  • Is your carburetor leaking or pouring fuel out of your carburetor on the air filter side or does it flood into your engine oil making the oil smell like gasoline? No matter what side it’s leaking from, it’s the same repair. Watch now to see how to easily stop your snow blower or snow thrower carb from leaking fuel.
This applies to almost all 4 stroke 4 cycle engines, with the float bowl on the bottom, on snow blowers, riding lawn mowers, walk behind lawn mowers, water pumps, generators, general purpose engines, etc.
This video specifically deals with Honda style carbs including Chinese knock offs, Kohler, Powermore or anything that is NOT a Briggs and Stratton or Tecumseh.

Stored a Honda engine once in a lean too hot area . Went too use it and checked the oil first . Pulled the cap and oil with gas came flowing out . Drained the entire tank over time from heat expansion forcing gas thru the needle valve . Yamaha carburetors with removable brass seats for needle float are notorious for the seal under neath leaking by in the casting where they thread in . Corrosion .Bacardi rum and coke is better for me when working on engines in the shop 😂👍 Good instructions steve as usual 👍

Hello Steve... Love your channel. I have learned allot watching you. So I have this used Cub Snow Blower I bought 4 years ago... I started having problems with the Carb leaking gas from the Air Cleaner Side... (No Air Cleaner on the Snow Blower). SO I order a Carb from Cub. It was the last one in stock... Changed the Carb and within a few hours started doing the very same thing... So I had the part number and thought it might have been a Customer Return and damaged SEAT... So I ordered one on eBay for half the price and it came in the very same box as the Cub Carb. Same Problem..... So I start calling around picking the brains of the Repair Shops... 2 Carbs... That is unusual... Same Problem... So it has been parked for 4 years.... Pisses me off I cannot fix it... My next go with it was going to replace the Intake Manifold Gasket. Since the Carb puts the fuel onto the intake then it turn 90 degrees UP.... And into the Engine... My theory was it might have been Sucking AIR letting fuel build up and run out.... Never got to it... So watching your video.... With a dirty SEAT.... I remembered something.... BLACK SPECKS... In the GAS..... And WHERE did the black specks come from? I used a TURKEY BASTER to suck out the OLD GAS.... Some got into the BLACK rubber thing and little specks of BLACK Rubber came out into the TANK.... Watching your video It became clear that my action caused this whole problem... I contaminated the TANK.... And I never flushed the tank... And I don't think this motor has a GAS FILTER..... Time to revisit this Snow Blower... With some Ethanol Free GAS.... I will follow up with what I find... It has to be "All About the SEAT..".... In my Navy Days when I was fixing Electronics we had a saying if we went to fix a Ships Radar... Go where Sailors have BEEN... What did you do before it stopped working.... O' we adjusted the Power Supply.... So you start at the power supply... Go where Sailors have been.... :) Thanks :)

Hi Steve, love your channel! ♥️ You convey great information in a wonderful way that anybody can understand without talking down to us. Thank you! I have a question, I have a few pieces of lawn gear that’s been sitting up for years, ran the gas out of the chipper and now because of you I want to bring it back to life. I’m replacing the fuel line as it’s petrified. What’s the easiest way to clean out the impurity’s from the gas tank without taking it off the chipper. What can I flush it with and collect in a can through the new gas line that I haven’t cut to length yet. Fuel or something else? I do want to trash the carburetor by not flushing the fuel tank. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, always good to turn fuel tap off when transporting, and drain f.tank when storing the machine.....
If it's not shaky shaky, spilly spilly...fuel in oil.....it can be pressure build up in the tank forcing the needle and float down...lots of fuel in oil...lol👍🇦🇺

If you have a carb with a brass seat, I have had good success by polishing the seat using a pointed wood or bamboo barbecue skewer and lapping compound or Bar Keepers Friend. Better still, buy G-Tip Gun Cleaning Swabs by Bear Metal. They are made of compacted felt and shaped to fit the brass seat. I spin the "tool" using my dremel tool at low speed. Good vid by Don Spatola titled, "Walbro LMK carburetor leaking, cleaning needle seat" demonstrates his technique. It works.

I was stuck in the Honda carb vortex when I had an 18 horse walk-behind Honda mower that was manufactured in the 90's that if I forgot to shut the gas off it would pour all the gas into the crankcase. We could not get that carb to stop leaking and I looked for a couple months for a carb but could not find an exact match or even one that would work. I ended up changing the engine out for a 22 horse Briggs that works perfectly but what a shame to have to junk out a Honda engine because of the carb.

I’m thinking that is the problem of mine because when I put fuel in it and start it up the oil comes out quick from the carburetor. I thought it might of been the needle and seat but I’m not sure. The only reason that I might have some input on this is from watching your videos. I have to try to fix this the cheapest way possible or my wife will kick my a** lol. I am not mechanically inclined at all but I am willing to try to give this a shot. I was thinking to maybe take pictures of every step I do and maybe it will help me. The snowblower is maybe a year old if that and it’s having this kind of problem.

I think a Kona "Big Wave" or a Civil Life brown ale is in order for a carb job.

If you use valve grinding compound make sure you clean that carb really well, or you will destroy your engine, that grit will prematurely wear the piston rings out.

Do you have a video on how to adjust one of these? I have one that keeps surging and behaving very odd.

I had the same problem, but in my case the float sticks to the bottom of the bowl.

Would you recommend changing the oil even if you don’t smell gas in the oil?

QUESTION: Is there a trick to getting hoses off of carbs? The best way I've found is to get a flat-head screw driver behind the rubber and push away from the carb. This causes the hose to bunch up and loosen a bit. But I'm dealing with a hose right now that I can't really get behind (fits very flush to carburetor.) I don't want to damage the hose. Is there a trick to getting these hoses off the carbs? *_Thanks in advance for any and all advice!_*
