 1 inch and make it sit more level.
I had a Pontiac Ventura hatch back . The rear folded down flat and came in very handy for entertaining
I ADORE, ADORE, ADORE MAZDA!
got my 2018 Mazda 3 GT sedan at 28k and just hit 45k with zero issues. super fun to drive with lots of features including sun roof 🙏
Wife just got a new 2022 CX-30 Turbo Premium Plus. I have never seen her so gaga over a vehicle. Getting over 30 MPG and the damn thing is super quick
Have a 2020 Mazda 3 premium hatch! Love it, have no problems at all mechanically. Though, it definitely doesn't do amazing over the insane potholes here in Pa and I have multiple interior rattles from many parts of the dash. Honestly though it's perfect other than those minor things.
Take it in to get the rattles fixed before your bumper-to-bumper expires. Rattles are covered under the 3 year/36k miles warranty.
Just bought a 22 mazda 3 and i love it. Beautiful and fun to drive. The hatchback was great but i bought the sedan because it was atleast 2g cheaper
I bought a '78 corolla sr5 hatch back after graduating college. it was a great little car. I drove it for 20 years. I parked it as times changed in '98. I sold it to a 16 year old relative for 700 in 2003. It took him 3 months to wreck and finish it off.
Sedans look way more stylish and mature in my opinion compared to hatchbacks. I own a 2019 Mazda 3 sedan (titanium) - best car purchase ever!
Have a 2021 Mazda 3 Hatch in the beautiful soul red. Love it and no issues! Zoom Zoom
Well, that's good, it's a year old!🤣😂🤣😂 I really like what Mazda has been doing with their crossovers and hatchbacks.
It’s a beautiful car
I personally have a Mitsubishi Mirage 2020. 15K miles so far and she treata me well and the hatch has been great for cargo.
I love my 2018 Mazda 3GT! It’s been a great car for 4 years now and no issues!
I have a 2011 Mazda 3 and My gf has a 2016 Mazda 6, both over 130k, excellent excellent vehicles!!
Is it bad that I don't ever want a CVT? I love manuals, but for commuting, I want an automatic. I have an unhealthy hatred of the CVT.
I just replaced my water pump, thermostat and coolant housing while doing a flush at the end. I love my 2012 Mazda 6 touring and it will keep going 😎
i have a 2021 Mazda3 Turbo PP sedan that i bought summer and i love that car maybe a few things i don't like but it's more nitpicking if i really had to point out negatives about the car. one of the main reasons i chose Mazda instead of it's competitors was the transmission option... NO CVT!! glad Mazda is one of the very few car companies that still offer regular auto transmission
If you need the extra room, no match.
My 2017 MAZDA 6 Sport is ROCKING! TOTOTA & MAZDA, are ONE! 👍
The Mazda3 hatch back is from Protégé5 2002. I had a mango yellow Protege5, it’s a great little car.
Totally different car from ground up, but yes it preceded the 3.
ha. i had a 79 toy celica liftback bought at 110k for $500 with the 20r.. put 70k on it,, added ford ranger coil over shocks .. slept , camped , haul bags of cement with it caught fire .. put a old gm 1bbl carb on it... a dam good car
Great car!
That's insane mileage!
What do you do for a living? Uber? Doordash?
I have a 2014 Mazda 3 with a fraction of those miles
2017 Mazda 3 ❤ I fell in love with it when I test drove it. Sleek and beautiful, smooth driving experience, feature packed (for its time). Nice balance between sporty, corporate and reliable! Love it
I have the Mazda 3 2018 manual transmission. I love her to death.
I just got a 2020 Mazda3 AWD Premium Hatch and I absolutely love it. Best car I've ever owned.
I like the look of hatchbacks, also when it rains heavily whilst driving you have the option of using the windshield wiper for more visibility.

In his defense, that is for his wife
Don't call teh Matrix an Hatchback it feels like someones saying "that's basically a Civic or Golf".
I would say it's a smaller, compact MPV.
In Europe they sold something called a Toyota Verso it's comparable to that and people say these Versos are small family MPVs/vans.
