love this video took me back 50 years when my dad used to take me to winthorpe its were i learnt the stick float and its a great way to fish lovely net of fish for a couple of hours thanks for the memories
Can't beat it can you? If I'd have fished a full 5hour session double figures would have easily been on the cards and you just can't argue with 10lb of silvers.
The golden rule back in the late 70's was to feed as far upstream as you could to stop your bait from reaching the next peg downstream
Depends on the flow and depth. I'd never ever feed upstream on the trent, you are just drawing the fish above you.
Always feed n cast downstream. Feeding up stream is a nightmare. You send the fish upstream in to the next peg, you want them just, just down stream, feed, rod in right hand, hook bait in left, swing it out in an arc, shots always bottom two thirds from hook, if I put any shot under the float, the float just doesn't look right to me, spread the shot out, feather the rig as it lands, smooth action, not a jerk, everything in line, your arm, the rod the line, the rig, all in a line pointing down stream, ready to strike as you run down. The rig is fishing instantly. Watch the shots land to the last, read the peg. Not in front not upstream always down your peg. Fishing a still slow river straight out in front? No problems, fish the waggler 👍
How on earth do you get at the fish if you feed as far as you can upstream??? You are just sending your fish into the peg above. It's bad enough if you feed directly in front of you, but far upstream?
When you cast in, which way does your float and tackle go? When is your hook, line, float, rod and arm all in a line running into the flow? You want to be running onto your fish, running the bait in amongst your loose feed into their mouths.
And be in a position to strike.
Always feed and cast downstream 👍

Top man! You can't beat it. It's only day ticket if you go with a Newark Member, but there are plenty of other waters where you can pay on the bank. Try Staythorpe Power Station thats day ticket on the bank.
Use a bait apron and learn to feed with your left hand.
Impossible I'm afraid. I fish cack handed and there's nothing can be done.
