My 06 was doing this. I replaced the brass bushing and the microswitch and still wasn't able to start in gear with clutch pulled in. Then I did this trick that Norm suggested and it works like a charm! Thank you!

I own a 2007 GL1800 Airbag Model Wing and can confirm that this trick worked for me. I am, however, 100% convinced that it is the thick grip puppy covers that typically cause this and not any Honda 'tight tolerance' or wear isssues with the clutch lever. The bike in the video has the same thick foam grip covers I have on my bike and the clutch handle ends up not being able to fully compress enough to activate the switch. Add the JB weld to the lever like the video shows or take the foam grip covers off and PROBLEM SOLVED.

If the clutch handle bushing is worn it will cause problems.

Thanks so much for this video! Mine would not start at all. I tried to roll down my driveway on an incline, to bump start. No avail. Here, I'm checking voltage, gonna pull the battery. Then I recalled having issues with the clutch, starting in gear a couple days ago. Then I wiggled the clutch lever. Then it starts!

    It’s a $12 part , takes less than a minute to replace
