I'm the Andrew that owns this.
I do around 1000kms a week in this in regional NSW, so it gets serviced every 15 weeks or so. Very much a fan of an independent mechanic.
The tyre noise is down to the Hankook tyres on it currently. They won't be refitted.
I cannot believe i left a pack of tissues (clean) in the passenger net and the right rear seat has never done that before. Honest.
    Great review as always.

Official Volvo service here in Balkan are extremely expensive too. Especially for something that shares many parts with Ford(my car is 1-gen xc60 5-cylindar diesel) And some maintenance is 4-5 times more expensive at official diler.

I bought one back in 2018 and I was convinced at the time the reason for the complexity in the trim spec and options was to make it near impossible to play dealers off against each other to discount floor stock… because no 2 cars are identical.

Just drove a 3 week old plugin hybrid xc60 that in my home country goes for around 85k euro. Stranded the second week on the highway as the car gave a propulsion error and could not drive any faster than 45 km/h. Googled it and was shocked how many people experienced this issue. My love for volvo died down. Love the looks and the drive, but reliability is key.

Truely a shame that the XC60 has so many small to medium gremlins plaguing it as it looks like a fun car to drive.
I was definitely surprised that Hullsy recommended the diesel over the petrol and hybrid models.
It'll be interesting to see how the dark horse of luxury cars Genesis does compared to the likes of the XC60 and fellow European marques when you finally get one to review.

Definitelly XC60. I am from Poland. I have searched for a brand new mid SUV AWD petrol. I have driven for test Audi Q5, BMW X3, Lexus NX, Mercedes GLC. Finally I decided to buy Volvo My2024 XC60 B5(p) AWD Plus Dark Polestar Engineered (yea mouthful name I know) . I drive calmly so sportive features of its opponents did not matter to me. There are only three issues. The first is to small trunk (should have 100 litres more). The latter is this problem with rear doors. They get terribly dirty edges from the inside despite the additional protective caps. The last one is impossibility to turn off auto start/stop system. You can switch to Polestar mode but it is not suitable to cruise over the city. It shifts gears on 3000 rpms not on 2000 so such agreesive drive is not for daily usage. I used to switch to manual mode every time I see that stop will be really short and I am between 10 and 20 km/h. Afer that I switch back to D. Anyway good car so far. BTW My Android Infotainment works fantastic, no problems so far. I like voice commads to control climate, radio, navi. All works in polish language which is not so often. Strange that there is no "Hey Volvo" but "Hey Google" - this should be replaced definitelly :)

I have a 2020 XC60 T5, good car so far. Only issue is the windshield wipers failed, apparently this was a recall. Living in rainy Vancouver its important for those to work. The only other issue is when the car is in reverse it lowers the audio volume. Every 1 out of ten times the audio never comes back and you have to fully shut down the vehicle. Open the door then restart. A bit annoying for a luxury SUV.

Was taking the Micky out of automotive journalists obsession with soft touch interior finish, which I understand, up until a point. But, get this, CarExpert actually has an instrument for measuring a surfaces hardness that he uses for his reviews.
Pretty much it's only cars with plush upmarket interiors that arrive at the dealership on the back of a tow truck. Those vehicles cursed with fingernail rubbing inducing "hard scratchy plastics" seem to always arrive on the service driveway, having been driven there my the owners.

MY18 D5 R-Design here. Simply amazing car, 98% of what is said in this video is spot on. The pilot assist / self drive is literally better than tesla, and I own both..
    _Good_
Sound system best in any car I've owned, sub is a bit lacking but highs and mids amazing.
Awesome seat so much adjustability, even better in the back for long trips.
Ability to tow, no issues here, long range interstate with the self drive effortless driving even in snow, heavy rain pitch black puts so many other cars to shame.
1100km to a tank, 880 around town why buy a hybrid?
Sound proof, easy to park, light steering, heads up display with a really great dash - GPS guidance as well., ACTUAL spare tyre! Adjustable height air suspension great for elderly and shorties even a bloody 4G modem in the car.
Pre 2019 models have no adblue :) and pre 2020 models have no china spec wiring gremlins!
    _The bad_
Intercooler hoses blow off - common
Air con is pretty weak compared to Aussie cars, glass roof doesn't help
Air con evaporator - common issue rediculous to fix, much like the sunroof.
    Few sensors that are delicate
Stupid volvo servicing - I take mine to 'volv of Adelaide'
Dash rattles after 120k kms certain bumps.
    Suspension doesn't handle potholes well.
You're mates will give you shit even redicle, but your wife will drive one and won't give it back. Welcome to the hat drivers club, you wish you were a bloody volvo driver!

The D5 engine, the 5 cyl, is reagarded by us as one of the best engines (incl. petrols) in the category < 2.5 l.
In our Volvo association (Switzerland), ca 1,200 Volvos, we have 99.7 diesels, and many of the them run for over 400,000 km, before they were sold to Germany or export.
The possible mileage of the B5 (4 cyl. Diesel w/ mini e-motor) has be seen in the next years.
REMEMBER; every engine can have problems, even a Toyota 1HZ.....
the Volvo with the world-wide certified mileage was an 1800 , with 3.5 M miles, not km....
In our association, many people have drive regularly the 240 (stations of course), and even the PV544.....with mileages of around 600,000 km

You think they're incapable of making reliable cars? They choose not to because it's cheaper to make cars with poor quality parts. As long as they remain reliable for the short warranty period they don't care. If they break down outside of warranty so much the better because they'll make more money off parts sales. It's a business decision.

They were very good in nineties and early nooties. Then they realised they could earn more and customers are not returning so often to replace the vehicle. There is so many illogical things in today's cars... Surely today's engineers are not stupid: most of it is built in obsolescence. Longlife oils, automatic gearboxes sealed for life, sensor on a sensor to let know about something to another sensor. Everything obviously made of plastic under beautiful cover. There's so much of it today, something goes wrong and it slowly becomes untreatable. Or. You have to replace half of the components. Which very quickly becomes beyond economical in 5-7yearvold vehicle. All in beautiful shape with perfect body before rust shows up. It's a brave new world out there

If you're thinking of buying a Volvo go watch John Cadogan and see what he feels about Volvo Customer relations and their lack of adherence to Australian Consumer Law. I wish I'd seen it before I thought go buying a Volvo.

Hmmmm.. I’ve got a 2019 D4 with 200,000km on it and apart from normal servicing (oil and filters, brake pads/discs) I haven’t had to do a single thing to it. Best car ive ever owned.
I also have a Ford Territory with the same km and it’s a pile of shit, the whole car is falling apart around the engine.

If water ever finds its way into the cabin through the sunroof, then don't even bother with removing the carpets, the seats and the dashboard for it to dry .. just dry your tears and consider it a right off.. you'll never get rid of the electrical gremlings that will ensue.

I'm looking to spend 50-60k on a medium to large SUV, from brand new to no more than 4-5 years old and this was what I was going to get but I've seen SO many horrible reviews and I am the unluckiest person on planet earth so now I don't know what to do.
    Suggestions, anyone?

Im convinced most car makers are less reliable than they were. With that in mind, just buy the car you enjoy driving. They'll all have issues from time to time but at least when they run as intended, you get what you're after.
I could buy a Toyota tomorrow but I find their interiors awful and the endless alert binging and bonging becomes infuriating.
